I wanted to hear about Bryan and Max's recent merger so I had them on to tell me all about it. Bryan's company Aegis is a leader in hedging advisory for commodities; Max's company Encova has a leading technology platform and strong marketing expertise in the physical markets. I'm always skeptical of deals that seem like perfect fits, tons of synergies, asset-less but people based businesses. But this merger seems to have really worked. Cool discussion on culture, fit and complementary skill sets. And of course, having Bryan and Max on, we geeked out on a lot of energy trends - nukes, AI, electricity demand, heck we even chatted about campus protests and the media. These guys are great. In this episode, Chelsy Monie and Dr. Susan Gagliardi (Emory University) discuss, the latter's recent monograph entitled Seeing the Unseen: Arts of Power Association on the Senufo-Mande Cultural "Frontier" (Indiana University Press, 2023) In this book, "art historian Susan Elizabeth Gagliardi examines tensions between the seen and unseen that makers, patrons, and audiences of arts in western West Africa negotiate through objects, assemblages, and performances. Gagliardi examines how ambiguity anchors design of the arts, and she shows that attempts to determine exact meanings miss the point. Specialists across western West Africa construct assemblages, installations, and buildings that hint at the possibility of revelation, but full disclosure remains unattainable. Specific activities and contexts integral to the design and use of the works often leave no visible trace" (IU Press). More about the host of this episode, Chelsy Monie here.

In addition to the huge trophy, Anthony scored a cool hundred grand by winning the event on the lake that he grew up on. Anthony's hard-fought win came through his ability to push the envelope and do things differently. His versatility is a prime reason for his having won two-and-a-half- million dollars on the pro circuits. John Gagliardi won more football games – 489 – than any college coach, ever. Gagliardi set the wins record in 2003, which was his 51st season as the head coach at St. John's College of Minnesota. Gagliardi was famous for his list of “No's," which included no hitting in practice, no playbook, no mandatory weight lifting and never allowing players to call him "Coach." He was simply John. And his keep-it-simple approach just might be the best thing that ever happened to football. Former St. John's quarterback Tom Linnemann joins the podcast to speak at length -- and in highly entertaining fashion -- about the remarkable life of Coach Gagliardi, or John.
