Episode OverviewIn this Central PA Fishing Report from The Articulate Fly, host Marvin Cash checks in with George Costa, manager at TCO Fly Shop in State College, Pennsylvania, for a timely early-summer conditions and hatch update. The season is at a pivotal transition: the dominant spring hatches are winding down, the summer hatch calendar is coming online and terrestrial season is officially starting — all critical intelligence for anglers planning Central PA trout outings over the weeks ahead.Costa delivers a full-picture conditions read. Water levels are running a touch below seasonal average, with recent rain bringing some temporary color and a slight rise. Temperatures have been stable but are beginning to creep into the mid-60s°F on brighter, hotter days, which makes temperature-checking a new essential habit for summer outing planning. The hatch situation is in transition: sulphurs are still producing but require evening commitment on sunny days, while Cahills, Isos, summer quills, caddis, size 16 Cornutas and scattered stoneflies fill out the summer hatch calendar. Cloudier days give anglers an earlier dry fly window, while bright days push the best action to last light. On the nymph front, the prescription shifts to smaller, more precise patterns — perdigons and small Walt's worms — as larger attractor-nymph approaches give way to a tighter subsurface game. Crucially, Costa signals that the greenie weenie hatch (inchworm fall) is officially underway, making this the moment to add inch worms, ants and beetles to the summer dry fly box. Shop news includes a topwater smallmouth tying class with Caleb Rebarchak at the State College location, the All Fins In tournament benefiting Clearwater Conservancy and a fly fishing festival at TCO's Boiling Springs shop in August.Key TakeawaysWhy the greenie weenie (inchworm fall) marks the start of terrestrial season in Central PA and why inch worms, ants and beetles should be in your box from here forward. How to shift your nymph game as the major spring hatches wrap up — smaller, more precise patterns like perdigons and Walt's worms become the go-to subsurface approach. When to start actively monitoring water temperatures as summer heats up, particularly on bright, sunny days when temps begin pushing into the mid-60s°F range. Why evenings are your best window for dry fly fishing on Central PA trout water as summer sets in, with cloudier days pushing hatch activity earlier in the day.How to approach the variable nature of summer hatches in Central PA, where a strong emergence one evening can be followed by minimal activity the next — making patience and water-reading essential.Techniques & Gear CoveredThe episode centers on the tactical adjustments required as Central PA enters its early-summer transition. With the major spring hatches largely behind them, George Costa recommends downsizing nymph presentations to smaller, more precise patterns — specifically perdigons and small Walt's worms — as fish dial in to the subtler subsurface fare that characterizes this period. On the dry fly front, the priority shifts to evening sessions targeting sulphurs, Cahills and Isos, with summer quills, caddis, size 16 Cornutas and scattered stoneflies filling out the hatch calendar for those willing to stay on the water late. Terrestrials take center stage starting now, with Costa specifically calling out the greenie weenie as the signal that the inchworm fall has begun, while also recommending ants and beetles as essential additions to the summer dry fly box as conditions warm into the heart of the terrestrial season.Locations & SpeciesCentral PA's limestone stream corridor around State College is the setting for this report, with TCO Fly Shop's State College location serving as the operational center for George Costa's conditions read. While no specific stream names are mentioned in this episode, the conditions, hatches and tactical advice apply broadly to the region's wild trout fisheries — the spring creeks and limestone runs that draw anglers from across the mid-Atlantic for their hatch diversity and technical dry fly fishing. The key seasonal context is the early-summer transition: water temperatures are beginning to creep toward the mid-60s°F on warmer days, which will become an increasingly important factor for trout welfare and fishing strategy as summer advances. FAQ / Key Questions AnsweredWhat hatches are active in Central PA as summer gets underway? The major spring hatches are mostly wrapping up, but the calendar remains active. Sulphurs are still coming off in the evenings, with Cahills, Isos, caddis, summer quills, size 16 Cornutas and scattered stoneflies all in play as summer takes hold. George Costa notes that hatch activity can vary significantly day to day at this time of year — a strong emergence one evening can be followed by minimal activity the next — so working the water methodically and being in the right place at the right time is the primary strategy. When is the best time to fish dry flies on Central PA trout water in early summer?Evenings are the priority window for dry fly action during this period. On sunny