Martin, Charles and Tyler begin their second day of work for Farnum. The mood of all the workers starts out upbeat. The old and new tracks are connected and the locomotive is nearly to the old railhead. A squabble among the workers reveals that Farnum has massively over-promised everyone's stake in the profits. The angry mob attack Farnum, leaving him bloody and unconscious. Too late, do they realize that Farnum was the only one who knew what to do. Is the railroad project doomed? The three men from Cheshire finally arrive in Lincoln. They confront Mr. Farnum about the danger they had to face. Rather than make their ordeal a waste of time, they renegotiate a deal -- one day of labor for a trailer full of wood. Farnum suggests that they might wish to revisit the original terms at the end of the day. The Hendrick brothers repair broken drag saws and create new rail spacers. While Tyler still thinks the railroad scheme is all a scam, the evidence of all the other people working argues that it is legit. Will they work another day for 5%, or will they go with just a trailer full of wood? Monthly members at Buy Me A Coffee, and patrons on Patreon, already know what happens next. Mr. Farnum visits the Hendricks' farm and is impressed with Charles' new gasifier-generator-welder. He tells of the need the Central Rail Collaborative has for a bigger welder and some of the the difficulties the CRC has faced thus far. Charles tries to finagle profitable terms in exchange for helping the CRC. To his and Martin's surprise, Farnum agrees to a rather generous deal. "That was too easy," Martin says. What you’ll learn in this episode: Why creating a successful jewelry business takes more than a love of jewelry Why collectors should focus on fewer, better quality things How Dana tailors her services to capture the millennial market Why more people are choosing wearable, everyday jewelry rather than showstopping pieces How Dana defines what a collector is About Dana Kraus The DK Farnum collection is a reflection of years of luxury goods experience. Dana Kraus was in management at Gourmet, Elle, and Fortune magazines, where she cultivated jewelry clients, made excellent contacts and learned how to navigate the finest jewelry houses to ferret out exceptional design. Her extensive research and vigilant, disciplined eye are the forces behind the collection. She studied art history and decorative arts at the Brearley School and Smith College and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Dana Kraus took a unique path to the jewelry industry, which might be why she has a unique approach to collecting. As the founder of DK Farnum Estate Jewelry, she helps her clients refine their taste and often advises them to cut back the size of their collections in favor of quality. Her personal approach and expertise in 20th-century jewelry has endeared her to a loyal group of buyers—including millennial buyers, who are notorious for their lack of interest in estate jewelry. Last year, Sanderson released an autobiography about his career, Yes, I'm That Guy: The Rough-and-Tumble Life of a Character Actor.
Veteran of the United States Army, Law School graduate, Elvis aficionado, Tennessean born and bred, author, actor. Husband and father. You may remember him as E.B. Farnum in HBO’s Deadwood, or Sheriff Bud Dearborn on True Blood. He played Lippy on my favorite western, Lonesome Dove, J.F. Sebastian on the cult sci-fi hit Blade Runner, he had a brother Daryl and another brother Daryl on little show called Newhart. Maybe you’ve heard of it. Oh, I’m not done. Ever heard of Starsky and Hutch? Knight Rider? The Dukes of Hazard? Married with Children, the X Files, ER, Lost, American Gods. How about Coal Miner’s Daughter, Last Man Standing, Gods and Generals, Andersonville? The list goes on. It was my great pleasure to talk with Mr. Sanderson, one of the GREATEST character actors of all time! His new book, which I literally devoured in two sittings, is called Yes, I’m That Guy: The Rough And Tumble Life Of A Character Actor. Trust me on this one, go buy a few copies. If there’s anyone in your life who’s a fan of older movies, or even an Elvis fan, this would be a great stocking stuffer or birthday gift. Also really lame jokes! Each episode I discuss a real life person or event from the wild west era (gunfighters, lawmen, outlaws, Native Americans, frontiersmen, etc). This episode shows how quickly a new product idea can turn into a successful business and the key steps in the process! When Amanda Farnum's kids were young, she wanted to take a break from her day job to spend time with them, but she didn't want to retreat from the business world completely. She thought long and hard about how to use her project planning skills and arts education to create a small business. The “a-ha” moment came on a family vacation, when she thought that tourist hotels could make art kits available for their guests. After an all-night brainstorming session with her husband, Amanda decided then that she would be the person to create those kits. Five months later, she was representing her paint-by-numbers designs professionally at craft shows. Her home-based business, Wehgo.com, skyrocketed from there. Amanda's success came from deep creative and organizational skills, a clear business plan, the discipline to execute that plan, a proprietary manufacturing process, and support from her business partner (her husband) as well as local networks of other entrepreneurs. Amanda discusses the growth of her company and some of its