This is a podcast. You've heard of one before right? It's like radio, but like, whenever you want it. This is one called 'The 33% Majority', and it's the 40th episode we've ever made (minus 10). In this week's episode, your 3 favourite illiterate gentlemen will each spend their 15 minutes of fame discussing the things we think we'd be really bloody awful at, some of the strangest Ted Talks that have graced that hallowed stage, and a lazy Ask Reddit (Alex came up with the idea to do it originally, so we'll give him a pass) respectlively. Also, y'know the things that make some 'puter algorithm think we're popular and bussing? If you could do those, that'd be just swell. Ok thanks love you bye.

On the show this week @erfon / @lewiswallace / @lkahney 16-inch MacBook Pro - 8 things Apple BETTER get right! Apple axes 190 employees from self-driving car division Apple’s self-driving car project may be nearing the end of the road. Project Titan was reportedly greenlit toward the end of 2014. Apple hired hundreds of engineers setting out to design and build its own self-driving car. Numerous roadblocks hit the struggling project and the company reportedly changed the focus toward just making the underlying autonomous driving technology instead of a complete car. After rumors surfaced last month that the company slashed its workforce for Project Titan, Apple confirmed today that 190 employees in Santa Clara and Sunnyvale have been released from the self-driving car project. Details of Apple’s self-driving car project were just posted by the company last week. Apple’s cars needed a driver to take over about once every 1.1 miles. By comparison, Google’s Waymo division only had a disengagement every 11,017 miles. It’s unclear what the future holds for Apple’s automotive ambitions from here. Tim Cook has said self-driving cars is the mother of all AI problems. With iPhone sales dropping though, the company appears to be tightening its focus by jettisoning projects that aren’t as promising. Apple developing its own sleep-tracking tech for Apple Watch Apple Watch could soon add sleep-tracking tech that makes it an even more capable health monitor. Apple has been testing the new sleep-tracking technology at secret sites around Cupertino, a new report claims. And if it lives up to its promise, it could ship as part of the Apple Watch by 2020. The Health app for iOS has included sleep-tracking since 2014. However, it simply pulls in information from the Clock app’s alarm function, although third-party devices and apps can bolster the data. Apple acquired Finnish company Beddit, which makes a sleep-tracking sensor strip, in May 2017. At the end of last year, a new Beddit sleep monitor launched. This was the first version since Apple acquired the company. Apple ‘very aware’ of concerns over iPhone’s high prices “It’s something we’re very aware of,” Williams said during a question and answer session at Elon University on February 22. “We do not want to be an elitist company … We want to be an egalitarian company, and we’ve got a lot of work going on in developing markets.” Apple COO Jeff Williams says the company is “very aware” of concerns over the rising cost of the iPhone and Mac computers. Apple CEO Tim Cook has already admitted that the company will “rethink” its prices, particularly those for the iPhone Williams goes on to say: “The stories that come out about the cost of our products [have been] the bane of my existence from the beginning of time, including our early days,” he said. “Analysts don’t really understand the cost of what we do and how much care we put into making our products.” Williams described how Apple has built its very own physiology lab, with 40 licensed nurses, and enlisted over 10,000 study participants to develop some of Apple Watch’s most important features. Today in Apple history: Massive layoffs clear out Apple’s ‘bozo explosion’ February 25, 1981: Apple CEO Michael Scott oversees a mass firing of employees, then holds a massive party. At the time, Apple was growing incredibly quickly. With almost 2,000 people on the payroll, Scott thought the company had simply grown too big, too fast. The expansion led to what he called a “bozo explosion,” with Apple employing people he did not consider A-players. The event went on to be know as Black Wedneday. Former Apple programmer Andy Hertzfeld remembers it as bizarre event: “Black Wednesday was one of a number of shakeups which took place at Apple when things were going great. Sales were doubling almost every month, so that was a little unusual I would say.” “I used to say that when being CEO at Apple wasn’t fun anymore, I’d quit,” he tells a crowd of Apple staffers. “But now I’ve changed my mind — when being CEO isn’t fun anymore, I’ll just fire people until it is fun again.” For many people at Apple, the day is the worst in company history — and an early sign that the fun startup culture of the early days are gone forever.
This week on Get Connected, we cover Huawei's recent woes and misgivings in the news with IT World Canada's Brian Jackson, Meagan Simpson talks Avon as the company branches out into eCommerce and social media, Kali Readwin offers some perspective on Facebook's favouritism towards app development partners and punishment towards their rivals, and tech expert Tom Lee helps us analyze Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon chip that'll significantly speed up Android phones going forward. We also discuss Italian 3D printed vegan steaks, Apple and Finnish company Beddit's new sleep tracker, and airport-bound Amazon Go convenience stores!
We warned Mike not to overstuff his quarters with relatives, but sure enough he caught the space plague and so he's back in sickbay for this week's command briefing, but Housekeeping Admiral William Gallagher stops by to fill in and go over the tech news of the week, from the amazing life-saving work of the Apple Watch ECG to the two photo-site awards given to the iPhone XS Max (best dual) and iPhone XR (best single) cameras. Apple hands out its best of 2018 and springs a revised Beddit on us, along with a bunch of handy accessories in time for the holidays. E-SIM support is growing in the US and Canada, iOS adoption humiliates Google, Waymo launches a self-driving taxi service (sort of), HomePod coming to China and Hong Kong, and Apple gives a gift to US veterans and active military. But fret not -- there's still plenty of dumb moves to call out. Among the offenders this week are Microsoft, Mastercard, IDC (and Gartner), Bloomberg, the WSJ, Qualcomm, and Rosenblatt Securities (again). All the news that's fit to beam directly into your cerebral cortex, cadets, but this time with a British accent (so classy!).

