Interview by Kris PetersUS metal outfit Fire From The Gods consolidated their growing stature in October 2022 with the release of their third album, Soul Revolution.Featuring the singles SOS, Thousand Lifetimes, World So Cold and Soul Revolution, the album quickly became a fan favourite and propelled the band into a fresh legion of fans and supporters.Fans quickly demanded more, so Fire From The Gods have provided with Soul Revolution Deluxe - The Collabs, an extension of the original album featuring the tracks found on the first recording, plus four of the songs re-recorded with collaborations from Yung Mosh, Nate Vickers, Corey Glover and Jayden Panesso as well as a cover of Guerilla Radio by Rage Against The Machine. It portrays the four reworked songs in a different light with the use of guest artists and showcases a different musical side of the band.Vocalist AJ Channer joined HEAVY to dive deeper into the new album which will be released on June 14, starting with if he still feels the same excitement releasing a deluxe version of an album."You know what, I'm happy about this one because as I have told everyone it's about the family with this one," he explained. "It's about the homies and some really solid, close individuals for Fire From The Gods, so I'm really excited about this one. I am excited about the release. Typically, Fire From The Gods will release a record, then we'll do some reimagined version of it. We've done it since our first record, Narrative, and people are really excited about hearing the different version of the solo or a different take or reimagining of the record. But with this one, it's collabs. It's people that specifically are close to our hearts as brothers, as bands, as musicians. We hand-picked those that we wanted for this. I didn't wanna blow it up and get a massive name on it and spend a tonne of money going after Jonathan Davis or some big name to try and boost sales or anything. We really wanted to do it as some homies that we wanted to show love and some people that we know really respect our band and respect what we've got going on."In the full interview, AJ talks more about how fans embraced the original album version, how he measures success in the modern age, runs through each of the collaborations individually and offers more about the songs and why each person was asked to collaborate on it, the Rage Against The Machine cover and why it was chosen, the selection process for which songs appeared on the Deluxe version, touring plans and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Could there be more to creativity's origins than we realize? What if mythic sources and irrational realms truly underpin our most visionary breakthroughs? Perhaps divine gifts flow through mortal vessels, their full power beyond any individual's claim. Inspiration might arise synergistically between human endeavor and ineffable forces beyond our ken. To create enduring works, we may need to nurture creative soulfulness as much as technical skill. For all our modern grasp of knowledge, its deepest wells may still lie veiled in shadow, their waters a grace, not a possession.New! Fire From The Gods have never been backward in coming forward, with their music not only providing a source of entertainment, but also a running commentary on the world we live in.That has been stepped up a notch with the band's new album Soul Revolution, which is due out on October 28.The title pretty much says it all, with Fire From The Gods inciting a revolution through the power of music and one which sees the band openly exploring vocalist AJ Channer mantra of All Power To All People.HEAVY caught up with AJ earlier today for an insightful chat into the album and the general world views of a man who pours his soul into his music and his music into his beliefs."It was a journey, bro," he began, "because it started right in the back end of COVID when things were starting to change a little bit for us in Texas. Things were starting to open up, but we also had gone through this really catastrophic winter down here. We had this week and a half of crazy, crazy weather that nearly... it changed a lot. Texas is a super, robust, oil, everything's bigger in Texas type place, and then a little bit of freezing temperatures and some snow and the whole state was reduced to almost third world conditions so shit was crazy. And then coming out of that my wife, my kids and I - and we'd just had a new born - so we had a two, three week old baby and we were having to live in a hotel for a week. It was crazy! And then, coming off that, I sent them to Tennessee because things hadn't changed here. Power wasn't back and we didn't know how that was going to be so they left and went to Tennessee and I went to Houston to start demoing. Not only was I not living in my house for a week and things had gone crazy weather wise in Texas, it was also 'by the way, let's start demoing'. It was wild. It started with that and then the world started opening up and we were fighting to get some tours back. We were lucky enough to get on the road with Korn, who we adore, so it was all in the backdrop of that but we were still doing zoom sessions for writing. I love that you and I can be on zoom right now rapping about music, but I don't wanna write fucken music over the computer (laughs). I wanna be in the booth in the room. SThere was a lot of that. It was crazy, bro. It was crazy."In the full interview, AJ talks more about the songs on Soul Revolution, what Fire From The Gods were going for musically, the themes n the album and how they relate to modern society, how he is settling in to the band after three albums, his early days as vocalist and how the band encouraged him, touring plans and more.
AJ Channer of Fire From The Gods joins PSYCHIC WARFARE for an extremely important and high energy talk about how people can work through entrenched beliefs to help create a kinder, more unified world, when anger is justified and righteous, the realization that we are not separate from anyone else, and what the concept of the soul means to him. AJ brings such a good heart, soul, and mind to PSYCHIC WARFARE and delivers one of the most important and impactful conversations yet on the podcast!

