The event will bring together a broad range of individuals, communities, local authorities, and organisations, all united in their efforts to address climate change. It will provide a platform for both newcomers and those already engaged in sustainability initiatives to network, share ideas, and collaborate. The conference will feature keynotes and presentations from a diverse group of speakers. Senator Malcolm Noonan, Green Party Senator, will deliver the keynote address on Restoring Nature as a Climate Action. Robert Mooney from the Department of Environment, Climate & Communication will discuss code signing Pathways to a Carbon Neutral Ireland through the National Dialogue on Climate Action. Elina Bardram, Director for Adaptation & Resilience, Communication, and Civil Society Relations, will also be delivering a message from DG CLIMA. For example, Dr Lydia Cumiskey, Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the MaREI Centre, UCC, will share creative solutions for climate resilience, focusing on co-creating change with flood-affected communities. Dr Laura Kirwan, Sustainability Lead at Nutritics, will discuss improving efficiency and sustainability in food service and how the Foodprint Tool is transforming operations. Lydia Cuminsky, Climate Pact Ambassador, highlighted the importance of local action, saying: "As an engaged researcher, the EU Climate Pact Conference is an opportunity to connect with people interacting daily with communities around climate action. "I'm looking forward to sharing creative outputs from the Creative Ireland funded BluePrint project which highlight the power of creative and artistic processes bridging arts, science and government, for amplifying the voices and lived-experiences of flood affected communities while bridging connections with policymakers and building local capacity to strengthen climate resilience." The EU Climate Pact, which is part of the European Green Deal, is a grassroots initiative aimed at uniting individuals and groups across Europe in the fight against climate change. This conference is a vital step in furthering this movement and encouraging more sustainable practices across Ireland. See more stories here. It's claimed the lack of school guidance counsellors in Clare is severely hindering the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. The Irish Institute of Guidance Counsellors has issued their pre-budget submission calling for the government to employ a suite of measures aimed at tackling a national crisis. Among the key components of the IGCs pre budget submission are calls for an urgent review of the national supply of guidance counsellors and a ringfenced allocation of hours for each and every pupil. Prior to the abolishment of the ex-quota system, secondary schools were guaranteed a minimum of 22 hours of guidance counsellor support each week. Under the current arrangements, the hours are now distributed at the discretion of the principal. However, a survey carried out this year by IGC found that just 4% of members had the full 22 hours available to them to carry out essential duties such as career advice and one on one clinics. Inagh, Green Party Senator, Roisín Garvey says Guidance Counsellors are at the frontline of a mental health crisis and need to be available to engage with students. A Clare Guidance Counsellor believes a dedicated point of contact is required for all schools in the event of crisis management. There is just one counsellor for every 453 secondary school students nationwide, while over 10% of those qualified in the profession are currently out of practice. Last year meanwhile, Clare's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service dealt with 412 referrals. Guidance Counsellor at Kilrush Community School, Aisling Haugh says teaching commitments can often clash with the duties of a counsellor and that structures need to be introduced to ensure young people are never left behind in their moment of need.

Around one in 65 people in Ireland are living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and combat daily obstacles such as noise sensitivity, mood instability and sensory issues. Inagh based Green Party Senator, Roisín Garvey says society needs to adapt to the needs of all disabled persons.

Clare's Green Party Senator says it's too early to say targets in the National Retrofit Programme will be missed. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) told the Oireachtas Committee on the Environment and Climate Action this week that many suppliers involved in the plan are reporting difficulties in securing labour. So far this year, 36,000 applications were received by the SEAI across all schemes, with approximately 28,800 homes being retrofitted. Inagh-based Green Party Senator, Róisín Garvey, insists that the target to have half a million homes retrofitted by 2030 must still be the aim and that each year will see an increase in the number of people qualified to carry out the works.

New Minister for State and Green Party Senator, Pippa Hackett, seems to be in quite a rush to get her new Bill through at a time when there is little or no oversight and not enough time for a proper public consultation. Attract outlines what this all means and puts into context why it matters to everyone, whether your in Dingle or Donegal. This podcast is also a call to action.
