The 2025 Frew annual deserves a stand alone review and we spend a good 70 minutes dissecting it. The theme for this years annual is a monster theme with 8 stories with a mixture of colour & black and white over 220+ pages. What do we like, what do we not like and what rating do we give it? Listen and or watch and find out. Do not remember to let us know what you agree and or disagree with. Annuals are nothing new from around the world with British comics publishing them in hardcover albums during the 1950's to the 1980's as well as other countries publishing them. Frew published their first annual in 1991 and it was an instant hit. Frew published their first one in 1991 and it was an instant hit. Rumours are that it sold out overnight and many collectors bought dozens as investments. Ever since, Frew has released an annual. Bar the odd year (3?), a replica edition of the Frew comics have been released. Loved by some and loathed by others but they are a staple along with the annual.Since the Frew Crew has stood in the gap left by Jim Shepherd, they have released themed annuals with War, artists, Girl Phantom, Cowboy Phantoms, Animals of Edan and now its The Phantom vs The Monsters. For those who want to cherry pick there way through the podcast, we have listed what we disscused and the time stamps. We would however suggest you listen / watch to the whole podcast ;)History & background of the Frew annuals: 2 MinutesOverall thoughts on the annual: 4 Minutes & 30 SecondsStories"The Ghost and the Wolves" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 17 Minutes & 30 Seconds"Nema" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 24 Minutes"Looking Back" by Andrew Constant and Giancarlo Caracuzzo: 29 Minutes"Golem" by Johan L. The 100th iteration of the iconic Supanova pop culture convention, in Brisbane November 2024, was a landmark event, especially for Phantom fans who descended upon the city in numbers. This year's gathering was a celebration of all things Phantom, with a host of activities and special guests that made it an unforgettable experience.Among the highlights were appearances by talented Phantom cover artists Jamie Johnson, Alex Trpcevski, and Lauren Marshall. These renowned artists, each of them stars across many walks of fandom but known by Phantom phans for their work with Frew Publications, showcased their work with a range of prints, comics and commissions available . They each have recent, current, and upcoming covers which really added emphasis to the currency of our favourite character. Lauren, Alex and Jamie participated in an entertaining Phantom-themed sketch-off, much to the delight of fans who got to witness their creative process firsthand while peppering them with questions all the while.Saturday was packed with social activities that brought the Phantom community even closer. The day began with a casual breakfast hosted by Chris and Kim Hill, where fans were treated to informal catch-ups and a delightful brekky to accompany a tour of Chris' Minor and Major Treasure Rooms in their newly established Skull Cave. It was a delight to see Chris' thoughtful displays of some incredibly rare and diverse Phantom memorabilia and connect over our shared passions. The evening saw the inaugural Brisbane Phantom Phans' Dinner, coordinated by the extraordinary Christopher Schaffer. This intimate gathering was set in a wonderful atmosphere, with a delicious menu and excellent company. A poignant toast was made to departed Phantom luminaries, including Lee Falk, Jim Shepherd and Richard Fry. Another highlight of the evening was a question and answer session with Shane Foley, Frew cover and story artist, who shared insights into his work and experiences, as well as passing some of his original art around for all to see. We're pleased to report that most of it got returned to him! Attendees were delighted to hear from Shane, making the dinner an even more memorable event.Brisbane Supanova 2024 was more than just a convention for those of us with purple in our veins. Thanks to Christopher's initiative and the support of others, it was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Phantom and the vibrant community that continues to celebrate this beloved character. For those who couldn't attend, be sure to listen to the related podcast, where you can hear interviews with the three artists at Supanova, their sketch-off, and the Q&A with Shane Foley at the dinner. Here's to many more gatherings and the continued adventures of the Ghost Who Walks!Support the show

The woman lost her lower left arm and suffered "significant trauma" to other areas of her body, officials said at a Friday afternoon news conference. The mother of one of the teens said the girl's hand had been taken and her right leg had to be amputated. Both incidents happened between Miramar Beach and Panama City Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Beaches in Walton and Bay counties were closed Friday and reopened Saturday morning, with warnings. The Walton County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife monitored the shoreline by boat through the weekend. (Click Here for Full Article) From www.news5cleveland.com: North Olmsted officials held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to shed light on what happened in the minutes leading up to the fatal stabbing of a toddler in the Giant Eagle parking lot. According to North Olmsted Police Detective Sgt. Matt Beck, the suspect, 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, was at the Volunteers of America store, which is a thrift shop adjacent to the grocery store, where she obtained some sort of kitchen knife. It's unclear if she paid for it or stole it. Ellis then left the store, walked over to Giant Eagle, located in the 27000 block of Lorain Road, just after 3 p.m., and approached the 38-year-old mother, who was pushing her 3-year-old Julian Wood in a grocery cart as they were nearing their vehicle. Ellis allegedly stabbed the woman and Julian multiple times and walked off. The entire attack unfolded quickly, Beck said. (Click Here for Full Article)
