This week Chris and Julio talk about the domestic violence arrest from Marcell Ozuna, Team USA Baseball kicking off their pursuit of the Olympics with some familiar names and the controversial racial comments by Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Bob Brantley about Marcus Stroman. After that, they celebrate Bob Melvin breaking the A's all time managerial wins record, more injuries to key players and Dave Kaval continues his twitter nonsense this time going after the SF Bay media. Then they introduce a new segment called “FTS” where they sound off for one minute on something that is bothering them about the team. After they they do some way too early trade deadline talk to see what needs this team and what players out there could help solve the issue. Finally, they finish it off with previewing the coming week, pick their players of the week and their Essential Tailgate Tool of the Week.

As we celebrate the life of Earl "DMX" Simmons, his story is full of great highs in music but also with adversity and controversy. Not only childhood but the trauma we experience as an adult directly effects our relationships, coping mechanisms and daily behavior. Constant imagery of police brutality and community violence along with what we personally go through shapes us a little more each day. We may not all end up with a platinum selling recording career, but we do all have a song. If it's one of simply trauma or of healing will be up to us. The Beesotted crew Billy TheBee Grant. Dave Laney Lane and Matt The Allard Allard hooked up in the virtual joint to discuss all things BrentfordOn the agenda this week:Brentford's 1-0 win at Blackburn. It wasn't pretty. But was this the Plan B that Brentford have needed for a long time?Norgaard is back. Did him starting with Janelt work for Brentford? They also discussed the unscientific poll Beesotted conducted after the match in which we asked a number of Bees fans to predict the result of Brentford's final 11 matches. And with the points total, we estimated where The Bees would finish by taking an average of all the previous six seasons where 89 points average would get you to second place. We also compared totals to Five Thirty Eight who was predicting 86 points would get you 2nd place this season. Plus JB with his facts and funk - Brentford's current 66 points. How good is that actually compared to other Championship seasons? And Justin Peach from The Second Tier Podcast gives us the lowdown on Derby County who Brentford play on Tuesday

With protests continuing in cities all over the world, the Channel Zero Network has some reminders on how to support those who have been arrested, and those who may be arrested in the coming days and weeks. Arrests are one tool cops use to repress mass movements. Arrest keeps protesters off the streets during demonstrations. They scare people with the threat of court cases and potential prison sentences. Alone, we feel defenseless against the police and the courts. By providing jail and court support, we can push back against this repression, from the moment that our comrades are taken in, to the end of their court case. Before heading out into the streets, make sure you and everyone you're with has acontact number written on their body. You'll need to get in touch with someone if you're arrested and you most likely won't have your personal belongings with you. This number can be the National Lawyer's Guild, a group you're involved with, or just a friend who's not at the protest. If you see someone getting arrested, call your legal support number with the arrestee's legal name and birthday. If you are in a large city, you may have to determine where they will be taken. Try to find the arresting officer's precinct or unit. This may determine where your comrade ends up. In smaller cities, everyone may go to the same place. If you expect more arrests, try to stay and observe. If not, you should head to the precinct to wait for the arrestee. Once at the precinct, use the legal name and birthday of the arrestee to ask the cops for the arrest number, charges, and where the arrestee will be taken or held. Keep anyone supporting you in the loop. Be prepared to wait many hours. Keep in touch with others and take turns waiting outside the precinct. It could take hours, or in some cases, the whole night, especially if there's been a mass arrest. From here, each city and state has different processes and different jargon. Connect with local organizers and read about local laws to learn what the process will be in your area. Here are some things that you might encounter. Sometimes arrestees are released quickly with a notice that they'll need to show up in court at a later date. If this happens, take the contact info of arrestees. You'll want to be ready to offer them court support in the future. Sometimes arrestees are charged before release. This is a longer process usually called arraignment, which is a procedural court hearing to file charges and set bail. The court will assign a public defender for arraignments. Try to have a couple offriends attend the arraignment for support. Due to COVID 19, you may only be able to observe via video. Sometimes arrestees will have to post bail to be released. If bail is set, let the court officer know you’re arranging payment and will be coordinating with the arrestee’s lawyer. If you need support making bail connect with local organizers, there may be a bail fund for protestors in your area. No matter what happens, always relay what's happening to other people offering support. Regardless of the legal situation the arrestee ends up in, you'll need to bring some things with you. People who are getting out may be exhausted or have trouble getting home. So bring snacks, water, aspirin, bus fare or transit cards, and cigarettes. If you have a friend being held, you can bring their favorite snacks! If you know the arrestee requires a specific medication, bring that too. You'll also need water and snacks to sustain yourself! Bring External batteries for charging phones as you may be waiting for many hours. If you can't stay and help with jail support, dropping off materials