On the Scars and Guitars new music show for June 2024, we kick things off with Bruce Dickinson's "Resurrection Men" from The Mandrake Project and then move into Apocalyptica's rendition of "The Call Of Ktulu," featuring Cliff Burton from their album Apocalyptica Plays Metallica, Vol. 2. Ghost brings us "The Future is a Foreign Land" from the soundtrack RITE HERE RITE NOW: ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK, followed by Simone Simons with "In Love We Rust" from Vermillion. Michael Schenker's "Mother Mary," featuring Slash and Erik Grönwall, from My Years With UFO, provides a hard-hitting edge, while Cavalera's "From the Past Comes the Storms" from Schizophrenia takes us deeper into the realm of classic extreme metal. Skid Row's live performance of "Slave To The Grind" from Live In London and White Stones' "La Ira" from Memoria Viva, led by Opeth's Martín Méndez, continue to elevate the energy. Zeal & Ardor's "Fend You Off" from GREIF and Korpiklaani's "Harhainen Höyhen" from RANKARUMPU showcase unique and powerful sounds. Athena XIX reunites with front-man Fabio Lione for "The Conscience Of Everything," The Eternal delivers "Deathlike Silence" from Skinwalker, featuring Amorphis members Jan Rechberger and Niclas Etelävuori. We then feature tracks like 96 Bitter Beings' "Tripled Manic State" from "Return to Hellview" and Arka'n Asrafokor's "Walk With Us" from Dzikkuh, blending intense metal with African traditions. Higher Power collaborates with Never Ending Game on "Stillpoint," while Shun presents "Drawing Names" from Dismantle. Qaalm's "First Light of the Last Dawn" from their EP of the same name and another live track from Bruce Dickinson, "Afterglow Of Ragnarok," continue to diversify the playlist. Curse Upon A Prayer's "Black Venus Erotica" from The Worship: Orthoprax Satanism and Eternal Drak's "Haunting Place" from Imprisoned Souls add a darker tone. Nighthämmer's "Land Of Fear," Paradise In Flames' "I Feel The Plague" from Blindness, and Maudissez's "Fracture Par Fracture" maintain the intense atmosphere. Hässlig's "Apex Predator", Ancient Entities' "Pierced by Obsidian" from Echoes of Annihilation, and Bleed From Within's single "Hands of Sin" keep the momentum going. We also have Cabal's "Sort Sommer" featuring FABRÄK, Crypt Crawler's "The Immortal Realm," and Fleshgod Apocalypse's "Bloodclock" from Opera. Obscene's "The Reaper's Blessing" from Agony & Wounds, Octoploid's "Human Amoral" from Beyond The Aeons, and The Black Dahlia Murder's "Aftermath" from Servitude provide more brutal sounds. Morgue Meat's "Lesser Key Of Solomon" from Apocalyptic Visions, Traumatomy's "Womb Of The Desecrated" from Triumph of Enslavement, and Clan dos Mortos Cicatriz's "Flores cortadas, machado na pele" from Débil continue to push the envelope. Nails' "Imposing Will" from Every Bridge Burning, "Cavalera's "Nightmares Of Delirium" from "Schizophrenia," and from Saudi Arabia, Dune bring "Insidious" adding international flair. We wrap up with Exodus' live track "Piranha" from British Disaster: The Battle of '89, Blind Guardian's revisited "The Quest For Tanelorn," Orden Ogan's "The Order Of Fear," Chris Slade's "Back With A Vengeance" from Timescape, and another live performance by Bruce Dickinson with "Abduction" from The Mandrake Project. Enjoy the show!

I sat down with former CKY singer Deron Miller to talk about his new band 96 Bitter Beings and their latest album, Synergy Restored. We briefly talked about the album but we wound up spending a lot more time talking about the relationships he's building with his fans and the state of rock music. It was an interesting conversation that I am so glad to finally be able to share with you now that the album is close to release (November 4th!). 96 Bitter Beings Contact;96bitterbeings.com96bitterbeingsofficial@gmail.comhttps://twitter.com/96bbofficialhttps://www.instagram.com/96bitterbeingsofficial/https://www.facebook.com/96BBMusic/Heavy Metal Philosophy Contact;https://www.spreaker.com/show/heavy-metal-philosophyHeavyMetalPhilosophy@gmail.comhttps://mobile.twitter.com/heaviestdoyenhttps://www.facebook.com/HeaviestDoyenhttps://www.instagram.com/heavy_metal_philosophy/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCh2KCIU5z_F6DRH05xHsJMAMetal Digest articles link;https://metal-digest.com/author/jon-barbas/#metal #rock #alternative #cky #96BitterBeings #podcast #interview
Deron Miller is the mastermind behind so many iconic riffs and songs - and he's back with a brand new album by 96 Bitter Beings. I spoke with Deron about his early musical influences, his massive record collection, his love of unique guitars and more
Deron Miller returns as the guest on the podcast. We talk about the literal meaning behind the bands upcoming album, Synergy Restored, and the journey it took to get this album out. I reflect on that with Deron from the last time he was on the show a few years ago when this was still an "in the works" album. We talk about being true to yourself, the music industry now versus 20 plus years ago when CKY were at the height of their popularity, why Metallica didn't need the exposure from Stranger Things. Why Deron believes that more of our youth needs to get into rock/metal, and what he hopes for the genre moving forward. We also talk about what it's been like for Deron to see the youth of today through his teenage kids. We then get into the weeds of the music business, and I blow Deron's mind with how much Naughty By Nature wanted to play a show and so much more in this chat. BLOODY EPISODE 96 Secret Society of Second-Born Royals - Disney Plus is at it again! This time with a brand new original film aimed at pre-teens…. and maybe me? The story follows Sam, a regular teenager angry at society and ‘the man’ as she is constantly getting into trouble with the law, but there’s one catch. She’s gosh dang royalty! (To what kingdom I have no idea so please don’t ask). After getting herself into too much trouble in the shadow of her older sister (who is of course going to be queen), she gets sent away to a new school but not just any school, it’s