Ten Ways We Can Learn from King David • Friday Service To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Website: www.PastorTodd.org David is one of the most written-about figures in all of Scripture. He was a shepherd, a warrior, a fugitive, a king, a worshiper, a poet, and a man after God's own heart. He wasn't perfect—but he was postured toward the Lord. His life offers rich lessons in leadership, repentance, worship, endurance, and trust in God's timing. Today, we're going to look at ten powerful ways we can learn from David and apply these lessons in our own lives. 1. God Sees the Heart, Not the Outer Appearance Scripture: “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.'” — 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 2. Be Willing to Step Out in Faith When No One Else Will Scripture: “Then David said to the Philistine, ‘You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.'” — 1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV) 3. Honor Authority Even When It's Difficult Scripture: “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” — 1 Samuel 24:6 (NKJV) 4. Encourage Yourself in the Lord During Crisis Scripture: “But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” — 1 Samuel 30:6 (NKJV) 5. Be Quick to Repent Scripture: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 6. Inquire of the Lord Before Making Big Decisions Scripture: “Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I go up against the Philistines?' And the Lord said to David, ‘Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.'” — 2 Samuel 5:19 (NKJV) 7. Worship God with Abandon Scripture: “Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.” — 2 Samuel 6:14 (NKJV) 8. Be Willing to Wait for God's Timing Scripture: “David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.” — 2 Samuel 5:4 (NKJV) 9. Lead with Justice and Mercy Scripture: “So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered judgment and justice to all his people.” — 2 Samuel 8:15 (NKJV) 10. Leave a Legacy of Worship and Vision Scripture: “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God…” — 1 Chronicles 22:19 (NKJV) David was far from perfect—but he pursued God with all his heart. He teaches us about resilience in trial, repentance in failure, worship in victory, and faith in the waiting. Let us take these lessons and live like people after God's own heart. Let's be a church that worships boldly, repents quickly, seeks wisdom constantly, and lives with purpose and honor. CCLI: 21943673

Hebrews 12:1 tells us that the way we're going to be able to run OUR race is to "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles." I think we get the idea of the need to rid ourselves of sin.  That's a basic moral idea.  But, what hinders us from moving forward in life?  Often it's our "regrets and remorse," as author Mimika Cooney says, "our poor thinking and attitudes." Mimika Cooney is the author of a new book which will be released in early May.  It's called "Unstick Your Mind: Shift Your Mindset, Develop Grit, and Break Barriers."  As a "personal trainer for your mind, Mimika says, "Unsticking the mind is one of my favorite topics." She loves to help people see that they are not stuck in a certain way of thinking or reacting - like they never can rid themselves of resentment, moodiness, excessive sadness, or a sense of not being capable.  With the help and healing of Jesus and with the decision to press through the discomfort of change, we can become new.  "We can turn from being victims to being victors." Mimika's website will get you connected with her books, blogs, her YouTube channel and so many more wonderful resources to help you. You can connect with Dr. Pam through her website and social media platforms by going to her Link Tree page. TED & SHERI After a dozen year hiatus, one of gospel music's most legendary duos, Ted & Sheri – Ted Winn and Sheri Jones-Moffet, are back together again! The Stellar Gospel Music Award winning pair has teamed up with the dazzling GRAMMY® Award nominated foursome, The Walls Group. The blend of their respective Memphis and Houston church-trained voices is nothing short of magical on the soulful retro-styled, feel-good groove, “Now I Know” (Ted & Sheri, LLC / Black Smoke). The Memphis-reared duo of Ted & Sheri first hit the national stage in 2001 with the release of the independent album, The Healing Starts Right There (Church Howze), which earned them two Stellar Gospel Music Awards. The project featured the fan favorites, “Come Ye Disconsolate,” a remake of Andrae Crouch's classic “I'll Be Thinking of You,” and the acapella tune, “Thank Him.” Their 2004 sophomore album, Celebrate, featured the Billboard Top 5 title-cut that was written for them by Donald Lawrence. The cut, “God Will Take Care,” was featured on the platinum-selling project, WOW Gospel 2005. By the end of the decade, they had amicably pursued solo careers. Sheri went on to lead “Encourage