Interview by Kris PetersSebastian Bach has been a busy man since releasing his last solo album Give 'Em Hell back in 2014.He launched popular tours such as 18 And LIVE as well as celebratory 30th-anniversary jaunts in honour of Skid Row's self-titled album and Slave To The Grind, performing each classic in its entirety. Not to mention, he unveiled his acclaimed autobiography 18 And Life On SKID ROW.The man is revered the world over as the original vocalist of Skid Row, unleashing a number of long-standing hit singles such as 18 And Life, I Remember You, Youth Gone Wild, Slave To The Grind, Wasted Time and Monkey Business, in the process taking heavy metal into countless more homes and ears than ever before and leaving an indelible mark that could possibly never be surpassed. Now, 10 years since Give 'Em Hell, Bach returns with Child Within The Man, promising nothing but everything fans could expect and more. It is an epic album and a triumphant continuation of an important and influential career from a man with an astonishing vocal range and larger than life persona. A celebration of past glories and a hint at more to come.Put simply, it is Sebastian Bach at his irrepressible best, with enough swagger to plough through an iceberg and more than enough attitude to spark a global sonic riot.HEAVY had the pleasure of chatting with Sebastian recently about his welcome return. We start by quoting the press release that states Child Within The Man is Bach's most unapologetic and undeniable album yet, and ask if he agrees."Well, I think this album is different because it's the first solo record I have where I've got a full team of people helping me," he measured. "So they're keeping me really busy doing interviews, and yesterday I spent all day autographing album flats that you're going to be able to get in record stores - hopefully in Australia, I don't know. But I have like a whole international team of people that are helping me, so I think that makes it undeniable. The fact that they got me back on the radio here in America is insane to me because I didn't think… I didn't know that that was still possible. I always hoped it was, but you always get labelled an 80s or hair band, and you think that a programmer won't play somebody with that label, but I am happy to say that that does not apply to me, thank you very much (laughs). It just feels incredible to have a song playing on the radio in 2024. It feels astonishing."In the full interview, Sebastian discusses his new album Child Within The Man, sharing insights into the production process, the positive reception of the singles, and the involvement of a full team in its release. He also talked about the emotional inspiration behind his song Everybody Bleeds, delving into his experiences as a father and his profound concerns for the future of the planet for his children.Additionally, Bach passionately recounted the journey of discovering his late father's painting, which became the album cover, and reflected on his history of intense touring. The conversation also touched on the potential for a new video featuring Orianthi, the collaboration with guest musicians like John 5, Steve Stevens, and Orianthi, and the absence of a song titled Child Within The Man. Sebastian also expressed his deep connection with Australia and his desire to tour extensively, aiming to perform in smaller towns and cities across the country.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
A show where we listen to a heavy metal album, and then argue about it. Hosted by Antony Johnston and Brian LeTendre.
Sebastian Bach is my latest guest on Talkin' Rock with Meltdown. He's dropping a new album, in his words, sooner than you think. "It's coming very, very soon." He talks about the first single "What Have I Got To Lose?" which you can see below. That song is co-written with Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge/Slash. He talked about joining up with him. Detroit's own John 5 is also on the album, along with others. He reminded me that this is the third album he's collaborated with 5. He also spoke about the fact that he wouldn't mind getting back with the original members of Skid Row. "Us five musicians haven't been in the same room together since 1996, and I barely remember the year 1996." He went on to say that he's over whatever happened in 1996. "I'm over it." He talked more about that, including the fact that he owns all sorts of demos and unreleased tracks from the early days of the band. Sebastian also talked about the Skid Row tour with a very young Soundgarden on the Slave To The Grind tour. When asked if he could see that band blow up like they did, he talked about the darker vibe of the grunge movement at the time. "I come from a time where rock and roll was nothing but fun." He elaborated "I didn't get into rock and roll to be depressed. I got into rock and roll to escape depression." He spoke of hanging with Chris Cornell after the shows and the ultimate demise of the legendary singer. We had to talk about KISS. He's a huge fan and told me the story of seeing the final show in New York. He also spoke highly of the KISS reunion show at Tiger Stadium in 1996. He called the show the "biggest rush" when they came on the stage that night. A moment he said he'd never forget. "Probably the most exciting concert moment of my life." Rob DeLuca from Spread Eagle playing with Sebastian for many years. He gave me some fun tour stories to ask him about. Those are crazy stories.