or hot days, Costa advises anglers to stay late to catch the best hatch activity, particularly for sulphurs. Cloudier days push bug activity earlier in the day, giving anglers a longer productive window — so overcast conditions are worth capitalizing on when they arise. What nymph patterns work best as the big hatches wind down in Central PA?When the major hatches wrap up, Costa recommends shifting to smaller, more precise nymph patterns rather than larger attractor approaches. Perdigons and small Walt's worms are his go-to subsurface options for this period, matching the smaller aquatic fare that fish are keying on once the spring hatch season gives way to summer conditions. When does terrestrial season start in Central PA and what flies should I have ready?Costa signals that the greenie weenie hatch — the inchworm fall that marks the beginning of terrestrial season in Central PA — is underway now. Anglers should have greenie weenies in the box along with ants and beetles, and can expect those patterns to become increasingly productive as the warmer months set in. Costa frames this as one of the more reliable transitions of the summer season: once the greenie weenies start dropping, terrestrials will carry the dry fly game through the heat of summer.Related ContentS8, Ep 35: From Sulphurs to Drakes: George Costa's Essential Fishing Report for Central PAS8, Ep 30: Central PA Chronicles: George Costa's Guide to Spring Fishing Conditions and TechniquesS7, Ep 57: Cicada Mania: Central PA Fishing Insights with George CostaS7, Ep 70: The Dog Days of Summer: Trico Tactics in Central PA with George CostaConnect with Our GuestFollow TCO on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.Follow the ShowFollow The Articulate Fly on Facebook, Instagram, Threads and YouTube.Follow our Substack newsletter for episode updates, tips and resources.Support the ShowShop through our Amazon link to support the podcast.Join our Patreon community to support the show.If you are in the industry and need help getting unstuck, learn more about our consulting options.Subscribe & AdvertiseSubscribe to the podcast in your favorite podcast app.Think our community is a good fit for your brand?
H1-S2 full 00:15 I tell you what, I've been watching these polls for the governor's race and they're everywhere. I mean, these polls, you're like, and I'll give you a perfect example here. Hold on just a second. If you take a look at this and you go to interactive polls, insider polling has Pamela Ebbett at 19%, Alan Wilson 16%, Nancy Mase 13%, Rom Reddy 13%, 00:44 Ralph Norman 12%, they still include Josh Kimball coming in at 4 % rather. Then, so remember that, just real quick, Pamela Evans got leading the pack with 19%. And then if you go down and you look at some of these other polls, I mean, you go, wait a minute, is this even the same state? So here you've got another poll with Alan Wilson. 01:10 22%, Pamela Evitt at 17%, Ram Reddy 16%, Ralph Norman at 12, Nancy Mace at 12. That's from opinion diagnostics. Then you go to TPSI. They've got Nancy Mace at 31%. Pamela Vett at 26%, Ram Reddy 16%, Ralph Norman at 14, Alan Wilson at 13. I'm telling you what, and then, all right, here's another one. This is from... 01:40 Coefficient poll, the June 2nd through the 4th, Pamela Evitt, 23%, Rom Reddy, 17%, Alan Wilson, 16%, Ralph Norman, 15%, Nancy Mace, 11%. These things are scattered. mean, are y'all polling the same state people? But here's the thing you gotta be very careful about with these polls. Who 02:09 Are they polling? 02:12 Are they polling the general population? Is it just, hey, hey, Mr. and Mrs. So-and-so, who are you voting for? Are they voting, are they polling those people? Are they polling only Republicans? Then you have to take it and narrow it down a little bit. You have to go, are they polling Republican likely voters? 02:37 Not all the Republicans are going to vote today. We're going to see what the voter turnout. I'm predicting I'm going to be very gracious here. I'm going to be um very gracious, very generous with my prediction. 02:54 I'm gonna say 17%. I know, right? I'm thinking 17%. We'll see if I'm right on this. We'll see if I'm right on this, but I'm gonna say 17 % voter turnout. Are they polling like, oh, is, John said, it's raining out, you're right. Oh, yeah, I care about this state, but I don't wanna get wet. I just don't wanna get out there, I know, it happens. That's why I always say, I mean, early voting was a good idea for us. 03:22 But I'm going to say 17 % voter turnout. I might be wrong, but you poll general population, you poll Republican voters if they're Republican candidates, and then you poll likely Republican voters to narrow it down even more. And I'll be honest with you, I haven't dug into these polls um all of that much because a lot of them just came out just over the past couple of days. uh little issue. 03:53 little issue with the Pamela Yvette campaign. is minor, minor little incident of assault. I know, know, it's crazy, right? didn't, nothing really to see here. A man who the Pamela Yvette campaign says was a volunteer for the campaign was charged with assault outside of an Yvette campaign event ah on Monday night. This is according to a police report. 