Yourself” by Donald Lawrence & the Tri-City Singers on their Billboard No. 1 smash, “Encourage Yourself,” in 2007. She followed with two solo albums for EMI Gospel / Motown Gospel that birthed radio singles such as “Shine” and “Faith to Believe.” Her debut set, Renewed (Motown Gospel) earned her a GRAMMY® Award nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album in 2009. Ted launched his own recording label, Teddy's Jamz, in 2009. His solo debut album, Balance (Teddy's Jamz), appeared soon after with radio hits such as “God Believes in You,” “Moving Forward,” and the Top Ten smash, “The Lifter.” His 2017 album, Stand in Awe (Teddy's Jamz), featured four radio singles, including the Top 10 smash, “Grateful,” which featured the dynamic vocals of song stylist, Maranda Curtis. In 2021, Ted & Sheri reunited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their first release last year by partnering with Black Smoke Music Worldwide to release their first album in nearly two decades. The music video for their first offering, “God Can Heal It,” has racked up over a half million YouTube views. Their as yet untitled album will release later in 2022.

Tribute to: To Pastor Askews and Pastor Lightfoot everyone here at DCM sends our heartfelt condolences for your recent lost, we encourage you to continue to lean on God for comfort and blessing during your time of grief. *To our first responders - especially our nursing communities and all involved in fighting this pandemic. Our topic this week:   “Stop Crying; Encourage Yourself; & Pursue and Recover” — it is brought to you by: Minister Adrian Miller of Benton Harbor, Michigan. Minister Miller will be teaching from King James Version: 1 Samual 30:1-19; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Matthew 17:20; 6:33. Reference was given to: (Deuteronomy 31:6). Minister Miller started his teaching with a memory verse for us to meditate on; Deuteronomy 31:6, that we should — “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” This lesson encouraged us to return to faith even while standing in the light of the things that may challenges that faith; to turn to God and become vested in His teachings even as trouble and stress makes a fervent move to divide and concur us. Minister Miller spoke of David and although there are many things that discouraged David he never lost faith. The context of this lesson provided the clarity we needed to conceptionalize King David's story, and see how it fits into our duties as christians—to listen and obey God, and to understand it is not within our power to deny any season of our Lord and savior.  It was also duly explained the importance of our purpose in God and how to use that purpose to lift others up, even when our troubles overwhelm us, even as they become part of what we are avidly attempting to overcome; it is for us to remains compliant in our highest duties to help others, irrespective of how those troubles may affect our own lives. Remaining centered and focused is necessary if we are to conform to the goodness in God. Minister Miller placed great emphasis in explaining that trouble is  coming and that we must respond as christians and deal with all   trouble accordingly, why, because it is directly proportionate to the end results, a means to an end, and as we resurface that response directly affects how quickly we emerge, and also, what we look like in the aftermath, amen. This led Minister Miller to explain, how to recover our joy and fear, and not to be afraid of anyone, because God is with us, and because God is of the highest probity, we can be assured that He will honor his word.   God orchestrates our steps, and as witnessed in the book of Samuel, King David despite his commitment and loyalty and service to God,  was hated and challenged by the very men he led, it was their inability to see the benefits of their own faith rather than focusing on their loss and sacrifices. The Minister then explains, after returning from fighting alongside King David, their disdain quickly overcame them, because they were led by sight, absent of faith. This led them to considered stoning David and Minister Miller discussed how analogous their intentions personified a lack of faith and supports their strong temporal laodicean to their worldly attachments. Such as this, which was witnessed by the velleity of their volition, they turn against a chosen leader who led them through a fierce battle.Minister Miller also comparing this to mother and daughter; father; and son; sister and brother…etc. and the often disdain that infiltrates those relationships. How he maneuvered through this lesson is very analogous both biblically and in the secular, contemporary world. Just a little faith is the promise to salvation, our strength against principalities and all the evil that insist on condemning our souls. However, we often forget that, and as Minister Miller pointed that important fact out, it clearly exemplified