This week and next on the Profile, Watchman senior apologist Dr. Brady Blevins talks with counter-cult apologist Steve Matthews about the recent split of the International Christian Church (ICC), founded by the controversial and charismatic leader Kip McKean. Not only did the ICC recently split, it also disfellowshipped McKean himself for inappropriate behavior, some of which McKean has publicly acknowledged. The new breakaway from the ICC now calls itself the Restored Church Worldwide (RCW). In addition, this past January, the RCW "restored" McKean, not in a position of leadership, but as a member. Steve shares with us some of the details and background of the split and the history of McKean's association with the ICOC, the ICC, and now the RCW. For more background about the ICC and ICOC, you can listen to our previous episodes with Steve here. What is up everyone! Got a new episode up for the "We Were In a Cult?" series here on the Clemenz with a "Z" podcast. I was able to chat with former member of the ICOC Tania. Tania was a member of the Mexico City Church, a missionary that planted one of our churches in Cuba, and a leader in the Boston Church. In our conversation we discussed topics such as the colonization of faith, how much work was required of members, the toxic nature of missionaries, and how women were viewed in the church and leadership. If you are a member, were a member, or know someone who was a member of the ICOC or the ICC and would like to share your story of your life in and out of the church and help us maybe get closer to answering the question "we were in a cult?", and maybe find some healing please contact me via email at clemenzwithaz@gmail.com or you can DM via Instagram at the "Clemenz With a "Z" podcast" Instagram page. As always, thank you for your continued support and if you like what you hear please rate and review! If you don't remember, I'm just a channel, I ain't the source.
The Boston Church of Christ recently had an Easter Worship service in which 1,000 guests visited. This is impressive for a church of 2,200 members. What makes it remarkable is that an estimated 600 of those were not invited directly by disciples, they found out about it from a social media outreach effort spearheaded by Stuart Mains. He and his wife, Ashley, lead the downtown ministry of the Boston Church. Listen today as he talks about how over the past few years, he's tinkered, experimented and built an online platform to bring seekers into God's church. He shares practically and specifically how you can be effective reaching the lost through social media. I hope you're doing well. In this week's episode Brady Blevins and Steve Matthews conclude their conversation about Kip McKean, World Missions Evangelist of the controversial International Christian Church (ICC). Brady and Steve address some questions underlying decades of criticism the the movement has received from Christian discernment ministries and secular cult-watch organizations: How can we distinguish between a strong commitment to Christian discipleship and inappropriate high-demand organizations which can foster spiritual abuse? To what degree and on what level should a "discipler" be given control of a follower's personal discussion-making? Does salvation require water baptism into a ICC-style "discipling" church? In this week's episode Brady Blevins and Steve Matthews discuss Kip McKean, World Missions Evangelist of the controversial International Christian Church (ICC), a worldwide movement headquartered in Los Angeles. In part one of this two-part discussion we explore the history, growth and some of the criticisms directed at the organization that first began as an on campus discipling ministry of the Crossroads Church of Christ at the University of Florida in Gainesville. McKean became the world leader when the sect was known as the Boston Church of Christ and later as the group expanded its worldwide strategies under the name International Church of Christ (ICOC). In the midst of external and internal criticisms and calls for reform, McKean resigned from the ICOC later forming his rival organization, the ICC. The movement has been under fire for decades even being banned from major university campuses including "American University, the University of Lowell (Mass.), Birmingham University (United Kingdom), the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), Boston College, Marquette University, Boston University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvard University, the University of London (United Kingdom), Vanderbilt University, the University of Miami, Northeastern University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Smith College, the United States Military Academy, the University of Southern California and York University (Canada)."1 Why is the ICC so popular and what drives the criticisms? Brady and Steve discuss some of the controversies surrounding Kip McKean and the ICC including their theological distinctives and questionable discipleship practices. The promise of Immanuel in Isaiah 7 is fulfilled in Jesus. Jesus is our Immanuel. Immune means God with us. We celebrate Christmas because God kept His promise. In this sermon we talk about the love of God and what that really means for the Christian and the non-Christian.