to those waiting can be a big help. Unfortunately, there is a high risk of exposure to COVID-19 while in an enclosed jail cell. Arrestees should consider self-quarantining and getting tested. For every street action and for every viral video of arrests, there are dozens of people outside the spotlight supporting the movement. Remember, it's not over until everyone's safely gotten out of prison and everyone's beaten their charges. Check out Rebel Steps' Jail Support episode at for more tips and resources. As protests heat up, the Channel Zero Network has some reminders on how to stay safe while out in the streets. Bring buddies and don't let them out of the range of your voice. Write a legal aid number on your body so you can get help if you get arrested. Be sure to know your buddies legal names and birthdays. You'll need these to help find them if they're arrested. When moving around, walk don't run. Stick together. Turn off your phone while out in the street to avoid surveillance of your locationand so as not to have your unlocked phone taken by the authorities or other bad actors. Try your best not to stick out in a crowd. Cover up tattoos with clothing or body paint. Cops will use footage from the protest to try to identify you. Wear clothes that are good for moving quickly. Avoid wearing jewelry and wear closed toe shoes. Wear your mask at all times, even if you're talking to someone in order to guard yourself against surveillance, covid 19, pepper spray, and tear gas. Avoid wearing contact lenses. Bring goggles of some kind in case of tear gas or pepper spray. Consider wearing bike helmets as police often cause head injuries with batons and other weapons. Don't take photos or video of people doing anything illegal or with their face uncovered. Whenever possible, film the cops, not the protesters. ONLY PUT WATER IN YOUR EYES. Don't use milk or baking soda or anything else.Clean water is the safest thing to use at a protest. If possible, bring a waterbottle to drink from and a water bottle to flush out eyes of any comrades who are maced or tear-gassed. And white comrades are encouraged to follow the lead of black and brown comrades, as they bear the brunt of state brutality. Public education is at the top of everyone's minds today! The teachers strike had everyone in Los Angeles in their feelings - including us. Listen to the episode to hear about a social media flare-up between UTLA and Hood Digest. We set the record straight on some things! Our guest is LAUSD Board President Mónica García who blessed us all with her wisdom about LA Unified's advances towards education justice and properly serving our students - the ones that are often neglected, underserved and taken for granted! Monica breaks down the relationship between California's defunding of public education and how it impacts politics at LAUSD! ABOUT OUR GUEST Mónica García proudly represents Board District 2 in the Los Angeles Unified School District where she has galvanized the L.A. Unified school community to take aggressive action to reach 100% graduation and break the cycle of poverty by ensuring that every child can read, write, think, and believe. Since her election to the Board in June 2006, Ms. García and the educational justice movement have successfully championed school reform models that offer students smaller and more personalized settings. These options give school sites the autonomy they need to prepare all students for college or career. To date, more than 250,000 students are now served in this growing portfolio of reform models, which include single-gender academies, partnership schools, in-district teacher-led academies called “pilot” schools that operate under a reform labor contract and charter schools. District-wide, Ms. García led the campaign to pass a $7 billion school bond for the largest new school construction program in U.S. history. In addition, these funds created opportunities to leverage much-needed health and human services through the successful $50 million Wellness Center Initiative. She has increased accountability by spearheading the development of School Report Cards. She has led an aggressive effort to increase equity through a groundbreaking “per-pupil” funding strategy that ensures dollars follow the student to school sites. Her focus on the needs of English Learner students, who make up 25% of L.A. Unified’s student community, has yielded a deep shift in the District’s instructional approach. Additionally, Ms. García has authored School Discipline policies and facilitated cross-jurisdictional partnerships that embrace our students’ desire to learn and our educators’ willingness to teach by implementing Restorative Justice techniques, resulting in reduced suspension rates and increased learning time. This work has resulted in suspension rates falling to less than a tenth of a percent in 2016. Board President García was elected to the Board of Education in June 2006, becoming the third Latina to serve on the Board in its 155-year history. She served an unprecedented six years as Board President, a position to which she was elected by her fellow Board Members. Previously, Ms. García served as an Academic Advisor in South Los Angeles at Foshay Learning Center and Edison Middle School during her six-year tenure with Volunteers of America’s Educational Talent Search Program. Through her work as a guidance counselor, she solidified her belief that when adults offer opportunities and support, every child can learn. Immediately prior to joining the Board of Education, Ms. García served as Chief of Staff to a L.A. Unified Board Member. Her efforts in that role helped lay the groundwork for the construction of 131 new schools and in 2017, all 131 new schools have opened their doors adding over 125,000 new seats for students. Her work also led to the adoption of the A-G requirements that guarantees every student in the district access to a college-preparatory curriculum. Ms. García was born and raised in East Los Angeles. She attended local schools and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. degree in Chicano Studies and Political Science. She earned her Master’s D...

