Guest: Chris Goode, Climavision FounderIntroduction: You know the saying: if you put good in, you get good out! In the meteorology world, if you put good data in, you'll get a good forecast out. But what about the areas that don't have good data to put into the model, more specifically good radar data? Some areas just aren't adequately covered and lie in what's called a radar gap or a doppler dead zone. This makes researching and forecasting severe weather in these areas much more difficult. One way to alleviate this issue is to install more hi-res radars which is what a company called Climavision is doing. Joining us today is Chris Goode, the Founder & CEO, to talk about why it's important to install these radars and what their company hopes to do with the information it collects.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Chris Goode leaned on 30 years of work experience in weather to start his company, Climavision, which raised $100 million out of the gate to improve weather forecast speed and accuracy.
Abuse is not love. Yet every year thousands of people end a relationship because the initial affection has been replaced by some form of abuse. For some it takes a few weeks to realise it's time to go. For others it takes years. Domestic abuse is a vile aspect of our society and we can't even scratch the surface of such a vaste topic. It affects all segments of society, ages and abilities. We could talk about it for years. However, we will attempt to give concise guidelines of what is not a healthy relationship, and why our safety matters more than stability or other aspects that are keeping us stuck. Our guest Chris Goode will share with us his thoughts about toxic, narcisistic, abusive people and why we need to take steps to keep ourselves safe. Be careful not to label every partner with a diagnosis that is best left to professionals. Whatever the situation, disorder or condition is keeping you in fear and walking on eggshells, you need to prioritise your own safety. #domestic abuse. #narcissistic #toxicrelationship #endatoxicrelationship #loveisnotabuse
When we experience a break up, it's natural to feel shocked, overwhelmed, sad, depressed and negative. We might feel that the world is crashing down and everything is bleak, including our future. What we thought would be a happy life with this person is gone and gosh, it hurts! Is it possible to find healing and move on, and rebuild a new life? Yes. In this interview with Chris Goode, a break up recovery expert and hypnotherapist from California, we will discuss the aspects to consider so we can process the pain, grief, and then start lifting our head and heart - rebuilding our life one step at a time. The full episode is available on iTunes, Amazon music etc. However, due to a technical glitch with Zoom, my audio/video were distorted and slow, so I had to record again my part and superimpose it. Even when we know the facts of climate change, we don't seem to act as if we know – that's the observation from the sociologist Kari Norgaard which starts this week's essay in the Notes From Underground series. The theatre maker Chris Goode suggests that the difficulty might be that we lack 'a living-space in which to fully know what we know'. And the similarity between these two thoughts sets us on a journey across the threshold from knowledge to knowing. It's a journey that takes in the history of written language, the persistence of indigenous ways of knowing in the face of systematic cultural destruction, and the way that modern science tangles with all of this.In Notes From Underground, Dougald Hine (co-founder of the Dark Mountain Project) invites listeners into the darkness of knowing a thing like climate change and the ways this knowledge changes us. The first six episodes of the series followed different threads into the labyrinth, starting from the new wave of awareness and activism around the climate crisis that emerged over the past eighteen months. Now, in the second part of the series, we're headed deeper into the strangeness of 'knowing what we know'.Notes From Underground is produced in collaboration with Bella Caledonia. In this episode, I sit down with the owner of my “happy place,” Ruby Jean’s Juicery. Chris Goode was a freshman in high school on the football team when his grandmother Ruby Jean passed away from complications related to Type II diabetes, an illness he attributes largely to her growing up on a diet focused on ‘soul food’. The experience of watching his grandmother, great grandmother, and other members of his family suffer from preventable disease was the spark for a passionate run toward health food later in life. For years, Chris was a Traveling Catastrophe Adjuster—a fancy term for someone who travels to disaster sites to assess damages for insurance claims, traveling constantly for work and seeking juicing to stay healthy on the road. One day, he woke up in a hotel room and couldn’t even remember what city he was in. He decided he was going to get out of the rat race somehow and started saving up every penny he could. Reflecting on his love of juicing and his grandma, it hit him what he would do: "It was like God reached through the clouds and was like: 'Dude, open a juice bar and dedicate it to your grandma!'" Now Goode dedicates his passion for bringing healthy, nutritious, whole foods to communities in the Midwest with Ruby Jean’s Juicery. His vision for providing healthy nutrition continues to expand, with 6 new locations, including a juice truck, on his plate right now. Closing symposium in which critic Michael Billington, playwright Rachel De-lahay, theatremaker Chris Goode academic and Dr Liz Tomlin discuss with David Edgar the place of the playwright in contemporary theatre. This event was filmed on 7th February 2015. The challenge to traditional roles and hierarchies in the theatre has involved academics and critics as well as practitioners. What effect is the controversy having on the content, form and working methods of contemporary theatre? What would the theatre look like without playwrights? What can the industry learn from new working methods, and how might performance companies benefit from collaborating with writers?

Episode 5 of GBA Live: 5 conversations recorded as part of my Invisible Picture Palace (http://invisiblepicturepalace.com/) residency for In the Dark Radio (http://www.inthedarkradio.org/) that took place in November 2012. These episodes are going to come out daily in the week leading up to the GBA 100 two-part special. Each one has a different audience of people who came out to a greenhouse in Wapping to be a part of the conversation. Today we get we get even better acquainted with return guests Chris Goode and Karl James. Both have had individual conversations, this is the first time they have appeared on GBA together. http://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-38-karl-james http://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-83-chris-goode This was a very surprising and interesting conversation which is really hard to sum up in a blurb. It moves through themes of performance, listening, provocation, violence, shame, authority, empathy, difference, therapy, forgiveness and more. All this spills out of the starting point of two projects which Chris and Karl have collaborated on. A piece by Tim Crouch called The Author which seems to have had a powerful effect on audiences but also on Chris who acted in it and Karl who co-directed it. And the more recent Monkey Bars, a piece of theatre where adults perform verbatim dialogue originally spoken by children. This conversation went to places I hadn't expected it too and was a challenging and rewarding experience. In this spur of the moment GBA Extra we get even better acquainted Jen. This summer after dinner Jen was talking about some research she was doing about sleep paralysis which sparked a childhood memory in me. We decided to turn the mic on and share the conversation with the show. We talk about strange sleep states, dreams, memories and writing. We have a false ending and then we come back with some readings and analysis of Jens sleep diary. And the episode is capped with a short story which Jen wrote about "locked in syndrome" which was performed by previous GBA guest Louise at Stand Up Tragedy earlier this year. This story isn't about dreams but it does contain many of the themes of both this episode and of Jen's writing in general. In GBA 83 we get better acquainted Chris Goode. It's a conversation between an audience member and performer as I meet Chris properly for the first time. We talk God, theatre, religion, mental health, BDSM, bereavement, neuroscience, politics and more. We pick apart a piece of theatre Chris made called God/Head which I saw him perform earlier this year. It's a very personal piece of performance based on recent personal experiences. You may also get better acquainted with me as I discuss what areas of my own story intersect with this performance, going into what might be considered my more "weird" psychological experiences and examining my relationship with faith and to mental health.
