Abstract: Global effects of FBA are generally limited to stimuli sharing the same or similar features, as hypothesized in the "feature-similarity gain model". Visual perception, however, often reflects categories acquired via experience; whether the global-FBA effect can be induced by the categorized features remains unclear. Here human subjects were trained to classify motion-directions into two discrete categories and performed a classical motion-based attention task. We found a category-induced global-FBA effect in both the MT+ and frontoparietal areas, where attention to a motion-direction globally spread to unattended motion-directions within the same category, but not to those in a different category. Effective connectivity analysis showed that the category-induced global-FBA effect in MT+ was derived by feedback from the IFJ. Altogether, our results reveal for the first time a category-induced global-FBA effect and identify a source for this effect in human prefrontal cortex, implying that FBA is of greater ecological significance than previously thought. We often think “the stock market” is synonymous with Wall Street. Stressed out stockbrokers yelling and wearing blazers. New York City. Right? Not necessarily. There are other stock markets all around the world, and they all have different degrees of influence on everything else. That’s how a global economy works. And that’s what Dustin and Joseph discuss in this new episode. Dustin explained that he thinks of the world market, but most people typically refer to the S&P 500, aka Standard & Poor’s 500.  The S&P 500 is one index of the biggest, most well-known companies in the world, many of which are headquartered in tiny little New York City. But while we might think of the S&P as an American stock index, it’s made up of multinational corporations.  Can you still call a company “American” when it makes money all over the globe? Here’s an example.  Dustin asked Joseph, “Is McDonald’s an American company?” We think of it as one because it was founded in America. And, well, burgers seem to be as American as baseball and apple pie.  But if we use sales to figure out that question...our answer might look a little different.  What percentage of the McDonald’s revenue is American? According to a brochure Dustin found from ten years ago, it was 34 percent. The rest was foreign sales. The same stats for Coca-Cola? Just 25 percent of their revenue was American!  As the global economy grows stronger and we become even more interconnected, we’re sure those numbers are even lower today.  How to picture the global economy Here’s how you can envision the way the global economy works: imagine that you’re standing in a circle with five other people, holding hands. The person to your right tugs on your hand. You feel it, right? If they pull hard enough, you might even stumble and fall. Now, imagine the person across from you does the same thing with their neighbor. You don’t directly feel it on your hand, but you do feel that movement ripple throughout the group. If they yank hard enough, their neighbor may fall. And the person next to them might be taken down, too. Pull hard enough, cause enough damage, and everyone in the circle might end up on the ground in a big heap. We want other countries to do well in a global economy, because what happens in one country affects the rest of us. The 2008 financial crisis, for example, started in the U.S., but its effects were felt worldwide. We know you’re probably tired of this phrase, but it applies to the global economy, too. Dr. Steve Luby is a communicable disease epidemiologist who joins the show to discuss his work over the years, as well as provide insight on the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, you will discover: How low-income countries with a high population density are being affected by COVID-19 In what ways and what countries strict lockdown measures have actually resulted in more deaths, directly and indirectly Why the COVID-19 pandemic might change the way politicians think about infectious diseases, and how it will shape the future of economic and global health Unlike many communicable disease epidemiologists, Dr. Luby spent a long time living in low-income countries including Pakistan and Bangladesh with the goal of seeing problems firsthand before trying to sort out how to address them, and identifying opportunities to make a difference. Through this experience, Dr. Luby gained unique insight into the patterns of infectious diseases and transmission in different areas of the world. He uses the current COVID-19 pandemic as an example of such patterns, explaining that the high population density in areas like Bangladesh make social distancing measures impossible, and encourage the efficiency of infectious diseases like COVID-19. The result?  It's tragic in the short term, he explains, but in the long-term it will result in fewer people in the area remaining susceptible to the virus. By virtue of the virus moving through these areas so quickly, these areas are likely to normalize a lot sooner than the US and other high-income countries where better medical infrastructure exists and social distancing measures are possible. This commentary on Trickster, Holy Trickster, Divine Trickster, Seduction Trickster, Physcial Trickster, Tribal Trickster and Supreme Trickster and the Global Effects,  has been in the making for over 19 years.  Through many different eyes and paths, have I witnessed the coming and goings of trickster and coyote among the people on the planet.  Some I learned firsthand and barely escaped with my soul still intact.  Others I witnessed as they fell or flew directly into the abyss without a second glance.  Over these years it has been brought to my attention more than once that there are eagles out there flying and they seem to be molting in mid air.  Meaning, their feathers seem to be dropping and their flight path is not as smooth as it once was.  And in some cases they are missing in action. MIA's of the eagle kind. There was a time when the gathering of eagles was a priority so that unison of purpose would have a better chance of manifesting.  But as I witnessed the trickster energy being allowed to play on the planet without any guidelines, none whatsoever, and beings just set about allowing everything to play, then it wasn't too long until the chaos started to effect the eagles in bird form and in human form.  It is with this notice that I finally have terminated all of the revisions of this written commentary on trickster and finally send it out to those that can see through my eyes and can hear the message written in their own language of discernment.
