In this episode we are joined by Laura Claxton - a comedy writer who has written gags for some of the biggest names and programmes in British Comedy. We explore Laura's late autism discovery as a 30 something woman, and her lifetime of struggles that she has never shared publicly, until now. Laura discovered very early on her life that if she could be 'the funny one' and make people laugh that she would be ok. Little did she know that her trauma response would see her decades later rapidly making a name for herself as one of the go to voices in British Comedy - we are talking The Jonathan Ross Show, The John Bishop Show, Alan Carr, Celebrity Juice - to name a few. And when you consider that comedy is a hard industry for a woman anyway to move up in, now imagine being an autistic woman in that industry. Ranganathan zegt in een van zijn stand-upcomedyshows: ‘She is a wonderful woman, my mother, but she doesn't consider me to be a proper Asian. My mum calls me a coconut. I don't know if you've heard of this term? Brown on the outside white on the inside, that's what my mum calls me. And the reason my mum calls me a coconut is because I'm originally Sri Lankan, my mother tongue is Tamil, and I cannot speak it. The reason I cannot speak it is because my mum and dad never spoke it to me when I was groing up, and now my mum blames me for it.' In 2016 werd Romesh geïnterviewd in The Jonathan Ross Show op de Britse zender ITV. Presentator en collega-comedian Jonathan stelde hem een vraag over zijn achtergrond: ‘You were a maths teacher, weren't you? Did you enjoy teaching? Was it an exciting experience? To help shape young minds, to push them towards a brighter future, that must be a lovely feeling?' De ongeïnteresseerdheid druipt van het gezicht van Romesh af, wat nog eens wordt benadrukt door zijn zware brilmontuur en door zijn luie oog, dat half dichtzit. Hij vertrekt geen spier en geeft als antwoord: ‘The truth is: I did love teaching. But the problem with teaching for me is that it's all about the children. And I wanted to do something that's all about me.'

Join us for a silly chat about what makes Desiree funny, whether she’ll get laid at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, and her new Netflix show with Seann Walsh. There’s also a bit where we try to explain Woolworths to an American.Music by Harry Harris. Recorded at Acast and produced by Hannah Varrall. Luke Perry, Gone Too Soon

Luke Perry has left us way too soon. Many people who worked with Perry, who died of a massive stroke at the age of 52, are heartbroken and grief-stricken. Riverdale has shut down so that the cast and crew can mourn Perry, who played Archie's father Fred Andrews. I'm even broken up about it, and I met Perry once, for maybe 3 minutes, over 20 years ago. It turns out that it's way to easy for the good to die young, and while you should always appreciate your life and your friends and loved ones, read this if you're wondering why strokes are even more dangerous for young men like Perry than for the elderly, here's the very sad explanation: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2019/03/04/luke-perry-death-stroke-middle-age-adult-centers-disease-control/3057585002/ In happier news, the world premiere of Captain Marvel is tonight (even though there was already a world premiere in the UK, but everything on that side of the pond is a bit confusing at the moment - not that we in the US have any claim of normalcy). While they were overseas, Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson appeared on the Jonathan Ross Show. Ross, a lifelong comics fan, enjoyed Larson and Jackson's take on the song "Shallow" from A Star is Born. You can watch that here: https://youtu.be/3BucpXwaZHg And for the spoiler-ific concept art from Captain Marvel, that suggests a huge secret that could change everything about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's past and future, check this out: https://www.cbr.com/captain-marvel-concept-art-fury-skrull/ Thanks for checking out tonight's episode - make sure to subscribe to the show, and to leave ratings and reviews! 52: Seann Walsh - The (Absolute Master) Comedian

Seann Walsh is a regular face on British TV. You’ll have seen him on Saturday night’s sports panel show Play To The Whistle and as team captain on comedy quiz show Virtually Famous. Other recent TV appearances include Live At The Apollo, the Jonathan Ross Show, Tonight at The London Palladium, Channel 4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Alan Carr: Chatty Man and Russell Howards Stand Up Central. This guy is everywhere! But there’s good reason for it. For however disheveled he may be, the Foster's Comedy Award nominee is also one of the hottest comics in the UK right now and also taking America by storm. Last week Seann made his big debut on America’s popular late night talk show Conan O’Brien. Not bad for having only been in the country for a week! With a keen observational mind, Seann Walsh can spot the absurdity in everything and convert it to perfectly delivered stand-up comedy. You might have seen Seann on TV, but he’s something else live – pacing the stage, working the room and reducing crowds to hysterics. Even if he’d probably rather be at home watching Sky Sports News. In this episode Seann chats to Caroline Feraday and Claire Bullivant about starting young in the playgrounds, coping with nerves, his genius Michael McIntyre impression and being an absolute master… Find out more about Seann Walsh on these links: https://seannwalsh.com https://www.facebook.com/seannwalshcomedy https://twitter.com/seannwalsh Make sure you also check out Seann’s podcasts on iTunes News-ish and Film-ish Please visit our sponsor Beach Financial Group. The song this week is from and album I produced a while back called Stars Over 45...with original tracks...this one is called The Ballad of John Wayne and is a tongue in cheek look at this "hero"....for a guy who never did his national service he sure won a lot of wars and made sure the west was won etc etc...even the Yanks regard him as some sort of hero...which says it all. I can't stand Morrisey or his terrible songs which sound like he's making them up as he's going along BUT....his latest record goes on about not watching the news for various reasons...I couldn't agree more BUT I still can't stand him !!!....I watched Tina Turner on the Jonathan Ross Show...now SHE is the real deal...I am a massive fan...she is fantastic with a voice to match...she has retired but is over here to promote the musical based on her life...the lady ROCKS !! On the subject of the rubbish news we have been bombarded with sexual harassment claims both in Hollywood and Parliament...who cares??...this is NOT national news...some alleged drunken behaviour 15 years ago by Kevin Spacey is NOT news...it belongs in a cheap gossip magazine so those with no life at all can read all about it...I AM NOT REMOTELY INTERESTED....I think the TV news is run by school kids going through pubity....forget killings and war torn sections of the planet let's have a headline story of some politician allegedly brushing up against some highly sensitive female looking to make some money from her story...allegedly. Adam Sandler was on the Graham Norton Show....he put his hand on Clair Foy's knee...as a friendly gesture .. which is how SHE saw it...WOW all hell broke loose....all the sheep were texting in complaining...what it has to do with them is beyond me...which shows how ridiculous the whole thing is getting. Even more ridiculous was another stupid news item whereby an ethnic woman regarded dressing kids up in Halloween costumes from other countries was RACIST....I have now heard it all...so now I must re-assess my outlook on life...I must apologise for being white...I must hope I have not had any office banter with the opposite sex in the last 50 years...I must be sure I don't accidentally make physical contact with a female unless it is on the tip of her toe or the very top of her head...and I MUST lose any sense of humour and NOT admire women even though they wander round making themselves as sexy as possible...because that is NOT why they do it...is it? finally....we are approaching Bonfire Night....which incidentally I see no point in whatsoever...total waste of money...but appreciate it gives the majority the opportunity to to oggle up at the sky...not to mention the injuries which will be obtained...but we need to know the true meaning of November 5th....so there is a three part drama on BBC all about the gunpowder plot with Guy Fawkes...I have watched the first two episodes and am none the wiser...I may as well watch a programme on quantum physics...what a load of rubbish.....I think they have...dare I say it...lost the plot.
