Sometimes a chat with your local butcher can lead you down a very curious rabbit hole and that is exactly what happened to this week's returning guest, historian Joy Giguere, on this latest episode of the Ordinary Extraordinary Cemetery podcast. Some history is easy to miss until you know what you're looking for. In the 1920s, a surge of organized intolerance swept through American towns. It showed up in parades, in politics, and in the way some communities marked their dead. This episode traces how that movement tried to make itself permanent, and what the grave markers left behind can still teach us today.Joy has been looking at archival records, historical newspapers, and local histories to understand how extremism became normalized, and in some cases, has been engraved in stone. This episode is heavy. It's important. And it's not ancient history. Content note: This episode discusses historical racism and extremism in the 1920s. It is presented for educational purposes. We do not promote or glorify hate. This episode examines primary sources to understand how organized intolerance functioned in the 1920s.If you have come across grave markers such as we discuss in this episode and you would like to pass the information along to Joy for archival purposes, you can reach her at: jmg66@psu.eduNeed an Ordinary Extraordinary Cemetery Podcast tee, hoodie or mug? Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by 2003 Conn Smythe Trophy winner and former Maple Leaf J-S Giguere. First, Giggy weighs in on Toronto's loss in Montreal, highlighting Joseph Woll's sparkling performance. From there, the conversation shifts to the Leafs' crease situation, where Giguere suggests the team actually has three formidable options moving forward—and that management could consider dealing whichever goalie would bring back the biggest return in a trade this summer. He also likes the idea of Toronto attempting to rebuild on the fly. When asked about what led to the Leafs' downfall this season, Giguere points directly at leadership, noting that at the end of the day players still have to play. He believes Auston Matthews could use more help in leading the team. Giguere also reflects on his time in Toronto, what it was like playing on a losing team, and how he handled difficult situations behind the scenes. Lastly, he touches on the pressure of the Toronto media market and what it's really like to play in the city—something he says he truly enjoyed.#LeafsForever #LeafsMorningTake

Hey, episode 22 is here and it's time to get quackin'!  We're talkin' the Anaheim Ducks, who were still mighty, but started to sorta take themselves seriously with this Cup winning team! Lead by the Bros Neidermeyer and big ol' Chris Pronger and a tidy 'tendy tandem of Giguere and Bryzgalov, this squad was far from fowl.  Upfront, they featured a balanced attack up front featuring Teemu and his bionic knee, plus future Sid-sideman Chris Kunitz and young ducklings Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf!  Plus, who the heck remembers Andy McDonald?!?  They capped off a heckuva year by dispatching the Sens in 5, winning their only cup to date.In the second frame, we recap a busy trade deadline that saw some big names moved, with the Avs somehow coming out with a stronger squad, solidifying their Cup chances.  Plus, Chevy finally made a move, finally shipping out the Stanimal and Luke Schenn. We think it's the smart play, but we're certainly in the minority as the local hockey "experts" seem to think #64 should have been a Jet post-deadline.We also take a look back at our pre-season predictions and see if we could actually see into the future, or if we were simply just wrong again.  All this plus an Upper Deck pack attack and a trio of great tunes!

Cloud security is on an evolutionary path,  with newer platforms embracing secure-by-default settings. This has led to a significant improvement in security but also adds complexity as developers need to understand these defaults when deploying to the cloud.Steve Giguere defines cloud application security, describes cloud-first development and cloud complexity, security by default, and the need to broaden AppSec by creating new security personas and being secure from idea to destination. Steve provides many nuggets of insight from his travels, including pointing us to Wing, a programming language for the cloud that includes code and IaC together. We discuss the consolidation of application security, particularly Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Software Composition Analysis (SCA). These should not be separate products but must provide actionable insights and be tied together for practical reachability analysis. We introduce a new segment of rapid-fire questions, asking about what Steve would put on a billboard at RSA or Blackhat and asking for book recommendations. Steve recommends "Hacking Kubernetes," praising its use-case focus and engaging narrative. We plan to revisit this conversation in a few years to see if Steve's predictions about the security pipeline and other aspects of cloud application security have come to fruition.FOLLOW OUR SOCIAL MEDIA: ➜Twitter: @AppSecPodcast➜LinkedIn: The Application Security Podcast➜YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ApplicationSecurityPodcast Thanks for Listening! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our guest for this episode is Western Massachusetts Climbers Coalition (WMCC) operating director, Stephanie Giguere. Stephanie recently took on this leadership role after spending multiple years as a volunteer with the organization. In the past few years, WMCC has worked through a couple of major projects, securing access to important regional crags like Farley Ledges and Hanging Mountain. Stephanie walks us through some of the finer details of these two projects, which required coordination with private landowners, funding sources, and community support to ensure they succeed. WMCC is a great example of an LCO that's making an incredible contribution to the larger network of nearly 150 local climbing organizations across the country. The knowledge and expertise of local climbers is imperative to the success of sustaining climbing access for the future. 3:10- Stephanie's intro and climbing in Massachusetts 7:30- Stephanie's climbing story 9:30- Climbing history in Western Mass 15:57- Stephanie's role with the WMCC 22:23- Funding an executive director-type position 24:52- WMCC's jurisdiction in MA 27:36- Land management and ownership of climbing areas in the East 30:02- The Farley Ledges project 39:44- Lessons from the Farley Ledges project 44:14- The Hanging Mountain Project 48:23- Funding resources for Hanging Mountain 54:26- Final thoughts WMCC's Instagram: @wmcc_climb_gneiss WMCC's website: https://climbgneiss.org/ Access Color Codes: https://climbgneiss.org/about-color-codes/
