Few beauty executives currently compete in a category they created, but that's the case for Dr. Julie Chung and Kent Yu, the married co-founders behind T3 hair tools (19:00).  The duo created the luxury hair tool category back in 2004 when they launched T3 with the first lightweight, sleek and quiet blowdryer that delivered smoother, faster results. T3's Featherweight model was the first luxury dryer on the market and the most expensive at the time, priced at $200. Dr. Chung and Yu quickly found a consumer, and before long, T3 was the first hair tool sold in stores like Sephora.  Fast forward 21 years, and they still own and operate 100% of their Los Angeles-based business. The success of T3 created a runway for a category now filled with brands like Dyson and Shark Beauty.  So what is it like to compete in a category you created? Host Lexy Lebsack sat down with Dr. Chung and Yu to learn about their journey to becoming beauty founders, including making time for Dr. Chung's first career as an eye doctor. They also discuss how they're navigating their biggest challenges, balancing retail and DTC, maintaining NPD standards in a faster-is-better world, and competing within the category.  But first, Lebsack is joined by co-host Emily Jensen to break down the news of the week. This includes the controversial launch of Rini, a line of skin-care products made for kids aged 2-12 and sold DTC. The line was launched earlier this month by actress Shay Mitchell, boyfriend Matte Babel and Esther Song, and received immediate backlash.  Lebsack and Jensen also discuss the launch of Dua by AB, a diffusion line from skin-care founder Augustinus Bader and fronted by singer Dua Lipa. Unfortunately, diffusion lines — defined as secondary, lower-priced product lines from a higher-end brand — rarely find success in the beauty industry. Finally, the duo discusses L'Oréal Group's new investment in Chinese mass clean beauty brand Lan and Estée Lauder Companies' investment in Mexican niche fragrance brand Xinú.

Ada seorang Pastor Paroki bercerita bahwa dalam suatu kesempatan diaterlibat salah paham dengan para pelayan pastoran dan beberapa keluarga diParoki yang ia layani. Salah paham itu berkembang menjadi sebuah pertengakaranyang tidak biasa terkontrol sehingga sebagian besar umat terbakar emosinya danmereka marah-marah. Namun Pastor Paroki tidak terlihat ikut emosi dan marah. Iatetap tenang dan dapat menguasai dirinya. Sedapat mungkin ia menjagakata-katanya yang tetap lembut dan tidak menyinggung perasaan mereka. Ia harustetap memperlakukan mereka sebagai umatnya yang perlu didengarkan, dimengertidan disayangi.     Kalau Pastor Paroki ikut terbakar emosi, marah danbertindak keras kepada umatnya, maka ia tentu saja menjadi skandal bagi merekadan semua umat di parokinya. Kata "skandal" dalam bahasa Yunani ialahscandalon. Artinya ialah perangkap atau batu sandungan yang menyebabkan oranglain terperangkap dan jatuh. Kitab suci dengan tegas memperingatkan kitatentang skandal atau tipu daya yang menjauhkan umat dari Tuhannya danmenjatuhkan mereka ke dalam dosa. Mazmur 141,9 berkata: Bebaskan aku dariperangkap yang telah mereka taruh untuk memerangkap aku, dan dari tipu dayaorang jahat. Mirip dengan ini, Surat Yohanes yang pertama berkata: Barang siapamengasihi saudara atau saudarinya hidup di dalam terang, pada orang tersebuttak ada batu sandungan. Tantangan besar kita pengikut Kristus ialah: janganmenjadi skandal. Yesus berkata dalam Injil bahwa kita tidak boleh menyebabkansalah seorang dari kaum lemah di antara kita jatuh ke dalam dosa. Mereka yangtergolong lemah ialah orang sederhana, sakit, anak-anak dan orang muda, miskin,tidak punya pengaruh atau yang tak diperhitungkan. Hidup mereka sudah susahbaik fisik, mental dan rohani, maka tak boleh dibuat tambah susah. Pihak yangmembuat mereka susah dan berbuat skandal ialah yang punya kuasa, pintar,pandai, punya jabatan atau kedudukan, berpunya dan punya pengaruh. Jika Andamerasa menjadi bagian dari kategori ini, usahakan untuk hindari skandal itu. Satu usulan baik di sini ialah: kiranya kita tidak menjaditeladan yang buruk atau jahat, yang membawa orang lain jatuh dalam dosa. Imamatau biarawan buat skandal karena misalnya omong kotor di hadapan umat. Orangtua menjadi skandal karena berkelahi dan dilihat sendiri anak-anaknya. Gurubergaya malas di tengah murid-muridnya. Kakak mencuri sambil dilihat langsungadik-adiknya. Dan, masih banyak lagi contoh yang sering dilakukan dengansengaja. Marilah kita belajar menghindari tindakan-tindakan skandaldengan memberikan teladan yang baik dan benar. