//The Wire//2030Z August 6, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: UNREST CONTINUES TO WORSEN IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. RIOTS CONTINUE IN BANGLADESH AS SOCIAL VIOLENCE ESCALATES FOLLOWING COUP.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Preparations continue among western powers to prepare for Iran's counterattack. Several nations have made substantial preparations for the evacuation of their citizens from the region. In Cyprus, local media has highlighted the pre-staging of military aircraft at bases in Germany, which are being prepared to use facilities in Cyprus to evacuate German citizens if necessary. Sweden has also made similar efforts, closing down their embassy in Beirut and shifting their diplomatic mission in Lebanon to Cyprus.Throughout the region combat actions continue. Harassing fires from Hezbollah have remained sporadic but fairly regular, alongside Israeli bombings in kind. Yesterday insurgent forces conducted a rocket attack on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq, which resulted in 7x US service members wounded.AC: Despite the time frame for an Iranian attack being inaccurate (as in, it did not occur Monday evening), western powers are still convinced that an attack will take place imminently. None of the information that they are basing decisions on is in the public arena, so no independent corroboration can take place with any accuracy. Iran could attack five minutes after this report is posted, or it could be weeks from now.United Kingdom: Unrest continues as certain factions take advantage of the chaos to conduct operations. In Bristol, last night pro-Palestine activists again breached the perimeter of an Elbit Systems factory, gaining entry to the facility and destroying equipment within. AC: As a reminder, pro-Palestine (or at least, anti-Israel) groups have targeted Elbit Systems facilities over the past few months due to Elbit being a major Israeli defense contractor.South Asia: The situation in Bangladesh remains extremely kinetic following the overthrowing of the Prime Minister. Somewhat belatedly, the U.S. State Department has raised the travel warning for Bangladesh to Level 4, Do Not Travel. Cultural conflict has escalated significantly, as Hindus and Muslims take advantage of the chaos to attack one another. AC: Right now, it's not clear as to who's actually in charge of the country. So far, the Chief of the Army has been addressing the media as most politicians throughout the nation enter the “stuffing suitcases full of money and getting on a helicopter” phase of governance. Considering the demands of the student-led riots that overthrew the Prime Minister, it's likely that Muhammad Yunus (Bangladeshi banker and political figure) will lead some sort of interim government, though at this time it's not certain what that may look like.-HomeFront-Southeast: Several hundred thousand people are without power throughout the region as the now Tropical Storm Debbie made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane overnight. Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina appear to be bearing the brunt of storm damage, with widespread flooding expected over the next few days.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: With the staggering amount of information warfare that the world has been subjected to for years, it is hard to imagine anyone genuinely believing in anything at all without being pushed or pulled to one narrative or another. As such, when any genuine feelings erupt, they are immediately dismissed as simply coming from someone who has “fallen” for the latest narrative, entrapment operation, or the like. While many will debate who holds the marionette strings regarding the unrest in the western world, it's easy to forget that sometimes, in certain situations, real sentiments and feelings do exist. Sometimes paranoia and excessive caution are extremely valid, but after a while, it obfuscates the reality of the situation o
//The Wire//2030Z July 31, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: ISRAEL STRIKES TEHRAN AND DAMASCUS. USA RAISES TRAVEL WARNING FOR LEBANON. AIRLINES CANCEL FLIGHTS TO ISRAEL. MEAT RECALL EXPANDS IN USA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Overnight, Israel conducted an airstrike in Iran, targeting Ismail Haniyeh (a senior Hamas leader) in Tehran. AC: As recently as May, Haniyeh was responsible for (or heavily involved in) the overall ceasefire negotiation efforts as mediated by a joint Qatari-Egyptian mediation team.In Syria, IRGC General Amir Ali Hajizadeh was reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike in Damascus. This morning, the United States increased the travel advisory for Lebanon to Level 4, Do Not Travel. Delta Airlines, United, and British Airways have announced that they will stop flights to Israel, beginning tomorrow. AC: At this time, it is unclear as to if this is a temporary cessation of flights, or if this is a more prolonged cancelation as the potential for military action in the region remains elevated.South America: Unrest continues in Venezuela, along with substantial information warfare efforts to shape the perception of what is going on, on the ground. Mass arrests have been reported of some groups responsible for the counter-Maduro unrest throughout the country. However, some military commanders have voiced opposition to Maduro, complicating the situation. General unrest remains constant throughout most major cities, with some businesses temporarily remaining closed in the capital of Caracas. However most businesses appear to be operating as usual, albeit with even fewer products than normal. Increased potential for banditry on the remote roads linking various cities has resulted in many long-haul cargo drivers refusing to drive during this period of heightened instability. Similar concerns have been raised by public transportation drivers, with most routes not operating as usual or with drivers charging more than usual for transportation. Throughout Caracas (and other major cities) an increased police and military presence has largely tempered demonstrations in some areas, but exacerbated tensions in others.United Kingdom: Unrest in Southport remined kinetic overnight as locals express anger towards the handling of Monday's stabbing attack that killed three children. Additionally, large pro-immigration counter-protests have sprung up in the wake of the unrest yesterday.