When I think of Halloween, I'm reminded of my childhood. Decorating the house with my family, counting the days until I got to wear my Halloween costume, and imagining what mysteries resided just beyond my reality. It's always been a special time for me, almost as if I'm connected to it, but in a way that I don't fully understand. As I've gotten older, my appreciation for this season has continued to grow, and evolve. Maybe it's because I have a better understanding of its importance, or maybe it's because I have a deeper respect for the strangeness that permeates every aspect of our world. Either way, I see Halloween as a reminder to appreciate that strangeness, and to embrace what we don't understand. So tonight, I'd like to celebrate Halloween by bringing you several different experiences that cover a variety of phenomena. Experiences that are, most definitely, Paranormal Mysteries. Let me just get this out of the way: The annual opening of HellsGate is one of my most anticipated events of the year. The immersive, engaging haunt is world class, and I leave there smiling and giddy every year. For this episode, I brought longtime friend/colleague Tim Virgin (94.7 WLS, Q101, WLUP, etc.) to experience HellsGate with me. After our journey, we were joined in the car by HellsGate founder/owner John LaFlamboy. Tim and I share our thoughts and favorite moments from our visit, and John puts everything in context. We dig into the finer details of operating HellsGate, as well as the creative spirit that guides it. HellsGate provides one of the most entertaining, memorable experiences you'll have this year. Make a point of getting there before it gets swallowed back into hell in November. Car Con Carne is presented by Alex Ross Art. Make sure to visit Alex's booth at the New York Comic Con (October 12-15, 2023)! Car Con Carne is also sponsored by In the Loop Magazine: When you're a world-class music city like Chicago, there's so much happening that it can be almost overwhelming—that's where In the Loop Magazine comes in. Producer for the John Landecker show Breandan Rook HATES haunted houses. Somehow he ended up at HellsGate Haunted House and was terrified of it. However, it was a lot of fun! A really great haunted house. 10 out of 10 skeletons! Check out the segment and check out the haunt on their website here!
It was the best of haunts, it was the worst of haunts. Actually, it's bedtime, cuz the Ghouls are wiped TF out from a weekend of pure terror and suspense. On the pod this week, Grace and Caroline recount all the horror, ghosts and jump scares they witnessed during their back-to-back trips to two infamous Chicagoland Halloween destinations: The Old Joliet Haunted Prison and HellsGate. They also interview a duo of incredible haunt actors about the craziest reactions they've seen on the job, talk though the (literal) torture that guests of XXX-treme haunted houses like McKamey Manor and Heretic Horror House go through, and swap disturbing stories about why fake hanging stunts are the absolute worst idea. Sponsored by noted bicon/vintage hottie Marlon Brando and his extensive collection of self-made erotica, this episode will take you to Joliet and back (twice). This week, Sparkie and Thomas head to Arlington, Texas to discuss the urban legends of the River Legacy Park area. This place has mega bad vibes. Buckle up, Teddy! Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their journey through every Undertaker PPV match as they hop in the backseat of this time-traveling hearse for a trip to the World Title rematch between Taker and CM Punk inside Satan's Structure at Hell In A Cell 2009! It's the first ever Hell In A Cell PPV, all based on a match The Undertaker put on the map. So why is The Demon Of Death Valley going on first in a 10 minute match? We'll discuss all the reasons why this match (and this PPV concept) never really get off the ground. But before we get there we're covering one of the most absurd and memorable moments in The Undertaker's history as he abducts Teddy Long to get his revenge from the Breaking Point Screwjob - it's so ridiculous it's amazing! Plus we'll also cover Teddy's bizarre explanation for his actions, the un-banning of the Hell's Gate, giving away this match on free tv, the continuing and confusing saga of Mr. McMahon's picture, the redebut of Drew McIntyre, the absolutely bonkers Smackdown Tenth Anniversary, Eric Escobar, Santino's Undertaker impression, The Rock getting involved in this rivalry, Emperor Palpatine narrating the PPV open, the historic significance of Undertaker's title win at this show, and so much more. In this episode we visited Hell's Gate in Corona, CA ..... Creepy things happened to us including a lot of interference with our microphones.... Up in the hills of Corona on a dead end street there is an old signal tower. Past that, a small trail leads you to a walkway and a burn site. The story is… there was a house that stood there in the 80’s. Two parents lived there along with two children. One weekend the parents decided to go on vacation and hire a nanny to watch the kids. It is said that Satan possessed the nanny to lock the children in the basement. Later that night, the house burned down with all three people in it. Strange happenings occur such as cold spots, items moving from the time you travel up the trail to the time you travel back, and toys appearing and disappearing in the basement. On April 10th 2001, a home in Scottsdale Arizona exploded into flames. Hours after extinguishing the fire, investigators make a horrifying discovery, the badly burned bodies of 2 children and their mother- it is immediately evident to detectives they did not perish in the blaze. Missing from the scene is the family patriarch, Robert William Fisher - he has not been seen since. Oh, man... what a fun episode! I met up with Dan and Nat from 88 Fingers Louie in Lockport, Illinois to join me in walking through Hellsgate Haunted House. You can listen to hear what we thought about it, and hear what Hellsgate creator John Laflamboy has to say about its history and vision. Discussed this week: 88 Fingers Louie Denis Buckley, a frequent CCC guest, may not have had the intestinal fortitude to take on Hellsgate. The mystery ghoul who followed us through our entire journey through Hellsgate. How John conceptualized the haunted house: Legos! Some of the highlights of walking through Hellsgate. Dan kept his cool throughout the haunt. Dan's a grower, not a shower. There are a lot of people employed by Hellsgate. Seriously big bands have used the Hellsgate property for videos. Hellsgate is ever-changing. The "swamp water" effect... so cool. I have the crap scared out of me around the 15:20 mark. It was amazing. What's next for 88 Fingers Louie (T1 Fest!).