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa maha kuasa,semoga kami membuka diri secara tulus akan Roh-Mu, supaya kami dibaharui selaludan seterusnya kami ikut membaharui dunia ini dari segala bentuk skandal. Kegiatan kitadalam Gereja pada hari ini ialah berdoa bagi para arwah itu. Para imam dimintauntuk merayakan tiga kali Ekaristi. Umat dapat menghadirinya sekaligusmenyampaikan intensi-intensi doa bagi arwah anggota keluarga mereka. Pentingnya untuk memahami peringatan dan tugas doa ini,kita perlu berangkat dari keyakinan iman yang hakiki. Di dalam rumusan doa “AkuPercaya”, kita percaya akan kebangkitan badan dan kehidupan kekal. Para arwahkeluarga dan sesama kita, dibantu dengan doa-doa seluruh Gereja supaya merekadianugerahi kebangkitan dan akhirnya menikmati kehidupan abadi di dalam surga.  Menyebut mereka “akhirnya menikmati hidup abadi di dalamsurga” ini memiliki makna yang penting. Ini berarti ada sebuah proses yangdilalui oleh para arwah sebelum masuk surga. Proses ini kita sebut dengan apipenyucian. Ajaran yang sangat khas dalam Gereja Katolik ini ingin menegaskanbahwa penyucian bagi para arwah merupakan proses pemurnian. Mereka bagaidibakar supaya menjadi murni. Dosa-dosa dan akibatnya yang masih melekat dalamdiri para arwah ini dibersihkan. Mereka tentu menderita karena pemurnian ini.  Tetapi mereka sendiri tidak bisa membantu dirinya sendiri.Mereka sebagai arwah tidak memiliki segala kemungkinan untuk berkumpul danberdoa. Oleh karena itu mereka sangat membutuhkan dukungan doa-doa kita yangmasih berada di dunia. Kitab kedua Makabe dalam bacaan pertama menetapkan duabentuk bantuan kepada para arwah ini, yaitu doa dan kurban. Doa-doa kitamencakup yang paling sederhana seperti doa pribadi yang spontan sampai denganibadat Ekaristi. Kurban itu bisa dalam bentuk barang, uang dan perbuatan yangdipersembahkan ke Gereja. Ajaran api penyucian tentang doa-doa dan kurban dari kita,bertujuan untuk kebangkitan dan kehidupan abadi para arwah, dan ini adalahbagian sumbangan dari Gereja. Bagiannya Tuhan adalah peristiwa Yesus bangkitdan menyediakan tempat bagi setiap pengikut-Nya. Ia berkehendak kalau tak adasatu pun dari pengikut-Nya hilang. Penetapan ini sudah final, maka mereka yangsudah meninggal dunia di dalam Kristus itu statusnya sudah menjelang surga.Untuk dapat membawanya tiba di sana diperlukan api penyucian itu.  Jadi hari ini kita melakukan tugas atau tanggung jawabkita supaya terwujudlah tujuannya, yaitu para arwah dimurnikan demi masuknyamereka ke dalam surga. Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Bapa maha rahim, kamiberdoa bagi para arwah saudara dan saudari kami: berikanlah istirahat kekalkepada mereka, ya Tuhan, sinarilah mereka dengan cahaya abadi, dan semogamereka beristirahat dalam damai. Jawaban dasar untuk pertanyaan ini dapat kita temukan didalam bacaan kedua pada hari ini, dari Surat Santo Paulus kepada jemaat diKolose, bahwa Yesus sebagai sulung dari segala yang diciptakan, adalah kepalabagi kita semua sebagai jemaat-Nya. Hubungan kepala dengan tubuh begitu menyatudan kedekatan itu kita maknai sebagai yang tak terpisahkan. Dari dasar pemahaman ini baru kita bisa memberikan kerangka pemahamanselanjutnya tentang kedekatan diri kita dengan pihak lain di luar diri kitasendiri. Aspek kedekatan berasal dari Tuhan Allah. Jika paham agama masa laluatau agama tertentu saat ini memandang Tuhan sebagai pihak yang sangat jauh,kita sebagai pengikut Kristus tidak demikian. Allah berinkarnasi di dalam hidupdan diri kita. Yesus Kristus mengajarkan supaya kita menyapa Tuhan Allahsebagai “BAPA” yang murah hati dan penuh kasih sayang. Bahkan personifikasi Allah sebagai “Bapa” diterjemahkan dengan sangat baikoleh Evan, seorang bocah kelas 3 SD. Ia memilih