challenges and success milestones over the past five years—all the way up to the Washington Post article last week that spotlighted her business and spiked sales even more! She talks about the challenges of finding a name for her product, setting up the business, launching a website, selling on Etsy and Faire, displaying her wares in craft and trade shows, expanding her design portfolio, and moving into the world of wholesale to brick-and-mortar stores. She also talks about the role of her children in her business, seasonal planning, changes after the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, her current personal and professional goals, and possible growth opportunities from here. Podcast: Podcasts – TechSpectiveEpisode: Michael Farnum Chats about ICS SecurityPub date: 2019-08-05Inner Circle Podcast Episode 037 My friend Michael Farnum is my guest for this episode of the Inner Circle podcast for an insightful discussion on increased threats against industrial control systems (ICS) and the need for ICS security. Michael and I have known each other for years after meeting at a Security Blogger's Meetup at RSA many years ago. We both live in the Houston area, and every once in awhile the Venn diagram of our kids' extracurricular activities overlap and we run into one another. Farnum and I worked together for a short time while we were both at Alert Logic. I'm still at Alert Logic by day, but Farnum's knowledge and skills could not be contained within the world of marketing and he left for Set Solutions where he could get back in the trenches and work directly with customers solving cybersecurity challenges. On this episode of the Inner Circle podcast we talk about cybersecurity for industrial control systems. ICS security is a significant challenge--especially in the Houston area with all of the companies in the oil and gas industry--and it's a primary focus for Farnum lately at Set Solutions. We also talk about the Houston Security Conference. Michael is a co-founder of the event and one of the chief conference organizers. He has hosted the Houston Security Conference for over a decade now, and it continues to grow--both in terms of attendance and in terms of its prestige. I had the privilege of presenting a session at the 2019 Houston Security Conference. My session differed from the cybersecurity advice and insight and focused on the cybersecurity industry through a marketing and journalism lens. Listen to the podcast and feel free to share your thoughts or ask questions in the comments below. Please subscribe to the Inner Circle podcast through your favorite podcast platform, and share the podcast with your peers and friends. In today’s conversation, I speak with Kathleen Murphy. Kathleen was used to showing up in business with high energy, excitement, and enthusiasm. To her, this “intensity” never appeared to be a hindrance to her work, until she was able to take pause and look closer. Through understanding the principles of thought, she now sees that overexcitement is actually the result of a sped up mind, leading to mental distortion. Kathleen points to the indispensable value of neutrality as the source of clarity, fresh insight, higher efficiency, effective leadership, and genuine collaboration. Kathleen Murphy, M.Ed., LADC, is the VP of Substance Abuse Services for Farnum Center, overseeing Farnum’s Outpatient Programs, Medical Detox, and Admissions. Kathleen has been providing treatment to those affected by substance use disorder since 2003. She earned her master’s degree in counseling in 2010 from the University of New Hampshire and is a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
A scout for a powerful mining operation arrives; ailing Swearengen refuses visitors and medical attention; Farnum finds someone to buy the Hickok letter.
William Sanderson has enjoyed a prosperous career in Hollywood as a highly successful character actor whom everyone seems to recognize - but they aren't always certain from what. Spanning a variety of genres over nearly a half-century performing in TV, film and stage, Sanderson has inhabited such high-profile roles as E.B. Farnum in the HBO western "Deadwood," Sheriff Bud Dearborne in the HBO vampire series "True Blood," Larry in the classic CBS sitcom "Newhart" and J.F. Sebastian in the sci-fi film masterwork "Blade Runner.""Yes, I'm That Guy" takes readers behind the scenes of these productions and many more including "Coal Miner's Daughter," "Lonesome Dove," "Lone Wolf McQuade" and "The Client," showcasing Sanderson's knack for making a memorable mark in each of his projects. But as you will learn in his memoir, Sanderson is far more than merely the sum of his characters. His tumultuous rags-to-riches story is instructive in demonstrating the power of perseverance and fortitude in overcoming one's struggles with self-doubt and self-sabotage and - thanks to the love of a good woman - ultimately carving out a positive, contented life.
This show is compromised of two people who have seen deadwood before and one who just watched this episode for the first time (Chad). With annexation of Deadwood looming, Swearengen calls a meeting to set up an informal government. Bullock and Alma compare notes on Ellsworth and each other, and Farnum gets a special-delivery letter from Hickok and a special new post. Joanie finally prepares to make a go on her own, with Cy's avowed blessings, and after a long binge, Calamity Jane decides to ride out of town. Also Chad gets as drunk as one of the Calamity Jane in this episode.
