The upside of market mix modelling (MMM) is it “certainly helps with credibility,” when proving marketing's return on investment, per Optus consumer marketing boss Cam Luby. The downside is that it spits out a shedload of data. Hence Mutinex combining its real-time MMM platform with an AI-powered co-pilot called Hendren to hep marketers more easily interrogate and interpret the data with prompts – and shortcuts next best actions. Optus' marketing team is already putting it to work. “The MMM gives us the opportunity to understand something we previously couldn't; Hendren gives us the ability to understand that faster and make decisions quicker. It puts the data we have to better use,” says Luby. “It facilitates a really valuable discussion about the outputs that we should expect from marketing and puts it in terms that matters to the business. Our finance team … they're not really that interested in buying media. They're interested in the outcome for the business.” Using Mutinex's MMM has enabled Optus' marketing team to prove hypotheses and adjust channel allocation as a result, “and that's yielded increases for us,” says Luby. Michael Hill CMO, Jo Feeney, is about to plug in the Mutinex platform and will use the first model as a “performance review ... to make sure that every dollar we're spending is being spent in the right place, and it's actually paying back”. Plus, she aims to demonstrate that generating retail sales requires a little more than lower funnel performance tactics and offers. Likewise “myth busting” some misconceptions that may be held by management, such as “no-one watches TV anymore”. More broadly, Feeney wants to prove marketing's P&L contribution over any perception of marketing as a cost centre. After that, Feeney's keen to prove the value of Michael Hill's rapidly growing loyalty scheme – now at 2.5m members – and the dollar value of its owned channels versus paid media. “I've got some early data, but to be able to put that through a model like this as well would be amazing.” Mutinex's Will Marks says “repointing” Mutinex's GrowthOS engine to do exactly that is top priority for 2025, alongside “supercharging our forecasting and optimisation capability so that we can help marketers get to different scenarios faster and easier” – and with deeper granularity on what's really going on within channels.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Introducing Jason HendrenJason Hendren is a CEO coach, speaker, and exit planning advisor who guides entrepreneurs in reaching large-scale objectives and planning for an eventual exit. Jason knows firsthand what it's like to grow a profitable business and navigate the selling process. He sold most of his business to private equity and stayed on and ran it as the CEO for a while. After selling it a second time, he bought some complementary businesses and eventually started another business, Hendren Business Advisors, where he helps business owners grow and exit their businesses. What You Will LearnPE professionals' collaboration with management teamsPlanning for a high multiple and profitable exit Founding, growing, and selling a business to private equity Breakdown[01:16] Getting to Know Jason Hendren[03:00] Enhancing PE professional's relationship with management teams.[05:50] Improving CFO's and C-suite exit strategy [10:22] Value creation and packaging a profitable business [12:00] Things Jason wishes he knew before he sold PE[15:32] Jason's Go-To Self-Improvement Resources[17:26] How to reach out and connect with Jason[17:44] Ending the show PE CFO and C-suite Exit StrategyHow can CFOs and C-Suite improve their exit strategy? Jason shares that hiring the right investment banker is the first step. The worst time spent by an entrepreneur is in training their investment banker about their business and industry. The investment banker should walk in with that investment knowledge. When Jason is working with entrepreneurs, he looks for investment bankers who have sold businesses that look like theirs and are similar in size as much as possible. According to Jason, when you bring an investment banker in, they should be able to tell you about the buyers in the market and give you information you don't have access to that you can tweak to get a higher multiple. How to Contact JasonJason on LinkedInHendrenba.comThank you for tuning in!To get the newest Private Equity episodes, you can subscribe on iTunes or Spotify here.Lastly, if you have any feedback on the podcast or want to reach out to Alex with any questions, send an email to alex.rawlings@raw-selection.com.
Theatermaker Joe Hendren wants people to know about History Theatre's Raw Stages new works festival, taking place through Sunday in St. Paul. There's a reading of a new work-in-progress each day. These are plays and musicals commissioned by the History Theatre, and this festival is an opportunity for the shows' playwrights and artistic team to see how an audience reacts, and for the audience to ask questions and offer feedback in a Q&A following each performance. Find the line-up here.Hendren is especially interested in seeing “Secret Warriors,” a new play written by Rick Shiomi, a founding member of Theater Mu and co-founder of Full-Circle Theater. The play is about the nisei (second-generation Japanese Americans) who worked with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II as translators, codebreakers and interrogators. The show highlights a piece of Minnesota history: the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling. That reading is Saturday at 2 p.m.St. Paul artist Stuart Loughridge is looking forward to the opening this Saturday of David Cunningham's exhibit “City Life” at Gallery 360 in Minneapolis.Cunningham's oil paintings focus on urban landscapes and on liminal times of day when the light of dusk or dawn does magical things to a city. Loughridge says Cunningham's paintwork is “exciting and active,” with elements of abstraction, and he appreciates the mysterious narratives of the people who populate his canvasses. Visitors can expect to see familiar Twin Cities sights in a new way. The show runs through Feb. 25. St. Paul playwright Kyle B. Dekker is a big fan of the Minneapolis band Sycamore Gap, who he always enjoys seeing perform at the Renaissance Festival. The group sings old world, revival and original folk music about working people, with sea shanties and some yodeling thrown in for good measure. Dekker loves their harmonies and bass rhythms. This Saturday, Sycamore Gap will be the closing act in a four-band local concert in South Minneapolis. The event is a fundraiser for the Arbitrarium, an artist coop that is raising money to buy their building and create housing for low-income artists. The show starts at 7 p.m. and will be livestreamed on YouTube.