04:24 According to a police report, Greer Police Department incident report that Blake Garrison Kirsch, I think that's how you pronounce it, Kirsch, 27 years old, is charged with third degree assault and battery. Third degree assault and battery. I'm telling you what, this is crazy. Now we got, listen, it happened Monday night. Happened Monday night. Now this is from FitzNews. 04:54 A member of South Carolina gubernatorial front runner Pam Levitt's campaign finance team was arrested in Greer on Monday night and charged with assault after ripping a megaphone out of the hands of a political opponent. Blake Kirsch, 27, a realtor from Boiling Springs, was charged by officers of the Greer Police Department with third degree assault on batters. 05:18 That's according to an incident report. Kurtz ripped the megaphone out of the victim's hands. Kurtz then ran up. um 05:29 I guess this is the victim talking. And welcome back to the program. Let's go to the WRID chalk line. We'll talk to Dean in Cashville. How are you doing, Dean? Not bad, Charlie. And I don't know what the message someone's seeing on Facebook was, but the service you're doing for this community is immense. And the reason I mentioned this is the fault you all cut you all are the voice of the Carolinas. And that's that means a lot of people do not realize what's at stake in this sheriff's race. Yeah. Charlie, you if you have not been to Downtown Spartanburg, the Montgomery Building that has been restored, there is the lobby is vintage nineteen twenties. It's gorgeous. They've got another new hotel, and I've not been to Boiling Springs in years. Right. Their target is amazing. So what I'm saying is there's a lot of money coming into Spartanburg, a lot of development. And that when you talk to the sheriff, this is one issue that it's like going to Downtown Spartanburg. That would be a great thing to do. This is why what you're doing is so important and why I wanted I just wanted to thank you for what you do. And the Montgomery Building in Spartanburg is gorgeous. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you very much, Dean. Let's go to David in Greenville and talk to him. David, what's on your mind this afternoon? Well, you're talking, I'm one of those people like you who was glad that, I see the police drive through drive through my neighborhood. Yeah. Well, this morning, I went to parties to have my twice weekly breakfast there. Alright. There is this, no time to make it racial here, but this black woman had a couple of small children with her. Well, the, two police officers come in. Guess what? The smallest child started dealing when he saw police walk up. Oh, no. What? He's screaming and crying and checking. I hate you, police. I hate you. Oh my gosh. And that's that's it. I mean, you people teach their children to be afraid of police officers, and that is completely the wrong thing to do because who are they gonna run to if there's a problem? I appreciate it, David. Thank you. Let's go to Melissa in Malden. Melissa, welcome to you. Hello, Charlie. How are you? I'm doing good. How about yourself? Wait. Melissa from Malden. Yes, ma'am. What's going on? You know what I wanna talk about? So I wanna talk about our senior citizens and Social Security and all of that. I ordered a pizza yesterday, and this poor man came with a walker. I mean, not a walker, a cane, and a pizza in one hand, cane in the other, walking to my front door. He's 80 years old, and he cannot survive of his Social Security check. I I mean, I literally talked to him for, like, ten minutes. Yeah. But my husband's in the same boat. He's 70. He's living off Social Security. And my thing is is, like, all of this money that American taxpayers have sent for the illegals through Social Security Yeah. The during the Biden administration. You are right. When are our so when when are our seniors gonna get a a check? A decent raise. They need it they need to be repaid because this is ridiculous. This poor man is delivering pizzas at 80 years old. Right. Yeah. Just do. A cane. Yeah. I understand. Unacceptable. It is unacceptable. And and then the Biden administration, they literally stole money from taxpayers. I appreciate it, Melissa. Stole and it's not just the illegal aliens. It's the people that are getting Social Security illegally. Those are the only people that the Republicans are looking at kicking off the Social Security roles and the Medicare roles and the Medicaid roles are the people that are gaming the system. They're the ones that are stealing from the American people, but the Democrats, they're like, oh, no. We have to protect those. Alright. I got a nasty. I got a nasty email yesterday. We told you about the story yesterday about, these animal advocates who basically, according to the sheriff's department, stole this little dog named Max. They named it Max. That was I think the dog's r ...

