Hip Hop Hooray, Slackers!Today, we're diving into ‘80s rap—a new genre that was exploding right before our eyes. We'll cover the top-selling albums and the pioneers who started it all. Rap kicked off in the early ‘80s in New York City. LL Cool J's debut record Radio sold over a million units with “I Can't Live Without My Radio” as the lead single. Then Run-D.M.C.'s Raising Hell broke huge, selling three million copies, led by the first rock/rap hybrid track - their reimagining of Aerosmith's “Walk This Way.” The Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill hit ten million thanks to the massive anthem that was “Fight for Your Right (To Party).” Rick Rubin produced all three of these breathrough records.Eric B. & Rakim's Paid in Full sold a million records—“I Ain't No Joke” set a new bar. Seriously, it wasn't until I started revisiting this stuff that I recalled how ahead of his time Rakim really was.Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions moved a million units with songs like “Don't Believe the Hype” and “Bring the Noise,” merging hip hop with social commentary. N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton sold three million records with no radio support since almost all of it was censored. Only “Express Yourself” was clean enough to get airplay! Dr. Dre was already a genius in the studio - that album sounds amazing. On the pop side of rap was Salt-N-Pepa's “Push It,” DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with “Parents Just Don't Understand,” while the big dog was none other than MC Hammer's massively popular Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which sold ten million—“U Can't Touch This” was a party staple. For Gen X, rap was fresh and ours. These pioneers turned a street sound into a movement, selling millions on vinyl and cassettes.

The trio of Naughty By Nature walked the tightrope better than anybody... Mainstream appeal but still Hip-Hop to the core; everybody and their grandmother has swayed to "Hip-Hop Hooray" and Naughty By Nature had the recipe for a few albums. Welcome back My Swedish Friends! Season4 Finale is finally here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are discussing Hip Hop Hooray by Naught By Nature. Thank you for listening we hope you enjoy!!!!!Support the Show.
***EDITOR'S NOTES*** This episode originally aired on YouTube on May 8th 2023. This was the first time we intentionally connected the shows by affiliation as Queen Latifah mentored and introduced the world to Naughty By Nature. This was also our first time trying to add thematic music to the show including a unique intro theme as well as a beat inspired by the song discussed on the episode. Both produced by Kalashnikov Red, initially, we planned to let the inspired track play only during The Stats portion of the show and of course, we managed to mess it up! So we tried to do it live during the recording and when we activated the music, it was so loud, it drowned us out entirely (which we weren't able to hear & realize until we went to mix down the final product). So we ended up mixing ourselves into the existing episode “from the future” with the music premixed down and redoing (luckily, just) the entire stats section of the show. Trying to play like everything we were saying was made up on the spot and trying to give organic “natural” reactions was our finest moments in acting, but we managed to pull off a show that listeners outside of us saying anything about it, had no clue what had happened. Also, we began adding pictures to the YouTube videos which we also were loading up live during the show. We spent too much time fiddling with the screen and talking about us putting the photos up where we learned fairly quickly we needed to try to do something different in future shows. This is another episode where you really see us getting comfortable in our roles and where we want to take the show. As we begin to have more fun making the show, the more positive responses we were getting by the people. So there's a lot of laughter and clowning jabs at each other during this one. We hope you enjoy the episode and continue to ask y'all to please rank and review our show, like the episodes and share them with other Hip-Hop fans in your life. We're slowly growing the IG page as well so to interact with us and get more RTR content, be sure to check us out on InstaGram @RememberTheRecord Peace to everyone who's been rocking with us day one and be sure to peep our YouTube Video Podcast, The Rapper's Corner, as well. - The RTR Crew —————————————————————— ….Celebrating True Hip-Hop Icons…. Hip Hop Hooray, Slackers!Ever hear the term Generation Jones? Me either - until today. They are the late Boomers who share some traits with Gen X. More importantly, the artists that were groundbreaking in the world of rap and hip hop, were all part of this micro cohort. Despite the fact that these Generation Jones folks include the likes of the Sugar Hill Gang and The Furious Five, I am of the opinion that Gen X is THE hip hop generation. All of the greatest artists in the rap game are by and large our peers - think members of NWA, RUN DMC and Beastie Boys as the early breakout stars - while the heavy hitters like Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem are all firmly in the Gen X ranks.Whether you are an early Xer and hitting your teens at the start of hip hop, or a mid Xer like me, rap has been a part of most of our lives. We are the middle aged folks still bumping “The Chronic” after 30 years!Wh0 are your favorite rap artists? And do you agree or disagree that we are the hip hop generation?
