Titans of Metal Fest 2025: ¡Una primera edición demoledora! Cavalera is a name with its fingerprints all over the history of heavy metal, an inspiring family legacy built upon decades of musical aggression, starting all the way back in 1984 in Brazil with Sepultura.Over the last couple of years, Max and Iggor Cavalera revisited their first three releases, Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation, and Schizophrenia, re-recording them for Nuclear Blast Records with a new level of intensity that impossibly captures the raw, youthful and trademark sounds of these iconic and pioneering releases. This month will see them bring the songs that laid the groundwork for not just their own legacy, but that of both the death and thrash metal genres, to Australia for a series of live offerings that will add yet another chapter to their non-stop commitment to extreme metal.HEAVY caught up with Max Cavalera for a chat so good we have had to split it over two weeks. In today's second chapter, Max delves into his mindset when he went into the studio to revisit music from his past, how the new versions of all three albums are an improvement on the original, his thoughts on how the albums would have been received back then had they been recorded using the knowledge and experience he has today, the emotions that pass over him every time he steps on stage, the blending of experience and youthful exuberance in Cavalera that ensures the ball keeps rolling and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

"Let me break it down for you why I say nostalgic brutality. It's because it's the closest thing you can get to 1980s Brazil extreme metal scene. Morbid Visions, Bestial devastation, Schizophrenia… it's the brutality of those records, the way they're meant to sound, the way we meant them to sound. Just like the re-recordings, except it's live. It's all real, live shit. No gimmicks. No other crap. It's plug your amp and go."In the full interview, we discuss the set list in more detail, including potential cover songs and new tracks from re-recorded albums. Max shared his emotional experience of performing alongside family members, highlighting the unique chemistry between seasoned and younger musicians, and likening their bond to a "mafia" that ensures a lasting musical legacy. He also elaborated on the motivation behind re-recording classic albums, driven by a desire to enhance sound quality while maintaining the raw essence of the originals, identifying Schizophrenia as the standout performance and Morbid Visions as his favorite for its sonic qualities.Max introduced the other members of the band besides himself and Iggor, their plans on how to re-record those three classic albums to improve on the originals, what things they focused on and more.In part 2, coming next week, we talk about his mindset going into the studio, any difficulties he may have faced, what memories revisiting the albums brought back, having his son with him for the new recordings and plenty of other stuff.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
In the early 90s, Max Cavalera (then of Sepultura) and Alex Newport (then of Fudge Tunnel) both resided in Phoenix, Arizona. A shared admiration for each other's music led to regular hangouts and jam sessions at the Cavalera household. As avid fans of hardcore punk and industrial acts of the era, the duo blended these influences into their own raw, unconventional sound. Whereas songs written for Fudge Tunnel and Sepultura underwent intense scrutiny, this new project embraced unfiltered expression. From experimenting with samplers to smashing the occasional washing machine, no idea was too wild to explore. Cavalera and Newport, or Nailbomb, never intended for these recordings to leave the practice space. However, with some persuasion, these sessions were immortalized on the band's sole full-length release and later brought to life with a rotating lineup of friends at Dynamo Open Air the following year. Join us this week as we celebrate Nailbomb and their only release, Point Blank. Join us in this episode as we explore holistic approaches to managing chronic back pain with Steffan Cavalera, a dedicated physiotherapist from Kieser in Fitzroy. Steffan brings a wealth of experience, having personally endured and triumphed over an eight-year battle with chronic pain. Steffan's passion lies in the holistic treatment of low back pain, where he integrates the biopsychosocial model into his practice. He explains the distinctions between nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain, and delves into the complexities of central and peripheral sensitization. Drawing from real-life cases, Steffan illustrates how beliefs