We're back (again, again, again...) with our first episode in over a month. We apologize, but as you'll hear in the episode, a lot has changed since we last recorded. However, the podcast has not. So have some fun with us on this one, as we shake off some rust, get into a groove, and finish a little sloppy (sounds like my sex life). Whatever - we had fun. Hope you do too! Enjoy! Do you think this is weird? Also on the show, we heard some adorable audio from a baby who just can't decide if he's happy or sad, Steve got some adorable audio of Charlotte reading to her baby sister in his Daddy Tips segment, and would you consider a speech from Austin Powers to be a good soliloquy to read for an acting class? All of that and much more on today's show!

Episode 101 – We Got Some Catchin’ Up To Do Who do Pete and Gretchen think they are? They hit 100 episodes and then… crickets! Well, they are back and have some catching up to do. Gretchen starts out the show with a reveal on some reflecting she is doing. It gets deep and emotional. But have no fear, the hilarity ensues from there. Gretchen claims there is a way to work out in her sleep. She talks #viewsfromthecouch. Pete updates us on his training, including bird attacks, things seen on his run, and a “mean girls” moment. Pete also reveals some bets he has made with his friend, Kevin, for weight loss. No way he wants to lose to that guy, so you know he is motivated. The couple also talks about their experience with Mr. Bevis BBQ Rubs. These are fantastic and you should check them out. This is an unpaid endorsement but be sure to tell them you heard about it on the FatMan Chronicles podcast! Finally, they talk about consistency in recording and releasing podcasts. They are only 101 episodes in, so now is as good a time as any to nail this down. Now, get out there and #bebettertoday! Welcome to Episode 205 of Succotash Shut-In, the Soundcast Stimulus Package. I’m your every-other-edition host Marc Hershon, switching off with the inimitable Tyson Saner. And we are doing our best during this time of pandemic and – since the most recent installment – extreme civic unrest, to bring you fresh comedy soundcast tidbits every week. I have a special treat for you this week, departing from playing a sampling of several comedy soundcasts to, instead, bring you a conversation I held via Skype with comedian, writer, raconteur, and friend-of-the-show Greg Proops! You likely know Greg from his years of appearing on TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway?, both before they added the question mark to the title and afterwards. He’s also been soundcasting for years with his show The Smartest Man in the World, and wrote The Smartest Book in the World in 2015. He’s got a list of TV and movie credits you can check out on IMDB.com as well. He and I go back a long way, to when we were both with the house improv comedy group at The Punch Line comedy club in San Francisco starting in 1986. We run into each other every couple of years at things like the San Francisco Sketchfest, or Comedy Day in Golden Gate Park. But since the last time we had Greg on the show was a couple of times in 2015 – for a full episode in May of that year and in a minisode I put together during the 4th Annual Los Angeles Podcast Festival in September, it seemed a good time to bring him back. Like many of the rest of us, Greg has been sequestered at home during the current COVID-19 crisis which, for him, is in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Jennifer Canaga, have been continuing to do episode of The Smartest Man in the World from their "Fortress of Proopitude", and we’ll get into that in this show's discussion. We also talk about what the state of live performing might be like if and when thing open back up more fully, what it’s like to do comedy for audiences via Zoom, and we also talk about our mutual friend Will Durst, who is still recovering from a stroke suffered last fall. This episode of Succotash Shut-In is sponsored by Henderson’s Pants and their new Peersucker Pants. And also by Trumpoetry.com. Before you know it, Epi206 will be here, hosted by Tyson Saner but, in the meantime, if you’d like to email me with any questions you’d like to hear sampled on our show, shoot me a note at marc@SuccotashShow.com. And if you ARE a comedy soundcaster, listen in for details from our booth announcer, Bill Heywatt, on how you can upload a clip directly to us! So as I get out of here, let me remind you that if you liked the show, please rate and review us on Apple Podcasts and don’t be afraid to pass the Succotash to someone you care about. — Marc Hershon