What is your favorite thing to do around Easter? Do you love to dye eggs like T? Or search for candy in those little plastic eggs of joy like E?
Few groups have combined lyrical prowess and hit making abilities like Naughty By Nature. They had a string of genre defining hits over the course of the 1990's including joints like Uptown Anthem, Hip Hop Hooray, and Feel Me Flow. Selling an ridiculous amount of records did not water down their approach to music though. Vinny and Treach took rapid fire deliver to high levels of rap music inspiring a generation of rappers including this kid from Detroit name Eminem. Nate and Dave had the opportunity to check in with New Jersey rap royalty Vin Rock, who recounted the groups humble beginnings, there connection to Queen Latifah, and what's next for the rap dynasty that ruled the 90s. On the A-side your hosts put their best foot forward as they discuss the intricacies of male grooming. On the B-side learn more about some upcoming live events featuring the Dad Bod conglomerate. On Episode 5 David and Nick chat with Vin Rock from the Grammy and American Music Award winning Naughty by Nature Don't forget to grab your own authentic Naughty Gear here Naughty by Nature is an American hip hop trio from East Orange, New Jersey consisting of Treach, Vin Rock (Uncle Vin Rock) and DJ Kay Gee. They originally formed in 1986 under the name "The New Style". In 1989, they released "Independent Leaders" as The New Style featuring the minor hit "Scuffin' Those Knees". Shortly after they connected with and were tutored by fellow New Jersey local, Queen Latifah and subsequently changed their name to "Naughty by Nature". Some career highlights: 1990s - Naughty by Nature's first hit was "O.P.P.", which sampled the Jackson 5's hit "ABC" and was released in 1991 on their self-titled album Naughty by Nature. The track peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was named one of the top 100 rap singles of all time in 1998 by The Source magazine, and being ranked the 20th best single of the 1990s by Spin magazine. The album generated another hit with a reworking of Bob Marley's "No Woman No Cry" called "Everything's Gonna Be All Right". That song detailed the experiences of Treach growing up in poverty, and now rising up to live a better life. Powered by the success of that song and "O.P.P.", their self-titled album went platinum. 2011 - Naughty by Nature became the first hip-hop group to perform at the esteemed baseball stadium Fenway Park. They performed "Hip Hop Hooray" as part of the mega boyband New Kids on the Block / Backstreet Boy's concert. 2016 - in celebration of their 25th anniversary, Naughty by Nature released the video of their song "God is Us" from Anthem Inc. 2019 - the Mixtape Tour commenced in Cincinnati, OH. Performers on this tour include Naughty by Nature, Salt-N-Pepa, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany, with New Kids on the Block being billed as the headline performers. David has over 20 years as a DJ and Game Show host in the event space, Nick is a Videographer fresh out of College. While their careers are on opposite ends of the experience scale, they have very similar views on business, life and the drive for success. ------------------------------ Follow Nick on Instagram @nasvisualsllc Follow David on Instagram @davidhanscom Follow the show in Instagram @therookieandthevetpodcast --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therookieandthevetpodcast/support
America's Nationalist Awakening. Trump Advisor Stephen Miller battles Chris Wallace of Fox News. Racism, borders and the deeply Anti-American "Squad" of Democrats. Fireworks Galore. Space Suit Sexism. The Left proves unable to feel pride in the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing. Sad! Notes on the commendable patriotism of astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Hip Hop Hooray. The Vicious George Stephanopoulos Spends Three Days With President Trump. With predictable results. Media feeding frenzy already unleashed. We advise the Trump White House to avoid making the MSM's job any easier heading into 2020. MAGA Country is taking on the best propagandists in the history of the world -- a slick, relentless, dishonest machine. And none are better than "little wise guy" Stephanopoulos at inserting trick DNC narratives into the discourse. Always rendered with a smile. Meanwhile, the failing CNN's Jeff Zucker gets a leadership award. The kind of award people get right before they move on to something else? General Mike Flynn hires new attorney Sidney Powell. So now Flynn has a "pit bull" of his own. Hip Hop Hooray. Plus, additional notes on Communist ideology. Vignettes on Spanish philosopher Baltasar Gracian. The Art of Worldly Wisdom. Beveled edges. Luciano Pavarotti and Elvis Presley. Promises. O Sole Mio. With Listener Calls & Music via Eric Clapton, Abba, Naughty By Nature, Sturgill Simpson, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