and past experiences can amplify nociceptive signals and influence pain perception. He shares insightful examples, including scenarios where beliefs about mobility hinder recovery from back pain, how fear and anxiety exacerbate neck pain, and challenges faced by individuals post-back surgery dealing with persistent low back pain. For practical solutions, Steffan discusses the importance of patient education, addressing environmental triggers, and implementing graded exposure to movement and loading. These strategies are essential in empowering individuals to take an active role in their recovery journey. Whether you're someone navigating chronic back pain or a healthcare professional seeking effective pain management strategies, this episode offers valuable insights and actionable steps toward holistic healing. Tune in to gain a deeper understanding of chronic pain management and discover how holistic approaches can pave the way to a pain-free life. Welcome back, metal maniacs! In this landmark 58th episode of the Metal Maniacs Podcast, hosts Jay Ingersoll and Modd embark on a deep dive into the career of one of the most influential and pioneering bands in metal history: Sepultura. This episode is the first of a two-part special that offers a comprehensive exploration of the band's journey from their earliest days to their groundbreaking album "Roots" and the eventual departure of frontman Max Cavalera. Our journey begins in the gritty streets of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where a group of young, passionate musicians came together to form Sepultura. We'll explore how the Cavalera brothers, Max and Igor, alongside Paulo Jr. and Jairo Guedz, channeled their love for metal into creating a band that would soon take the world by storm. Our deep dive into Sepultura's discography starts with their raw and unpolished debut album, "Morbid Visions." Released in 1986, this album showcased a band brimming with potential, even if the production quality left much to be desired. We'll discuss tracks like "Troops of Doom" and how this early work laid the groundwork for their future sound. We'll also touch upon the band's first EP, "Bestial Devastation," which shared the same raw energy and hinted at what was to come. Next, we'll move on to "Schizophrenia," released in 1987. This album marked a significant step forward in both musicianship and production quality. With the addition of Andreas Kisser on guitar, Sepultura's sound became more complex and refined. We'll break down standout tracks like "From the Past Comes the Storms" and "Escape to the Void," highlighting how the band began to develop their unique style. The 1989 release of "Beneath the Remains" saw Sepultura truly coming into their own. Produced by Scott Burns, this album was a critical and commercial success, earning praise for its tight musicianship and powerful production. We'll explore how tracks like "Inner Self" and "Stronger Than Hate" showcased the band's ability to blend aggression with melody, setting a new standard for thrash metal. Our exploration continues with "Arise," released in 1991. The success of "Arise" propelled Sepultura to international stardom, leading to extensive tours and a growing fanbase. Released in 1993, "Chaos A.D." marked a significant shift in Sepultura's sound, as they began incorporating elements of groove metal and hardcore punk. The climax of this episode is the groundbreaking "Roots," released in 1996. This album saw Sepultura embracing their Brazilian heritage, infusing traditional rhythms, instruments, and chants into their music. As we conclude this episode, we'll address the dramatic split with Max Cavalera in 1996. We'll delve into the events leading up to his departure, the tensions within the band, and the impact it had on Sepultura's future. As always, we love to hear from our listeners! We'll be sharing comments, questions, and stories from Sepultura fans around the world. Your insights and experiences add a personal touch to our exploration, making it a true community celebration of one of metal's greatest bands. Join Jay and Modd for an epic deep dive into the rise of Sepultura, from their raw beginnings with "Morbid Visions" to the groundbreaking "Roots" album and the departure of Max Cavalera. This first part of our two-episode special is packed with music, history, and insights that every metal fan will appreciate. So grab your headphones, turn up the volume, and get ready to thrash as we celebrate the legacy of Sepultura on Metal Maniacs Podcast! ¿Por qué Sepultura se separó en los 90? ¿Justo en el momento peak de la banda? ¿Tuvo algo que ver la relación de Max y Gloria? Alfredo Lewin te lo cuenta todo en este capítulo.