I’m so excited for you to listen and get to know green juice junkie (and so much more), Drew Canole. We could have talked for hours! He’s so connected and open with his spirituality that I felt like I was talking to a long-lost friend. Seriously, we’re both from Michigan (now in California), we’re experienced snowmobile drivers and we both take guitar lessons! And our journeys are quite similar as well. Drew had always been into fitness, but after consistently working out two or more hours a day he wasn’t getting the results/body he wanted. He soon realized it was likely the food he was putting into his body (Michigan diet = burgers, pizza and Hamburger Helper). So it was six and half years ago, after a friend suggested that Drew try a green juice, that he decided to eliminate the junk/processed foods and also drink “copious amounts” of green juice for seven days. Loving the effects, he decided to continue on for 90 days while incorporating intermittent fasting and also documenting his journey on YouTube. He lost 40 pounds! And while his physical appearance was amazing, what’s more is that he FELT so much better. He had more energy, he felt more creative, productive and experienced more clarity in his life. Drew felt in tune with his most authentic self. “When you get in that flow state, that energy, it radically shifts your viewpoint of every human being.” After all, when you’re in this state, there’s no time for lack or scarcity – you just see abundance. Realizing that for some, it’s difficult to get to this state, Drew explains that adjusting your nutrition is the perfect hack to reaching this when your mindset hasn’t quite reached this point. He offers the following tips to get started on your own transformation: Get quality sleep. Dial in on what kind of sleep you need and what you’re actually getting – and tweak. Drew uses the app Beddit to track his sleep. Drink A LOT of water. Drink green juice. This is optional, but Drew feels it’s so helpful when trying to retrain your tastebuds. Set a goal. Figure out your “Why-Dentity” or your “why that makes you cry.” Along with this, it’s recognizing what you want to hear from the people you love and what YOU want to see in the mirror. This often creates more of a reality for you. It’s a combination of feeling what you want to and SEEING it as well. Even further, boost your success rate by finding someone to team up with as well. Developing certain daily rituals or daily practices are also an important key to your success. It’s what grounds us and keeps us in that state of flow. Personally, I know when my sleep isn’t quality or I’m not moving my body, my creativity and motivation comes to a halt. The same goes for Drew. Below are some of his important morning visualization/meditation practices. Wake up and get grateful. Go through a list in your head or write out what you’re grateful for. Visualization/Meditation for 10 minutes or more if time allows. He uses a Japanese-style meditation that focuses on breathing. Email/text three people you care about. Show appreciation to people you care for, but haven’t reached out to in a while – just to show your love. Coffee (usually some beneficial supplements) and then off to the gym (about 1.25 hours). Sometimes swimming. Spiritual work/reading. Shower 9 a.m. daily work touch-base meeting Now, I get it… So often a person doesn’t feel like they have the time to build in such rituals. But we both Drew and I believe you can. If you constantly think you don’t have time, guess what? That’s how it’s always going to feel. Drew himself believes that time is just an illusion. He likes to view all time as “the unfoldment of good.” He likes to frame it as constantly being in a state of bliss – tracking how much good can be done in ONE moment. When you’re in this place, time is no longer a question. Instead it seems to expand exponentially. “The universe is like water and wants to get out of your way when you know where you’re going.” When time (and life) is approached this way, people and opportunities are magnetically drawn to you. So take time to focus on the times you feel stress or like you have no time. Take a time out. Breathe in and as Drew suggests, “breathe out with a smile.” Notice how much lighter you feel after. “Time slows down when you’re living in the moment.” With this approach, it’s no wonder that Drew has attracted 80+ team members to join his team. Ideal boss alert! He encourages people to explore their spiritual gifts daily whether it’s reading a new book a week as a company or attending his team’s daily 9 a.m. meeting. He also ensures that he’s connected and creating a healthy work environment. When it comes to staying personally grounded and connected, Drew finds writing therapeutic as well as frequent spa treatments (acupuncture, cryo-saunas etc.). But it’s also been about is overall vision for his life. When he began to see that what he does every single day makes a difference, he was able to bring that vision to life. Drew wants everyone to know that a person’s vision for what they want to create in their lives is so huge and it CAN be created. “It’s the consistent action, every single day, that’s going to be the guiding light in your life.” How’s that for motivation? What actions could you take to today to make your vision a reality? As always I would love to hear! -- Drew Canole is a rockstar in the world of fitness, nutrition and mindset, with a huge heart for others and doing his part to transform the world, one person at a time. Drew is the founder and CEO of FitLife.TV, an online health and wellness media channel where he shares educational, inspirational and entertaining videos and articles about health, fitness and healing and longevity. He is also the founder of Organifi, an organic line of superfood products that was created to make healthy living easy and accessible on the go. With a community of over 3 million people, he continues to inspire and empower others to live their best life in their healthiest body through delivering daily content online. This week's guest is Lasse Leppäkorpi, the CEO and founder of Beddit, the world's leading sleep app. Beddit's sleep analysis is based on ballistocardiography (BCG), which is the measurement of the mechanical cardiac activity from the platform supporting the body. Each time the heart beats, the acceleration of blood generates a mechanical impulse that can be measured and analyzed with a sensitive-enough force sensor, such as the Beddit Sleep Tracker. Throughout the night, Beddit picks up each individual heart beat and respiration cycle while separating other body movements from them. Their advanced analysis and machine-learning algorithms adapt differently to each body type and provide detailed sleep information each morning. You will achieve more with a great night's sleep and you can easily make your bed a smart bed with Beddit. Leppäkorpi discusses the science of sleep and what athletes need to know for the most undervalued aspect of optimal performance.