In this episode of All Things Judicial, we feature excerpts of an interview with former Forsyth County attorney William F. Womble (1916-2016) who was the very first recipient of the Chief Justice's Professionalism Award. He begin practicing law with Manly, Hendren & Womble immediately following graduation from Duke University School of Law in 1939. Just two years later, Womble was drafted by the United States Army to serve in WWII until the war's end in 1945. Throughout his career, he became a highly regarded attorney that championed public service and mentorship. In one notable public service role, he worked to desegregate the North Carolina Bar Association during his tenure as its president in the 1960s. "That is something we always say to the young lawyers and it's one thing that we think has held our firm together," said Womble on the podcast. "It's getting to the basics, the ideas of practicing honesty and integrity and being a student of the law. Those things don't change." This interview was conducted in 2001 by former Executive Director of the Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism Mel Wright. A video of this interview can be found on the NCcourts YouTube channel.

Episode 3 features an in-depth interview with Sara Hendren. Sara is an artist, design researcher, and write who teaches design for disability at Olin College of Engineering. Her work has been exhibited widely and is held in permanent collection of MoMA and the Cooper Hewitt museum; her writing and design work has been featured in The New York Times and Fast Company and on NPR. Hendren has been a fellow at New America and Carey Institute for Global Good. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her husband and children https://sarahendren.com/about/. In this episode, Sara discusses how to shift thinking, and teaching, around disability from assistive design to adaptive design. Her book asks the question: “What might assistance based on the body's stunning capacity for adaptation — rather than a rigid insistence on ‘normalcy' — look like?” In the classroom, Sara resists the approach of tech-savior-ism and rehab engineering, to instead reframe all technology as adaptive: “take a look at your smartphone, the utensils with which you ate your lunch, the glasses or the contacts that you wear every day, the orthotic shoe on one side that's helping you with a more comfortable gait — and call that all technology, find yourself in that big plane of existence, which is just an extended body with stuff that has needs.” The syllabus for the course “Investigating Normal” can be found here - http://aplusa.org/courses/investigating-normal/ The syllabus for the course “Critical Designer/Activist Engineer” can be found here - http://aplusa.org/courses/critical-designer-slash-activist-engineer/ Both courses are part of the Adaptation and Ability Group, a technical and social lab for creative engineering and design on the subjects of disability, which Sara directs. http://aplusa.org/ Read the interview as a transcript, with images and links, on our Medium Publication here - https://medium.com/processing-foundation/createcanvas-season-2-interview-with-sara-hendren-2b51a5adcc44
People, generally speaking, have the wrong idea about disability… or so says Sara Hendren, author of a sharp new book called *What Can a Body Do?* The Olin College professor insists on making us see disability in a more human light and learning from our improved sight. She writes, for instance, that “disability is not a fixed or permanent label that belongs only to some people; it arrives for each of us,” adding that while misfit situations—“a disharmony that runs both ways, body to world and back”—are inevitable, they should ideally be met with resilience and creativity. (Her book teems with story after story of such meetings.) In this *Resonance Test* conversation with producer Ken Gordon, Hendren expands on her book and explains, among other things, how misfit scenarios don't have to be isolating but can, in fact, build community. She talks about aging—“In our own country old age is a really an under-imagined moment of life. We tend to make it super passive, and we tend to patronize older adults in a way that's pretty shameful”—and about the idea of incessant adaptation: “Adaptation is the fundamental state.” Above all, Hendren's words enjoined us to pay attention—to our bodies, the bodies of others, and the environment in which they move about. The point of doing so: Striving to give everyone access to a more pleasurable life and even a richer language. “My hope is that by paying attention, we get better language, meaning, non-jargony, non-expert, non-technical language but just language that is ready to hand for the things in our lives.” Host: Kyle Wing Engineer: Kyp Pilalas Producer: Ken Gordon