Max Cavalera reminisces about an unforgettable experience at the Sonic Temple festival, highlighting the electrifying performances and crowd reactions that made it one of Soulfly's best shows ever. He recounts the intense energy of the crowd demanding an encore. Cavalera also shares the unique excitement of balancing small club gigs with massive festival stages, and the joy of re-recording classic Sepultura tracks with improved sound quality. Throughout, he emphasizes the raw, unfiltered passion that drives his performances and projects. Max Cavalera discusses the process of translating lyrics from Portuguese to English for his early music and its impact on the songwriting. He recalls learning English by translating Black Sabbath albums with a dictionary. Max mentions his experiences rerecording old albums like "Schizophrenia" and how these rerecordings retain some imperfections from the original. Additionally, Max talks about his ventures into the coffee business with products like Blood Brothers coffee and Soulfly Healer coffee that are produced by Concept Cafes. Mike Tonsetic from Concept Cafes discusses his unique approach to combining metal music and coffee. He emphasizes the immersive experience they aim to create, drawing inspiration from the metal scene and ensuring high-quality, specialty coffee with engaging packaging. Mike explains the collaborative process with bands to match their preferences, resulting in a product both artists and fans can enjoy. The company prioritizes ethical sourcing, working with indigenous women farmers and ensuring fair working conditions. He also highlights the health benefits of coffee, contrasting it with energy drinks and other caffeinated products. He emphasized that premium coffees like Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain are priced high due to their rarity, not necessarily superior quality compared to Brazilian or Colombian beans. Highlighting innovation, he praised new fermentation techniques from regions like Tanzania and Colombia, which enhance coffee flavors significantly. Mike also described their unique approach of collaborating with metal bands like Cannibal Corpse, blending subcultural elements with high-quality coffee to create artist-supportive products. This strategy extends to various subcultures, aiming to offer genuine experiences and foster cross-cultural appreciation.Get your Blood Brothers and Healer Coffees at https://www.conceptcafes.com Joshua Toomey on Facebook/Twitter @talktoomeytalk Subscribe to KNOTFEST YouTube for exclusive performances & in-depth interviews with the most exciting artists in aggressive music, deep dives into iconic artists' discography, and more. One of the absolute best supergroups ever, yet still massively underrated - Sanders, Puciato, Cavalera, and Koller...unreal. At times, it's perfectly Mastodon meets Soulfy meets DEP, and at other times it's a completely new thing that doesn't exist elsewhere. - IF you've never heard them, you need to...like yesterday. - This episode's special guest song comes from The Chaos Pattern. The 2 man project featuring our dude Aaron Street. He's also currently in Godhammered and is a 2-time guest, featured on the Fear Factory and Sepultura episodes...so stick around to the end and catch their song "The Setting Sun". - Let us know your fave Killer Be Killed songs over at: https://linktr.ee/metallistpodcast - Theme Song by Godhammered at: https://linktr.ee/godhammered - Special Guest is The Chaos Pattern at: https://www.youtube.com/@ADStreet1984

In Episode 184 I look at old rock and metal bands re-animating old albums and reaching back into their youth for inspiration, is it a simply cash grab to sell some merch and a reason to tour or a genuine attempt to rediscover their mojo? or both, or....who the hell cares and any musician can do as they please with what they create....that and some random social commentary, the othering of those you disagree with, the Cavalera brothers, hate speech and is it the end of the humble rock bar? to be continued.....my youtube channelhttps://youtu.be/dumRwP2Euos?si=36hbYJ4DHppu3kbQsupport the band sponsoring todays podcast! :Bandcamp: beithioch.bandcamp.com Instagram: @beithiochmusic support the show over athttp://www.patreon.com/AlanAverillsponsored byMetal Blade recordshttps://metalblade.indiemerch.com/promo code AA 2023 for 10% off your orderships worldwidefor professional band backdrops or other requests contact :alan.averill@gmail.comPrimordial on Spotifyhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0BZr6...Verminous Serpenthttps://open.spotify.com/artist/54Wpl...Dread Sovereignhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/60HY4...Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. The Shit Talk guys had a great conversation with the talented Igor Amadeus Cavalera. Igor is a talented guitar and bass player, vocalist, songwriter author, outdoor enthusiast and all-around socially conscious fella. Growing up in a hugely musical family, Igor was predisposed to the industry at an early age and latched right on. He's a great cat and the guys had a great time getting to know what turns Igor's wheels. The Cavalera family founded The Iggy Fund in 1998 with the Phoenix Children's Foundation to assist families in need who have children with diabetes. The fund provides Iggy Kits that contain the medicine and supplies they need to help manage the autoimmune disease. They've had great success in helping families for many years but they can always use more support. Toomey and Ro dive into the Korn x Adidas Collaboration. Is this 30 years too late? Will you wear a Korn x Adidas track suit? The guys discuss Ro attending the Power Trip Festival. Ro only got to see the Tool/Metallica day and gives a lengthy review of Tool and the visuals. Metallica started out sounding rough but once the sound kicked in the band killed it. Ro talks about the merch lines being insane and parking miles from the venue. Ro's trek to see Cavalera is up next. The guys talk about their shared love of Chaos A.D. and hoping Max and company will tour that record. Ro lets us know how the show went and feeling the bands were ready for the tour to end. Ro found $6 Run The Jewels tickets and had to hit that show up. Tenacious D opened the show and RTJ ruled. The BabyKlok show is broken down. Ro still hates SoFi but he loves DethKlok. This week's Nu or Nah: Powerman 5000.