This week we head to Brazil, Indiana, rumored home of Hell’s Gate, or one of the seven said to be in the Wabash Valley. So is Hell’s Gate haunted? Is there truly a gatekeeper watching over the 7th Hell’s Gate? Or is Hell’s Gate just an example of people who have simply gone mad?

Click here to buy: https://adbl.co/33PExjw Graham Jarvis has been at the top of off-road motorcycling for the best part of twenty-five years and has competed in hundreds of competitions and races all over the world, from TV's Junior Kickstart in the early 1990s to the fabled and ridiculously perilous two-day Italian event Hell's Gate, which he has dominated in recent years and which is one of motorsport's most feared events. Having excelled at Trials and Enduro, Graham moved into the high-ocatane world of Extreme Enduro, one of the most exhilarating sports on two wheels, in 2011. Since then, he has won Extreme Enduro's five major competitions -the Erzberg Rodeo, the Red Bull Sea to Sky, the Red Bull Romaniacs, the Tough One and the chilling Hell's Gate - no fewer than twenty-five times, making him one of motorsport's most successful riders. In To Hell's Gate and Back, Graham will take us from his early years in Canterbury, where he started out on an old BMX bike that his dad had rescued from the tip, to competing against up to 1,800 riders in races where dozens are often airlifted to hospital, and only three or four finish . . . with Graham usually at the head of the field. It is a story of dedication, skill and, above all, an extreme passion for off-road motorcycling.

"To transform people is an amazing gift." Dr. Kates has treated between 20,000 - 30,000 patients in his 25 years of practice. In that time, he has had a dramatic impact of each of those lives. Listen as he shares some drama in his own life that led him to choose orthodontics for a profession. He also was shaped by the mandatory travel abroad program during college which afforded him a trip to Kenya, his significant adventure beyond home. "This helped me discover who I am. I had to go deep within myself." For six months, he lived there and learned Kiswahili in the process - and he speaks it in this episode! He spent three months with a family and three months in the jungle living in a tent. Listen as he details some wild stories about hippos and buffalo! His talks about Hell's Gate, a place that's essentially a zoo with no cages, where, upon entry, a sign reads, enter at your own risk and peril! Hear him tell a suspenseful tale about when the ground began to shake and a dust storm kicked up which meant only one thing - a stampede!
