Send us Fan MailThe next lockdown won't arrive with a neat countdown clock, and you won't get a week to “go prep.” You'll get a headline, a rush on stores, and then empty shelves in about 72 hours. I'm walking through what actually happened in March 2020 from a supply-chain perspective, why the system didn't truly “run out” of food but still failed at the last mile, and what that teaches us about building a real buffer at home before the next disruption hits. We also talk about the messier side of what 2020 did to people's trust. I go full tinfoil hat for a stretch and lay out why so many Americans feel they were misled, pressured, and censored, and why that matters for practical preparedness. Lower institutional trust changes everything next time: compliance drops, enforcement rises, social tension spikes sooner, and panic buying accelerates. Add how much more digital our lives have become since 2020 and you've got a bigger risk surface, especially if a cyber attack or infrastructure disruption stacks on top of a public health event. Then we get concrete. I lay out a simple 30-day lockdown readiness plan: the pantry method for real food (not just buckets), water storage and filtration, 90 days of prescriptions if you can swing it, cash on hand in small bills, and fuel habits that keep you mobile when stations get mobbed. We also cover the overlooked essentials like boredom-proof entertainment, basic home security, and why a small trusted community network beats a bunker full of gear. If this helped, subscribe, share it with a friend who keeps saying “that'll never happen again,” and drop a review so more people build their buffer before the next announcement.https://augasonfarms.com?sca_ref=9315862.VpHzogdDNuAugason FarmsSupport the podcast. Edtech Throwdown Episode 220: 8 Lesson Ideas Inspired by Video GamesWelcome to the EdTech Throwdown. This is Episode 220 called 8 Lesson Ideas Inspired by Video Games. In this episode we'll break down some ways that you can leverage video games for creative lesson ideas. This can be a fun way to make your class more engaging and encourage student buy-in. This is another episode you don't want to miss, check it out.Segment 1:What might some of our listeners have more time for in the summer? Video games! I don't play them. Does Guise?Segment 2:Video Game Map Choice Boards: Use video game maps as a choice board template. Here is asampleusing FORTNITE as a Digital Menu. Set up the tech any way you like, I would probably do Google Slides transparent elements that link out to other places. The Battle Pass Grading Scheme:Change up the grading scheme. Instead of a traditional grading sheet, give students a "Battle Pass" tracker. Completing mandatory tasks earns them "XP" (points) to level up. Offer "Weekly Challenges" (optional bonus questions or creative projects) that unlock cosmetic rewards, like choosing the classroom music, getting a digital badge, or earning a "skip one homework assignment" voucher.Among Us: "Spot the Impostor" Source Analysis. This activity turns critical thinking, debate, and fact-checking into a high-stakes deduction game. How it Works: Divide students into small groups and hand them a packet of information—such as four short summaries of a historical event, four scientific claims, or four math equations worked out step-by-step. Among the real data, there is one Impostor (a text containing a historical fallacy, a grammatical error, misinformation, or a math mistake). Students must complete "tasks" (analyze the text) and call an Emergency Meeting to debate which source is "sus." To vote a source out, they must back up their claim with textual evidence or proof.Fortnite Inspired Room Escapes. The setting for this fun room escape is Fortnite. Create this using any video game and any digital template you prefer. Here is a oneon Greek Mythology available for purchase that inspired this idea.Minecraft Education Edition for biome creation. In Minecraft, a biome is a distinct geographical region within a world that features its own unique terrain, climate, vegetation, and colors. Biomes determine what resources you can gather, which animals (mobs) will spawn naturally, and even whether it rains or snows.Animal Crossinginspired town building activity. Island Design: Students are given a blank grid sheet to map out their own "Island Community." They must decide where to put public spaces, businesses, and residential zones. The Bell Economy: Introduce a classroom currency ("Bells"). Students earn Bells for completing assignments or displaying good citizenship. They must budget their Bells to buy "furniture" or upgrades for their paper