-HomeFront-USA: A large recall of potentially contaminated deli meat has spread throughout the country as Boar's Head widens the recall. Previously, roughly 200,000 pounds of Boar's Head products were recalled due to an outbreak of Listeria which has caused hospitalizations and least two deaths in 13 states so far. Yesterday, Boar's Head increased the recall to include an additional 7 million pounds of meat nationwide. AC: This is one of the largest meat recalls in recent history, and highlights the vulnerabilities of food security and contamination potential.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Traditionally, in warfare, if a nation is unable to militarily achieve their goals, they must do so politically and diplomatically. Generally speaking, killing the negotiator is counterproductive towards these ends. Israel could have struck Haniyeh at any time, as the target itself was Haniyeh's private residence in Tehran. However, by coordinating this strike with the Beirut attack this likely was intended to serve several objectives, few of which were of direct military value. In any case, these details and concerns are likely to be overcome by developing events, as the world awaits the next escalation.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Episode Notes Israel had high hopes this year for its tourism sector this year as it sought to surpass 2019 visitor numbers. But Hamas' surprise attack on the country, which has led to at least 1,000 deaths, has completely halted Israel's tourism industry, writes Middle East Reporter Josh Corder and Asia Editor Peden Doma Bhutia. Corder and Bhutia report that major airlines worldwide, including American Airlines and Air India, have stopped routes to Israel. Meanwhile, several governments, such as the U.S., have issued “Do Not Travel” warnings to Gaza and urged their citizens to exercise caution when traveling to Israel. Israeli officials had expressed optimism earlier this year the country could set tourism records in 2023. However, Israel was already struggling to meet its targets before the recent attacks. Furthermore, carriers halting flights from the Americas and Europe, both large source markets, will likely have a major impact on visitor numbers for the rest of the year. Next, Airbnb is ending its Airbnb Plus program, reports Executive Editor Dennis Schaal. Schaal writes Airbnb viewed the program as a way to obtain and promote and push exclusive listings that satisfied roughly 100 design expectations. However, he notes that Airbnb Plus sputtered and never came close to meeting expectations, with several industry experts questioning the usefulness of it for both hosts and guests. In addition, Airbnb hasn't onboarded any new Airbnb Plus listings in some time. The official end date for the program is November 6. Finally, Puerto Rico is launching a new tourism campaign geared towards travelers unable to take certain trips because they couldn't obtain their passport in time, writes Global Tourism Reporter Dawit Habtemariam. Habtemariam reports that the “No Passport, No Problem” campaign will launch next month. It aims to remind Americans they don't need a passport to visit Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. Discover Puerto Rico Chief Marketing Officer Leah Chandler said about a third of Americans are unaware that trips to the island don't require a passport. While the number of Americans traveling abroad is continuing to surge, Habtemariam notes that the average wait time to get a U.S. passport is between 10 and 13 weeks.

Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown were found dead, a US official familiar with the ongoing investigation told CNN. Their bodies will be examined by Mexican authorities prior to their remains being turned over to the US government, the official said. Latavia Washington McGee, a mother of six, and Eric Williams survived the ordeal, according to the official. They were taken to a Texas hospital for treatment and observation. A Mexican government official said Washington McGee was found uninjured. Williams was shot twice in one leg and once in the other, his wife, Michele Williams, told CNN Tuesday. One person has been detained in connection to the incident, the governor said, but officials would not confirm whether the person is related to a criminal organization. The victims were found in a “wooden house” in Matamoros and had been transferred to various places over the days “in order to create confusion and avoid rescue efforts,” Villarreal said. The discovery of the Americans’ whereabouts comes days after the four were abducted at gunpoint in Matamoros in what is believed to be a case of mistaken identity. The tight-knit group of friends traveled from South Carolina to Mexico so Washington McGee could undergo a medical procedure across the border Friday, but they never made it to the appointment, two family members told CNN. The group crossed into Matamoros in the state of Tamaulipas, at about 9:18 a.m. Friday, Villareal said, but they got lost while trying to locate the medical clinic, according to Washington McGee’s close friend, who did not want to be identified. They reached out to the doctor’s office for directions on Friday but were struggling to communicate with the office because they had a poor cellphone signal. After crossing the border, they were fired upon by unidentified gunmen, “placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men,” according to the FBI. Investigators believe the Americans were targeted by a Mexican cartel that likely mistook them for Haitian drug smugglers, the US official said. The US citizens have no concerning criminal history that has been identified by investigators, the official said. An innocent Mexican bystander was also killed in the encounter, US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar said. The woman was hit by a stray bullet almost a block and a half from where the Americans were taken, Tamaulipas Gov. Américo Villarreal said on Tuesday. Their abduction highlights the ongoing violence that has plagued some Mexican cities during the long-running Mexican drug war as well as the growing business of “medical tourism.” Matamoros has a population of more than 500,000 people and is located just across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas. The US State Department has issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel” advisory for US citizens thinking of going to Tamaulipas, citing crime and kidnapping. https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-steven-crowder-moves-his-show-to-rumble-signs-massive-contract?utm_campaign=64487 Steven Crowder moves his show to Rumble, signs new contract Steven Crowder has joined Rumble, making