Send us a textEpica returns in full force with their 9th studio album, Aspiral — a testament to their evolution as symphonic metal mainstays. We recently caught up with powerhouse vocalist Simone Simons to discuss the journey behind the record, shaped by over two decades of experience and artistic growth. Drawing from the joys and challenges of motherhood and the rhythm of everyday life, Simone shares how these personal layers have fueled her creative fire. The album's title, "Aspiral," was inspired by a 1965 sculpture by Polish artist Stanisław Szukalski — representing the intricate, winding paths carved by the band's collective vision.Known for their grandiose sound and commanding live shows, Epica shows no signs of slowing down. With Aspiral in their arsenal, they continue to push boundaries while honoring the symphonic metal tradition they helped define. Simone also speaks on the thriving creative community she's cultivated through Patreon, a space that's inspired new artistic outlets beyond music, including photography. Aspiral is out now via Nuclear Blast Records — stream it, buy it, and experience it. Simone Simons is the lead singer for symphonic metal group, Epica, that just released their 9th studio album, Aspiral. The album title is derived from the eponymous bronze sculpture made by Polish sculptor and painter Stanisław Szukalski back in 1965. It stands for renewal and inspiration – keywords that define Epica in 2025. In Szukalski's work every detail is a piece of art on its own and there's always more to the story than you initially think. The band saw this as the perfect analogy for the creation of this album: each song stands on its own with a distinctive vibe and meaning, while together they enforce each other into a monumental effort. At the same time this symbolizes EPICA's group dynamic throughout this process: they have encouraged, inspired, and challenged each other repeatedly. Determined to achieve something that is greater than the sum of its parts, they left no stone unturned in their search for perfection. If it's up to creative people to push boundaries, then this sextet sure did just that. When the band was preparing to write a new album, they kept this in mind: to create, you must destroy. As mentioned earlier, this meant destroying the individual ego and create as a unity. You'll hear that this made the album even more personal and to the point. More alive and adventurous. But it also made EPICA destroy old underlying patterns to re-invent themselves and to create a bold new era for symphonic metal in general. The band felt the immense urge to focus on what really matters: emotions and melodies. In all capacities. As the new album is all about focus, the band asked contemporary sculptor Hedi Xandt (Rammstein, Ghost, Parkway Drive) to set all this into a stunning visual representation. It's a bold statement and a homage all in one. If the number 9 represents divinity, perfection, and spiritual growth, then this album is the modern interpretation of just that. Musically, lyrically, and visually. Breathe in, breathe out, 2025 belongs to EPICA.
Interview by Angela CroudaceIn an interview with Simone Simons, lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band Epica, we dive into the band's upcoming album Aspiral—a powerful reflection of their growth, both musically and personally. Simone describes Aspiral as a fresh start, where the band's continuous evolution is highlighted through their music and lyrics. The title of the album was inspired by a Stanislaw Szukalski bronze sculpture, a piece of art that left a profound impact on the band after a visit in 2022. Simone explains that the album's theme of rebirth, renewal, and self-discovery resonates deeply with the band members, as they navigate their individual struggles and experiences. The synergy between art and music is a key theme, with Szukalski's sculpture influencing not just the visuals but the emotional core of the album. The band embraced a unique writing process through isolated writing camps, allowing them to fully immerse in creating without distractions. Simone shared how the intimacy and collaboration during these camps fostered a stronger bond between the band members, helping them achieve creative heights while crafting songs with emotional depth.Simone also reflected on the emotional power of Epica's music, recalling poignant fan interBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Goed verhaal lekker kort. Kortom, LUISTEREN DUS!!

My 3 Questions To: Simone Simons (Epica) Sobre La Dosis
Last week, we started a conversation with Simone Simons, the lead singer of Dutch symphonic metal band Epica. We discussed how she got into singing and blending classical and contemporary techniques. This week, we continue the conversation as Simone talks about online singing lessons, taking pride in pregnant bellies, what singing felt like after giving birth, and our favorite Disney voices. She also dishes out some singing tips like using eyebrows to get to that high note and how she memorizes ALL THOSE LYRICS. This episode also shows so many facets of pregnancy and being a new mom that most people wouldn't normally consider. This is a truly heart-warming conversation between two moms, about motherhood and our shared passion for singing. Epica will be touring in North and South America throughout the rest of 2022, and throughout Europe in early 2023. They also recently released their new album, Omega, available on your regular streaming services, or purchase it online at epica.nl. In this episode, you will hear: Why you shouldn't be breathing too high The different types of breathing Keeping your shoulders calm, and your chest and belly active Our favorite Disney voices Singing after labor: understanding the changes in your body Epica's Wall of Death Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? The Dutch symphonic metal band EPICA was founded by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen after his departure from his previous group AFTER FOREVOR. Known worldwide for their incredible contributions to the genre, EPICA bring symphonic metal mastery and brutal death metal influences to the masses with a hypnotic yet pulverizing effect. EPICA released their latest studio album "Omega" in February 2021 and are still riding high off the LP's magnitude and epic songwriting delivered by the one-two punch of Jansen and co-vocalist Simone Simons. The band are also quickly approaching their 20th anniversary as a group with some very exciting plans for fans of EPICA this coming September, which Mark discusses in the podcast. Also, Loaded Radio's Johnny Rude joins Scott Penfold for the second portion of the show to discuss the week that was in hard rock and heavy metal.