Globally, Trump's Trump's tariffs are working. And another quick thing about Belichick Yeah. If he marries that girl if he marries that girl, are the young unsung to call her nana or granny? Yeah. Right? I don't know. My gosh. It's gonna be awful. Thank you so much, buddy. You be careful out there. Yep. Even even the pope is American made. That's how well Trump's, tariffs are working. Now what you're not hearing from the mainstream media is exactly that, how well Trump's tariffs are working. Already signed that huge great deal. It was a huge deal. It's the best deal we've ever done with The UK. Nobody else could do it but me. Only I could do and he's right. Only he could do that. Because these even as they pointed out over on CNN last night, The United States has has been trying to come up with some sort of a trade deal with The UK for a long time. Now remember, they lost a lot of their trading status when they went through Brexit, and they broke away from the European Union. So they lost a little bit there, but now this this benefits them. It benefits us. Everybody's a winner. But who is about to come to the table? Well, China. China's getting ready. So it wasn't long ago, and and you saw it. Everybody, you know, if you're on social media, you probably saw it. China went on this huge campaign. It was a propaganda campaign is what it was. What it was. It was a big propaganda campaign. They even you know, they were pumping up China's economy, and everything is going great. And we got, they they posted images of Mao Zedong, lambasted imperialist, sent messages to people's phones capitulating to bullies as dangerous, and it went it it it that they wouldn't back down. Well, not so much. Because now we're finding out according to Tyler Durden over there at the Liberty Daily, behind closed doors, China was quietly and has been quietly preparing to do that back down. And Reuters reports that according to three sources, officials had grown increasingly alarmed about tariffs, impacts on the economy, and the risk of isolation as China's trading partners have started negotiating deals with Washington. China's reasons for deciding to negotiate, Washington's letter on fentanyl, US diplomatic challenges in Beijing, and the early outreach between the two sides are reported by Reuters for the first time based on interviews with nearly a dozen government officials and experts on both sides. As usual, China's diplomatic efforts had two faces. One, for the popular domestic consumption and one for private engagement with the adversary, and that case is Us. China's Foreign Ministry said in a statement to Reuters that it reiterated that China's firm opposition to The US abuse of tariff is consistent and clear, and there is no change. It added that The U US has ignored China's goodwill and unreasonably imposed tariffs on China under the pretext of fentanyl. This is a typical act of bullying with serious, which seriously undermines the dialogue and cooperation between the two sides in the field of drug control. Now they're backing down. "Choral programs don't exist in a vacuum. They exist in a place, and they exist in a place that serves a people. That people group is always bigger than choir. The first thing that you've gotta do is answer the question, 'how are my people, how is my place going to be served by choral music?' and then build that. Coach Chelsea speaks wih Coach Simmons as she takes the helm at the University of Memphis. We speak about her plans, her faith in God, Servant Leadership, and apply those principles to her assignment as Head Coach. Two-time NCAA National Champion and Tennessee native Alex Simmons was named the head coach of the Memphis Tiger women's basketball team on April 6, 2023 and became the 13th head coach in the program's history. Simmons comes to Memphis after five seasons at the helm of Gardner-Webb where she led the team to a 90-59 record including a 29-5 mark this past season. The Runnin' Bulldogs broke multiple program, school and Big South records with their 29 victories and a 21-game win streak that included a perfect 18-0 record in conference play. GWU captured the regular season and championship titles for the program's first trip to the Big Dance since the 2010-11 season. Simmons, who was named as the Big South Coach of the Year, saw four of her five starters earn All-Big South honors in 2022-23, while Jhesskya Williams became just the third player in Gardner-Webb history to surpass 2,000 career points, finishing as the program's second all-time leading scorer with 2,049 points. Simmons' basketball roots run deep to one of the most respected programs in the game. She played collegiately at the University of Tennessee under basketball Hall of Fame coach Pat Summitt from 2004-2009, helping the Lady Vols win back-to-back NCAA National Championships in 2007 and 2008. Simmons was a member of three Final Four squads (2005, 2007, 2008) and another Elite Eight team (2006) while serving as a team captain and was also the Lady Vols representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). During the 2021-22 season, Simmons steered the Dogs to an overall record of 11-13 and 10-7 in the Big South. Under Simmons, Alasia Smith was named the Big South Freshman of the Year after the five-time Freshman of the Week averaged 11.