This episode of In Your Head , Dr Leigh Richardson had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Jon Lieff, a true pioneer in psychiatry and geriatric mental health, about the intricate relationship between the brain and the mind. They delved into fascinating questions: Does the brain create the mind? Does the mind exist beyond our neural networks, extending into nature itself? Dr. Lieff highlighted the interplay between our wired brain—where neurons and dendrites connect and communicate—and our wireless brain, which enables cellular interaction on a dynamic, almost magical level. When our cells engage in active communication, we experience neuroplasticity at its best—a joyful, meaningful mental state that influences our well-being. His book for general scientific readers, The Secret Language of Cells, has been a best seller in cell biology and describes the detailed communication in cells throughout the body, the brain, microbes, and organelles. It shows how this ubiquitous signaling among all cells is not just the basis of brain functions, but the basis of brain body communication, immunity, and in fact all of biology. Dr. Lieff, a Yale and Harvard-trained physician, has made groundbreaking contributions to geriatric psychiatry, creating integrated treatment models and pioneering complementary medicine programs for complex patients. His work has not only improved the lives of countless patients but also advanced our understanding of the brain and mind connection. If you're curious about how our brain influences our perception of reality and the mind's role in our daily experiences, don't miss this episode. It's Mind Change Monday!Today, a talk about whether we're stuck with our feelings, diagnoses, or past traumas, or not. Am I just a skin sack of neurons? Or I am I fearfully and wonderfully made? What if we actually have a tremendous amount of control over these things? The good news is, we do! How we think changes how we live, even if we've been through TBI, TMT, or any other type of problem. No diagnosis is more powerful than the incredible smashing together of your brain, mind, and spirit. Why? We are told that we are wired to do... And that is wrong ... Our brain and our mind are changing every moment ...Brain surgery teaches us, that when even a bigger part (might be the half) of the brain is damaged or cut out, other parts of the brain are overtaking these missing parts of the brain. The brain has only one part that always has to function and that is the reptile brain, which is connected to all of the nerves ... All the other parts of the brain can be replaced by other parts of the brain.Imagine there is a big lake, and you take away a bucket of water ... Do you think that you have changed anything? No!Imagine you throw a stone into the lake and the stone will create ripples or even small waves, afterward, the lake is the same! The lake is our brain and the stone is a thought or emotion ... After some time, the effect will subside ...The thoughts or emotions are caused by many different areas of our brain simultaneously ... It is actually nothing wired ...Every brain cell is connected like the water molecules in the water. ..When we have a thought that is important for us, then it is like a concert with many instruments playing ...Many brain cells are involved ...For instance, the athletes or artists are telling us to be in the Zone/Flow...If they are in the Zone:Then they reach their highest effectiveness. They are relaxed. And they are doing their craft, art, and sport effortlessly. Or to do without doing. (Wu Wei, Tao)This state of the brain/mind can be reached if the participant has learned their craft and is not bored or over-excited ... ..In the Flow, the brain excludes every thought/emotion that doesn't fit to the doing. What about emotional traumas? In our brain are stored memories Different parts can be different parts of that memory.Like the stupid “windows system” is doing so.The emotion that is fitting to that trauma is stored in a different part of the brain from that memory. The problem is the emotions from our trauma hinder us to think and feel independent of our trauma. There is only one way to get rid of that trauma and, to feel the suppressed emotions of that memory. Don't try NLP for traumas, it makes everything worse. We have to unblock our mind, and our brain by releasing the emotions of our traumas. Are these traumas good? Yes.For instance cancer patients are traumatized by getting their diagnosis of having cancer. After some time they accept their life-threatening cancer and value their time much more.If the cancer is cured, for them is their life quality much more than anything elseMy Video: How to understand the brain-mind connection? https://youtu.be/tGIbkVl6mhwMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast2/How-to-understand-the-brain-mind-connection.mp3

"This is a point in philosophy that the world as it is can never be directly apprehended by our minds. We are shielded from it by what's called a sensory veil. There are, for instance, no such thing as colors that are out there. As the artist Cezanne said, 'The colors are where the brain and the universe meet.' And color is, I think, a really good example because it is, in a sense, less than what's there because our eyes are only sensitive to three wavelengths of this huge electromagnetic spectrum, which goes all the way from x-rays and gamma rays to radio waves. And we live in a tiny, thin slice of that reality. But then out of those three wavelengths we experience our brains generate many more than three colors and almost an infinite palette of colors. So there's no sense in which our perception could ever reveal the world as it really is, that it reveals the world in a way that's very useful for us as organisms hell-bent on continuing to live and to survive."Anil Seth is a neuroscientist, author, and public speaker who has pioneered research into the brain basis of consciousness for more than twenty years. "Whenever we are conscious, we are conscious of something, or of many things. These are the contents of consciousness. To understand how they come about, and what I mean by controlled hallucination, let's change our perspective. Imagine for a moment, that you are the brain.Really try to think about what it's like up there, sealed inside the bony vault of a skull, trying to figure out what's out there in the world. There's no light, no sound, no anything - it's completely dark and utterly silent. When trying to form perceptions, all the brain has to go on is a constant barrage of electrical signals, which are only indirectly related to things out there in the world, whatever they may be. These sensory inputs don't come with labels attached... How does the brain transform these inherently ambiguous sensory signals into a coherent perceptual world full of objects and people, and places?"