It's TIIIIIMEEEEE for Everything Is Content - Happy Friday EIC heads, we did it, another week bites the dust.As HUGE Motherland fans, we were eagerly anticipating the new BBC spin off Amandaland. The sitcom, produced by another love of our life, Sharon Horgan, follows Amanda (the leader of the alpha-mum's from the original show, with her perfectly blow-dried blonde hair, insufferable lack of self-awareness and yet somehow endearing charm) who is now divorced and has re-located from Chiswick to South Harlesden with her teenagers. She deals with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco-anxiety, as well as establishing herself as an interiors influencer with her new business ‘sensuous'. Joanna Lumley, who plays Felicity, Amanda's mother, is her best self as an ab-fab-esque ex model. The show has ginormous boots to fill, so we ask, has it lived up to the hype?Next up - this year's Grammys... Two people who apparently did not stay long enough to enjoy themselves were Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and his wife Bianca Censori, who showed up, stood for photos and then were apparently- if rumours are to be believed- asked to leave the ceremony following Bianca's outfit reveal. We discuss our reaction to her fit - or lack there of - and ask whether this is a sign of something horrible and sinister happening in front of our eyes, or if it's just a display from two people who are equally invested in giving us all a good show.Lastly, one of the more gorgeous moments from the Grammy's, was Tampa rapper Doechii getting her well-deserved flowers, winning best rap album and in the process becoming one of three women to win the award. We discuss her beautiful speech, her sensational lyricism, and why we are so pleased to have her in our ears.Aaaand, if you're happy to have us in your ears... a 5* review wherever you listen would mean the world, Thank you so much in advance

Sharon Horgan is a writer, actor and director. She has an uncanny ability to craft complex, compelling and heartfelt characters who find comedy even in the darkest of situations: just like in her hit series Bad Sisters - which has won a Peabody Award and four Emmy nominations. You'll also know her from the BAFTA-nominated show Pulling, plus starring and writing in the critically-acclaimed shows Catastrophe and Motherland. Her failures include dropping out of art college and drama school, a failed audition and finally - a big one - her marriage. Have something to share of your own? I'd love to hear from you! Editor - Derek Holland In the ever-evolving landscape of television, few series manage to capture the complexities of human emotions while maintaining an appealing balance between humor and gravity. He also talks about the challenges of working remotely in Season One during COVID-19, and the evolution of his role from a latecomer in the first season to leading the editing team in Season Two. The discussion touches on the balancing act between comedy and drama, the intricate storytelling, and the importance of authenticity and cultural nuances in the series. Additionally, Derek highlights the pivotal moments and significant scenes that shape the narrative, offering a glimpse into the meticulous work that goes into creating a compelling TV show. This week we have Irish comedy royalty round for dinner, the gorgeous Sharon Horgan. Sharon popped to New Cross and brought her two gorgeous daughters with her. Mum made a Salmon en croute, and I made a Pannetone Bread and Butter pudding. We learned all about Sharon growing up in pubs in Hackney and Ireland, living in squats and being fed by Hare Krishna, writing and working with friend of the pod Rob Delaney on Catastrophe, filming Bad Sisters in Ireland and creating Motherland and brand new spin off Amandaland (which we're very excited for!). Sharon is a total delight, and has co-created some of our favourite series on the telly. Bad Sisters is currently in it's second series and is streaming on Apple TV+ Hosted on Acast. Sharon Horgan has spent decades creating hilarious TV and compelling women characters at every stage of life. In the BBC comedy Pulling, she captured the confusion of early adulthood. Young parenthood was the subject of Amazon Prime’s Catastrophe. And HBO’s Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, focused on the dissolution of a marriage. Her latest project, Bad Sisters, premieres its second season this week on Apple TV+. Horgan sits down with Apple News In Conversation host Shumita Basu to talk about bringing realistic women onscreen, the delicate balance of writing comedy and drama, and why menopause might be the most challenging life stage of all.