Can't tell you how good it was to hear this voice on the other end of the phone tonight when former QYK morning man Cledus T. Judd called in to say hi. He's been all over CMT this past week with his new music video for his parody of Morgan Wallen's "Up Down" called "(Weight's Goin' Up Down Up Down). Cledus stepped away from a lucrative career on a successful morning show with the late Dave McKay and Veronica. Being so far away from his young daugther was difficult. I remember he'd do the drive back to Georgia often to see her. In our conversation, Cledus shares some very personal information about the decision he had to make. It was also a little heartbreaking to hear Cledus doubting whether or not his fans still wanted to hear his work. When I posted the music video on my QYK page this past week, the response was instant. And you can tell it means a lot to Cledus to know his friends and fans still want to hear more. What about a show in Tampa? What does Morgan Wallen think about his parody? What does he have up his sleeve for potential future parodies? He tell us one about Tiger Woods that's going to crack you up. Enjoy this talk with one of the nicest and funniest guys I know!

The Succotash format is pretty much out the window this week, because I had a chance to sit down for an in-depth backstage interview with Craig Shoemaker when he was at Tommy T’s in San Francisco recently. So that takes up a bunch of show, only leaving time for a couple of podcast clips and a couple of other goodies. Plus Craig is not this episode's only interview. More on that in a paragraph or two. Regarding "Shoe", if you're not familiar with him, where the hell have you been? The guy's been around for about three decades, doing standup, acting, writing, radio...the list of stuff he's done goes on and on. Here are a few particulars: He caught fire for years as his deep-voiced character called The Lovemaster, but that is backed up by solid time served as the consummate journeyman comic. He's shot comedy specials for TV (including his most recent, Daditude), starred in films (such as Should Have Been Romeo) and even has written a couple of children's books (such as What You Have Now, Your Daddy Had Then.) He still does club dates and is the host of Laugh It Off, a live two-hour video webcast/podcast that "airs" every Monday from noon until 2 PM. I caught up with him during his recent stint in the Bay Area and it was a great time that had been put off way too long. (Craig and I hit Los Angeles about the same time in the late 80s and we ended up hanging out a bit and even writing material together for a while.) But before we corner Craig in the green room, I kick off the show with a short chat with friend-of-the-show Phil Leirness! He, of podcasting's Thje Chillpak Hollywood Hour, along with co-host Dean Haglund have kicked off a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a new documentary project. Hieroglyph of The Human Soul features the art, philosophy and insights of actor/artist/ philosopher Leigh McCloskey. While it's not a comedic subject, I figure it's worthwhile to spare a little webtime for a guy who believes so passionate about the positive aspects of the human spirit. You can click the link above or in the side column of the SuccotashShow.com website to get in on this movie-making opportunity. The rest of the episode unwinds like so: This Week With Larry Miller Larry Miller is on the mend from the accident he had MONTHS ago. He’s still not back up to 100%, which is why they are rerunning episodes of This Week With Larry Miller over on the ACE Broadcasting network. But Larry speaks! That’s right. This week, there is a short message from him at the top of the show. So I grabbed it for you here. Apocalypse & Armageddon The guys behind this site did a funny video ad for their Commemorative Rapture Jesus Gnome. I've crunched it down to audio so you can hear, but this is funny enough to go check out on iTunes! S&M Rants I’ve featured these guys before, but it’s been a while, so thanks for the clip, guys! The S&M Rants Podcast is a weekly humor podcast featuring co-hosts Shane Birley and Monica Hamburg. Want to hear bad erotica, painful Craigslist ads or learn about Chewbacca sex fantasies? Join them - and their guest judges - for the deranged goodness. We do have a classic Henderson's Pants spot this epi. Our Burst O' Durst segment is NOT around this week, as political comic Will Durst is on a sabbatical to write a new e-book. He should be back next episode. Odds & Ends This past week I reviewed the Story Worthy podcast with guest Blaine Capatch as part of Jesse Fox's roundup in This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com, along with an honorable mention for Fitzdog Radio with guest Jay Mohr. You can now rate Succotash on Stitcher Smart Radio. It's just a simple Thumbs Up (or Thumbs Down) and all you have to do is click over to our listing on their site. You can also give us stars and dash off a quick review over on iTunes, which really helps us to gain visibility in the sea of over 10,000 podcasts that are out there these day. That's about it, but isn't it enough? With the two interviews and the clips we have, the show nets out at about one hour and twenty minutes. So I hope you brought enough appetite for all of it, and that you have room left to pass the Succotash. — Marc Hershon
