Anthony Davis chipped in with 22 points with four rebounds. LA held Toronto to 45% shooting with 34% from three.
Phoenix Suns vs. LA Lakers NBA Betting Pick Prediction 10/25/2024 by Tony T. Suns at Lakers—Okogie is out with Allen and Beal questionable. Vanderbilt, Wood and Koloko are out for LA with Hood Schifino doubtful. Phoenix is 1-0 following their 116-113 road win at LA Clippers. The Suns shot 49% with 39% from three but 22 turnovers. Kevin Durant scored 25 points with seven rebounds. Bradley Beal chipped in with 24 points and three boards. Phoenix allowed 46% shooting to the Clippers with 28% from three. LA sits at 1-0 after their 110-83 home win to Minnesota. The Lakers made 44% with 5 of 30 from three. Anthony Davis scored 36 points with 16 rebounds. Rui Hachimura had 18 points and five rebounds. LA held Minnesota to 41% shooting with 32% from three.
The Lakers still have designs on moving up in the Western Conference, and the narrowest of windows in which to get it done. There are opportunities. The Suns, for example, have an insanely brutal schedule over their last 10 games, and the Lakers do own the tiebreaker against Phoenix. Sacramento is still in reach, and has a harder schedule than LA. But if the Lakers want to make any of this happen - and want to avoid the possibility of dropping to 10th, or even worse, open the door for a red hot Houston Rockets team, tonight's game at home against a moribund Philadelphia 76ers is simply one they should win, and must win. Must, must, must. Must. And it's those "should win" games where the Lakers have tended to struggle, playing down to the level of competition. Can't happen tonight. Meanwhile, the Lakers announced that Jalen Hood-Schifino will undergo a procedure to repair a disc issue in his back, and while no timetable was announced, it would certainly figure that he'll miss a good chunk of time, possibly the rest of the year. No impact on the big club... which really is the jumping off point for the conversation. That losing Hood-Schifino makes no difference for their fortunes shines a light on the decision to draft him in the first place over players more capable of playing an NBA role as rookies. But that question - did they draft the right guy for THIS year, is a different one than whether Hood-Schifino is a bust. It's waaaaay too early for that. And meanwhile, his stats with South Bay are actually quite good. It's just a shame his season has been so short, both because he's been injured a lot and because the Lakers couldn't send him to the G-League nearly as much as they wanted because of the injury to Gabe Vincent. Finally, a great question from a viewer on the YT page: With Cam Reddish back, would it make sense to put him in the starting lineup in order to boost the defense, and bring some scoring to the second unit? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers must win on Friday. There's just no way around it. SEGMENT 2: Hood-Schifino needs back surgery, which opens up the debate about drafting him in the first place. SEGMENT 3: Would a change in the lineup make sense? NBA free agency kicks off Friday at 3 pm PT, and while the Lakers aren't likely to be first out of the gate—that tends to be the teams with real dollars to spend—they'll most certainly be paying close attention to where the first wave of players land, and who might be left over.A big (or bigger than the Lakers can make, at least) offer to someone like Dennis Schröder could change the landscape a little, too, because it might mean the taxpayer mid-level exception people expect the Lakers to use (and currently, in theory, earmarked for Schröder) would go somewhere else. It's a thin year for free agents, so who is out there that might make sense? And what about Jalen Hood-Schifino? The Lakers added four players in last week's NBA Draft: First round pick Jalen Hood-Schifino (G, Indiana), Maxwell Lewis (F, Pepperdine) in the second round, and two undrafted players signed to two-way contracts (D'Moi Hodge, G, Missouri and Colin Castleton, C, Florida). They also signed Florida F Alex Fudge to an Exhibit 10 deal.Generally speaking, the the Lakers' draft was well-received by those who grade this sort of thing, but who exactly did they get? What are the strengths and weaknesses? We bring back Lakers draft expert Mike Garcia (@canyondriver) to take a deep dive into the newest members of the purple and gold.It starts with Hood-Schifino. What are his most translatable NBA skills? Who are his comps? (Is it weird to watch his film and think of a right-handed D'Angelo Russell?) Can he defend at a high enough level to earn minutes as a rookie? What about concerns around his 3-point shooting and finishing ability? Mike breaks down all of Hood-Schifino's strengths and weaknesses.Meanwhile, Maxwell Lewis comes from Pepperdine with a lot of potential as a shooter, scorer and defender, but plenty of rough edges to iron out. What are the chances he can get that done? How long of a learning curve are the Lakers realistically looking at for a guy who has tools but needs some refining? Unlike Hood-Schifino, Lewis won't be expected to contribute next year. And what about the two-way contracts, in Castleton and Hodge? The latter was a very accurate, high-volume shooter for the Tigers - and there's always room for shooters in the NBA - but the former might have an easier path to some floor time should he pan out, given the current makeup of the roster. And then there's Fudge, a player Garcia hoped the Lakers might find a way to get. High energy, great athlete, real potential as a defender.