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG and led the conference with 4.0 offensive rebounds per game. Simmons led the Runnin' Bulldogs to an 18-11 overall record and 13-7 in Big South Conference play in 2019-20, finishing fifth in the league standings. GWU ended the season on a hot streak, winning four-straight games and seven of their last eight matchups before play was halted prior to the Big South tournament. Under Simmons, Carley Plentovich earned a handful of accolades during the 2019-20 season, including All-Big South honors, as well as a Big South Player of the Week award. She also became the program's 24th 1,000-point scorer, the first under Simmons, and was named to the Big South's All-Academic team. In her first season in Boiling Springs, Simmons led Gardner-Webb to a 16-15 record and 10-8 Big South mark in 2018-19 with a fifth-place finish. Two players - Plentovich and Williams – would earn All-Big South honors. Simmons took over the Runnin' Bulldogs in April 2018 after assistant coaching stints at Ole Miss (2013-2018) and Middle Tennessee State (2010-2013). She also served as a graduate assistant coach at Kansas (2009-2010). Prior to her time at Ole Miss, Simmons served as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State, helping the Blue Raiders to three NCAA Tournament appearances during her time on the bench. Her work with the team's post players produced an honorable-mention All-America selection and in the 2011-2012 season saw the Blue Raiders grab the most rebounds since 1983. Also a Street & Smith's All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2001 and 2002, Simmons helped the Golden Eaglettes to Tennessee State Championships in 2001, 2003 and 2004. She was a three-time All-State selection, four-time All-District choice and was named as the Mid-State Player of the Year in 2003. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2008 with a degree in exercise science. Simmons and her husband, Christian, have two daughters – Carsyn and Channing. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chefranjohn/support

It's Tuesday, July 18th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Chinese Communists are rewriting the Bible Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin wrote a Fox News column in which he announced yesterday that the Communist Chinese Party is rewriting the Bible. And, across one province, “local CCP officials forced Protestant churches to replace the Ten Commandments with Xi Jinping quotes. "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" became "Resolutely guard against the infiltration of Western ideology." This comes as Party Chair Xi declared at the 19th Party Congress this year, "We will… insist on the sinicization of Chinese religions, and provide active guidance for religion and socialism to co-exist." “Conservative” denominations which welcome female leadershi The Christian Post has issued a list of what they call “theologically conservative” denominations which have incorporated women into leadership as pastors, priests and elders. They include: The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, the Anglican Church of North America, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Reformed Church in America, the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, the Wesleyan Church, Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, the Canadian Reformed Church, the Christian Reformed Church in North America, and the Four Square Church. The Christian Post also continues publishing opinions in support of bringing more women into church leadership. Sound of Freedom trouncing new Mission Impossible film Sound of Freedom, the recently released film which addresses child kidnapping and trafficking, has outsold Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Part One. Sound of Freedom has made $85 million in box office receipts, and the film collected another $27 million over the weekend. That's a 37% increase from the previous weekend sales. The production company for the film, Angel Studios, reports over 7 million in ticket sales, far exceeding their initial 2 million-ticket goal. Watch the trailer and get tickets through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. The teen porn pandemic Yet, more concerning, is a recent survey that found that pornography viewing among underaged kids, below the age 17, now stands at 75%, up from 42% in 2014. While about 300-400 children are kidnapped in this nation each year, 25,000,000 children are introduced to pornography between the ages of 10 and 17, with 12 being the average age of first exposure. Ezekiel 5:6 describes our nation. “She has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations and against My statutes more than the lands which surround her; for they have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.” Russia and Belarus barred from 2024 Olympic Games The Olympics have entered the realm of international politics with a new recommendation just out last week. Russia and Belarus are barred from the 2024 games — for their involvement in the Ukrainian war, reports