Simone Simons may look like a supermodel – she has the blog, photographs and beauty partnerships to back it up – but she is much more than just the face of the Dutch metal band, Epica. Simone has a voice and a lifestyle to be reckoned with. Simone's vocals are widely recognized for both their beauty and power. As the frontwoman of a symphonic metal band with death metal tendencies, Simone brings versatility in singing styles, combining both classical and contemporary technique. In this episode, we discuss how she got into singing in the first place, how she blended classical and contemporary techniques, and how she kept her infant son quiet while recording. I also wanted to discuss something I have recently experienced as well – how pregnancy and being a mother actually affected the voice. And so, this is also a bonding conversation between two new moms! Epica will be touring in North and South America throughout the rest of 2022, and throughout Europe in early 2023. They also recently released their new album, Omega, available on your regular streaming services or purchase it online at epica.nl. In this episode, you will hear: Navigating pregnancy and motherhood Vocal rest and building endurance Head-banging techniques Getting the right tips and being able to apply them right away Classical singing techniques: body position, breathing, & reaching high notes How young is too young to sing opera? How every note is essentially its own register Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? We'd love for you to subscribe if you haven't yet.
We have been speaking to Simone Simons, vocalist for Dutch symphonic metal band Epica, for years, and each interview is an absolute pleasure to do. We discuss the band's new album, Omega, why the addition of a children's choir on the record was a bucket list item for them, the alternative ways they are looking to promote and present the album during the pandemic, the decision to record the album acoustically in addition to its standard version, how the downtime last year flew by despite the fact they couldn't tour, and how she is really antsy to get back on the road to play songs from Omega live. We also talk about writing the Essence of Epica book during the pandemic and the importance of getting many different sides of each story from each band member, as well as the story of a family member giving Simone negative feedback on her singing when she was 16. Petar, Brandon, and Sylvia talk about the allegations against Marilyn Manson from exes and peers alike and the massive blowback that has occurred, and we share our thoughts on all the details we saw last week via social media. Mark Jansen, guitarist of EPICA, was the guest of ZanZanA Live Stream Interview hosted by Karim Benamor on tuesday February 09th at 8:30 PM CET (gmt+1). After what Simone Simons describes as “having been sitting in a high-speed train without stopping at any destination whatsoever”, the band in 2018 decided it was high time for a well-deserved rest. As soon as the »The Holographic Principle« cycle came to a close with their 1000th show, the band went into hiatus. Alright, alright, they still finished their very first autobiography “The Essence of EPICA” during that time, but you just can’t expect a band like EPICA sitting still, idly twiddling their thumbs now, can you? “It was the first real break we allowed ourselves,” Simone Simons says. “It did us all good and gave us a chance to reflect on what’s been happening since 2003. It all went by so fast.” Realizing how much EPICA accomplished made them far from satisfied. Indeed, it rekindled the fire in their hearts, bringing them back together sooner than expected. ► Streaming links on various audio and video platforms : lnkfi.re/Epica ▬About ZanZanA ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ZanZanA is the official YouTube channel of the show METAL, hosted by Karim BENAMOR. One of the more graceful and profound voices in metal today, Simone Simons, joins the IUF podcast to talk about the newest album from the Dutch symphonic metal band, Epica. The eighth and new record “Omega”, went through such a diligent recording process from top to bottom. Simone talks about that experience despite the ongoing worldwide pandemic. She recorded her vocals remotely from the Bader Studios while working with renowned producer Joost Van Der Broek, who also brought in the likes of the City Of Prague Symphonic Orchestra to play such a vital role in Omega. Simone also describes life outside of music, and how it was important to stay invested within many quarantine-induced months – from spending time with her family to updating her detailed blog titled SmoonStyle, which is full of amazing tips and information from cooking to makeup to her own photography. There's so much more to Simone than the music life, so make sure to tune into this episode as she goes into many of the interests that feed her creativity within the band.
