Join us for today's engaging episode of the Faculty Factory Podcast, featuring our returning guest, Brian Clyne, MD, MHL. In this episode, we explore key guidance for early-career physicians and faculty in academic medicine through the lens of a coach. Dr. Clyne is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University where he also serves as Vice Chair for Education. It is often a complex journey we face when transitioning from medical training to clinical practice, with some of those unique challenges explored throughout this conversation. Coaching, Self-Awareness, Values, and Goals Dr. Clyne highlighted a significant trend in the opening moments of the interview: an increasing number of early-career physicians are turning to coaching to navigate feelings of uncertainty and redefine their professional identities outside the structured milestones of medical education. This reflects the confusion many feel as they shift from a system with clear guidance to one where they must carve their own paths and establish internal definitions of success. Self-awareness and understanding one's personal values are essential throughout your career, but this is increasingly true during times of transition or uncertainty. Coaching facilitates critical thought and assists individuals in exploring their goals and underlying values, leading to a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment. Keep the Conversation Going You can listen to Dr. Clyne's previous visit with us here at the Faculty Factory Podcast, as he joined us for episode no. 191, entitled 'Finding Focus, Collaborators, and Mentors for Accelerating Scholarly Productivity': https://facultyfactory.org/brian-clyne/. You can contact Dr. Clyne here: brian.clyne@brownphysicians.org and the Faculty Factory website is here: https://facultyfactory.org/
In this episode we will discuss recovering from brain damage through physical therapy and the Carnivore Diet. Transition from Veganism (why he started and why he quit) to finally arriving at a Carnivore way of eating. We will also discuss the Healing Humanity Documentary, where Adam is the Assistant Director. Where it stands and what needs to be done to complete the documentary. About Guest: Adam is a professional photographer by day and an avid steak eater all day! He has teamed up with Kerry Mann and is the Assistant Director on the Healing Humanity documentary. In his professional career his published works include: Sports Illustrated Magazine, National Geographic MLB, MHL, NFL, ESPN, Nickelodeon, Scholastics books and more. Adam was involved in a severe car accident (caused by another) which resulted in 10% loss of brain function. This was a major ruin in his life. Physical Therapy and the carnivore diet majorly helped in recovering from this brain damage. With the carnivore diet he even describes his cognitive function as better than before the accident. Adam was also a vegan for many years and as mentioned above is now a carnivore. He wants nothing more than to spread the word of true healing through the Carnivore Diet. In this episode you will discover: How Carnivore and Physical therapy helped him to recover from brain damage caused by a car accident. Transition from Veganism to Carnivore Why he was inspired to help on the Healing Humanity Documentary and where it stands and what needs to be done before it can be completed.
Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the upcoming draft and one potential draft option in Matvei Michkov. One of the draw backs is that Michkov is signed to a KHL deal through 2025-26, creating an uncertian timeline for when he might be able to actually play for the team that drafts him. According to The Athletic: "On pure talent, he's arguably the highest-ceiling player in this draft class besides Connor Bedard. The hype around him has been tempered, however, because of some serious question marks. Michkov is signed in the KHL for the next three years, through the 2025-26 season. Scott Wheeler has described Michkov as “without question or hesitation, the best prospect I've ever ranked at No. 3 in advance of any draft and the best Russian prospect since Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin back in 2004.”He is also historically a great hockey player According to The Hockey News: "During his age-16 season at the U-20 level, Michkov exceeded any and all expectations. He set the record for both goals and points for 16-year-olds scoring at the MHL level, with 38 goals and 56 points. His totals topped Nikita Kucherov's numbers from the 2009-10 season, where he became the first player to score more than 20 goals and record more than 50 points. Razor thin Game 2 in MHL (second Bunda playoff loss by less than a point), soccer, pooping the bed, puke, 70's porno music, keyword porno and a brilliant Mike T trip suggestion at the end.
Sure they missed the #nflplayoffs for the 12th straight year but #saucegardner & #quinnenwilliams are #nflfirstteamallpro so the future looks bright. But I agree with Woody. @nyjets have to get better faster. 7-10 not going to cut it in 2023. I love the @nygiants this weekend @vikings in an upset. #wildcardweekend should be just that. @chargers #mikewilliams fractured back will hurt @jaguars who I like in a close game 20-17. #kyrieirving needs help & #bensimmons needs to take more then three shots vs @celtics @mostcallmeo or it's going to be rough until #kd comes back. @thetinasingh love @sikhhelmets fantastic idea that you made a reality. @nyrangers score with less than a second remaining win 2-1 in OT over @dallasstars the kind of win that can springboard their #nhl season. @seattlekraken win 7th straight first regulation loss for Boston & shutout to boot @nhlbruins 3-0 last night. @umichbball blew it @iowahoops last night. 9-7 not getting it done.

Tami McMasters-Gomez, BS, CCS-P, CDIP, CCDS, (MHL), is the Director of CDI and Coding Operations at UC-Davis Health in California. She has ultimate oversight of 80 employees, a team that is busy querying, coding, and abstracting data for a huge organization that includes its flagship 646-bed multispecialty academic medical center. Tami is a bright light in the field in all respects, and the accolades have been rolling in. This past May she was given the Recognition of Professional Achievement Award from ACDIS at its national conference in Orlando, and the year prior her organization won ACDIS' first-ever award for Diversity in CDI award, as well as similar recognition for its efforts in diversity from Forbes Magazine. It's hard to believe she ended up in this position after initially studying to be an event planner at Sacramento State University, majoring in marketing and communications and ultimately earning an event planning certification. But the world works in mysterious ways, and a part time job as a file clerk at a small rural hospital ultimately led her to health information management. UC Davis Health is the real beneficiary of that decision. According to a 2010 study, UC Davis Health generates more than $3.4 billion in annual economic output and more than 20,000 jobs. The organization is ranked in 9 specialties in the U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals—data that of course is derived, in part, from Tami's work. We cover Tami's stops over 30 years in healthcare, including 17 (wow) in CDI. Along the way we discuss its outpatient CDI program roll out and current progress, UC Davis' decision to discontinue DRG reconciliation (and why you might want to follow its lead), and also its strong commitment to diversity, both in the CDI/coding departments and organization-wide. Get inspired by an HIM professional who is doing cutting-edge work and building a CDI department that is committed to diversity of race, gender, ethnicity, and professional backgrounds (RN, HIM, MD, and more). We cover a lot more too, including the reality of CDI technology and how smart it actually is (UC Davis is a big adopter in this space, and is currently piloting provider-facing tech), tips and suggestions for progressing from coding into leadership, the importance of CDI-coding collaboration, and the usual fun asides. Despite her considerable responsibilities Tami hasn't given up on her event planning dreams, and is actively looking to buy a wedding venue in California. I can neither confirm nor deny if the weddings will be CDI themed. Stay tuned. Take a trip with me to the west coast for episode 3 of Off the Record. I hope you enjoy it.
This week we're talking with Brian Clyne, MD, MHL, on the Faculty Factory Podcast. Dr. Clyne joins us for a discussion about the ongoing journey of finding focus, collaborators, coaches, and mentors while working in academic medicine. With that in mind, please make sure to listen all the way though until the end—you won't be disappointed! While Dr. Clyne admits that coaching is not a panacea for every issue we encounter, it does come with some major wellness benefits. “[Coaching] can help you become more aware of your responses and reactions to certain situations and because of that I think it helps fight burnout amount healthcare providers,” he said.
