With seven Grammy Awards under his belt, Forrest Robinson has built quite the musical career for himself. He's toured as a drummer with bands India.Arie, Victor Wooten, Randy Crawford, Joe Sample, TLC, Ray Parker Jr., The Crusaders, Fifth Dimension, and Arrested Development to name a few. He has also performed live on “Saturday Night Live,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” and many more. Forrest is also the drummer in Phil Collen's (Def Leppard lead guitarist) blues-rock-n-soul band Delta Deep. On the night of January 8th, 2025, during the devastating California fires that ravaged tens of thousands of acres, including the entire city of Altadena, Forrest's home he shared with his wife Paige, was razed to the ground. This included his music studio, revered drum set ‘Gretchen,' all his musical instruments, and vital computer equipment. Forrest and Paige evacuated their home the evening before, as directed, wearing only the clothes on their backs carrying their small pup. 'The Shoutout Music Appreciation 101', a weekly radio program on the Stationhead music platform and it's dedicated listening family, the TSO Audio Crew, have unified with the creation of this GoFundme to get the attention of many to help us assist Forrest who has been a dear friend, thoughtful person and masterful musical talent. We love you Forrest. https://gofund.me/6df08dc7https://gofund.me/6df08dc7

Phil Collen and I are sharing this conversation about Def Leppard's new tour and how he's excited about bringing his other band Delta Deep to the east coast. Then from out of nowhere he drops that he's producing the new album from Tesla. I had to take our conversation to the center of that journey.
Great stories about Def Leppard, playing with Richie Blackmore, Gary Moore, Michael Schenker… Getting sober 32 years ago and what the trigger was… drinking $20,000 worth of coffee… putting Delta Deep (one of Phil's side projects) together… his top 3 musical experiences, favorite guitarists he's played with… biggest life lesson he's learned (which has helped keep him very grounded), the toughest thing he's had to do, and much more. It's my distinct pleasure to host one of the nicest guys in rock and roll in Episode 28 of NSTS, Def Leppard guitarist extraordinaire Phil Collen. Phil and I cover a lot of ground in our chat - Hysteria's 30th anniversary, Sting's sublime bass lines, that he was asked to join Iron Maiden in 1981, his blues band Delta Deep, what he learned about being a guitar player from Mutt Lange, and the fact that my high school art class pencil sketch of he and Steve Clark was given an A+. Wish I had saved that thing. Collen's playlist: David Bowie - Moonage Daydream Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen Al Green - Tired of Being Alone The Police - Walking on the Moon Sly and the Family Stone - If You Want Me To Stay Jimi Hendrix - Fire Led Zeppelin - When The Levee Breaks
Phil Collen, guitarist from Def Leppard, talks about the band's new self-titled album, his new book Adrenalized, his blues band Delta Deep and their upcoming Hysteria on the High Seas Cruise.