the ‘Secret Society for Second Born Royals’! Her and her new classmates discover that while they may not be in line for the throne, they all have super powers!! Ka-Blam! And for generations the ‘second in lines’ have protected their kingdoms! Bombing onto Disney Plus like a former Glee cast members career, 17th of July! ‘Perry Mason’ - This 8 episode television series takes place in Los Angeles, circa 1932. A down on his luck detective, or more accurately as he says ‘Just a fancy word for Busy Body’, accidentally stumbles upon the case of a lifetime. There isn’t too much revealed about the case but we can see in the trailer at least 3 men, a couple of women and at least one child (“WONT SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!”) are murdered in what we can assume is a case of a serial killer. Along the way we find out that he suspects the possibility of the police, the city and even the church are involved in a huge scheme or cover up! With a stacked cast of Emmy winners including Matthew Rhys, Tatiana Maslany and the legend himself John Lithgow, this is one I am very excited for!! Oh wait, it’s coming to HBO… NEVER FUCKING MIND! 21st of June. ‘Summerland’ - Last week we had a couple of absolutely edge of your seat war Epics, this week, we have Summerland! During World War II, a female novelist (I know right, a LADY writing books? Preposterous!) finds herself the new guardian to a young boy whose dad is off fighting in the war (we assume his mum is dead?). She initially says fuck this kid and doesn’t want a part of him cause she’s busy with her stories. But he won’t stop…. being a kid and low and behold, he grows on her. She opens up to him about life, love and lesbian-ism and ohhhh boy this story took a turn! For a minute there I thought this might be a creepy love story but nope she’s a scissor sister and now we have a story! Then his dad dies. Lots to unwrap here! Crashing into theaters like a war plane into the heart of a child, July 24th. ‘Dating Amber’ - Oh a wee spot of British humour is whot you’d like to go wif your croompets and tea?! Well here you go you golly wockle! Now that I have nailed my British accent and not stopped once to question Mitchell’s brilliant writing because I 100 percent understood the humour he was going for there, we can Discuss ‘Dating Amber’! Here we find two teenagers, Eddie and Amber, who are different then the other kids in their school… pause for dramatic effect… because they’re gay! And what do you do when you realize the truth and aren’t comfortable enough with yourself to admit it? You date another gay person and pretend to be straight! Sound confusing? It’s not really, it almost has a shade of ‘Easy A’ to it. But the story follows them as they discover themselves and their friendship and learn to accept who they are. Guzzling onto Amazon like a teen drinking cow piss, now! ‘Dantza’ - This. Now THIS is what Trailer Park was made for! In the trailer for ‘Dantza’ (that’s Dant-Za, not Dancer), we see After a hard working day in the field, the heavens open and a ferocious storm breaks out. When the rain eases off, life sprouts from the previously barren soil. A piece of fruit grows, ripens on the tree after surviving the scourge of the blight and goes on to turn into a juicy green apple from which cider is nicely produced. Then it is time to celebrate the bumper harvest and drink a toast to love! Now, let me be honest here…. I googled what this movie was about because WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT TRAILER?!? No seriously, everybody listening right now, pause the podcast, got to YouTube and type in ‘Dantza Trailer’ D A N T Z A and watch the 90 second trailer. I’ll wait. You watched it? Good now everybody all at once: What in the actual fuck is this?! Is it a stage production, a musical, an art film, a film about mutes who live on dirt and have never seen an Apple before so when one appears they silently ejaculate and dance everywhere?! Oh and there’s a didgeridoo playing over the trailer the whole time, why?! Also, Fire Swords. Just Cause! Coming to somewhere other than Spain, this year. ‘You Should Have Left’ - Here it comes barreling through the Park, it’s Mitchell’s Double Wide for the week!! Do you smell that? Oh you know it’s going to be a good trailer when the most delicious smelling actor is appearing in a new thriller! Kevin Bacon and the chick from Mama Mia Star in the next Universal/Blumhouse production ‘You should have left’. The story follows Seyfried, Bacon (lol, Fried Bacon), and their daughter as they travel to a secluded house out in the sticks for a getaway so Bacon can write his next script. But oh no, the seemingly perfect house isn’t what it seems and is hiding some dark, paranormal secrets that threaten the life of all involved!! Yes I know, a screenwriter going to a house that is haunted isn’t an all that original story (Vibes of The secret window, the shining and about 1000 other horror films) but you don’t understand; Kevin Bacon, Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Creepy wall puppets. This could be great!! And the best part? Scribbling to on demand and home rental like a ghost in a note book, June 19th!! @2c3pod Aussie Pop Culture Podcast ~ 2 Episodes every Wednesday and Friday + YOUTUBE bonus content. Episode 39 of The AFD Show is Scotto’s last unfortunately, but he’s going out interviewing one of his favorite all-time songwriters. Scotto and Brando are joined by Deron Miller, formerly of CKY and now with 96 Bitter Beings. Guns N’ Roses fans should remember CKY as GNR’s tour opener on the ill-fated 2002 Chinese Democracy tour before it was cancelled. Deron said this is the first time in 15 years anyone has asked him about that tour. How did the band get chosen by Axl? What was his experience? And most importantly, what happened?! We discuss GnR, CKY, and even KISS in this special interview. We do say goodbye to Scotto, but the AFD Show will continue with bigger and better episodes! Please follow/subscribe on iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, and Spreaker.
