Today, Hunter is joined once again by Justice Text Co-Founder Devshi Mehrotra to discuss how Justice Text is helping Public Defender Office's enter the digital era. This time, Devshi brought Elisabeth Pollock, Chief of the Champaign IL Public Defender Office, to talk about the serious digital overhaul Elisabeth undertook once she took charge of the office. Coming from the federal system, Elisabeth was used to a fully digital system, so it came as quiet a shock when Elisabeth realized that her new office in Champaign County was a completely paper-based system. Thankfully with the help of Justice Text, Elisabeth was able to quickly digitize the office and finally start analysing the countless hours of body camera generated by their cases.      Guests: Elisabeth Pollock, Chief Public Defender, Champaign County, Illinois Devshi Mehrotra, Co-Founder, Justice Text   Resources:   Justice Text https://justicetext.com/ Chicago Appleseed Fair Trial https://www.chicagoappleseed.org/ Elisabeth Contact https://www.linkedin.com/in/elisabeth-pollock-38377110/   Contact Hunter Parnell:                                             Publicdefenseless@gmail.com  Instagram @PublicDefenselessPodcast Twitter                                                                 @PDefenselessPod www.publicdefenseless.com  Subscribe to the Patron www.patreon.com/PublicDefenselessPodcast  Donate on PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=5KW7WMJWEXTAJ Donate on Stripe https://donate.stripe.com/7sI01tb2v3dwaM8cMN

Is the Rose Bowl the greatest football stadium in America? When will the Ohio State Buckeyes and other Big Ten Stadiums move back to grass as opposed to turf? What do we make of the newer Big Ten Stadiums like Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis or SHI Stadium in Piscataway? Should Maryland's stadium always be referred to as Byrd Stadium? Is Fielding Yost a genius to think that Michigan should be the biggest stadium way back in 1925? Does sailgating make the stadium experience that much better at Husky Stadium? Is the L.A. Continuing on our run of Riot Act shows, this week takes us to the home of the Fighting Illini in Champaign, IL. For this show being on a college campus and therefore not allowing the sale of alcohol, the crowd did an excellent job bringing in the same kind of energy that you'd see from their in-state big city counterpart in Chicago. There are a handful of interesting things from this one. Do The Evolution is opened with for only the 4th time to this point, The Police cover, Driven To Tears, is played for the first time in 404 shows, and the first with a full band, and Ed will break out a ukulele for The Who song Blue Red Grey that Ed admits he stole for Soon Forget. Those two covers are part of this show's major theme which is a total of six covers played on this night. We'll discuss this in full detail and bring to the table how many covers are enough or too much to play in a set. You guys weighed in on that on social media and answered that exact question, so we'll read some of the answers that we got in the episode. Randy will talk a little bit about his upcoming Seattle trip for the last week of the MoPop exhibit and Record Store Day at Easy Street, and Javier's Gear Guru segment will focus on the juxtaposition of tones from Given To Fly and Nothingman played back to back on this night. MICHAEL MOLTHAN - M2 THE ROCK | CHARISMATIC SPEAKER | WE ARE ALL ADDICTSAs a result of being forgiving, grateful, and finally accepting his role in the trauma that he received, Michael Molthan can help others by sharing the supernatural experience he received and is still receiving as a result of true forgiveness.DALLAS, TX – Michael Molthan doesn't shy away from talking about his painful past of drug and alcohol addiction. On his talk show called, M2-The Rock, he shares how he went from building homes to being homeless."When I had the homebuilding company my behaviors were getting worse and worse," Molthan told CBN News. "My consequences were getting worse and worse."Molthan was arrested on a drug charge in 2009. "I had a large amount of cocaine in my truck," he explained. "I was intoxicated, and I was arrested. And I'll never forget that when they took me down to the jail, I had my very first mug shot."Hitting Rock Bottom26 mug shots later, Molthan hit rock bottom. "When I look back, that's how the word powerless – I'm powerless over this deadly disease," he said. Feeling agitated, anxious, and facing three years behind bars, Molthan underwent a spiritual encounter after an inmate asked him to read to him. "I grab this book from a gang-banger, a black panther, and he used it as a pillow," he explained. "Brand new book and it was the Living Recovery Bible, New Living Translation. Now, these are black words on white paper at the time. They're not meaning anything to me. Next thing I know, four days have passed by and I started thinking about this and I go, four days just went by and I wasn't anxious. I wasn't in fear. I was calm, and I was at peace."Life-Changing MomentLater that night, he experienced another life-changing moment. "I couldn't breathe," he recounted. "All of a sudden I felt all this trash and hatred and anger and resentment and everything just coming out of my body like flies. All this stuff was just coming out. And I just took this breath and I just go something magical happened and I was full of love, and looking around I loved everybody." "I started preaching and I didn't realize what I was doing," he said. "And I did it at the end of every dinner."Paperwork Error Leads to Early ReleaseIn 2017, a paperwork error led to Molthan's accidental release. So, with no money or food, he walked 300 miles to ask judge Jennifer Bennett to send him back to jail. "I walk in there to turn myself in and I'm excited," says Molthan. "I'm like, 'I'm going to go back to prison. I'm going to do my time, get this over with and get this behind me.' I mean, complete acceptance. God is running the show, right?"He continued, "I walk in there and Judge Bennett says, 'Mr. Molthan there's obviously someone a lot bigger working in your life than me and I'm not going to get in the way.' And she set me free. And she said, 'I want you to come back tomorrow with the self-correct program. I want you to go pay it forward."'And Molthan is doing just that by sharing his story of freedom and sobriety with those seeking help for addiction.Helping Others Trapped by AddictionMichael Molthan's passion is to help people by “raising the bottom” so that no one has to experience the pain that he endured.Molthan's speaking style is so relatable and he loves sharing his love for God and Jesus Christ.M2 is quoted by saying:“When It Comes To Religion I Am An Atheist BUT When It Comes To The Gospel, The Truth, and The Word of God I Am All In”!To inquire about Michael Molthan's rates and availability, email M2@M2THEROCK.COMwww.M2THEROCK.COMTo learn more visit www.M2TheRock.com. Hey everyone. I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and that you're all having a fun Black Friday, getting your shopping done, and enjoying family & friends! So, if you've been listening to the show from the very beginning, you know that I used to do these more light-hearted daily mini episodes called “The Murder Minute” – I would quickly summarize a case as quickly as I could in one or two minutes. But – I got really busy, and I stopped doing them. But I actually have had a lot of feedback on these little baby episodes and a few of you have said you liked them. SO – my question for you is – did you like them? Do you miss them? Do you want me to bring them back? My thought process on these was that I would eventually do a full episode on each of the stories, but there are several that I haven't covered in full yet. Today's episode is actually a montage of 9 Murder Minute episodes I've done that – so far – haven't been made into full episodes. So – listen to them and do me a favor – follow me on Instagram, facebook, or ticktok at True Crime IRL, all one word, and tell me which one you'd like to hear more about! I really love to get listener feedback and I'd love to hear your thoughts! SO GUYS! What do you think? Which Murder Minute mini should I do a FULL episode on in the future? Remember to shoutout to me on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok at TrueCrimeIRL – and let me know! Don't forget that True Crime Thursday Night at Franklin Street Brewing is coming up December 9th at 6pm – be there! AND I am doing a live show on December 11th with the captain, from true crime garage, and you should definitely come to it – it's in Champaign Illinois and you can find all the details – and buy your tickets – online at captainfathands.com/events. Stay safe this holiday season, everyone. Thank you for listening – I love you all – I'm thankful for you – I'm humbled that my voice is going into your earholes right now – and I'll see ya next week! Until then – lock your doors, people. BUH -BYE! --- --- TrueCrimeIRL is written, produced, and hosted by Kelli Berens-Brink. Ripples of the Jesus Movement with Vern Fein