After tracking down a murderer, Bullock returns to camp as a changed man; Swearengen sees through Trixie's latest subterfuge; Alma remains cold on Farnum's bid on her claim.
Swearengen directs Farnum to buy back the Garret claim; Alma asks Calamity Jane and Hickok for help; Charlie Utter leaves the camp; Hickok's luck at poker yields an unexpected return.
I’ve always found it hard to ignore the suffering and strife of my fellow man, and during the times in my life when I actually could stiffen my neck and avert my eyes, I’ve been filled with something that I can only call shame. I’ve been guilty of looking around the world, seeing people in difficult times, and like many, I’ve said, “Somebody should do something about that,” only to continue about the business of me. As it turns out, people are doing something and they’ve been doing it in my hometown—Sulphur, Louisiana—for over 35 years. Jody Farnum, the Director of Care-Help in Sulphur, came to visit with me on Find the Good News and expanded my understanding of the extent to which Care-Help serves individuals and families right here at home. To say my mind was blown would be putting it mildly. Care-Help is serving the less-fortunate of Sulphur in a capacity that is really hard to comprehend, especially considering the modest location where they operate. To the average passerby, Care-Help might appear to be a simple thrift store that rejuvenates, repairs, and re-sells donated goods to the public. What you find out if you push through the surface a bit further is that the funds received from those sales are transformed into care and help in the form of food, services, and resources for a growing number of needy right here in our area. Sometimes, the difference between stability and despair is a matter of luck. Many of us, the lucky ones, don’t know what it’s like to be in dire straights, to really be at the mercy of human kindness and compassion. We know where our next meal is coming from. We can pay our bills. We have our health. Our jobs are secure. We have friends, family, loved ones, neighbors, and co-workers that have helped us along the way, that care about us, and would assist us in our hour of need. For some, that security, that safety net, simply does not exist, and that is where the loving labor of Care-Help in Sulphur gets engaged. Jody is no stranger to struggles. She has been on the outside looking in. She’s climbed peaks, and fallen into valleys. Her experiences have given her eyes free of judgment, allowing her to look on her neighbors with love, and the vision to lead the altruistic employees and volunteers that she surrounds herself with. She told me that if you look, if you’re paying attention, then Christ will appear in your life every single day. For Jody, He often walks through the doors of Care-Help in Sulphur needing food, clothes, or things to make His shelter, His life, a little more comfortable, a little more bearable. Care-Help in Sulphur doesn’t turn people away. Care-Help in Sulphur turns the disregarded and leftovers into blessings, and the people they help often return the kindness by coming back to Care-Help to serve others. Good news looks different for each of us depending on our lot in life. For many people in Sulphur, Louisiana, good news looks like Jody Farnum and a little facility called Care-Help. ========== THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY PARKER BRAND CREATIVE SERVICES >> www.ParkerBrandUp.com FOR MORE INFO ON CARE HELP >> http://www.care-help.org/

Dr. Wilkie is the Chief Operating Officer at Farnum. She has led the premier substance abuse treatment programs at Farnum and Farnum North since 2008. She has been recognized by multiple community organizations, state offices and legislative committees for excellence in business management and healthcare advocacy. Her ability to understand the human experience is evident in her leadership and talent for empowering everyone to recognize their innate potential. When I think of a model for leading change in an organization, I think of Cheryl. In the time that I’ve known Cheryl, I’ve watched her create major change in the culture, engagement and leadership of her organization. Through her commitment to her own journey in understanding the principles behind human potential, she has been able to win over the hearts and minds of her most resistant employees and empower her team to step into new roles and new capabilities. And doing it all while serving their clients with passion and care. The culture they have all created is rare and having a huge impact in their clients lives. If you listen to Cheryl, she’ll tell you, all she did was invite them to be who they already are, and she can’t take credit for that.

Most people know William Sanderson from his role as E. B. Farnum, the shady, self-promoting Mayor from the HBO series, Deadwood, or as the strange hillbilly neighbor of Dick Loudon on the long-running TV sitcom Newhart. Perhaps some of you older Sci-Fi fans may also know William from his iconic role as J. F. Sebastian, the slightly mad but highly compassionate genius toymaker in the legendary science fiction film, Blade Runner. And I’m sure many of you younger, more hip types have probably have seen William on True Blood as the down home hard-boiled Sheriff of Bon Temps- Bud Dearborne. This episode of Kettle Of Fish was the first time we had the pleasure of speaking with William, and as a big fan of his work; from Newhart, to Deadwood, to some of his lesser known roles on shows like Lost, and The Practice, it was a huge honor for us to have the opportunity to pick William’s brain for 30 minutes about his many diverse roles in movies, animation, and television.
