Hey everybody, Derek is back and we've got the final issue (sort of!) of this awesome magazine series, and although it was short-lived, it really has an impact. The feature story is/was a bit controversial, and Derek and I had a good time trying to break it down. Plus, Bruce Jones, Don Glut, and Rascally Roy Thomas! And look at that incredible cover by Frank Brunner! So join us once again for for some classic sci-fi stories and conversation! As usual, if you'd like to leave any feedback for the show, you can do so through email at Magazinesandmonsters@gmail.com or to me on Twitter @Billyd_licious or on the show's FB page. You can find Derek on Twitter @DerekKunsken and on his website derekkunsken.com (click here for his Amazon page!). Thanks for listening!

Want to see a video version of this podcast? Please visit YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkvXbC2Chj0 Donald F. Glut has been active in both the entertainment and publishing industries since 1966. Don has had a long and varied career. He has been a professional musician, actor, film director, executive producer, photographer, magazine editor, proofreader and (very briefly, for an advertising agency) copywriter, but is mostly known for his long career as a freelance writer. He has written and directed feature-length motion pictures, documentaries and music videos, authored approximately 80 fiction and non-fiction published books, myriad TV scripts (live action and animation shows, network and syndicated), comic-book scripts, short stories, magazine articles, even music and theatre. He has been involved with numerous popular franchises such as Star Wars, The Monkees, Tarzan, Spider-Man, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Vampirella, Masters of the Universe, The Flintstones, Jonny Quest and many others, and created original comic-book characters for Gold Key, Marvel and DC. Arguably Don is best known for his novelization of the second "Star Wars" movie The Empire Strikes Back (#1 Best Seller). Don currently executive-produces, writes and directs "traditional-style" horror for his company Pecosborn Productions, and writes scripts for The Creeps horror comics magazine. Also, he is a Southern California representative of Las Vegas Talent Agency. Note: Any motion picture titles that may be listed prior to Dinosaur Valley Girls (1997) are of amateur movies, the first of 41 of which Don Glut made when he was nine years old. It's a double dose of the BSV Podcast this week with another brand new episode as we catch up with the backlog of new releases! Not going anywhere this three-day weekend?  Let's visit Spain for this special edition of Creator Talks to meet artist Benito Gallego. Benito studied art at Faculty of Fine Arts in Spain and is a huge fan of legendary Silver Age and Bronze Age artist John Buscema (The Avengers, Silver Surfer, Savage Sword Conan, Tarzan). Having a style which harkens back the powerful style of John Buscema, Benito has illustrated comics and strips scripted by the great Roy Thomas including the World War II super-hero team Anthem and The New Tales of Tarzan. Benito also illustrated the entire run of the Bronze Age flavored super-hero comic Apama, The Undiscovered Animal. This multi-talented artist who also has colored and lettered his own work has made many contribution to horror tales in The Creeps! written by Don Glut, including one of Benito's personal favorites Maciste Against Dracula! The work that Benito is most proud of is The Life of Bob Marley, which he drew, colored and lettered.  We learn from Benito what is the fate of the Anthem series, hints about new projects in the works, and the one project that got away! Don Glut is a prolific writer and director.  In the 1970s Don wrote stories for Warren's Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella, as well as Marvel Comics Captain America, The Invaders and Kull The Destroyer, just to name a few!  Currently Don is working on making another horror motion picture and is currently writing a plethora of horror tales for Warrants black and white horror magazine The Creeps.  Don is "killing it" with his horror stories in The Creeps and is fortunate to be collaborating with some amazingly talented artists who capture the spirit of the old Creepy and Eerie black and white mags. Don's latest film Tales of Frankenstein was recently released in October on Blu-Ray. We talk about the making of this mid-budget horror film to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. Don included some classic horror actors the movie and this four-part horror anthology is not to be missed by fans of Frankenstein.  I sat down with Don in person while visiting Las Vegas to discuss how he first discover Frankenstein and the influence Universal and Hammer horror films had on him as a youth.  We also talk about how he started writing for Warren Publishing, working with Michael Nesmith of The Monkees on his Penny Arkade album, writing for Gold Key and Marvel Comics.  Plus I Kick Back With The Creator and ask Don the show's signature fun questions to learn more about him.  It's a Giant-Sized thriller podcast not to be missed!