Everything is Spiritual

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 10, 2021 48:13

Today's episode focuses on the Jesus Movement and how Christianity can get back to the heart of the pure love of God.  Vern Fein has dedicated his life to ridding the modern Christian church of negative influences so that mercy and justice, which we need so much of, can re-surface.  Kelly and Vern discuss literal and figurative interpretations of the Bible and how to orient ourselves within communities, especially amid times of dizzying political strife.  Although it's been more than 50 years since the Jesus Movement of the 1970s, there are ripples of those same inclinations and desires in progressive Christian circles today. Vern has some thoughts on what's happening in the Christian church and where things might be headed in the next 50 years. Meet Vern Vern Fein is an octogenarian who has lived a rich and storied life. He studied American Literature at the graduate level at the University of Illinois in the early 1970s. During that time, he became heavily involved in political activism with the anti-Vietnam War and Civil Rights Movements. And moved from being an atheist to becoming Christian as part of the Jesus Movement. He and his friends were among the many young people who left conventional Christian churches in search of more fulfilling and countercultural spiritual experiences. These years significantly shaped the rest of Vern's life and the way the Urbana community looks. Vern served as the outreach pastor for two area churches, and through his work helped to start or sustain area ministries including the Eastern Illinois Food Bank and vegatarian restaurant The Red Herring.  He's now retired after 45 years as a special ed teacher at Cunningham Children’s Home. Since retiring, he's written a book called Radical Faith: From 60s Counterculture to Jesus about the connection between his faith and politics, both of which are still significant in his life. He also writes poetry, essays, and short stories, and is working on his first poetry book.  Active at New Covenant Fellowship Church in Champaign IL, he's proud to be involved in their study to implement reparations in our community and nationally.  Vern Fein's poetry and prose – https://www.vernfein.com Resources We Mention After Evangelism: The Path to a New Christianity by David Gushee Changing Our Mind: The Landmark Call for Inclusion of LGBTQ Christians by David Gushee What Is the Bible?: How an Ancient Library of Poems, Letters, and Stories Can Transform the Way You Think and Feel About Everything by Rob Bell How the Bible Actually Works: In Which I Explain How an Ancient, Ambiguous, and Diverse Book Leads Us to Wisdom Rather Than Answers–And Why That’s Good News by Peter E

We recently had the honor of being invited to sit down with Joe Ambrose, the CEO and President of Horizon Hobby, and ask him a bunch of questions that we had and knew that our readers had. When we were finished with the interview, we left with some great answers to our questions as well as learning a little more about the true passion Joe has for the RC industry. For the regular listeners of the podcast, this episode features Big Squid RC's Brian Smolik and Tim Mohr doing the question asking, while Tim Gluth did the intro and Editing. This all happened while we were down in Champaign IL during the 2018 Horizon RC Fest. We know not everyone wants to listen to a podcast, we were hoping to have the transcript for this up at the same time, but it's taking a little longer to make that happen. As soon as we have that done, we will let everyone know. We can't thank Joe and Horizon Hobby enough for the amazing opportunity to sit down and chat, and hopefully answer some questions people had about what's been going on.
