Where Is Your Treasure? A Reflection on Matthew 6:19-21 It's been a while since I shared my thoughts from the pulpit, but today, I want to revisit a sermon I preached back in 2011. This time, I've refreshed and expanded on the message, focusing on a critical question: Where is your treasure? The Heart of the Matter: Matthew 6:19-21 Let's begin with a familiar passage from the Sermon on the Mount: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” — Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) These verses challenge us to consider the nature of our treasures. Are we investing in earthly possessions that will fade away, or are we focusing on treasures that hold eternal significance? The Parable of the Talents In Matthew 25, the Parable of the Talents illustrates our responsibility as stewards of God's gifts. We are called to multiply what God has given us for His glory. This raises a crucial question: Do we recognize that all our resources belong to God? The Call to Stewardship Stewardship is about being faithful with what we have. As Luke 16:10 states: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Our actions, both big and small, reflect our faithfulness. In 2 Corinthians 5:10, we are reminded that we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account of our stewardship. The Futility of Earthly Treasures Reflecting on earthly treasures, we can easily see their transient nature. Moths, rust, and thieves are constant reminders of the vulnerability of our material possessions. Here are some key points to consider: Material Wealth: Money, cars, homes, and possessions can provide temporary happiness but ultimately cannot be taken with us. Identity and Reputation: Our status and how others perceive us can sometimes lead us to seek validation through earthly means, which can be fleeting. Hypocrisy: Are we living authentically, or are we merely playing a role to impress others? The Second Law of Thermodynamics Interestingly, the second law of thermodynamics states that disorder tends to increase over time. This principle can be seen in our lives as well. Without intentionality, our earthly treasures will deteriorate, and our focus can shift away from what truly matters. Treasures in Heaven: How to Invest Wisely So, how do we lay up treasures in heaven? Here are some practical steps: Honor God with Your Wealth: As Proverbs 3:9-10 suggests, honoring God with our resources is vital. Be Generous: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 encourages us to be rich in good works and generous in sharing. Invest in Relationships: Building godly relationships and investing in others is a way to lay up treasures in heaven. Our children, for instance, are a significant part of this investment. The Importance of Connection Recently, I've noticed how the pandemic has changed our interactions. In a world where eye contact has become rare, I took the opportunity to engage with those around me while waiting in line at the grocery store. I struck up conversations with older individuals, and their gratitude for the simple act of chatting reminded me that many people crave connection. This experience reinforced the idea that we can lay up treasures in heaven by truly relating to others. Here are some ways to foster those connections: Take Time to Talk: Don't underestimate the power of a simple conversation. A few kind words can uplift someone's day. Be Present: Make an effort to look people in the eye and engage with them; it shows that you value them as individuals. Serve Others: Acts of kindness, whether small or large, can create ripples of goodwill and build lasting relationships. The Importance of Our Children As we reflect on laying up treasures, it's essential to recognize our children as invaluable assets in God's kingdom. They are like arrows in the hands of a warrior (Psalm 127:3-5), capable of making a lasting impact. Building the Next Generation Investing in our children's spiritual growth through programs like Adventure Club can help teach them sound doctrine and scripture. This investment not only benefits them but also builds a foundation for future generations. Conclusion: Shifting Our Focus In closing, let us remember the example of Christ, who spent His life serving others rather than focusing on Himself. By shifting our focus outward and investing in relationships, we can lay up treasures in heaven. What practical steps can you take this week to ensure your treasures are stored in heaven? Share your thoughts and ideas in the comments below! https://transcript.lol/read/generic/unknown/670d3047ddbb995e375ecea7

Sunday Morning, August 13, 2023Getting an "A+" from Heaven: How is your Heartbeat? ... Matthew 5:8A message delivered by Pastor, Richard Fleming
I greet you warmly in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, 20 November 2022, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.“The Lord is my light and my salvation;Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life;Of whom shall I be afraid?”Psalm 27:1What a beautiful reassurance!“The Lord is my helper;I will not fear. What can man do to me?”Hebrews 13:6And then Romans 8:31:"if Christ be for us then who can stand against us?"What a blessed assurance we have! If we live, we live for Christ, if we die, we go to Heaven - How can you frighten a Christian with Heaven! In Philippians 1:21, Paul says:“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”You can't frighten a Christian with Heaven, the only thing we need to fear is fear itself. Fear comes from satan, it comes from the pit of hell. 2 Timothy 1:7, the Lord says:“I have not given you a spirit of fear but of power, of love and of a sound mind.”The devil is trying to make us afraid with his lies. He is like a little mouse running around with a loud-hailer making us scared. The devil is a thief and a deceiver - That is all he is!“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” But Jesus said, “I came to give you life, abundantly.” John 10:10I remember clearly, as a small, little boy, going to watch a huge rugby final, a rugby match with my dad. Walking into the crowded grandstands with all these huge, excited men, some drinking beer, some very raucous it was quite overwhelming for a little boy of 5 or 6 years old. Then, all of a sudden, I felt the huge powerful hand of the blacksmith gently squeeze my little hand and say, “Its okay son, don't worry, I have got you.”Maybe you are feeling afraid today with everything that is taking place in your life. Jesus says, “Don't worry, I have got you!” Have a wonderful Sunday,God bless you and goodbye.

