Interview was done April 18, 2022 I love meeting new people willing to let me in and share their “lemon to lemonade” experience! This story is about Charlene who experienced life with an alcoholic father, then she was molested, depressed, suicidal and felt she had no self worth. She was deep in pain, grief and dysfunction. She learned to get responsible for making choices. Now Charlene speaks out to let others know that you are not alone, there is hope, and to hold on! What message do you get from this interview? https://www.instagram.com/charlene_anne_madden https://www.facebook.com/charleneannemadden https://www.facebook.com/igniteyourlifebc https://twitter.com/MaddenAuthor https://ca.linkedin.com/in/charlene-madden-speaker-and-author ABOUT the LemonAid Stand: Heidi started hosting the LemonAid Stand live radio talk show, over 20 years ago, in 1999! It all came about when Heidi was dealing with thoughts of suicide, inadequacy, and dealing with infertility. She realized as she reached out to others and heard their stories, she would be uplifted and inspired no matter what she was going through. So this podcast has old "Original" shows from that time period. It also has "New" shows that are currently being recorded with new guests. And it has "Update" shows where Heidi reached out to original radio show guests to find out how the past 20 years have been! Theme song written and recorded by Heidi's baby brother Shane! Charlene Madden has lived through things none of us should have to. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her grandfather, and then an abusive marriage that lasted a decade, she had a plan to end her own life when she, by magical chance, attended a workshop. Three speakers, one after the other, each of them telling a different part of her story. Charlene realized that if others could find their way to loving themselves, why not her. That moment was a catalyst that started her on the path she is on today – as a motivational speaker and coach, she aims to help every person realize that they can survive their worst days with the right tools and community support.  KEY TAKEAWAYS There are many resources, in person or online, that if you need help, you can find a lot of options of community support. Reach out and get help from someone who, who you feel you can connect with and who you feel understands. Once you can love yourself enough, you'll set boundaries, and the boundaries are not just for other people, you're going to set boundaries for yourself as well on what you're willing to allow yourself to do in your life. Protect your peace at all costs.  Figure out how to fill your own well and you'll have a source of energy that is constantly replenishing itself.  BEST MOMENTS   “I think the first story I remember writing, I must have been really young, probably grade two or three –  it was a story about a baby and a mama horse, and the baby horse lost her mom. The story was called, “Do You Know Where My Mom Is?” Right. And, looking back on it now, I'm thinking, ‘wow, this was a child who was really projecting the pain that she'd already experienced as a child into a story.'” “Mental health is like diabetes, right? It's something that you're going to live with for the rest of your life; it's not something that you know, you just all of a sudden, one day go, ‘Hey, I'm better.' You know, because I am better. I don't suffer as badly as I used to. That's why doing the work, and learning to listen to my body –  to slow down and take care of myself, which I didn't for so many years [is so important]. It's definitely not something that ever leaves you, you just learn how to deal with it in healthier ways. Generally, my life is 100% different than it was just six years ago. And, and that's why I'm so passionate about sharing what helped me get there with other people.” “Maybe I'm supposed to be here for a reason. Maybe I'm supposed to hear these messages, because maybe my purpose is to take all the crap that I have experienced, all the pain, all the trauma, and share it because other people have experienced it. And they need to know that there's hope.” “For me, the phoenix is so symbolic of the experiences that happen for people who have experienced trauma because I think you have to sometimes burn down to the ash.”  ABOUT THE GUEST   Charlene is a mother of three amazing children, a wife, daughter, Reiki practitioner, women's empowerment coach and proud Toronto Maple Leafs fan. After almost 30 years in the food and beverage industry, Charlene made a shift and now works in a mining office, which allows her more time to follow her passion of creating platforms of healing for people who want to transform their trauma and free themselves.   CONTACT METHOD  Charlene on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CharleneAnneMadden/ On Instagram https://www.instagram.com/charlene_anne_madden/ Charlene's website https://www.charlenemadden-speaker.com/ ABOUT THE HOST  The ‘Mighty Pete Lonton' from the ‘Mighty 247' company is your main host of ‘Fire in The Belly'.  