Riding Shotgun With Charlie #183 Jim Shepherd The Outdoor Wire, Publisher At SHOT SHow 2023, I was in the media room with my good friend, The Pen Patriot, John Petrolino. We decided to only have a half a cup of coffee before we hit the SHOT floor. We ran into Alan Gottlieb and he asked if we were going to be around, he wanted to talk with us. We told Alan we would be there. When Alan walked away, we looked at each other and said “Let's have a full cup”. While we were listening to Alan tell stories, Jim Shepherd came over. John & I didn't know him, but Alan introduced us and said he would be a great guest in the stagecoach. We swapped contact info and I said I would be in touch next time I'm heading to Nashville. When I reached out to Jim, he said he would like to be on the show. Jim and I were going to meet at a burger shop in Murfreesboro, TN, but they were closed for the week. He's got so many amazing stories. He has employee badge #7 from CNN so he had a professional relationship with Ted Turner.. He did radio talking about financial news. He was an on air anchor for a while. He's been involved with The Golf Wire and The Golf Channel. He used a term I never heard of before, a post gun. I had no idea what it was. He said his dad would buy some guns that may have been in rough shape. If he wasn't confident about their condition, his dad would tie the gun to a post, put a string on the trigger, then they would hide behind some trees or some cover and pull the string. If the gun fired, it was good. If it didn't, at least they had cover. He's always been a gun guy but like many, there are times in his life where he was less involved with them. He was filming a commercial with Tiger Woods in Florida and the weather was not cooperating. So they were just hanging out. Tiger asked him if he was going to the gun show in town. Jim made some calls and found out it was SHOT Show. Being in the media, he was able to finagle some passes and he recorded some interviews. At the time, he was publishing The Golf Wire. When he went into the media room at SHOT Show, he saw there were stacks of magazines and CDs with all the catalogs and information on them. He took The Golf Wire idea and tweaked it a bit for the shooting industry. He took his computer, added an image, added some ipsum lorem, and showed several gun industry businesses what they would be missing. He got them to sign up that day. And boom! The Outdoor Wire was created. That was 23 years ago. Now everyone who is in the know gets whichever Wire suits them. There's about 10 wires you can subscribe to and get in your mailbox. What I really enjoyed about my time with Jim is his stories. He's an amazing guy with incredible stories. He flew to Tulsa for a job interview. He saw the city and knew, coming from New York City, that he didn't want to work there. He called the person he was going to meet and canceled the interview while he was at the airport and took the next flight back to New York. The man he was going to meet was thankful because that was the only day he was able to golf and now he had what I call “the gift of time”. Jim has taken chances. He's been around the world. He's done some amazing things that he told me over lunch, which I can't repeat. I want to get the stories out about gun owners, which of course, Jim is. But I also want to hear about adventures and when people go out on a limb and try things that they don't know how they're going to end up. And they make them just fine. He's got a ton of these experiences in life. I'm glad I got some of them, on and off film. Favorite quotes: “My definition of an anchor is the thing that holds you in place and impedes any progress. But it also holds you on the bottom and keeps you from going.” “I've once again turned a hobby into work.” “Somebody figured out they needed it, and I haven't had to look for a job in years.” “I never set out to be anything other than a reporter.” “Everything happens for a reason, you may not know the reason, you may never know the reason.” “Sometimes the things you don't get are better than the things you get.” The Outdoor Wire https://www.theoutdoorwire.com/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. OK, we won't really, but we've got a special two parter for you this week, as we discuss our favourite Scottish albums with JIM SHEPHERD from The Jasmine Minks! Aberdeen, Scotland's Jasmine Minks were one of Creation Records' earliest signings, scoring two UK Top 30 indie singles ("What's Happening" and "Cold Heart") and sharing the stage with the likes of Jesus And Mary Chain and Primal Scream. Minks' singer/ songwriter/ guitarist Jim Shepherd is back with a brand new solo album, The Circle, now available on Spinout Nuggets. For the record, Shepherd has assembled an indie supergroup featuring Dave Morgan (The Loft, the Weather Prophets, Subway Sect) on drums and production, Frank Sweeney (The June Brides) on strings and keyboards and Arash Torabi (The June Brides, The Distractions, Beat Hotel) on bass, with guest vocals by Tommy Reid (The Jasmine Minks), Beth Arzy (The Luxembourg Signal, Jetstream Pony), Aberdeen's Vapour Trails and Marianne Dissard. “The Circle” The singer/guitarist Jim Shepherd is probably best known for being a part of the legendary indie Scottish outfit the Jasmine Minks. One of the first bands signed to Alan McGee's Creation Records, the ‘Minks put out a handful of albums, including classics like Another Age and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 All Good Preachers Go To Heaven. They played with bands like the Violent Femmes, Jesus and Mary Chain and The Go-Betweens, recorded a Peel Session, got tons of critical acclaim and got airplay on college stations all across the U.S. The band went on hiatus in 2001, reformed in 2010, played sporadic gigs here and there since then, put out a handful of new singles and have a new album brewing as we speak. In the meantime, Shepherd's first solo album has just hit shelves. Titled The Circle, Shepherd's band for the record includes members of The Loft, The Weather Prophets, June Brides and The Distractions. A ferocious and thoughtful collection filled with indie rock stomp, melodic mod hooks and introspective ballads, The Circle is stirring, satisfying and altogether thrilling work. www.jimjasmine.bandcamp.com www.bombshellradio.com www.alexgreenonline.com Stereo Embers: The Podcast Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine/com

The Jasmine Minks special with Jim Shepherd in conversation with David Eastaugh Formed in Aberdeen in 1983, the band were initially a quartet of Jim Shepherd (guitar/vocals), Adam Sanderson (vocals/guitar), Martin Keena(bass guitar), and Tom Reid (drums/vocals). After sending a demo tape to Melody Maker, the band were recruited by Alan McGee to record for the fledgling Creation label. Their first single, "Think!" was recorded for £50 at Alaska Studios, Waterloo. The 4 piece line up was augmented by keyboards from Dave Musker, and the single produced by Joe Foster. The small brown plastic electronic organ was the same one that had previously been used on "Blue Boy" by Orange Juice. Prior to recording, Sanderson had been listening to the Buzzcocks' Spiral Scratch EP, and repeated the two note refrain from "Boredom" at the end of "Think!". Later, Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice was to reference "Boredom" and repeat the same two note refrain on Orange Juice's hit single "Rip It Up". "Think!"/"Work For Nothing" was released in March 1984, and reached single of the week status, jointly with The Pastels single that Alan McGee released at the same time.