Advent hope is the story of the God is who is there and the God that willingly chooses to step into this world with the goal of making all things new in Him again. During advent we are reminded that in this tragic and broken world that things will not always remain broken. God in Christ will come to heal broken people damaged by the reality of sin. He is the God who draws near to each of us.
The Bible assumes money belongs to God therefore it goes to great lengths to give us a correct understanding of how to view and use money. This is especially true in the Proverbs. The question Proverbs asks: “Do I control money, or does money control me?”
The vision at Redemption City Church is that it would become a place that honors and promotes marriage no matter what culture says or feels. That by the grace of God marriages in this church will flourish for the glory of God and the good of the city. Here is how Proverbs can help us and how wisdom makes all the difference in the world.
If we’re honest, humility doesn’t come easy to us. Pride is way too easy. We really love ourselves. Yet, the theme of humility is pervasive throughout the book of Proverbs. This book never stops begging us to have a teachable spirit. The Bible is so clear on this as well. In this sermon we explore what humility is and how to cultivate it on our life.
Your sexuality matters, whether married or single. Being a man is a gospel privilege, and being a woman is a gospel privilege. What we are is about the gospel. That’s why we need to learn gospel sexuality. Proverbs 6-7, the father counsels his son about this massively significant area of life. The counsel is addressed to a son but applies equally to women.
Sacrifice and devotion is the means God uses to advance His kingdom. In this sermon, you'll hear the heartbeat of the church and what it will take to get there.

Unexpected Mercy, Luke 7:11-17
This week, Pastor Juan wraps up our series on Nehemiah and challenges us to be a people of conviction, not of compromise.
Pastor Juan preaches on Nehemiah 11 and 12, focusing on how we are called to be a people who celebrate the deeds of God, as well as who encourage and pray for the leaders within our church.
What does it mean to covenant together as the people of God? This week, Pastor Juan breaks down how the Israelites entered into a covenant with one another after the rebuilding of the wall (Nehemiah 9:38-10:28) and how we as a church should do the same.
In this week's sermon on Nehemiah 9, we see that God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Repentance is our response to the kindness of God.
This week, we see through Nehemiah 8 how the word of God transforms the people of God. Pastor Juan also discusses how we should approach scripture and apply it to our lives.
As we look at Nehemiah 6:1-7:4 this week, we learn about Nehemiah's endurance to build the wall and apply that same endurance to our lives as followers of Jesus.
How do we handle injustice, both outside and inside the church? How does the gospel shape how we view justice? Listen as Pastor Juan unpacks Nehemiah 5 and why we are called to be merciful people.
Nehemiah and the Israelites rebuilding the wall faced great opposition as they worked, and as followers of Jesus, we should not be surprised when we face the same. In this sermon, Pastor Juan shares how Nehemiah received and responded to opposition, and how our confidence in Christ causes us to be immovable in the midst of it.
“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" 1 Corinthians 15:55
In this week's sermon, we look at Nehemiah 3 and hear about the people who served in rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. Pastor Juan shares how this group of people mirrors the church today, and why we as Christians are called to serve.
Just as Nehemiah had a vision for rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, we have a vision as a church to see God renew the city of Boston. Listen as Pastor Juan unpacks how we walk out this vision.
We focus on Nehemiah 2:1-8 this week and hear about Nehemiah's courage to take action towards rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem.
We begin our sermon series in Nehemiah, an Old Testament book full of brokenness, vision, hope and renewal.

Church History: Chapter 23 – Baptist History – Part 1 and 2 Many associate the Baptist Church to the Anabaptist and Mennonite movement, which share the belief of “believer’s baptism”. The Free Church movement in England gave birth to a number of Christian expressions, and was to establish a faith and practice that was free form domination and “control” by “secular” or government forces. The printing press had a powerful influence on the Free Church movement in that Bibles were printed for all to read. As people sought to live out a direct and personal relationship to God instead of just affiliating with the local Church, the Free Church was begun. Roger Williams, John Clarke, and Henry Dunster were instrumental in helping the Baptist movement to grow in early America.