Pete is an entrepreneur, mentor, coach, property Investor, and father of three beautiful girls. She is a speaker, empowerment coach, and author. She is a passionate promoter of life purpose, mental health survival and mindset mastery. She also facilitates and hosts the Ignite Your Life BC Workshops. Charlene has suffered from a dysfunctional family since childhood. Her father was a violent alcoholic and as a result, her mother left them, leaving Charlene and her sister behind. Eventually, they were taken in by her maternal grandparents. Her grandmother inspired her to be independent and educated. Unfortunately, they were both secretly sexually abused by their grandfather and when her sister suffered a nervous breakdown in school because of it, her grandfather was arrested and was divorced by their grandmother.  Charlene never received any proper counseling after what happened and when she was in high school, she was having depression and was cutting herself. She eventually learned how to cope with it through writing. However, her writing style was noticed by her teacher, and she had to go through a psychological evaluation where she was diagnosed with Bipolar Manic Depressive Disorder.  When she became an adult and had children, she unfortunately also turned to alcohol and was having suicidal thoughts. Eventually, she left her family because she thought she was unfit to be a mother. She, later on, had a relationship with another person who was having mental health problems and got physically abused by him. Eventually, she couldn't take it anymore and tried to commit suicide. While doing it, she had an epiphany and was, fortunately, able to get herself to a hospital. Unfortunately, after that, she was still suicidal and planned to shoot herself before getting herself into a workshop where speeches from people who went through a lot inspired her to do things for others too and learn to appreciate and love herself more. Episode 204 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is for those people who have been suffering or suffered through family problems, sexual abuse, alcoholism, depression, and suicidal thoughts. This episode discusses how one can deal with past traumas such as having an alcoholic parent and sexual abuse in a very wholesome way: by helping others who are going or went through horrible experiences in their lives. “The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people “Grow Through What They Go Through” as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose.  https://www.charlenemadden-speaker.com/ (https://www.charlenemadden-speaker.com/) https://www.ascensionwellnessstudio.com/  (https://www.ascensionwellnessstudio.com/ ) Facebook – Charlene Anne Madden: https://www.facebook.com/CharleneAnneMadden (https://www.facebook.com/CharleneAnneMadden) Facebook – Ignite Your Life: https://www.facebook.com/IgniteYourLifeBC/ (https://www.facebook.com/IgniteYourLifeBC/) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/charlene-madden-speaker-and-author-bba41757/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/charlene-madden-speaker-and-author-bba41757/)

Sometimes a person's life story is so compelling that it needs to be heard, so that others may learn from that experience. That's how I felt when I heard Charlene Madden's harrowing tale of a life filled with abuse, violence and terror. That she was able to rise from these challenges to become a savior for others makes it even more impactful. Charlene shares her story in this episode of Dream Power Radio. She tells us:•The abuse she suffered in her home•How her suffering followed her wherever she moved•The moment that made her believe she had a choice•How she recovered from her esteem issues•What she does now to help others in similar situationsEven if you've never been on the wrong end of abuse, you'll want to listen to this redemptive episode of Dream Power Radio. Charlene Madden has admittedly spent most of her life living in a state of darkness. After experiencing over 9 years of sexualized trauma at the hands of her grandfather, a decade of domestic violence, and 3+ decades of mental illness and suicidal ideology, she was just 2 days away from taking her life when she attended a women's workshop where everything changed. She was able to take off her blinders, begin the healing process, and find her Purpose by turning her Mess into a Message of Hope, Evolution, and Transformation that she now shares with people all over the world. Charlene is a Mother of 3 amazing children, a wife, daughter, Reiki Practitioner, Women's Empowerment Coach and proud Toronto Maples Leafs fan. After almost 30 years in the Food & Beverage Industry, Charlene made a shift and works now in an Mining Office, which allows her more time to follow her passion of creating platforms of healing for other women and men who may