Chapter 1:Summary of Book The Great Gatsby"The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a novel set in the summer of 1922 on Long Island and in New York City. The story is narrated by Nick Carraway, a young bond salesman from Minnesota who rents a house in the West Egg district of Long Island, an area populated by the newly rich who lack social connections and sophistication.Nick's neighbor is Jay Gatsby, a mysterious and wealthy man who throws extravagant parties every weekend, hoping to attract specific guests. As Nick becomes more acquainted with Gatsby, he learns that Gatsby was born poor and that his real name is James Gatz. Gatsby had previously been in love with Daisy Buchanan, Nick's cousin, when he was a young military officer. Post-war, Gatsby dedicated himself to gaining wealth and social standing to win Daisy back, believing that he could recreate the past through sheer force of will and wealth.Through his connection to Nick, Gatsby rekindles his romance with Daisy, although she is now married to Tom Buchanan, a man of established wealth and social standing, but also arrogant and unfaithful. The reunion leads to an affair between Gatsby and Daisy, which climaxes in a confrontation between Tom and Gatsby in a suite at the Plaza Hotel. The situation becomes tragic when Daisy, driving Gatsby's car, accidentally strikes and kills Tom's mistress, Myrtle Wilson, on their way back from the city. Gatsby decides to take the blame, believing his wealth can shelter him. However, Myrtle's husband, George Wilson, misled by Tom to believe that Gatsby was both his wife's lover and killer, shoots Gatsby dead in his pool before taking his own life.In the wake of the tragedy, Nick is disillusioned with the East Coast's morally corrupt and superficial society. He arranges a poorly-attended funeral for Gatsby, breaks off his relationship with Jordan Baker, a professional golfer and mutual friend, and moves back to the Midwest. The novel concludes with Nick reflecting on the unattainable nature of the American Dream, and how people are relentlessly drawn into a past that is forever out of reach, much like Gatsby with his indomitable hopes and dreams.Chapter 2:The Theme of Book The Great GatsbyCertainly! "The Great Gatsby," written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a novel set in the 1920s that explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess. Here is a brief overview focusing on key plot points, character development, and thematic ideas: Key Plot Points1. Nick Carraway's Arrival: The narrator, Nick Carraway, moves to West Egg, Long Island, to learn about the bond business. He rents a small house next to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby, who throws extravagant parties.2. Daisy Buchanan's Reintroduction: Nick is Daisy Buchanan's cousin and through visiting her, he is reintroduced to her and her husband Tom. Daisy lives in the more fashionable area of East Egg. Daisy and Tom's marriage is troubled, marked by Tom's affair with Myrtle Wilson.3. Gatsby's Parties: Nick attends one of Gatsby's lavish parties and learns that Gatsby is in love with Daisy. They had a romantic relationship before he went to war and she married Tom. Gatsby's primary motive in amassing his wealth and throwing parties was to win Daisy back.4. Gatsby and Daisy's Reunion: Through Nick, Gatsby re-establishes a relationship with Daisy. They begin an affair after Gatsby invites Daisy to his mansion and shows her his wealth.5. The Confrontation: Tensions climax at the Plaza Hotel where Gatsby demands that Daisy declare she never loved Tom, which she cannot do. Gatsby's...

It is designed to create the most resistance, because it's the one thing that will guarantee progress and results. In this episode, we will answer the question… what is the number one thing that separates those who see results with their health, from those who don't?In today's episode, you will walk away with understanding the power of personal responsibility as it relates to the challenges in our society to make healthy choices a part of your lifestyle.Together, we will unpack:What separates those who see results with their health, from those who don't?What is radical responsibility and how can it shift your perspective to make healthy choices a part of your lifestyle? The most important takeaway from George Wilson's study and how you can apply it to your life. How our weight and the absence of disease does not necessarily mean we are healthy.Mentioned Resources:Episode 110: Your Comeback Experience Part 1 (R = Rear View Mirror)Connect with Holly: ▶️ REGISTER FOR THE *FREE* PRIVATE PODCAST SERIES - YOUR COMEBACK EXPERIENCE - podcastholly.com▶️ Complete an Application and Book Your Discovery Call (Back to YOU Program) - calendarholly.com▶️ Follow Holly Bertone on Instagram - @holly.bertone ▶️ More resources for Your Comeback Story - yourcomeback.coach If today's episode resonated with you, be sure to hit the follow button where you are listening and also tap those 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and leave a great review because it would mean so much to me to hang out with you every week and because it will also help to get this podcast and our wonderful message out to more listeners! He came from a high school in Kentucky that produced a number of well-known athletes, like Steve Finley, George Wilson and Kurt Barber. Terry Shumpert thought basketball at Paducah Tilghman High School would take him to the next level, but a knee injury turned his focus to the diamond. Shump could hit, was fast around the bases and had quite the glove on defense. He took his baseball skills to the University of Kentucky where he was a 3-year starter, 2X First Team All-SEC and still ranks near the top of the records books for the Wildcats in stolen bases. He was named an SEC Legend in 2013.Major League Baseball scouts noticed Terry at Kentucky and he was drafted in the 2nd round by the Kansas City Royals in 1987. It took a few years for his MLB debut, but it finally came in 1990 and from there he stayed in the Bigs until retirement in 2004. Five of his 14 seasons were spent the Rockies where he became the ultimate utility player. During his career, Terry played every position except pitcher and catcher. He was Mr. Reliable. After baseball, Terry focused on his five children with his wife DeQuita and has tried to impart the knowledge he has learned throughout his career, while also giving his kids the space to make their own decisions.

