Joe Kresoja is an artist. After art school and studying with master painters, Joe found himself in the field of video games for 30 years, where he worked as an animator, 3D modeler, texture artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and concept artist. But he was seeking something deeper. Joe studied meditation, and with the help of various plant medicines, he recovered from both childhood and adult traumas. Today, his pursuit of peace and tranquility helps him create art unguarded - from an open heart and expanded mind. Tactful color harmony, composition, and mindful brushwork are the tools he uses to create evocative and atmospheric paintings that edge on the divine. Whether it's surrealistic, impressionistic, or psychedelic, his visionary, colorful work is full of the love of himself, others, and all that is. In the end, his desire is that the awareness and love he brings to his paintings sparks you to see yourself and life in a new way. You're used to doing it as a kind gesture around the world but don't tip waiters, taxi drivers, or hotel workers in Japan. When in Italy, don't order a cappuccino after noon. In this episode of All About Capital Campaigns, hosts Amy Eisenstein and Andrea Kihlstedt dive into the delicate art of managing donor expectations when their funding ideas don't align with your organization's mission. Drawing from a real-life scenario, they explore what to do when a wealthy donor offers a significant contribution—but with a catch. The donor's vision, in this case, starting a goat farm in Africa, doesn't match the organization's strategic goals or mission. How do you navigate this complex situation without alienating the donor? Amy and Andrea share practical advice from a discussion with their CEO Roundtable, emphasizing the importance of sticking to your organization's strategic plan while tactfully engaging donors in meaningful conversations. Discover strategies for redirecting donor interests, avoiding mission creep, and preserving relationships—even when the proposed project doesn't fit. Learn how to buy time, leverage your board, and maintain transparency with donors, all while upholding your organization's long-term goals. Key takeaways include: Tactful ways to decline donor proposals that don't align with your mission. How to use your board and strategic priorities as tools to guide conversations. The benefits of redirecting donors to other organizations when their passion projects don't fit. Why generosity and collaboration with donors can lead to stronger, long-term relationships. Andrea and Amy also highlight one of Capital Campaign Pro's innovative services: the monthly CEO Roundtable, where nonprofit leaders from around the globe come together to discuss challenges and solutions related to capital campaigns. While studying at Cornell University, Senior paid his way through school by cleaning buildings at night. By the time he graduated, he and his brother had a fully functioning business. They kept it going, using their parents' basement as the office, and maintained both a positive business model and working environment. After over a decade of cleaning, Senior noticed there was a disconnect between the people who needed the cleaning services and the people providing the services. And so, he took a chance on trying his hand as a consultant, and helped clients find the best companies for their needs. By 1995, Core America completed the transition from cleaning provider to consulting service. More recently, they began offering their own software to aid clients even further. Although the younger Tony always wanted to build his own career identity, his path often overlapped with his father's and uncle's: first, attending Cornell, and eventually moving back to his hometown and joining the family business. As he's risen through the ranks within Core America, Tony has managed to both honor the legacy that the previous generation established, while also moving the company forward with his own unique leadership style and goals. And yes, even after all of these years, the father and son duo still enjoy working together every day. Tune into this episode to hear Paul and the two Tonys discuss their family business dynamic, how they carefully transitioned the leadership from one generation to the next, and how they went about rediscovering Core America's culture. Show Notes: 5:10 - The beginnings of Core America 15:25 - Brought up in a family business 23:55 - Tactful transitions 28:15 - Rediscovering the culture 32:44 - Looking ahead
Bestie if you are having a bad day, PLAY THIS EPISODE. I recorded this podcast episode with bad days in mind and how we can navigate them together. Especially as we are now a few weeks into 2024, I felt like this is so relevant as the excitement of the new year might have since slowed down and reality is starting to settle. I share in this episode, that the contrast between good/bad and the highs/lows is what makes up the entire human experience. Nonetheless, it can be so hard when you're in the middle of a crap storm to see the light at the end of the tunnel. DON'T YOU WORRY because that's what the gay bestie is HERE FOR. In this episode, I give you some tactful questions and advice that you can apply so that you can slow your forking roll, take a deep breath, and freaking WOO SAAHHH LOL. I cannot wait to hear what you think, bestie! Let's connect!