have shared similar experiences or who are ready to make a shift in their own lives. ON UNITY CONSCIOUSNESS 'I think I realized how interconnected we all are, and that was a big healing point for me because I had lived in a state of feeling isolated and alone. I was so trapped in my own mind and the trauma that I had experienced. I think through hearing stories, I was able to connect and understand that we are all connected. So many people have unfortunately experienced the same traumas that I have. But understanding that we're connected allows healing, and so we all play a part in everyone else's healing.' ~ Charlene Madden ON WEALTH 'I don't look at wealth as a dollar value. To me, wealth is more of a feeling of fulfillment in my life. You know, if I'm wealthy, I have strong healthy relationships with other people, I have a strong healthy relationship with myself, and I have bodily health and well being. I think if you have all of that, the dollars follow.' ~ Charlene Madden CHARLENE'S DREAM FOR THE WORLD 'I dream of a world of peace, healing, and connection. So many people in life have to face trauma, abuse, and fear. These moments in time seem inexplicable and we are often incapable of explaining why these situations occur and why they occur to specific people. When faced with these unfortunate events, we can either suppress them which often causes further emotional damage, or face them along with the fears they cause us head on. That is precisely what today's special guest, Charlene Madden, is doing in her own life and for other women around the world. Charlene knows what it is to sit in the darkness of hopelessness, and she knows that even in the darkness you can rise up out of the ashes and pursue a life of Passion and Purpose. Charlene Madden has admittedly spent most of her life living in a state of darkness.  After experiencing over 9 years of sexualized trauma at the hands of her grandfather, a decade of domestic violence, and 3+ decades of mental illness and suicidal ideology, she was just 2 days away from taking her life when she attended a workshop where everything changed.  She was able to begin the healing process by rewriting her thought patterns and found her Purpose by turning her Mess into a Message of Hope, Evolution, and Transformation that she now shares with people all over the world.   Charlene Madden is an author, speaker, Reiki Practitioner and creator of the Ignite Your Life Women's Empowerment Workshop.  Her most important roles though are loving wife, &  proud mom of 3 amazing children, (as well as being a fur-baby mom to 3 dogs, a cat and 5 pygmy goats).  Charlene is a passionate advocate to ending the stigma for those who suffer from Mental Illness and have experienced Childhood Sexualized Trauma which she has experienced in her own life, and is working on creating a facility that will bring together rescued animals and trauma victims. 3 top tips for my audience: 1. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.  Understanding what we can avoid in life and what we can't 2. Sometimes you have to sit in the dark, but you don't have to stay there 3. You, and you alone are Responsible for where you are today.  Self-responsibility is the first step to recovery and creating the life you desire. Hello Beautiful Souls! and welcome to Episode 15.This episode is thought provoking, inspirational, informative, and creates awareness as it wakes some of us from a place of ignorance to be more aware of things happening around us.This would enable us to be more protective and vigilant around our children's welfare and not take it for granted, as we will hear from our guest on this show today.I have the pleasure of interviewing Charlene Madden from Canada. She is poet, speaker and an empowerment coach  and she helps women get liberation from their pain.Charlene had a difficult childhood and adulthood what I would call a " double abuse survivor". She was sexually abused as a child for 9 years and in her adult life she experienced both emotional and physical abuse in the hands of her partner. Transitioning  from  childhood to adulthood was very dysfunctional and difficult for Charlene as she suffered several conditions ranging from  mental illness, self harm to suicidal ideations. These and many more you would find out from this episode and how she finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel after many years of pain and sufferings, that drugs could not take away but only numb it for a short period of time.Happy listening. And if you have been affected by any of the issues on this podcast episode kindly contact me : Instagram: @scarredbutnotdamaged  oremail me : scarrednotdamaged@gmail.comConnect with Charlene @https://instagram.com/charlene_anne_madden?utm_medium=copy_linkScarred But Not Damaged Podcast can be found on major podcast platforms lick Apple podcast, Spotify, Amazon music , Podcast Addict, Podchaser, Casts, Deezer, Listen Notes etc