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Strengths and weaknesses: Jalen Hood-Schifino.SEGMENT 2: More on Schifino, plus breaking down Maxwell Lewis.SEGMENT 3: Finishing Lewis, and on to the two-way guys!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. #Lakers 2023 #NBADraft Class Results | NBA Draft 2023 The Los Angeles Lakers prioritized the future in the 2023 NBA Draft, opting to select two players — Jalen Hood-Schifino (no. 17) and Maxwell Lewis (no. 40) — instead of trading up, down, or for a win-now piece. “I think the end goal, we talk about it all the time, is for us to put a championship-level product on the court,” said Rob Pelinka after the draft. “Sometimes you can't make all of your moves in one fell swoop. But we're really excited about the way the draft panned out. Just the value we were able to acquire with the two players.” The Lakers have since signed three undrafted free agents, which should not be overlooked considering the successes of Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso. Summer League begins on July 3. Jalen Hood-Schifino (No. 17 Overall Pick) The Lakers, like many draft prognosticators, including ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, had the former Indiana guard ranked in the mid-teens. Pelinka called Hood-Schifino a “lottery-level” talent with “Lakers DNA.” Basketball-wise, Hood-Schifino hypothetically fills various needs. On defense, he projects as a switchable, two-way wing with above-average size (6'6, 6'10 wingspan, 215 pounds). “He comes with such a great physical package and profile to be a great defender,” Pelinka said. “He's got all the skills with the length to disrupt passing lanes, disrupt shots.” “I would just say I'm an all-around player,” Hood-Schifino assessed. “I check a lot of boxes. Obviously, a big guard. I feel like I can score from all three levels. Really unselfish. Floor general.” Pelinka envisions a perimeter pairing of Reaves and Hood-Schifino, which would supply IQ, crafty movement (ideal around LeBron James), and two-way versatility. “Fino” grew up a Lakers fan and has a Kobe Bryant tattoo on his arm. The Lakers were the first team he worked out for, and seemed to be his preferred destination. “It's honestly really crazy and kind of hard to say how I feel because growing up I was a big Kobe fan. I was always watching his videos, watching the Lakers. For me to get drafted by the Lakers is kind of surreal and kind of crazy.” Maxwell Lewis (No. 40 overall pick) The Lakers sent the Indiana Pacers over $4 million to move up seven spots in the second round, ultimately resulting in the selection of the Pepperdine swingman. Lewis is another rangy wing with good size (6'7, 7'0 wingspan). Unlike Jalen, the 21-year-old is an elite athlete with a more developed shot (35.4% from 3 for the Waves). At the very least, he should be able to knock down open looks off the catch right away. His game needs polishing, especially in the areas of ball-handling, passing, and defensive awareness. For a second-round pick, though, the upside and value are obvious. So Z Nation, what do you expect from this Lakers draft class this upcoming season??? Comments down below

Both Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis were selected in Thursday's 2023 NBA Draft by the Lakers and Warriors, respectively. It was a night of different emotions, though, as Hood-Schifino was drafted early while Jackson-Davis had a very, very long wait until being taken with the No. 57 pick.On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to two more Hoosiers being drafted into the NBA. Jackson-Davis' fall through the second round was another example of the NBA overthinking something simple, but the end result is TJD ending in a great situation for him.Hood-Schifino, meanwhile, landed with a Lakers team and franchise that has a great history of developing players and is a good situation. While there won't be pressure to be a leader of a rebuilding team, there will be pressure of being a member of team competing for a title. The show wraps by looking at the grades and reactions for both players. Imman Adan is joined by Rafael Barlowe, Director of Scouting/NBA Big Board, to discuss the latest rumours around the Toronto Raptors, including who they may have given draft promises to. Also, they rank combo guards (Bufkin, George, Hood-Schifino, Podziemski), touch on Leonard Miller's eye-popping close to the season and more! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In Episode 1420, Sean Woodley goes solo to profile Indiana point guard prospect Jalen Hood-Schifino and what makes him an almost perfect with the Toronto Raptors theory, save for one very notable weakness in his game. Off the top, Sean discusses why Hood-Schifino would make sense for the Raptors, from his excellent pick-and-roll operation to his stout defense as an over-sized guard at the point of attack, to a really interesting mid-range pull up game. But, does his suspect three-point shooting, especially off the catch, make him too tricky a fit to really work on this Raptors roster? Next, Sean digs into what the scouts are saying about the strengths and areas for growth in his game, and the concerning underlying numbers and mechanical concerns that could prevent him from becoming a player who can operate effectively without the ball in his hands. Lastly, Sean updates his personal big board for the Raptors at no. 13, and why Hood-Schifino doesn't quite break into the top-three among Sean's most ideal realistic targets for Toronto at 13.Be sure to join our growing listener community on Discord! https://discord.gg/JWprvscdSources for this episodeRafael Barlowe's NBA Big Board: https://www.nbabigboard.com/p/new-nba-mock-draft-lottery-results-8c2Ringer NBA Draft Guide: https://nbadraft.theringer.com/Box & One YouTube Channel by Adam Spinella: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1iPkJVjvKcSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/lockedonnba and when you enter promo code, LOCKEDONNBA, they'll throw in a free custom birddogs Yeti-style tumbler with every order.eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. A first-year Hoosier puts his stamp on the Indiana-Purdue rivaly. Correspondent Tom Maccabe reports.
Colts staff is coming together as Jim Bob Cooter is about to be announced as offensive coordinator, and Tom Manning is returning as tight ends coach - a position he held in 2018. Uh-oh, there might be a confused person or two who believes the Manning I mention in the headline is old #18! To win in March, Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau need to great up quickly! Hood-Schifino turns in over more than almost anyone in the conference, and Reneau fouls more often than anyone - by a big margin! Pacers fans need to get a grip. Learn more about your ad choices. On Saturday, the Hoosiers pulled out a gutsy win against the Wolverines 62-61. Indiana trailed for much of the game but came back every time UM looked like they might pull away. IU took the lead for good on two Jalen Hood-Schifino free throws with just under three minutes left and then neither side scored again as the Cream and Crimson got several key stops down the stretch. Hood-Schifino had 21 points while Trayce Jackson-Davis led the squad with 28 points. No one else did much but the heroics of this dynamic duo was enough to escape Ann Arbor on the winning end for the first time in seven years. The team improves to 18-7 overall and 9-5 in the league and is now in sole possession of second place behind Purdue.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Ehlinger was decisive, mobile, and accurate. That was good enough to beat the Commanders, but the defense could not get a stop, so the game came down to a jump ball between Indianapolis native Terry McLaurin and Stephon Gilmore. (at 10:47) Hoosiers freshmen Reneau, Hood-Schifino, and Gunn looked ready to compete in Big 10 as the Hoosiers beat Marian. (at 13:48) Pacers tonight try to win third straight! Hopefully, Ball Sports Indiana can allow us to watch Tyrese Haliburton and Ben Mathurin ball! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-kent-sterling-show/support

Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
The Indiana Hoosiers basketball program landed a huge commitment from Class of 2022 5-star prospect Malik Reneau. After visiting Bloomington over the weekend alongside fellow IU commit and Montverde Academy commit Jalen Hood-Schifino, Reneau committed to the program without taking either of his other official visits scheduled. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) reacts to the most exciting news yet of the IU offseason with Reneau's commitment. On top of adding a ton of talent to IU's roster, Reneau gives the Hoosiers a talented big man that gives them insurance whether Trayce Jackson-Davis stays or goes. His commitment also gives IU the No. 1 recruiting class in the Big Ten and the No. 5 recruiting class nationally, both according to 247Sports. It gives Indiana a third 5-star recruit in just over the last year, including Hood-Schifino and Tamar Bates. It also continues building on the momentum that the Hoosiers had at the close of the season by making the tournament.Offensively, Reneau has great touch and feel that will allow him to contribute around the rim offensively. His rebounding will be impactful on both ends of the floor as will his great footwork, balance and strength. Defensively, he will give IU an athlete to defend forwards and a strong player to defend post players. The show wraps by looking at the implications of his commitment, including whether this has a positive or negative impact on Trayce Jackson-Davis returning after declaring for the 2022 NBA draft.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