It's been 50 years since the release of the 1974 film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, THE GREAT GATSBY. Highlighting the 50th anniversary of the 1974 version of THE GREAT GATSBY is another opportunity to talk with author and professor of English Emily Bernard about this 1920s novel adapted for film and the themes that continue to resonate with our own times. Our conversation with Emily about the film adaptation of Nella Larsen's 1929 novel PASSING in episode 2 of the podcast, remains one of our most popular listens. Directed by Jack Clayton, and featuring Robert Redford as Jay Gatsby, Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan, and Sam Waterston as Nick Carraway, the film is a window into the roaring 1920s or the "Jazz Age," as Fitzgerald is credited for coining the phrase. The story is also a mirror on American social constructs for wealth, class, and illusion, as well as the destructive power to recapture the past. ----- Notes: "Negro" is used in its proper historical context in this conversation. *Spoiler alert* for persons who've never seen any film or television adaptation of F. By 1832 it was clear to both the House of Lords and the Commons that the British planters in the Caribbean were dragging the British economy into a credit crash. It looks to us very like the crash of 2008. The Jamaican Rebellion of 1831 and the vicious retaliation by the white supremacist Colonial Church Union in 1832 was the final nail in the coffin of British enslavement. The CCU showed beyond doubt that the Jamaican planters, who had always dominated the West Indian planters lobby in London, were a breed of racist thug who flatly refused to make conditions tolerable on their plantations. But the result was that they would never be commercially viable. Abolition became the obvious solution.

I'd never been and I cannot praise it enough. All the tours we took were exquisite and informational. Plus, the tastings were amazing. Buffalo Trace (and more specifically Eagle Rare) is my favorite distiller and blend, and we were fortunate enough to tour their facilities. If you've never been, you must put it on your bucket list. Worth every hour of my trip many times over. My question though is this: during the tastings they gave us a small piece of chocolate for a palate cleanser, but our guide actually got us to take a bite of the chocolate and then a swig of Buffalo Trace. It was like I'd never tasted Buffalo Trace before! It enhanced so many flavors of the whiskey that I'd never recognized prior. So…the question…..would a tobacco blend with notes of chocolate (let's say Polar Express) have a like affect on my palate when I drink a glass of whiskey? Hope you both are well and enjoying your “Lunting America Tour”. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep A California native, Manny Fernandez went undrafted out of the University of Utah, signing with the fledgling Miami Dolphins franchise in 1968 under then head coach, George Wilson. Fernandez was voted the Dolphins Outstanding Defensive Lineman his first five seasons with the team but his game began to raise to another level in 1970 as Don Shula took the helm. He was named a second team Pro Bowl performer that season and again in 1973, when he was also honored as the NFL's Unsung Player of the Year. As consistent as he was throughout his eight-year career, it was the Super Bowl that brought the best out of him. During the Dolphins' three consecutive Super Bowl appearances, Fernandez tallied 28 tackles and three sacks, including a 17 tackle, 1 sack performance in Super Bowl VII that many felt was worthy of the game's MVP rather than Fins safety, Jake Scott. In 2014, Yahoo! Sports ranked him as the 10th best player in Super Bowl history. In The Tank, Manny discussed his less than ideal relationship with his coach at Utah, revealed his reason for choosing Miami over two other teams interested in him out of college and recalled the dramatic change in Miami, as Don Shula's incredibly tough but highly effective style would change the franchise forever. Manny also shared the true story behind the legend of the alligator that turned up in the iconic coach's shower, the reason why a mysterious illness not only nearly caused him to miss his enshrinement in the Dolphins Honor Roll, but almost cost him his life, and explained why Zach Thomas may never go hunting with him again.

Seiple led the Dolphins with 577 receiving yards and 5 TD receptions in 1969, but he is best remembered for his fake punt in the 1972 AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers when his 37-yard scamper set up Miami's first score and propelled the team to a 21-17 victory and keeping the Perfect Season alive. Following his playing career, Seiple spent 20 years coaching in the NFL, including 12 seasons (1988-1999) with the Dolphins. In The Tank, “Seip” recalls the early years with the Dolphins playing for George Wilson, the dramatic shift that took place when Don Shula took the reigns in Miami, reveals who called the fake punt that has defined his playing career, shares which Dolphins Super Bowl Champion he feels was the better team, and sheds some light on what it was like to coach a young OJ McDuffie.   This episode is sponsored by:   Planet Protein https://www.planetprotein.com/ Use the code FISHTANK and receive 20% off ALL of your Planet Protein purchases.   Wizard Creations https://www.wizardcreations.com/ Use the code FISHTANK to receive 10% off your first order along with free set-up.   A&T Dry Cleaners https://www.drycleanertoyou.com/ Fish Tank listeners will receive 50% off their first order and 25% off all dry-cleaning afterwards!
