Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam (/ˈeɪkɒn/; born April 16, 1973), known mononymously as Akon, is a Senegalese-American singer, record producer, and entrepreneur. He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of "Locked Up" (featuring Styles P), the first single from his debut album Trouble (2004), followed by the second single "Lonely". His second album, Konvicted (2006), received three Grammy Award nominations for Best Contemporary R&B Album, and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Smack That" (featuring Eminem) and "I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg). Both singles became Billboard Hot 100 top ten hits, followed up by "Don't Matter" and "Sorry, Blame It on Me". His third studio album Freedom (2008) was led by the single "Right Now (Na Na Na)". Akon often provides vocals as a featured artist and is currently credited with over 300 guest appearances and more than 35 Billboard Hot 100 songs, resulting in five Grammy Award nominations. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. Akon has had four songs certified as 3× platinum, three songs certified as 2× platinum, more than ten songs certified as 1× platinum and more than ten songs certified as gold by the RIAA. He was listed by Guinness World Records as the number-one selling artist for master ringtones in the world. Along with his own musical career, Akon later founded two record labels, Konvict Muzik and KonLive Distribution. A multitude of successful acts, including Lady Gaga, T-Pain, R. City, Kardinal Offishall, Jeffree Star, and French Montana have been signed to Akon through these labels. Akon sports a concurrent career in producing and songwriting records mainly for artists on his respective labels, as well as for other mainstream artists including Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Lionel Richie, Leona Lewis, Sean Paul, and Whitney Houston. Forbes ranked Akon 80th (Power Rank) in the Forbes Celebrity 100 in 2010 and 5th in the 40 Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa list, in 2011. Billboard ranked Akon No. 6 on the list of Top Digital Songs Artists of the decade. In and around the year 2006, R&B crooner, Akon, was inescapable. Singles like “I Wanna Love You” and “Don't Matter” would go three-times-platinum, turning him into one of the most bankable artists in the industry. And yet, the last thing Akon wanted was for his music to be the legacy he left behind. So, over the course of the last decade, Akon has more or less left the world of music, carving out an identity for himself as a tech entrepreneur in Africa where he's created his own solar-power company and a cryptocurrency as well. But Akon's biggest venture is the $6 Billion smart cities he's laying the foundation for in Senegal as we speak. The city's name? Akon City, of course. After raising that much money for its construction, did you really think he'd call it anything else?

After Akon would have 37 songs on The Billboard Hot 100 charts including 2 number 1 hits with “I Wanna Love You” & “Don't Matter”.After Akon would become the first artist to simultaneously hold the number 1 & number 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 Charts TWICEAfter Akon would collaborate with David Guetta, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, and even Michael Jackson! After Akon would hold the Guinness Book of World Record for being the #1 selling ringtone artist in the world. After he would sign T-Pain AND an unknown artist at the time, by the name of Lady Gaga. Akon quickly became one of the music industry’s most dominant hitmakers with songs like “Don’t Matter,” “Smack That,” and “I Wanna Love You.” But after a few years of killing the charts, he took a step back from music. And since then, while you may not have heard about him, Akon has become a modern-day superhero changing the world. And yet a lot of media outlets have still failed to cover the absolutely incredible things this man is doing. We will get into all of that. So if you’re wondering where Akon is today, you’re going to want to watch this video. Because even though he may not be making music, he is still lighting it up! Well at least in Africa, I'll explain more in this video...

New York band Hollis Brown recently sat down with the legendary English group The Zombies for a Talkhouse Music Podcast recorded live at Samsung 837. Over the course of the conversation, Hollis Brown’s Mike Montali and Jonathan Bonilla drew out a history of The Zombies’ singular career as told by key members Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone. Get ready for tales of meeting The Rolling Stones in their hardcore R&B purist days, how the Zombies tried to meet Elvis while in Memphis but hung out with his dad instead, and how it feels to have their new record, Still Got That Hunger, in six Billboard charts after not touching those hallowed heights for 50 years. You’ll also hear about Hollis Brown singer Montali writing Aaron Neville’s new song “I Wanna Love You”, and how guitarist Bonilla got a little too drunk one night in Memphis… and ended up with an Elvis tattoo.

Do not miss this uplifting story.Patrick Rettig is the story, an exposé of a man who is absolutely the last stop for a business owner in financial turmoil. This particular time in the life of an entrepreneur is the quintessential heartbreak of dreams and hope. One would think that financial decisions had been made that were incorrect, that alliances had been broken or that the economy had shifted. Moreover the uncomfortable thinking is that the corporation and its founder were simply a bad deal. The word bankruptcy and reorganization are ghostly specters in the night for those people who must embrace failure.Aaron spent the majority of his years in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by music. He studied Psychology at The Ohio State University. He's always been a creative being and began making music to express his greatest passion. Aaron relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue his relentless craving for music. Within three months of his transition, Aaron found himself Guest co-starring on Tyler Perry's House of Payne on TBS but he couldn't separate himself from creating music and returned to it.