Memphis May Fire are a band that truly wears their heart on their sleeve and puts their money where their mouth is.So much so that every single released from their recent album Remade In Misery was accompanied by a piece of charity driven merchandise that helped raise money for causes close to the bands heart.Remade In Misery continues the trend of heavy rock inspired music, confronting issues such as violence, anxiety and polarization with an empathy that makes each song relatable to the average music loving individual.A band that self-professes “makes music for the broken', Memphis May Fire prove that you can still rock the fuck out while remaining true to your beliefs.Frontman Matty Mullins sat down with HEAVY to run through the release, starting with if he agrees with the statement in the press release that Remade In Misery is Memphis May Fire's heaviest album to date."Definitely,” he nodded. “I guess everybody has their own definition of heavy, but for all of us in the band we all agree it's definitely our heaviest record yet."One of the ways the band did that was by going back to their core sound, a process which Mullins simplified."For us, as a band we started out as something and then we changed a lot of the years with experimenting and trying new things,” he measured. “Going back to our core with what gave us our start - which was heavy Memphis May Fire - is something that we've been wanting to do for a long time and didn't know if it was the right path for us to take but going through the pandemic and having all this time to rediscover us as a band and us as people gave us the courage to say we're gonna make the record that we wanna make. We're gonna make it ourselves, Kellen's gonna produce it, we're gonna write it in our houses and our studios and we're just gonna do this. And we did. That's how we got back to the core."In the full interview, Matty talks about the early response to the album, having Cody Quistad from Wage War help with the writing process, the guest spot from AJ Channer from Fire From The Gods, the lyrical content and conveying those thoughts through music, the charity driven merch and where to get it, having someone in the band produce and mix the album, their motto of connecting with the broken hearted and how they go about achieving that and more.

⚡️Our first IN PERSON interview since March 2020! ⚡️We had the pleasure of interviewing Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire over Zoom video!Memphis May Fire makes anthems for the broken. The four-piece rock band channel a generation's worth of angst, frustration, and pain, with a focused blend of gigantic melodic hooks and crushing aggression. Even after topping Billboard's Hard Music Albums chart and breaking into radio's Active Rock Top 20, Memphis May Fire refuses to sacrifice who they are or the people who made them. In fact, Remade in Misery, their seventh full-length album, is the heaviest Memphis May Fire record yet.It is the first Memphis May Fire album to be both produced and mixed by Kellen McGregor, the band's guitarist who co-founded the group roughly 15 years ago. The longtime rhythm section of bassist Cory Elder and drummer Jake Garland inject the songs with infinite depth and focus. Cameron Mizell, who coproduced 2014 fan-favorite Unconditional with McGregor, produced Matty's vocals.Mullins enlisted his friend Cody Quistad, guitarist and clean vocalist for the band Wage War, during part of the writing process. Fire From The Gods singer AJ Channer guests on “Only Human.” At the heart of any collaboration is the Memphis May Fire mission: to connect with the brokenhearted. The guys are family to the million-plus fans who follow Memphis May Fire on social media, revered by the people who discovered their early albums in 2009 and 2011; those who made Challenger (2012) the biggest selling debut in the history of Rise Records at the time; and everyone who championed their music since. Unconditional debuted at Number One on Billboard's Rock, Independent, and Hard Music charts. In 2016, This Light I Hold made inroads into radio while rooted in heaviness. Boasting the singles “The Old Me,” “Live Another Day,” and “Heavy is the Weight,” Broken was a distillation of what the band does creatively, with the group's signature passion and fearless genre-bending.Remade in Misery is the sum total of all that's come before with a forceful charge into the future. We want to hear from you! Santino & Dayne catch up and prepare their bodies and minds before venturing off to the world famous Whisky A Go Go to watch the homies in Fire From The Gods. True story.
Hello to you listening in Dublin, Ireland!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I'm the singular RN, JD, Storyteller. My work thrives on imagination. But imagination, like storytelling, has been conscripted and co-opted by business. It's time to reclaim imagination as the storytelling fire bestowed on us mortals by the heavenly gods. This is altogether too important to short-change.In her book, Words Are My Matter, Ursula K. Le Guin writes, “In America the imagination is generally looked on as something that might be useful when the TV is out of order. Poetry and plays have no relation to practical politics. Novels are for students, housewives, and other people who don't work. Fantasy is for children and primitive peoples. Literacy is so you can read the operating instructions. I think the imagination is the single most useful tool mankind possesses. It beats the opposable thumb. I can imagine living without my thumbs, but not without my imagination.I hear voices agreeing with me. “Yes, yes!” they cry. “The creative imagination is a tremendous plus in business! We value creativity, we reward it!” In the marketplace, the word creativity has come to mean the generation of ideas applicable to practical strategies to make larger profits. This reduction has gone on so long that the word creative can hardly be degraded further. I don't use it any more, yielding it to capitalists and academics to abuse as they like. But they can't have imagination.Imagination is not a means of making money. It has no place in the vocabulary of profit-making. It is not a weapon, though all weapons originate from it, and their use, or non-use, depends on it, as with all tools and their uses. The imagination is an essential tool of the mind, a fundamental way of thinking, an indispensable means of becoming and remaining human.” [ Words Are My Matter by Ursula K. Le Guin] Question: What doorways to truly being on fire has imagination opened for you? You're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, including Android, Amazon Music and Audible and join us next time! This week I'm back on the topic of creativity and why it's so important for creative people to give themselves radical permission to do their creative work. So many of us struggle with guilt over taking the time and space for our work. In this episode I talk about how to channel Trickster energy to give us the confidence to do our creative work anyway - whether or not we have the support of people in our lives, it makes any money, or we're scared of the changes it might cause if we truly commit to being creatives. You'll hear about why logical thinking isn't going to help when we are trying to decide if we have a right to make time and space for our creative work, and how the Trickster archetype can help us realize that simply wanting to do it is enough of a reason. Plus, I discuss why and how creative work can help intuitive, creative types heal from the trauma they accrue living in rational, capitalist societies.