Cindy, who recently wrote the article, Our Grief Is a Starting Point in the Fight Against Fascism, explores the weight of despair in this Trumpian moment, but also inspiring examples of solidarity and mutual aid. Andrew breaks down how Fox News host Tucker Carlson actively supports and enables white nationalism And Jaggi makes the case, again, against liberal civility and for radical authenticity, in the struggle against the far-right. -> Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup111718 ------ Here are other No Borders Media News Roundups: - News Roundup Podcast Ep. 04 (10/03/18): Racism in Quebec & the Election of CAQ Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/electioncaq - News Roundup Podcast Ep. 03 (09/25/18): Resisting the right-wing Ford government in Ontario Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/torontonewsroundup - News Roundup Podcast Ep. 02 (09/18/18): Three anarchists discussing the news (Disaster Relief, Trump Resistance, Anarchy in Teen Vogue, and more) Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup091818 - News Roundup Podcast Ep. 01 (09/09/18) - Prison Strike, Trump Resistance, and more! There were lots of hot topics on tab this week! We just took of few of them and gave you our twist on what WE thought! Kanye West has reportedly designed t-shirts urging Black people to leave the Democratic party? So y’all remember #TurningPointUSA’s #YoungBlackLeadershipSummit that was held in Washington D.C. recently? It’s where #StaceyDash and #BenCarson are speaking and it is catered to young black conservatives. Well, apparently Kanye’s newest clothing design debuted there. The shirts Kanye created say #Blexit on them and supposedly advocate for a black exit, or “Blexit,” from the #Democratic Party, according to Turning Point USA’s communications director, conservative commentator and Kanye’s homegirl, #CandaceOwens. What do we say about this brotha! He needs to get back to his roots; give him a good piece of greasy chiecken, lol. Nicki Minaj is all about taking a lie detector test to get to the bottom of her feud with Cardi B. On Monday (October 29), talk show host Maury Povich offered the Queen mastermind a free test and Nicki accepted. This all may be a publicity stunt...stay tuned for this one! Tyler Perry is saying that in 2019, we’re going to see the last of Mabel Earleane Simmons, otherwise known as the beloved “Madea” character. If you’re a Perry fan, this could be sad news, but if you’re not, well, it could be good news. In the last few years tremendous strides have been made within the beauty industry for women of color. Longtime besties Kimberly Smith and Amaya Smith both had their own successful beauty businesses before they decided to go into business together and provide WOC in the D.C. area with the beauty essentials they need and desire. Together, they have teamed up to bring Brown Beauty Co-Op to Dupont Circle, which will house a mixture of skincare, hair and beauty products specifically for WOC in a 1,000-square foot store located at 1365 Connecticut Avenue Northwest. The space is scheduled to open this December and is sure to be to the delight of many women residents of the D.C. area. CHECK THEM OUT! There are new condoms out that claim that to withstand 1,000 thrusts. The average sexual encounter lasts 19 minutes. Let’s say 25 per cent of that time is foreplay. So that’s almost 15 minutes of sex with around 30-40 thrusts per minute, or 600 thrusts in a session. Also the average sex session ranges from 33 seconds to 44 minutes. Is Hugging another woman's man inappropriate? We flipped this a couple of times but let us know what you think?? Until next Wednesday...see what I'm sayin!!

No Borders Media News Roundup Podcast #2 featuring three anarchists: Kim Kelly (writer and organizer from New York City), Andrew from It's Going Down, & Jaggi Singh from No Borders Media. -> Listen to the podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup091818 On this latest (September 18, 2018) No Borders Media News Roundup Podcast, we feature a conversation between three anarchist media-makers: Kim Kelly (writer and organizer from New York City), Andrew from It's Going Down, and Jaggi Singh from No Borders Media. We discuss Autonomous Disaster Relief in the context of Hurricane Florence, with reference to Hurricane Sandy (2012) and Maria (2017), and a breakdown of the colonial-capitalist exploitation of Puerto Rico. We explore a core topic of these news round-ups: Trump Resistance. We criticize the ruling class appropriation of resistance, and take a critical but open-minded look at the growth of social-democracy on the left in USA, with detailed reference to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and the candidates they've supported, like Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez in New York City. We highlight ongoing examples of autonomous, grassroots resistance, including the Prison Strike, anti-fascist organizing, Occupy ICE actions, various teachers strikes, Indigenous Resistance to pipelines, and more. We get an update about an Occupy ICE comrade from San Antonio, Mapache, who stood up to neo-Nazi violence, as well as to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but was recently deported to Mexico after a months long detention. We muse about the continued relevance of, and increasing interest in, anarchist ideas and practice. This includes the inside scoop on the recent Teen Vogue article on anarchism (written by our guest Kim Kelly). We finish up with a discussion about the necessity and importance of left-wing anarchist media in this current political moment. This news roundup was recorded late on September 18, 2018, for No Borders Media. -> Share the podcast here: https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup091818 [Listen to the previous No Borders Media News Roundup Podcast #1, with El Jones (Halifax), Jaggi Singh (Montreal), Syed Hussan (Toronto) and Harjap Grewal (Vancouver): https://soundcloud.com/nobordersmedia/newsroundup090918] ----- NO BORDERS MEDIA No Borders Media, based in Toronto and Montreal, is an autonomous left-wing media network.