untuk dekat dan bersama kita. Untuk mengenal dan menyadari kehadiran Tuhan tidak perlu menguras tenaga,pikiran, dan segala usaha untuk keluar dari diri kita dan mencari-Nya. KitabUlangan dalam bacaan pertama mengatakan bahwa Firman Tuhan ada di dalam dirikita: tersimpan di dalam hati, terkonsepkan di dalam pikiran, tertata di dalammulut, dan terpasang untuk siap dipakai dan dilaksanakan pada kaki dan tangankita. Singkatnya, Tuhan sendiri menjiwai dan memakai diri kita untuk hidup danbekerja di dalam dunia ini. Yesus Kristus memperjelas kedekatan ini denganmengajarkan bahwa Tuhan sendiri juga berada di dalam sesama kita. Jadi yang juga sangat dekat dengan kita adalah sesama kita. Sebelum sayahadir di dunia ini, sudah ada sesama yang lebih dahulu hadir, seperti orang tuadan saudara-saudari. Ketika saya memasuki sebuah tempat atau wilayah, sudah adasesama yang lebih dahulu berada di sana. Mereka hadir dengan segala situasiyang menyertainya. Termasuk di dalam ini ialah mereka yang menderita, sakit danberdosa. Mereka sudah berada di sana, mendahului kedatangan saya, dan menjadikewajiban saya untuk menjadi bagian dalam hidup mereka. Lebih baik lagi adalahmemberikan bantuan atau perhatian bagi yang sangat membutuhkan. Anda tidakpernah berada sendirian seperti sebuah pulau di tengah samudera. Marilahkita berdoa. Di dalam kitabsuci ada banyak angka yang dipakai untuk menunjukkan makna tertentu tentangrencana dan pekerjaan Tuhan. Salah satunya ialah angka 70. Dalam bacaan sucipada hari minggu ini, dikatakan bahwa Yesus Kristus mengangkat dan mengutus 70muridnya. Tugas mereka ialah untuk menjadi pelayan-pelayan Sabda Tuhan. Angka 70 juga dipakai oleh Musa ketika ia memilih 70 orang penatua untukmembantunya dalam memimpin dan mengurusi umat Israel selama pengembaraan dipadang gurun. Lembaga Sanedrin, kepemimpinan bangsa Israel, merupakan suatukomposisi kepemimpinan yang berjumlah 70 orang anggota. Di dalam zaman Yesus,jumlah 70 ini merupakan simbol yang menyatakan bahwa di dalam dunia ini ada 70bangsa. Oleh karena itu Yesus mengutus ke-70 murid itu ke setiap bangsa sebagairasul-rasul kabar gembira Tuhan kepada mereka. Tugas-tugas yang diberikan dalam perutusan itu memang diutamakan kepadake-70 murid itu. Tetapi kita perlu jujur bahwa isi perutusan itu yang berupaperintah-perintah-Nya, juga berlaku bagi kita. Setiap akhir peryaan Ekaristidan ibadat-ibadat bersama, perutusan itu diberikan kepada kita. Isi perutusanitu berupa petunjuk-petunjuk bagaimana kita dapat menjalankan tugas-tugassebagai utusan. Seorang utusan Yesus harus menjadi pribadi yang menggunakankecerdikan dan kepandaian. Elemen ini mengharuskan bahwa setiap utusan harusmemiliki pengetahuan dasar tentang Tuhan Yesus Kristus dan ajaran-ajaran Gerejayang sudah menjadi tradisi suci kita. Seorang utusan harus melengkapi dirinya dengan kepenuhan kasih, sebuahbentuk persembahan diri tanpa pamrih, sehingga di dalam setiap bentukpengorbanan diri, ia sungguh menghadirkan Yesus Kristus sendiri. Utusantersebut dikehendaki oleh Tuhan sebagai pembawa damai, sebab itu adalah jalanuntuk mencapai suatu kehidupan bersama di mana ada kehidupan yang adil,harmonis dan bersolider. Seorang utusan diharapkan tidak bergantung hidupnyapada sarana dan barang duniawi semata, misalnya uang, pakaian dan makanan.Semua itu, menurut Tuhan Yesus, sudah tersedia di tempat-tempat dan orang-orangyang kepadanya ia menjalin suatu kehidupan bersama. Oleh karena itu utusantersebut perlu mengutamakan suatu gaya hidup yang sederhana, artinya bahwa iabergantung sepenuhnya kepada penyelenggaraan ilahi. Pada intinya, seorang utusan bekerja bukan untuk mencari keuntungan, tetapiuntuk menyelamatkan jiwa-jiwa dan demi kemuliaan Allah. Namun Yesus menekankanbahwa jika orang-orang tidak menerima semua pewartaan, pelayanan dan pekerjaanpara utusan itu, mereka sebenarnya sedang menciptakan hukuman bagi diri merekadan dunia kehidupannya sendiri.Marilahkita berdoa. This is a very important discussion regarding our backstory as Kali worshippers in the West. In answering this question, I'd like to trace the current upsurgence of Kali worship in the world all the way back to a moment on 31st May 1855.