Today, we’re going to tell you about the World Affairs Council, about the programs we’re building to keep you connected to global issues, and we’ll have a discussion of the events that are shaping developments in Nashville and the elements that will make up the “new normal.” With me today are several members of the World Affairs Council board in addition to President Pat Ryan, a former Navy intelligence officer. Here today are Jim Shepherd, Chairman of the Council board and former president of a company with international reach; Ambassador Dick Bowers, a career diplomat and former US Ambassador to Bolivia; and John Scannapieco, an attorney at Baker Donelson and chair of the firm’s global business team. John is an expert on international commercial relationships, especially with the Far East. Freight capacity reductions. 20:14 Countries cutting off export of medical supplies. Lack of multilateralism affecting ability to fight the pandemic. 21:15 Do we have the global institutions needed to fight the pandemic? What do we need to build? Dean. 22:29 Building higher walls is not a solution. Ryan 23:30 Most existential crisis faced since WWII. U.S. became a global leader in response. Current paucity of leadership. World becoming more fractured and fragmented. Amb Bowers not optimistic about global outlook. 25:30 Are we seeing a reordering of the global institutions? Shepherd 26:02 Wrong thing when we’re competing with our allies for scarce resources instead of mobilizing America’s industrial might. Bowers 26:50 We’re in for a long troubled time. Strongmen. Food shortages. Bowers. 27:20 We’ll be seeing changes in global commerce, supply chains, global stocks. Change in who people look to for leadership. Unless things change it’s not going to be the United States. Scannapieco. 28:32 Possibly the final piece in nations deciding who to follow. 29:09 Signs of higher inclination to pull up the drawbridge in the international scene. Bowers 31:02 Can’t imagine this retreat from leadership is what most Americans want. “Lord of the Flies” scenario. We used to see marshaling of effort. Scannapieco 32:57 Summing up. Implications are enormous. Need better international system. Issues will be discussed constantly. World Affairs Council has strong role to play. Dean 34:17 Last points? People need to be knowledgeable about these issues. 35:06 World Affairs Council programs ahead. “Zoom world.” Global Nashville with Karl Dean, Global Dialogue, Global Engagement. Contact Patrick Ryan (931-261-2353 / patryan@tnwac.org) Ralph Schulz was named president and CEO of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerceby the Chamber’s board of directors in November 2006, following a 30-year career in nonprofit management, marketing and fundraising. In taking the position, he accepted a leadership role at one of Middle Tennessee’s oldest and largest business federations, an organization dating back to its founding in 1847. During his tenure, the Chamber has played a key role in helping the region emerge from the 2007 recession to a period of unprecedented growth with a business relocation and expansion strategy known as Partnership 2020. Additionally, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce was the lead organization in the creation of the nationally recognized Nashville Entrepreneur Center and the passage of a public referendum supporting construction of the Music City Center convention facility. Since Schulz has taken on the role of president and CEO, the Chamber has also led the movement to improve public school performance through the creation of the Academies of Nashville, established the Moving Forward initiative to ensure the creation of a regional transportation solution through a cohesive community effort and developed into a respected publisher of data on the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area with the annual publication of the Vital Signs report. In 2009, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce was named “Chamber of the Year” by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), recognizing the Nashville Chamber’s organizational excellence, service to members, development of leaders and volunteers and its impact on key community priorities. The ACCE award referenced the Nashville Chamber’s role in the creation of Nashville for All of Us,a campaign made up of community leaders aligned to defeat a 2009 charter referendum which would have prohibited Nashville city government from conducting business in a language other than English. The Chamber was also praised for its creation of A Leading Edge, a broad range of programs aimed at helping Chamber members navigate the turbulent waters of the recession.