– ANIL SETHBeing You: A New Science of ConsciousnessAnil Seth is a neuroscientist, author, and public speaker who has pioneered research into the brain basis of consciousness for more than twenty years. "ChatGPT can play on our anthropomorphic tendencies and convince us that there's a mind there, even though what it's going on is just statistics under the hood. And that's dangerous if we live in a world where we feel like we're interacting with other conscious minds, even though we know we are not. And we nonetheless feel it's conscious because of the way our mind works, not because of the way its system works."Anil Seth is a neuroscientist, author, and public speaker who has pioneered research into the brain basis of consciousness for more than twenty years. #117 | The Art of Practicing Book Club: "The Body Keeps The Score: Brain, Mind & Body in the healing of trauma" + how to apply the concepts In this episode, fellow Reiki & Dowsing Energy Practitioner and Life Coach Brigitta Dau and I chat about "The Body Keeps The Score: Brain, Mind & Body in the healing of trauma" by Bessel van der Kolk about the way the body responds to psychological trauma. This book was released in 2014 and it became one of the most widely read books in the pandemic world. The Body Keeps the Score is the inspiring story of how a group of therapists and scientists— together with their courageous and memorable patients—has struggled to integrate recent advances in brain science, attachment research, and body awareness into treatments that can free trauma survivors from the tyranny of the past. These new paths to recovery activate the brain's natural neuroplasticity to rewire disturbed functioning and rebuild step by step the ability to “know what you know and feel what you feel.” They also offer experiences that directly counteract the helplessness and invisibility associated with trauma, enabling both adults and children to reclaim ownership of their bodies and their lives. We wanted to give a Trigger Warning. We are going to talk about where trauma comes from & how it possibly manifests. We're just giving you some advance warning so you can take care of yourself. Some symptoms require immediate emergency care. Many associate Brain and Mind as one and the same. The brain is the organ that rests inside the skull. It's like a computer made up neurons that wire the entirety of the physical body to control autonomic and somatic functions.Mind is the universal wisdom, energy, and inspiration that animates all of life. It is the more spiritual essence alive in us all and thriving in every moment.Of course there is a Brain-Mind connection, as the non-local mind lives in brain cells, as well as every other cell and fragment of the universe. On Medicinal Monday's Alter Your Health from Head to Toe we discussed optimizing the physiology of the brain addressing the common issues of vascular health, metabolic function, and toxicity associated with such issues like brain fog, stroke, and age related cognitive decline, or dementia. In today's Wisdom Wednesday where we share Insights from Head to Toe, we draw the connections between Mind and Brain. Of course, the ever-shifting state of the nervous system feeds back to effect neurophysiology. We share our insights around the mindset to optimize cognitive clarity as we age in today's episode.Join the conversations live on YouTube every Wednesday: https://www.youtube.com/alterhealthSome highlights from today's WW episode...⁃How physiologic stress causes a state of confusion or lack of clarity⁃Chronic stress leads to chronic inflammation (including neuroinflammation), manifesting as symptoms of brain fog, as well as cognitive decline⁃Chronic stress increase the progression of atherosclerosis and insulin resistance, two of the major risk factors of Alzheimers. ⁃Age-related cognitive decline may be a symptom of our refusal to deal with the world- Memory issues or brain fog are a way we can distract ourselves from a world we cannot acceptLinks to some more good stuff- Join Alter Health on Locals: https://alterhealth.locals.com- Stay connected on Telegram: https://t.me/alterhealth- Cleanse with Us during the next Alter Health Cleanse: https://www.alter.health/cleanse- Work with us in the Thrive on Plants program: https://www.alter.health/thrive-on-plants- ATTN Health Practitioners! "When people are chronically angry or scared, constant muscle tension ultimately leads to spasms, back pain, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain. They may visit multiple specialists, undergo extensive diagnostic tests, and be prescribed multiple medications, some of which may provide temporary relief but all of which fail to address the underlying issues. Their diagnosis will come to define their reality without ever being identified as a symptom of their attempt to cope with trauma." THIS WEEK we will view what it means to be beyond the mind as well as look at the correlation of the brain system and consciousness. We will discuss Meditation as well as what we have come to call positive affirmations and why they have the opposite effect of what is expected. In the Infallible Way, instead of running concepts through the mind that create mind traps, we will discuss going beyond resistance to Truth and realize wholeness and abundance when life builds upon the foundation of Truth.