Rob's musical journey began at an early age in a small town outside of Buffalo, NY. Starting out in the cover scene, Rob quickly developed an appreciation for a solid back beat and playing for the song. An approach to drumming that he still considers the foundation for his style today. Later settling in Atlanta, GA, Rob's drumming quickly gained attention in the rock underground. Rob spent many years touring and recording with Atlanta rockers "Rockets to Ruin" and toured with "Gunfire 76" featuring "Murderdolls" frontman Wednesday 13. Rob also maintains a busy schedule of recording and working with many different bands and artists throughout the country. In April, 2010, Rob was offered the drum position in the multi-platinum selling rock band Skid Row. When asked about his new gig Hammersmith answered "Having always been a fan, it is an honor to be asked to join the band. The band's music and history holds a special place in both my life, and the lives of so many loyal fans. To be a part of that history is the chance of a lifetime."

In traffic, LEFT TURNS are often far more dangerous than right turns, often resulting in far more accidents that sadly, many never fully recover from. Somehow, the same rule holds true in Metal* (and potentially, even this podcast!) as well: some LEFT TURNS are legendary. But as is (sadly) far too often the case…many LEFT TURNS, not so much. Prepare for a lot of “marking the time”, find out who “smelled like a peach”, brace yourselves for some moments of “being up cool” tangentionalality* that are barely hanging on by a wispy string of sameness snot and JOIN US “up against the rail” in a “dry diaper” as we touch on BOLTH the recent Atlanta Metallica tour stop and some extremely notable (and legendary) LEFT TURNS in Metal.* *Metal is tangentional to everything and everything is tangentional to metal. Skid Row Guitarist Scotti Hill shares his early struggles and his dogged determination to overcome them - both personally and musically. “Nice to meet you, I have to take a piss…” The serendipity of a variety of events in Scotti's life is simply amazing, as is his courage to roll with the punches… Story of Scotti's sobriety, playing on SNL, jamming with Donald “Duck” Dunn, Shawshank Redemption, Skid Row's ups and downs and the band's determination to make it - a second time! Cycling, Japan, taking chances, and not sweating the small stuff, loads more. TOTALLY cool & inspiring conversation! If you'd like to support this show: http://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support Scotti Hill grew up on Long Island and started playing guitar at age 13, at his sister's encouragement. The guitar quickly became an obsession for him and when he was 14, his parents took him down to Manny's Music Store on 48th street in NYC and got him a 1978 Telecaster. At 16, he began hanging out in the local clubs and playing in cover bands. Scotti joined what would evolved into Skid Row at age 20, and since then he's toured the world multiple times, starting off playing corner stages in tiny road houses and growing to playing the biggest stadiums around. Skid Row's debut album sold over 5 million copies. The band's 2nd LP, Slave To The Grind debuts at #1 on Billboard. What's in a name? For a Metal musician, the surname (stage name?) of Slayes is most appropriate. Brittany Slayes, vox of Canadian power metaller, and Napalm recording artists, lives up to her moniker. Case in point - all throughout the band's recent North American tour. WE caught up with Miss. Esqueça a figura do Sebastian Bach por apenas um segundo. Esqueceu? Agora ouça esse disco - Slave to the Grind é um trabalho visceral, pesado, rápido e arrogante! E aqui no Play It Loud escutaremos Slave to the Grind, The Threat, Beggars Day e Get the Fuck Out - porque aqui não tem censura!

Skid Row Slave To The Grind
On June 11, 1991 rock and metal history was made when Skid Row released their followup album. Sophomore jinx? Nothing could be further from the truth. This week Aaron and Chris return to Wire World Studios to sit down with legendary producers Michael Wagener to discuss the landmark album, Slave to the Grind. The followup to the self-titled Skid Row debut album left its mark as it debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The album holds up today with its mix of sludgy guitars, dark lyrics, and powerful vocals from singer Sebastian Bach. In this discussion, Michael shares his memories of producing this album. You'll hear stories of the atmosphere of the recording process, the band's work ethic, and much, much more. Buy Music! (click artist name to purchase!) Skid Row More Michael Wagener!
