When the Corona crisis hit Italy in March, Claudia Witticke wasn't allowed to do her sewing classes anymore. She thought it would just be a short holiday, but then she had to close her fabric shop as well and couldn't produce anything anymore. From one day to the next, she wasn't earning a cent. This didn't only affect her livelihood - Claudia also felt a responsibility towards her employee and decided to do something about the situation. She sensed that a lot of people would want to learn and improve their skills during the time they had to spend locked up at home, and even though it seemed scary at first, decided to take her services online. She joined SOMBA Accelerator (former Online Turnaround) and started to create her short-term offer, put it on her website and promoted it through her email list and on social media. Within three days, she sold 10 spots and made the money she invested into SOMBA Accelerator back. But that was only the start. In this episode of the Sigrun Show, Claudia shares how she prepared for a proper launch, how she thought her webinar was a disaster, and how she pushed through and had a $15K launch in the end. Claudia's story is inspiring and relevant for everyone whose business has been affected by the Corona crisis. Be sure to listen in! “I decided that if I went ahead and did something, there would be a way - I didn't know how or what, but I was sure I was going to figure it out.”- Claudia Witticke What you will get out of this episode: How it felt when Claudia wasn't able to do her sewing classes anymore Claudia's positive attitude How Claudia made her money back three days after joining SOMBA Accelerator Learning how to do a proper launch Claudia's webinar debacle How things turned around and Claudia made over $15K Claudia's next goal Do you want to read more inspiring stories? Claudia Dill grew up in upstate New York and Northern California. Claudia attended State University College at Cortland majoring in Physical Education but never taught. She moved to Lake Tahoe, worked as a professional ski patroller and other seasonal jobs for several years. Later, Claudia obtained a degree in Physical Therapy from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her first entrepreneurial experience was owning a private practice in Lake Tahoe. After 11 years, she sold the practice to an employee and retired, spending a couple of partial years living in Anchorage, Alaska before deciding to travel the lower 48 in an RV with her husband. This plan started off with a bang as the San Francisco earthquake happened during their first week on the road in California. Several weeks later, they ended up in Florida, a place they found interesting, but not somewhere to stay long-term, so they bee-lined back to Tucson, Arizona for its mountains and mild winters. A few years later they divorced and Claudia devoted herself to the game of tennis for about a decade, training and competing around the country. Early on, she discovered wheelchair tennis and found it combined her interests in PT and tennis. She became a certified wheelchair tennis teaching pro, her second entrepreneurial experience, and continues this today, almost 20 years later. After losing a total of 80% of her “comfortable” wealth in the tech crash and the recession of 2008, Claudia stubbornly stayed in the market a few more years believing that with the sage advice of financial advisors, she could recover. As it became increasingly obvious that it was a fantasy and would not happen, she looked around to find a way to do it on her own. A latent interest in real estate led her to seek out a mentor who would educate and guide her to competency in real estate investing. Fast forward to today, after sinking over $75,000 into different programs and systems that just did not fit or work or even really existed, Claudia discovered Chris Prefontaine, with his straightforward communication style and his clarity. She gradually came to appreciate and trust his experience, availability, creativity, and willingness to really participate in her progress, leading to her eventual upgrade to the high six level of participation. What you'll learn about in this episode: How Claudia initially got involved in real estate, and what kind of success she found and mistakes she made in her early years How Claudia tied her home equity line of credit into a deal that went sour due to teaching from less-than-stellar mentors How Claudia lost 80% of her net worth due to the tech bubble crash and then the real estate market crash, and how she got back on her feet What valuable tools and personal transformation Chris's coaching gave Claudia that helped her power through her own misgivings How Claudia has successfully completed six deals since learning Chris's methods, and how she has several more deals that will be completing or cashing out soon What kind of paydays Claudia has seen using Smart Real Estate Coach methods, with a total of around $70,000 from payday one and around $4500 from payday two from her properties so far, for nearly $450,000 total earned so far Why Claudia suggests that people start by altering their mindsets and vocalizing present-tense goals out loud to someone Why you should affirm your goals daily to develop positive habits and shut down negative thinking, and how Claudia saw success within just 2 weeks How attending three of Chris's QLS events has been increasingly transformative and educational for Claudia What books Claudia recommends people read that have had the most major impacts on her thinking and business strategies Why Claudia's parting advice is to "take massive, imperfect action" rather than waiting for everything to be perfect Claudia Dill's Recommended Reading List: The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins: https://amzn.to/2IdnNdk The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: https://amzn.to/2IDKar8

On your journey as an artist, have you experienced a season where you wanted to expand your painting skills? What helped you in that season? What would you suggest to others who are in that season right now? My guest, Claudia Rilling was kind enough to open up about this topic as it relates to her own career as an artist. In our conversation, we also touch on Claudia’s search for direction, her time studying under Israel Hershberg, the technical details of her time in the studio, what attracts her to a subject, and much more. I can’t wait for you to hear some of the powerful insights that Claudia has to share. Searching for direction. As an artist, you are most likely very familiar with the sense of searching for direction in your artwork and in your career in general. What has helped you on your journey? Were you better off finding your path on your own or did it help to be connected to an art community? In my conversation with Claudia Rilling, she shares aspects of her journey and how she struggled and then eventually found her voice and diction as an artist. Specifically, Claudia points to a season of life in her twenties where she struggled with mark making. Before long, Claudia ended up going to grad school where she would continue to wrestle with and then hone her voice and approach as an artist. Honing and expanding your painting skills. What does it take for an artist to get to the point where they finally feel