how letting the enemy in, if we would take heed in the word of God, it empowers us to defeat the enemy. If not, we are predestined to engage with the wrong spirits, and it rest in our characters to then test faith a mist our bridled connection with God's word. Minister Miller then explains how such an attitude is a symptomatic defeat that allows the enemy to control, divide, conquer, then win, and sometimes with eternal consequences.During this lesson he staunchly explains that principalities are dictating our actions whenever we fail to follow God. These mannerisms and conduct are destructive and a harmful distraction, and throughout it all, we forget about what God want us to focus on, thus, allowing satan to control our situations, to separate us, and to bring destruction into every part of our existence.  In the mist of this, Minister Miller reach in and help us understand that being selfish is not godly. That we have to step out of self and focus on what the kingdom of God and his word is commanding us to do. To separate ourselves from complacency and to think about the welfare of others. He placed great emphasis on this. His line of teaching, showed us a great outcome, how to be better people; christians; and hearers of God's word. It help us to see where we are aiding trouble to fester in our life with Christ and what we need to do correct our inactions, for us to encourage ourselves to lean not to man but to restore our faith through God's word. In doing so, we must pray and trust in prayer and believe in all the promises of God and in his guidance. To use our post christ contemporary weapons, too ‘stop crying; encourage yourself; and pursue and recover. As explained in his lesson text, our decision may require us to separate ourselves from those who are a hindrance, allowing ourselves to be stripped of the thing that are holding us back, like jealousy; envy; pride; or negative influence and all the things that distracts us and takes us away from an enriched relationship and the will of Jesus. But how we respond to trouble and use God's promise, strictly depend on our relationship with Christ. Minister Miller explains that there are no secrets here, that God has given us the ability to bind the things on this earth which are problematic and don't lineup with God's doctrine, and as we exercise faith through prayer and supplication, it gives us the power to move mountains and bind those things that stand in our way. Let me start by saying this, the post that I am writing is in no way meant to bring condemnation. This post is to encourage you to be your best self for you so that you can be your best self for others. With that said, you cannot fill a well with an empty bucket. Let me explain. For nearly 10 years, I worked in ministry full-time. I gave everything I had to ministry. I sacrificed time and energy to make sure that everyone was taken care of. I also sacrificed my time to learn new skills and go back to school to better our family's opportunity in the marketplace. In the end, I had nothing left to give. I was dry. The well of information, of encouragement, of faith, was all dried up. What happened? At the end of the day, I had not replenished what I had given. I drained everything dry. Like the title says you cannot fill a well with an empty bucket. What I had to learn was to do these simple tasks to refill my bucket.Talk to God. I know that there are many of you who read my posts that do not have a faith journey. I write through the lens that I am living and I had to first learn to talk to God. He is the only One who can truly refill me and direct me towards my purpose.Write it Down. I began to write down my thoughts. Now, I did not do this every day, however, I did it as often as I could recall. At first, you won't do it every single day either. That's fine. Just start a process and you can change it down the road. We aren't trying to be religious...we're just trying to refill a dry well. Read. Some of life's greatest ideas come from reading. I have chosen to read a daily devotion from YouVersion, a daily reading from a John Maxwell Leadership Daily Reader, and a non-fiction book. I have a list of books that I am working on for 2019. You can download it free Book List!Dream. This has been probably the hardest thing over the past two years. Dreaming when you have had your life turned upside down, but like the Bible says, people without a vision die. I want to be filled with hope.Encourage Yourself. This is not a new age thing. The Bible even tells us that David encouraged himself. If it was good enough for the great king, I figure it would be good for me. This refills you with encouragement and promise.Remove the Negative. This means people, images, news, etc. Anything that is bringing you down with negativity, its time to remove it.These are just a few things that are currently helping me to refill the well. Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."Matthew 11:28
