"The best way to defeat an enemy is to make them your friend." --Abraham Lincoln Dustin Thompson, head programmer for Olive Branch CrossFit, can't stand losing. As he has continued to make his way up the CrossFit leaderboard as one of the areas most elite athletes, he could not help but notice the competitive scores which were consistently being entered by a gentleman named Gus Vandervoort. Dustin, being an intelligent and rational person, instead of having Gus killed or deciding to make him an enemy, he reached out to Gus and they have since become training partners. Gus is a lifetime gymnast who has owned a gym since the mid eighties. Like many of us, life got in the way of Gus's devotion to fitness and found himself 50lbs overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle. Gus suffered from a self disgnosed case of "H-Disease" which is comprised of hemorroids, high blood pressure, heartburn, hypertension and high cholesterol. He has suffered a heart attack, multiple stints, and numerous surgeries from past injuries, but found CrossFit and has gotten his health back on track. Coach Gus is currently 40th in THE WORLD at the CrossFit Open in the age 55-59 Masters category. We are excited to get to watch Coach Gus as he makes his way towards the CrossFit Games. Take some advice from Gus and Dustin, don't count yourself out, don't believe yourself to be too far gone, and don't tell yourself that you can't....cause you can.