comfortable with their painting skills? Is that even possible or does the artist have to come to terms with a lifelong struggle in this area? Artist Claudia Rilling explains that in her experience, expanding and honing your painting skills is something that most artists continue to work on throughout their career. Having said that, there comes a point where an experienced artist feels more comfortable with their skill sets and abilities. I hope artists like you get as much out of the technical aspects of my conversation with Claudia as I did! Also, don’t forget to check out images of Claudia’s work located at the end of this post. The drawbacks of viewing art digitally. One of the questions I like to put to experienced artists like Claudia Rilling is finding out what they see in the painting world as it sits in today’s landscape. As usual, I was intrigued by Claudia’s response. In her opinion, due to the numerous closures of art galleries and the increased proliferation of art being viewed online, we’ve lost an important feature in the art world. While many artists are becoming more technologically and digitally astute, Claudia maintains that the move to a digital and virtual experience with art is not necessarily a good thing. What do you think of Claudia’s take? Do you agree? Do you view the digital movement as a positive step or a negative one? How to tell when a painting is finished. A question many artists struggle to answer is; when is a painting “Finished?” Do you still struggle with this question? What strategies or methods have you used to help you conclude your paintings? While there is no perfect answer, my guest, Claudia Rilling was kind enough to share her thoughts on this important step in creating artwork. In Claudia’s experience, it all comes down to getting the input of fellow artists. She quips with a great expression, “How many artists does it take to make a painting? Two! One to paint and the other to tell them when to stop.” Are you the type of artist who has the confidence to stop on their own or have you found it helpful to get the opinion of fellow artists? Did you know we have more nerves in our belly than in our brain? This is why the belly is often referred to as ‘the second brain’. And why we do ‘gut checks’ when making big decisions. This delicate system can actually become clouded or blocked by our anxiety or other emotions, just as easily as by our digestive issues. So says Claudia Mansbach, a 17 year practitioner of the ancient Chinese medicine bodywork, Chi Nei Tsang, Chinese medicine bodywork that focuses on the abdomen and internal organs. This would explain, for me at least, why my gut is the first thing to get tense when life stresses me out. Your health, your emotions, your energy, your alignment … and yes, your happiness … are rooted here. Claudia’s life work is to help anyone with digestive issues heal them using Chi Nei Tsang. But she also helps people who don’t have ‘gut issues’ per se, but nervous system issues instead. Author Allison Post refers to this work as ‘Unwinding the Belly’ and that is what it is at the core. People who experience the work fall asleep having their tummy rubbed, and wake up to find their energy restored, their sleep deepened, and their digestion much improved. Listen to Claudia’s soothing and grounded voice as she explains things like: Why the ‘core’ of the body is where some of the most powerful healing can happen How healing the gut can affect the rest of the body How (and why) anxiety lives in our gut The connection between grief and anxiety How stress affects the various organs in the gut … and the entire body The importance of the solar plexus, and where to find it How Chi Nei Tsang can actually heal the entire nervous system The importance of letting go in refining your own gut instinct How Claudia found this deep work … and how it has changed her RESOURCES Touching the Core Within, Claudia’s website [LINK TO http://www.touchingthecore.com/ Unwinding the Belly, by Allison Post BIO Claudia believes deeply in the intrinsic ability of our bodies, minds and spirits to heal. Children who grow up in an addictive home internalize a lot of toxic shame where they lose the ability to believe in their own worth and value. For some people, it has never been instilled in them, to begin with. But there is an emotional connection between the addict and their family. Regardless of how old you are – if you were raised with addiction, you deserve to be acknowledged. On today’s episode of The Addicted Mind Podcast, Duane talks to Dr. Claudia Black, a world-renowned expert on addiction and codependency. Claudia has been working in the field of addictive disorders for over 40 years. She recently released the third edition of her book, “It Will Never Happen to Me: Growing Up with Addiction as Youngsters, Adolescents, and Adults.” Growing up with substance use disorders, there was really a lot of fear that permeated her life – the fear that also permeates the lives of so many people growing up in an addictive home. Claudia believes that nobody deserves to live with fear and shame. Children don't deserve that. Partners don't deserve that. And certainly, the addicted person doesn't deserve that. And it's that belief that has driven Claudia to her 40-year-plus career, and eventually, writing the book, which now has over 2 million copies in print. Challenging the status quo in the late 70’s, Claudia’s work has been a fundamental part of recovery treatment and it has laid a big foundation in the recovery community today. Her work has given a voice and validation to this suffering that people didn't even know how to name back then. In fact, her work around family roles and rules had a huge impact on Duane's recovery and growth. *In this episode, you will hear:* * Growing up in toxic shame, fear, and sadness * How the book came to be * The emotional connection between the addict and their family * The systematic approach to treatment * How Claudia’s work challenged the status quo back then * Acknowledging the children of addiction * Recognizing the different family roles and how to address them * How to walk through pain * The two big resistances to recovery and the value of self-help groups *Key Quotes:* [03:20] - “As children, we internalize a lot of toxic shame... we lose the ability to believe in our own worth and value.” [06:47] - “If you were raised with addiction, I don't care how old you were, you deserve to be acknowledged.” [09:22] - “In the treatment, we're not working with just the person who comes for treatment – but truly, the family is the client.” [14:17] - "The addiction in the family would be ignored by everybody else if they could ignore it." [15:36] - "The issues are ageless... we may understand more about it, we may be more sophisticated in our treatment, but the experience for the person really doesn't change." [20:05] - “That's what recovery is about for a teenager or an adult child – is what you didn't learn, as well as challenging the beliefs along the way.” [25:12] - "For some people, things are more blatant than for others, but it is so chronic." [30:31] - “A lot of people get in trouble as they try and do the skill work without looking at the emotional work or looking at the belief that's associated.” *Subscribe and Review* Have you subscribed to our podcast?