In this podcast, we(Eirik and Mara) are fresh of the boat at a 3 day visit at the Farnum center in Manchester,NH. Here is what they do:The Farnum Center help people realize their own inner health by coming to an understanding that every human being has a healthy internal core that is fully accessible to them. Everyone has inner resiliency and the ability to bounce back and overcome adversity when we gain perspective of what gets in the way. Their clients learn about your innate capacity for health, insight, and contentment. You will also learn how accessing a healthier perspective about your life will help you leave your past behind. We will guide you through your journey from the day you enter our program until you are ready to leave. Working as a team, you will reclaim your life from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, and become a happier and more positive person. Now, if that doesn't already convey how awesome this center is, we can vouch that it is! In this episode you will hear us dissect some of the insights we gained around addiction, and how that plays into all other "symptoms" we see in the world right now. What we find especially hopeful about their approach to helping people with addiction is:- They look for the health and wisdom in the person, not for what's wrong. - They teach them about how their mind creates their world, and therefore how they can go beyond the situation and circumstance around them. - They teach them how the mind works in such a way that they don't get put off by bad feelings, and therefore don't need to do the drugs or alcohol to help them deal with it. They are able to deal with it internally, by not being afraid of their experience. We feel like this nuggets are HUMAN nuggets, that any human can see more about, and will help everyone in the world. If we all just saw more of those points, we would live in a different world. We hope you enjoy this first introepisode from the two of us - and as we mention the next ones from Farnum Center will be from the staff and clients themselves!!
Episodio 10 : Mister Wu Director Daniel Minahan Casting Jeffrey Jones (A.W.
Episodio 8 : Los niños sufren Guion Elizabeth Sarnoff Casting Jeffrey Jones (A.W.
Episodio 7 : Bullock regresa Director Michael Engler Guion Jody Worth Casting Garret Dillahunt (Jack McCall), Jeffrey Jones (A.W.
Episodio 6 : Plaga Director Davis Guggenheim Guion Malcolm MacRury Casting Jeffrey Jones (A.W.
Episodio 4 : Aquí estuvo un hombre Director Alan Taylor Guionista Elizabeth Sarnoff Castin Gareth Williams, Garret Dillahunt (Jack McCall), Jeffrey Jones (A.W.

This is Part 2 of the chat at Farnum Hill Cider. In this chat, we delve into tasting 7-ciders with the team at Farnum Hill Cider. Steve Woods, whom along with his wife Louisa D. Spencer founded Farnum Hill Ciders, first explains how this tasting, which takes place 3-4 times per week, is conducted. The descriptors fly, laughter follows and somehow despite tasting 7-ciders the team is able to stay on task and get their notes completed as they work towards perfecting their cider. We then head back up to the orchard with Nicole Leibon and Steve to finish our chat from last week. We explore terroir and discuss the cider market. Soon Louisa Spencer arrives to join in and Nicole heads home. This chat is a treasure trove of cider info and a front seat to a chat where we wrangle with what is currently going on with cider, how Farnum Hill is maneuvering the market and misconceptions on cider apples. Topics covered in this chat Will the cider market crash? What can we find out from the craft beer market? What defines Farnum Hill Cider? Should cider be saved for special occasions? This is Part 1 of a two part chat with the founders and cidermakers at Farnum Hill Cider, in Lebanon New Hampshire. The cidery sits on the slope of Farnum Hill. Like many New England orchards and farms there is not necessarily open continuous land, but small acreage here and there, wherein the case of FHC- cider apple trees are planted in large and small fields of 3 to 4 and 20 acres plots. Farnum Hill is highly regarded for their cider, producing select cider apples, and is one of the key tap roots for moving cider out of the back room barns and into the minds of craft libation connoisseurs for the first time post prohibition. (Not that there is anything wrong with "back room barn cider".) Founded by Steve M. Wood and Louisa D. Spencer, the cidery and orchards are what one can call an American Heritage Cidery. Make sure to note during this chat how many scions have passed out of this site and across the US. For this chat, we walked up the hill to the top of the orchard. Steve provides the backdrop of history surrounding the early beginnings of Farnum Hill. Here is a snap shoot of our chat. 1965 - Steve was eleven years old when he started working at the farm.
