Today on Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson, I'm addressing the divorcee community and I'm going straight to the Bible. Why does God say He hates divorce? What does Scripture actually teach about marriage, covenant, divorce, and the responsibilities of husbands and wives? And why have divorce rates become so incredibly high, particularly as wives increasingly initiate divorce over reasons that, from a biblical perspective, are trivial, selfish, or completely unbiblical? This is not a message designed to just shame people who have experienced divorce. It is a challenge to the culture that has normalized abandoning marriage whenever things become difficult, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. We need to be willing to distinguish between legitimate biblical grounds for divorce and the endless list of modern excuses we've created to justify walking away from a sacred covenant. And that's not all we're discussing.I'm also talking about Donald Trump's continued failures, the gap between political promises and political reality, and why Americans should be questioning the decisions being made in our name.Plus, we're talking about the Iran War and why I believe this conflict is unnecessary and why Americans should be asking whether another foreign war actually serves the interests of the United States.Marriage. Divorce. Biblical truth. Trump. Iran. War. Political accountability.I'm saying what I believe needs to be said, even when it isn't popular (as usual).--https://www.youversion.com/bible-app
Today’s Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Gospel – Matthew 17:1-9 – Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; His Face shone like the sun and His clothes became white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with Him. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If You wish, I will make three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While He was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is My beloved Son, with Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord O Lord Jesus, have mercy upon us! Bishop Sheen quote of the day
'Marriage is the real rebellion' argues Madeline Grant in the Spectator's cover article this week. The Office for National Statistics predicts that by 2050 only 30 per cent of adults will be married. This amounts to a ‘relationship recession' where singleness is ‘more in vogue now than it has been since the dissolution of the monastries'. With a rising division between the sexes, and many resorting to alternative relationships like polyamory, how can we defend marriage? For this week's Edition, host William Moore is joined by political editor Tim Shipman, assistant editor – and parliamentary sketchwriter – Madeline Grant and the Spectator's diary writer this week, former Chancellor and Conservative MP Kwasi Kwarteng. As well as the cover, they discuss: how Rachel Reeves benefited from the OBR Budget leak, whether through cock up or conspiracy; what they thought of Kemi Badenoch's post-Budget performance; whether it is fair for Cabinet Office minister Nick Thomas-Symonds – in an interview with Tim – to say that ‘the architects of Brexit ran away'; and finally, how inevitable was the idea of ‘progress' when thinking about Britain's Industrial Revolution.Plus: Kwasi explains why he agrees with Tim that the Budget should be confined to the 19th Century. James welcomes John Clark to discuss his latest book on the decline of marriage in the Catholic Church brought to you by TAN books titled "Betrayed Without A Kiss: Defending Marriage After Years of Failed Leadership in the Church." Clark emphasizes the role of laypeople in educating and promoting the importance of marriage, both before and after the wedding ceremony. He emphasizes the need for support and encouragement from fellow parents and the power of prayer. He highlights the importance of living a sacramental life and the beauty of receiving the sacraments together as a couple. Lastly, he encourages listeners to share the beauty of marriage with priests and reminds them of the importance of strong marriages in the Church.TakeawaysThe Catholic Church has seen a significant increase in annulments and a decrease in Catholic marriages, indicating a crisis in the institution of marriage. There is a correlation between the use of contraception and the high divorce rate, as contraception undermines the procreative and unitive aspects of marriage. The decline of marriage is influenced by diabolical forces that seek to break up marriages and undermine the sanctity of the institution.Lay people have a crucial role in defending and upholding the sanctity of marriage by challenging the Church hierarchy and promoting the importance of marriage education and preparation. Offering reflections from his book, "I Loved Jesus in the Night", Fr. Paul Murray provides a compelling account of meetings with the saint of Calcutta. Sharing anecdotes and first-hand experiences, Fr. Murray offers a glimpse into why Mother Teresa could declare, in one of her letters, that if ever she were to "become a saint," she would surely be one of "darkness." This very personal yet powerful presentation aims to come to terms with the dark night experiences endured by Mother Teresa in the light of the Gospel and the mystical teachings of St John of the Cross. And something else as well...revelations of Mother Teresa's sense of humor! Paul Murray, O.P. is an Irish Dominican, a poet, and a professor in Rome at the University of St. Thomas, the Angelicum. He is the author of several books which have been published in Ireland, England, and the United States including The New Wine of Dominican Spirituality: A Drink Called Happiness; T.S. Eliot and Mysticism: The Secret History of "Four Quartets"; and four collections of poetry. He lives in Rome, and is well known as a speaker throughout the United States.