the announcement on Russell Brand's Stay Free. Judge T. Kent Wetherell ruled in response to a lawsuit from the state of Florida, which alleged the administration’s mass release of tens of thousands of migrants via humanitarian parole into Alternatives to Detention — known as "Parole + ATD" — is unlawful. In a scathing opinion Wednesday, Wetherell stated the Biden administration had "effectively turned the Southwest Border into a meaningless line in the sand and little more than a speedbump for aliens flooding into the country." Additionally, Wetherell ruled that the policies implemented by the Biden administration, including catch and release, had contributed to the degradation of the border as a means to keep illegal migrants out. "Today’s ruling affirms what we have known all along, President Biden is responsible for the border crisis and his unlawful immigration policies make this country less safe. A federal judge is NOW ordering Biden to follow the law, and his administration should immediately begin securing the border to protect the American people," Republican Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody said in a statement following the ruling. The administration had been increasingly using parole — which the statute says is supposed to be used on a "case-by-case basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefit" — to release migrants quickly into the interior to reduce overcrowding at the border as it deals with historic migrant numbers at the border. Florida contended that the government is violating statutory mandates that migrants be detained. The administration had argued that there is no "non-detention policy" and that it is using its prosecutorial discretion. "There is nothing inherently inhumane or cruel about detaining aliens pending completion of their immigration proceedings," he said. The judge also sided with the Sunshine State in its argument that it had standing to challenge the policy as more than 100,000 migrants have been released into the state, and it has borne significant costs in providing public services to them. The Biden administration ended family detention of migrants in 2021, although it is reportedly considering reintroducing the practice when Title 42 ends in May. Title 42, which allows for the rapid expulsion of migrants at the southern border due to COVID-19, will end in May with the ending of the COVID-19 public health emergency. The administration, facing more than 1.7 million migrant encounters in FY 2021 and over 2.3 million in FY 2022, had looked for ways to more quickly release migrants into the U.S. interior, as it also ended Trump-era policies like the Migrant Protection Protocols, which kept migrants in Mexico for their immigration hearings. The administration typically released migrants with Notices to Appear that set a court date. However, the process takes much longer than the Parole + ATD, which tells migrants to check in with ICE when they get to their destination. The migrants are also enrolled into some form of ATD surveillance, typically a check-in app on an electronic device, or in some cases an ankle bracelet. The ruling stays the order for seven days to allow for an appeal, but could potentially have massive implications if there is a surge in migrants when Title 42 ends — as administration officials have previously predicted. The administration is also facing a looming lawsuit from GOP states over its humanitarian parole that flies in up to 30,000 migrants from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti and Cuba each month. Those states have said the program breaches the statutory limits on the use of parole. Meanwhile, it could soon face a challenge over its recently announced asylum rule. That rule, which would automatically make migrants ineligible for asylum if they have entered the U.S. illegally and have also failed to claim asylum in a previous country through which they passed, has sparked outrage from immigration activists, some of whom have threatened to take legal action if the rule is finalized. https://dailycaller.com/2023/03/07/matt-hancock-deploy-covid-variant-leaked-messages-uk/ Former UK Health Secretary Asks When To ‘Deploy The New Variant,’ Messages Show Former United Kingdom Health Minister Matt Hancock asked when to “deploy” a new COVID-19 variant in December 2020, leaked personal messages reportedly show. The Whatsapp conversation, leaked to The Telegraph by anti-lockdown journalist Isabel Oakeshott, shows an exchange between Hancock and an aide back in December 2020 in which the ex-Health Secretary discusses plans to deploy the announcement for the new variant, the BBC reported. “We frighten the pants of everyone with the new strain,” Hancock reportedly says, to which the adviser responds, “Yep, that’s what will get proper behaviour change.” “When do we deploy the new variant,” the minister then asks the aide, according to the outlet. Hancock announced the new variant in a parliament session the following day, after the messages were exchanged, according to the BBC. In April of 2022, Hancock announced he was working on a book, titled “Pandemic Diaries,” that would detail his experience as health minster during the COVID-19 outbreak. Oakeshott assisted with the book, which was published in December 2022, according to the BBC. “There is absolutely no public interest case for this huge breach. All the materials for the book have already been made available to the Inquiry, which is the right, and only, place for everything to be considered properly and the right lessons to be learned. As we have seen, releasing them in this way gives a partial, biased account to suit an anti-lockdown agenda,” Hancock said in a statement responding to the leaked messages, the BBC reported. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson faced criticism for breaking lockdown restrictions. Johnson and his wife, as well as current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, all received a fine for attending a birthday party back in June 2020, the BBC reported. With the Tokyo Olympic Games weeks away, Japan faces a double whammy over the escalating epidemic and mounting challenges to hold the sports event especially after the US warned Americans not to travel to the country. Chinese observers believed that Washington's "Level 4: Do Not Travel" advisory, which is the highest cautionary level in the US State Department's hierarchy of warnings, is a bellwether in the international community and more countries could follow suit to issue travel alerts or other restrictions to their citizens to visit Japan.