NPR. Historically, the U.S. boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980 upon the USSR's invasion of Afghanistan. And South Africa was banned from the Olympics in 1964 — for its apartheid policies. Canada greenlights euthanasia for mentally ill Canada is expanding its euthanasia program, or Medical Assistance in Dying, to the mentally ill beginning in March of 2024, reports The Messenger. The killing is increasing at a rate of 30% per year. Canadian doctors killed 10,064 people in 2021, not counting babies. That's up from 6,700 in 2020, and 3,100 in 2018. The program kicked off in 2015. New Iowan law bans abortion after 6 weeks Iowan Republican Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a 6-week abortion ban into law. The law allows exceptions for rape and incest, as well as miscarriages and fatal fetal abnormalities. Plus, it allows for the child to be aborted for any reason prior to the detection of a fetal heartbeat. Immediately upon the bill passing into law, pro-abortion forces jumped into action. State Judge Joseph Seidlin issued a court order to block enforcement. Iowa has seen a shift to a more conservative red in voting patterns as 58% of the gubernatorial vote went Republican in the 2022 elections. That was 44% in 2002 and 2006. Suspected serial killer just arrested for decades-old murders Numbers 32:33 warns, “Be sure your sin will find you out.” Police have arrested a suspected serial killer concerning murders taking place between 1996 and 2011 in Long Island, New York, reports Fox News. That's 12-26 years ago. An architect named Rex Heuermann is in police custody. About half of murders go unsolved in America which is about the lowest among industrialized nations. God's heat wave In God's providence, a major heat wave across the southern part of the U.S. is producing record-breaking temperatures. Phoenix, Arizona just tied a record. Temperatures there rose above 110 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 days straight. And the current 7-day forecast is looking like a 25-day run. The hottest place on Earth — Death Valley, California -- hit a temperature of 128 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday. That's just six degrees shy of the world record. What Jeff in Tennessee told me On Monday, I announced that Shannan in Alexandria, Minnesota generously offered to match, dollar for dollar, the first 10 people who gave a one-time gift of $600 or pledged $50/month for 12 months to help fund this newscast for another year. Jeff in Sevierville, Tennessee was one of the first four Worldview listeners to accept that challenge. When I called him up yesterday evening, this is what he told me. JEFF: “You may not know it, but you have coffee with me most mornings about sunrise. I really appreciate your broadcast. I've supported you for two or three years now. And I also knew that I needed to change the amount of my giving. So, I'm kind of calculating, and I keep coming up with this number, you know. “When I heard that Shannon from Alexandria, Minnesota had made a challenge to people, up to $600 amount, I knew then that that was the number that the Lord had given me to give to your ministry. So, that's what I did. I'm a steward and it's the Lord that's sown into your work.” 12 Worldview listeners gave $6,687.75 Through God's provision, 12 Worldview listeners donated toward our $80,000 goal by Monday, July 31st to keep this unique Christian newscast on the air. Our thanks to Christina in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania who gave $25, Ben in Wall, Texas and Eric in Burnet, Texas – both of whom gave $100, and Nancy in Ketchikan, Alaska who gave $180. We thank God for The Dreyer Family including Elijah, age 15, Malachi, age 12, and Samuel, age 8 in Greencastle, Indiana who collectively gave $232.75, Leann from Zeeland, North Dakota who gave $300, Ed in Wellsburg, Iowa who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a total gift of $300, and Julie in White Hall, Maryland who gave $350. We were touched by the kindness of Zephaniah in Lomax, Illinois, Jeff in Sevierville, Tennessee, and Caleb in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania – each of whom gave $600 as well as James in Lenoir, North Carolina who pledged $75/month for 12 months for a total gift of $900. As promised, Shannan in Alexandria, Minnesota will match those last four donations with a gift of $2,400. If you are one of the next six Worldview listeners to pledge $50/month for 12 months or give a one-time gift of $600, she will match you as well. Those 12 new donations add up to $6,687.75. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $32,981.16 (Crowd cheering sound effect) In order to hit our $60,000 immediate goal by this Friday, July 21st, we need to raise $27,018.84. After the next six people give $600 or pledge $50/month, we will need to raise $19,818.84. That would mean 16 more people to pledge $50/month and 32 more to pledge $25/month. Just go to TheWorldview.com and click on “Give” at the top right to give what the Lord is prompting you to donate. Make sure to select the “Recurring” tab if that's your wish. And, by the way, I'm still looking for 2-4 sentence long emails from listeners across the nation and around the world. What does the newscast meant to you. I'm especially interested in hearing from listeners outside America and Canada. Make sure to include your full name, city and state, and if outside America, your country. Send that to Adam@TheWorldview.com. Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, July 18th in the year of our Lord 2023. #CaseyYoung, 44, was last heard from around 4:30 p.m. on May 15, presumably headed to her home in Boiling Springs, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office. Authorities announced on May 20 that Young's car had been found. #DaronCollins appeared in court on Friday. He is charged with grand larceny and obstructing justice in the case. Solicitor Barry Barnette said in court the family said Young was living with Collins at the time. Collins told authorities on May 17 that Collins and Young got into an argument on May 15 after she returned home from work, and then Young left the home. Barnette said Young's car was found at Windsor Palms Apartments, which is three miles from Young's home. According to Barnett, a video on May 15 shows someone wiping down the inside of the car with gloves on, and then that same person walks to the dumpster and throws items away. That video was played in court on Friday. Authorities have described Casey as being 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds with long, black braids. An anonymous donor is offering a $10,000 reward that leads to Casey's location and the identification of the person(s) responsible for her disappearance. Emma hosts Elizabeth Popp Berman, associate professor of organizational studies at the University of Michigan, to discuss her recent book Thinking Like An Economist: How Efficiency Replaced Equality In U.S. Public Policy, on how the era of neoliberalism saw a new mode of reasoning in Washington, and the lasting effects it has today. First, Emma and Professor Berman paint a picture of how she opens her book, diving into why the election of Obama in 2008 serves as a perfect climax of the hyper marketization of US policy over the last half-century, looking at his facade of change and aesthetic of progress grounded in policy that ultimately looked nothing like the progressive action of Democrats from the ‘30s to ‘60s. Next, Professor Elizabeth Popp Berman jumps back to the ‘60s as she works to summarize this Econ 101 mode of reasoning that centers microeconomic concepts such as incentive and efficiency, originally coming into the Defense Department from the Rand Corporation, emphasizing cost-benefit analysis and catching on quickly in the midsts of LBJ's Great Society expansion. As this way of thinking spread throughout Washington, one of the most disastrous effects was how it hooked itself into the Democratic party, defanging any talk of larger social spending in the name of equality after Johnson, led by a technocratic ideology of the markets, and coming into full swing under Carter as the early administrations of the ‘70s proved its efficacy in bolstering political and market power. Diving further into Carter's regime, Beth and Emma look to public interest groups and policy schools in bolstering faith in technocracy and the elite hyper-marketization of our government, undermining healthcare accessibility, anti-trust regulation, and much more in favor of maximizing efficiency, before touching on how these schools of thought effectively ingrained themselves in Washington's culture. Emma then dives into the incongruous relationship between efficiency and broader claims about rights (human, civil, economic, or other), as Professor Berman discusses the impact of this on social justice policy in the neoliberal era, before they wrap up the interview by looking at the hyper-specificity of this mode of economic reasoning (opposed to a labor-focused or Keyensian mode of economic reasoning), and discuss what the future of the left looks like, particularly when it comes to shifting away from this constraint on policy. Emma also dives into updates from Ukraine, as Jake Tapper posits meeting bloodshed with even more bloodshed in order to stop the bloodshed, and looks to France as she discusses the neoliberal centrist drive to appeal to the far right. And in the Fun Half: Emma takes a call with Dan from Boiling Springs on the new age spirituality community's growing dissolution with the vitriol in Q Anon-like conspiracy, Chris Coons apologizes for responding to Republican corruption with obstructionism, William from CA discusses getting around abortion bans, and a start-up guru takes a dip into promoting unhealthy habits to lower insurance costs. Caitlyn Jenner gives an unsurprisingly despicable take on the “Don't Say Gay” legislation, Jeff from New Mexico gets into the nitty-gritty of today's interview, and Jean from France discusses his “lesser evil” conundrum ahead of the upcoming election. DJT forgets who's prosecuting him for what, and Pradeep from Canada dives into how Jordan Be Peterson-ing and the Texas abortion indictment, plus, your calls and IMs!