island (e.g., printable stickers of trees, bridges, or buildings). Town Ordinances: Introduce civics by letting the class vote on a weekly "Town Ordinance"—a classroom rule that everyone must follow (like "Friendly Friday" where every desk transition requires a high-five).Narrative writing with a video game twist. Students do a traditional paper and pencil narrative writing assignment, but about a video game of their choice. Then use Canva book cover templates and Magic Media AI to edit the template to match their video game inspired story. Here is a samplefrom the Merrils where Canva was used to create a video game cover after a narrative writing assignment.Pokémon: "Evolutionary" Adaptation Trading Cards: Two different content approaches here, one for science and one for ELAIn Science: Students choose a real-life animal and design a three-stage "Evolutionary Line" card game deck based on its lineage (e.g., an ancient ancestor, a prehistoric link, and the modern animal). They list its "Type" (habitat), "HP" (population status), and "Attacks" (physical or behavioral adaptations). In ELA: Students create trading cards for characters in a novel. A character's "Stats" (such as Bravery, Empathy, or Wisdom) change as they grow. When a character hits a major turning point in the plot, they "evolve" into a new card stage with updated stats and an altered description.Edtech Throwdown: Vote on twitter @edtechthrowdown and under the pinned post on the profile.Segment 3: Where to Find EdTech ThrowdownDo us a few favors:Subscribe to the Edtech Throwdown PodcastApple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon PodcastsStitcher YouTube Twitter FacebookWrite us an Apple Podcast Review!Tell your friends aboutwww.edtechthrowdown.comTell your friends about the Teach Better Podcast Network
Join our WhatsApp group for weekly exclusive content: https://chat.whatsapp.com/FEgoaCOQoyU2VX49SwA8Aw?s=cl&p=a&ilr=4 George Mandel-Mantello was one man on his own, a Jew living in Switzerland, who ignited an international outcry against the destruction of Hungary's Jewish community and stopped the deportation of the last 250,000 Jews. Mantello's weapon was not a gun or an army — it was information. With extraordinary courage and ingenuity, he forged papers, sent a courier into Hungary to gather first-hand reports about Auschwitz and forced the allies to react. But for decades afterwards, the actions of this saviour were deliberately minimised and censored. Meanwhile in nearby Germany, the brother of the highest ranking member of the SS, was helping Jews escape the Nazi inferno. His courage also went unheralded for many years. Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber react to the Giants locker room conversation surrounding Jaxson Dart, Abdul Carter and the political noise that suddenly resurfaced around the team. What first seemed like a small controversy has become a bigger question about leadership, leaks and whether the Giants can keep outside distractions from taking attention away from football. Evan and Tiki discuss why the issue may have been addressed internally, how John Harbaugh could handle questions about it, and why a modern locker room has to navigate different personalities, politics and public comments. They also debate whether this is truly a problem for the Giants or just noise that will only matter if the team fails to win.

PREVIEW: European Allies Consider 'Drone Wall' Amid Russian Harassment and Political Confusion Guest:Mary Kissel The discussion between John Batchelor and Mary Kissel centers on an extraordinary emergency meeting held in Copenhagen by the EU and NATO—not including the US—to address repeated harassment by drones presumed to be launched by Russia. The allies are discussing creating a "drone wall." Mary Kissel emphasizes that the purpose of Russia's actions is to exploit vulnerabilities and create "uncertainty, confusion, deterrence." When President Putin observes Europe from Moscow, he sees nations with "weaker defense capabilities, weaker ties to Washington, and weaker political systems." Specifically, many governments, such as those in Germany, Belgium, and France, are weak, noting that the French government recently collapsed after less than a month. Mary Kissel quotes her colleague, Tom Tugendhat, outlining Russia's aggressive actions in the UK alone, which include using chemical weapons, nuclear poisons, committing sabotage, attempting espionage, and threatening nuclear attack. Ultimately, the goal of Russia's "poking and prodding" is to gauge the reaction of these nations and see if they will implement the drone wall or respond with "just words."