We live our lives each day typically for ourselves, do we not? I mean, with work, and family, and health, and finances, and the present, and the future, and the direction of our lives – we're either being reactionary, or we're being proactive. We suffer daily. In some way, we suffer daily; some, more than others. Our suffering does not compare to the suffering that Jesus endured. But we, just like Him, endure betrayal, false accusations, rejection, abuse, and humiliation. It's part of the dark and distorted world we live in. Question is, if we're suffering that for us, and keep pressing forward, why are we not as willing to suffer for Him? Is it because He is unworthy to suffer for? Is it because we don't need to suffer for His name's sake? Is it because we have a “Me first” attitude toward life? Is it because we just don't know what to do or what is expected of us? Is it because we have formed a “comfort bubble” around our homes and selves that shield and protect us from the outside influences and the spiritual darkness and forces that we fight against, as the Bible states? WHAT IS IT? Here's the answer: It's all of it and more. Some hold true to many, some hold true to some, but there is a reason, whether or not its conscious or subconscious – regardless, it has the same outcome, which is, we are not willing to suffer for Christ as we our for our own selves. We're placing ourselves and our needs and wants higher than the will of the Father. We've become our own idols. Yeah, it does sound harsh and mean, doesn't it? Some of you are shaking your heads right now saying, “Nope! That's not me – never was and never will be,” right? In response to those that are, answer me this question….better yet, answer this question to our Father in Heaven: “HOW are you suffering for Christ?” What is it that YOU do to work for the will of the Father that you sacrifice your life and happiness, time, energy, resources, and self for? WHAT is it that shows your faith, other than praying, reading the Bible, and going to church? What is it that you do to adhere to Jesus' calling for all his followers, known as the Great Commission – to spread the good news of the gospel and Him? WHAT DO YOU DO? To those of us who take action and place him higher than ourselves and our lives here on Earth, the actions we take are out of love for Him, out of our faith that produces works, and our need to help lead others to Christ – not simply out of love for Him, but love for our neighbors, as well….the two most important commandments of anyone that can be called a Christian, per Jesus Himself. These actions alone lead us to suffering. These works from faith and love produce endurance, but also produce an earthly amount of suffering.

United States Senate Chaplain Barry Black, author ofMake Your Voice Heard in Heaven: How to Pray with Power, explains to Dr. James Dobson that believers must pray with purity. Isaiah 59 warns that Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. Chaplain Black counsels us to repent of our sins before God. Only then, as Hebrews 4 declares, can we draw near to the throne of grace with confidence.

Let's get started today with the podcast episode. Today we're talking about calling and business, your calling, and your business. And this is something that I know a lot about because I used to struggle with that. You let me know if this is something that you used to struggle with, or you still struggle with today. Often times we feel that we have to choose one or the other, “Oh my God, I have to be all about the business, and I cannot mix my faith with my business.” Actually, one of my first coaches told me that, “Catherine, I can tell that you feel very strongly about this faith thing, but you might want to tone down that Jesus talk and you might have to, you might not want to tell people that you're a Christian. Like just keep it on the down low and it just didn't feel right, but I didn't know how to, how to successfully incorporate my business and my ministry. I'm just straight talk. I'm telling you what happened. So, for years I had this dance where I will be too churchy, too Christian, if you will, or too businessy and I couldn't figure it out how to put them together. Like I struggle and I didn't have any leaders in my life at the time that could model it for me or even help me in my quest to be a kingdompreneur. I just didn't have that and eventually, I just went to God and said, “Listen, I need help. Can you send me somebody, anybody that can help me match this thing, marry this thing?” Because my heart's desire is that I can be authentic. I don't have to hit people over the head with my faith. I don't have to be churchy, but I want to be authentic. I want to be the type of person that when you meet me, you're like, “Oh my God, you sound exactly the same. You look exactly the same. You talk exactly the same because it’s real because it is authentic.” Does that make sense? So, you know what God said, He dropped it in my spirit, and I was not happy about this. But this is the way God works. He said, “I'm going to teach you so you can teach other people.” I was like, “Come on!” I was waiting for somebody else to show me. But you know, this is how He rolls, this is what we're going to do. And that's how the book A Match Made in Heaven: How to Marry.< --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/catherinestoring/message

Overview – Jesus Is THEEE Christ. 1 John 2:18-23. In my message today we study the words of John on the full proof way to know for sure, who is an antichrist, or false prophet, and a liar according to the Christian faith. Jesus said in Matthew 24:11 that many false prophets will rise up and deceive many, in speaking of the many people who would come in the last days, and believe and teach teachings that went against His own teachings, also known as antichrist teachings. Now the Bible speaks LOUD and clear that there is only ONE Christ, and ONE way to Heaven, and that this ONE way, and One Christ is the Jesus of the New Testament of the Bible, who lived on earth almost 2,000 years ago. What does John have to say about those who believe that there are other ways, or many ways to Heaven? How do we know that Jesus really was THEEE Christ? Come take a listen and find out the answers to these questions in my sermon titled, “Jesus Is THEEE Christ”. May God bless you richly, as you deeply seek Him Pastor Ed