It's the season of terror, and there's no greater proof than the events of the past week or so. Death, injury, and apparently a lot of very haunted locations. The traditional defense against these things is to eat a lot of candy and watch faux-scary movies. So you'd better get to it. In the first hour, SKOR North's Phil Mackey talks about what's next for the Vikings after Kirk Cousins' season, and KSTP's Chris Egert on the death of Hibbing native Adam Johnson while playing pro hockey over in the UK and the deadline for submissions to be Minnesota's new state flag. Hour #2 has Bob Sansevere on the Vikings win over the Packers and the QB outlook in a post-Kirk Cousins world. In hour #3 we start out spooky with the creepiest places in select states - namely, the ones bordering Minnesota. Also Florida. You know what else is creepy? Infidelity. So let's call out the professions most likely to commit it. And speaking of uncomfortably realistic fears, Kristyn Burtt discusses the death of Matthew Perry. Or more accurately, she doesn't discuss it, because we're still waiting for more information. On the Family, Costaki laments the Greek tragedy that is the state of NFL quarterbacks. We do, however, learn that he's the father of a half-witch, so that's pretty cool. 00:00 - IntroductionThat's a frickin' cookie. We could do an entire episode on the beautiful construction of the cookie we're eating. Shoutout to The Cookie Company in Milledgeville, Georgia. (Also, sorry, Mom, for talking with our mouths full).4:00 - The Crystal Palace - BackgroundWe review the steps that lead to the construction of the Crystal Palace. In 1840, a guy named Henry Cole suggested that England should host a huge event to encourage industrial innovation. He was able to get Prince Albert on board and then Queen Victoria, who put together a council to plan the event. For some reason, they set a target date that would give them less than a year and a half to design and build the structure that would host the event. After issuing a call for designs, the council decided that not a single one of the 245 submissions was acceptable. 8:42 - Joseph PaxtonOut of nowhere comes the respected architect Joseph Paxton. Wait, did we say architect? Nope. He was a respected gardener. He had designed a massive greenhouse that had caught the queen's attention.Paxton was clearly a man of varied interests. (If you're interested in checking Eddie's banana claims, you're welcome to explore this site.) Here are the specs of the building that Paxton designed:1851 feet long (apparently in celebration of the year) by 120 wide and 34 high-App. 1 million square feet of glass-3300 Columns-2224 Main Beams-20+ miles of wooden gutters-3800 tons of cast iron (poured into a mold)-700 tons of wrought iron (worked into shape with tools)-Cost: 80,000 pounds - Fully funded by public donations (including a few substantial gifts from the royal family)-27' tall crystal fountain (the first glass fountain of any substantial size)By the time Paxton's design was approved, he had 9 months to complete the construction. He completed it in 5 months. 14:26 - Materials, Technologies, and a MoveThe Crystal Palace included elements that were at the cutting edge for their time. One of those was glass in large panes. Check out this video to see what was involved in producing these. A specially designed wheeled cart enabled workers to install 18,000 panes of glass every week. After the exposition, the building is taken down piece by piece and rebuilt in Sydenham but with a significantly modified design. (See photos of the reconstruction.)19:42 - Reflections and TakeawaysWe spend some time talking about things we might be able to learn from the Crystal Palace project. Here are a few of our thoughts:-This project was designed and managed by a person with little or no construction training. Construction experience is important, but people skills are just as important. Common sense goes a long way.-Tactful self-promotion–salesmanship–is also important.-The public rallies behind big projects. The Crystal Palace was funded by donations from the public.-It's important to innovate with materials.-Coming to the table with fresh eyes can lead to innovation.-Focus, sheer determination, and solid deadlines can really motivate.-The constraints we put on ourselves might sometimes be the greatest constraints we face. -Innovation breeds innovation.Explore a few photos of the Crystal Palace:-Architectuul.com -Variety of Pinterest collections (the Crystal Palace and the Great Exhibition)-Photos of the reconstructionLee Evey Episodes:At a couple points in this episode, Tyler refers to two Construction Brothers episodes featuring Lee Evey, who was the program manager for the 1997 renovation of the Pentagon in Washington, DC. It was on a swing set in the 5th grade that Joe was deciding whether to be an artist or a musician. He chose art. Years later, after art school and studying with master painters, he found himself in the field of video games. He excelled in many roles such as animator, 3d modeler, texture artist, graphic designer, illustrator and concept artist. He spent roughly 30 years in a field he never felt like he belonged in. There was no true passion for video games nor the popular culture they represented for him. But along the way, he continued to study traditional mediums, painting from both life and his imagination, seeing both as equally important skills. Joe also had immense interest in the more esoteric areas of psychology and personal development. He has studied many forms and disciplines of meditation, adopting and adapting from various styles and types he learned in meditation retreats and courses on his journey of self discovery. With the help of various plant medicines, he recovered from both childhood and adult traumas. Joe has always been willing and able to dive deep. With breakthroughs in limiting beliefs, Joe's view is that one has to change and grow beyond the confines of culture and the validation of those around you. The balance of peace and tranquility in his life is the starting point. Creating from an open heart and expanded mind, Joe's approach is to paint as unguarded as he is able. This is the place he chooses to create from. Tactful color harmony, composition, and mindful brushwork are the tools he uses to create evocative and atmospheric paintings that edge on the divine. Whether it's surrealistic, impressionistic, or psychedelic, his visionary, colorful work is full of the love of himself, others and all that is. In the end, his desire is that the awareness and love he brings to his paintings sparks you to see yourself and life in a new way.