Indiana Hoosiers basketball commit Jalen Hood-Schifino competed in the Jordan Brand Classic over the weekend and once again looked impressive among elite company on the court. His teammate on the night and for the season as a whole was Malik Reneau, who took his official visit to IU over the weekend. The pair of five-star prospects could join last season's five-star prospect in Tamar Bates, who is the subject of the latest season recap. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) recaps Hood-Schifino's performance at the Jordan Brand Classic. Once again, he looked like a point guard in control of his team, this time coming amongst a host of fellow elite prospects across the nation. His 3-point shot was on point and showed a glimpse of what his ceiling could be when it's falling.Reneau's performance showed the flashes of the dynamic player he could be and prospect he is as an athletic big. After taking part in the game in Chicago, Reneau - and Hood-Schifino - traveled to Bloomington for the former's official visit, the first of three he has scheduled as IU looks to land the recruit. The show wraps by looking at Tamar Bates' freshman season in Bloomington. An up-and-down year ultimately culminated in a disappointing season, but one that still featured flashes of what he could be for the Hoosiers. It also should give fans plenty of reason to believe a big 2022-23 season could be in store.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
Indiana Hoosiers basketball commit Jalen Hood-Schifino and his Montverde team were on ESPN for the Geico High School National tournament on Thursday. For many IU fans, it was the first look at Hood-Schifino, a top-25 recruit for 2022, this season as well Hoosiers target Malik Reneau. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) discusses his takeaways from watching Montverde, Hood-Schifino and Reneau in action. The show also looks at a very intriguing name of Indianapolis product that entered the transfer portal in Nijel Pack and whether he fits with the Hoosiers. The biggest takeaway from seeing Hood-Schifino on the court is his size and how ready he looks to play not just college basketball but Big Ten basketball already. While some players require a physical maturation to adapt to the nature of play in the conference, Hood-Schifino looks like the exception to that rule. He also will fill a number of holes for the Hoosiers as a secondary creator with plenty of height and size on the perimeter.Reneau's potential fit, though, is not nearly as natural. He's a supremely talented player who would make the Hoosiers better but his arrival would probably only happen if certain things happened with the roster, namely in the form of departures. If Trayce Jackson-Davis or Race Thompson leave Bloomington, Reneau's fit becomes much clearer on the court. The show wraps by discussing Pack entering the transfer portal and the potential interest of IU. While he would immediately address Indiana's biggest need in shooting, the Hoosiers already have a backcourt full of guards on the roster and Pack would crowd that group while forcing the team into tough decisions in the starting lineup and rotation.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team landed one of the biggest recruits in recent years on Tuesday with the commitment of 2022 guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) looks at what Hood-Schifino's commitment means for the Hoosier program and, more specifically, Mike Woodson before then diving into how he fits with the team on-court. On Tuesday afternoon, coveted 4-star guard Jalen Hood-Schifino became the third commitment in the Class of 2022. We convened an emergency panel featuring Jerod Morris, Galen Clavio, and Dustin Dopirak (of the Herald-Times!!!) to discuss Hood-Schifino's commitment, what it means, what type of player he is, and what it suggests about the program Mike Woodson is building in Bloomington.
For a guy who has never taken a snap for the Colts, there is a lot of hate for Carson Wentz, and I don't get it! Mike Pegram of 247 Sports has never botched a prediction for a basketball recruit, and he predicts Jalen Hood-Schifino will go to Indiana. Brownsburg's Lance Lynn tossed for flipping his belt at an umpire. Nebraska Football is in the NCAA's crosshairs, which means a punishment may come as soon as 2027! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-kent-sterling-show/support
Wentz has been a top 10 QB - and not just in 2017 when he was an MVP candidate. Jalen Hood-Schifino is down to his final two - Indiana & Tennessee. He's a top 25 recruit in the '22 class. Will he pick IU and Mike Woodson? Cubs losing streak stopped at 12 because Kyle Hendricks can still get people out! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-kent-sterling-show/support