Matt and Dawn are back to review four brand new shows available this week. It's a very Apple TV+ heavy week with the return of The Garvey sisters in Sharon Horgan's brilliantly dark comedy Bad Sisters. There were questions about whether we needed a second series of this brilliant show, and Matt and Dawn address those in the review of the first episode of the new run. Then there's Apple's spooky drama Before, starring a very restrained Billy Crystal as a grieving child therapist who encounters a troubled young boy who he may have a connection with. Also on Apple, the Spanish drama, You Would Do It too, is a heist drama with a difference. Finally, the pair look at Sky's new take on The Day of the Jackal led by Eddie Redmayne which moves at a slower pace than you might expect.

Sharon Horgan has a resume packed with award-winning comedy, but when it came to crafting Bad Sisters (Apple TV+, November 13) she had to find the right balance. That's because “a very difficult subject matter,” about Irish sisters who plot to murder the abusive husband of one of the women, had to “sit alongside quite a farce.” Adapted from a Belgian series, Horgan took “some of the murders out, and I put more of the sisters in, and more of the effects watching your family member go through this.” “I think you can take chances in the script with where you choose to have a laugh or to release the pressure, or just have something really sort of out-and-out stupid.” Now in its second season, even though that husband is out of the way, after the Peabody Award-winning and Emmy-nominated first season, that doesn't mean things have gotten easier for the sisters. “Life just doesn't become hunky-dory, you've got this poison you're still carrying it around.” For Horgan, she's particularly proud that she was able to find that delicate balance of tone.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Bad Sisters grabs viewers' attention because it's about four sisters plotting to kill their brother-in-law, and it starts with his funeral. So the question is: “How did he die?” This is what drives viewers to keep watching. So how can you get your audience invested in your content? What question do you want to inspire them to ask?Know your target. This is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but just like the sisters truly knew their brother-in-law and all the ways they could potentially do him in, so should marketers get to know their audience so they can appeal to them. Brian says, “The sisters do a lot of research and they really know their target audience. Like, what does JP like to eat? What does he like to drink? If you were to poison him, how would you do that? So they really do research, like, ‘What are the ways that we can do this and get away with it, and free our sister from the prison of her marriage?' So they really do their kind of their targeting and their research, which I think any good marketer does.”Do trial and error. Try different marketing strategies and keep dialing it in based on data you get from the tests. Brian says, “[The sisters] do that right throughout the show. Like, they're testing ways to bump this guy off. Some of them end in sort of miserable failure and some of them have some potential of succeeding and you're never quite sure. Not unlike a lot of digital campaigns, where you're trying to find that perfect balance and the right approach.”Quotes*”I think for marketers, if you're not pushing the envelope, testing new messaging and testing new approaches to your website, conversion, optimization, your customer journey, your buyer's journey, then you're not trying hard enough. You're not getting enough data from the market to optimize and improve.”*”In a B2B context, it is tough to really identify a villain. And that kind of marketing turns me off. Some companies will identify their competitors as villains and really go after them. As a marketer, I would say instead of identifying your competitors as a villain, which I think is a mistake, you look at either the cost of doing nothing, or like, ‘What is the counterpoint to your mission?'”Time Stamps[0:55] Meet Brian Finnerty, CMO at D2L[3:02] D2L and Brian's Role as CMO[4:04] How Bad Sisters was created[9:30] Authenticity and Cultural Representation[22:18] B2B Marketing Takeaways from Bad Sisters[22:21] The Importance of a Good Hook[23:00] Research and Targeting in Marketing[24:08] Trial and Error in Marketing[28:30] Creating a Great Villain[33:48] Brand and Content Strategy[36:10] Effective Content Marketing[38:34] Leveraging Content Across Teams[42:58] Favorite Campaigns and Final AdviceLinksConnect with Brian on LinkedInLearn more about D2LAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” is a 2010 black comedy television series created by and starring David Cross that aired on IFC (US), & More4 (UK). The show follows Todd Margaret, an inept American office temp who, through a series of misunderstandings, is promoted to head the London sales team for an energy drink called Thunder Muscle. The series received mixed reviews, with praise for its dark humor and David Cross's performance, but some criticism for its sometimes uncomfortable and cringe-inducing situations. On paper this looks like a show that's right up the S1E1 boy's alley, but will it meet expectations or is there a reason none of them ever saw it? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode, "In Which Claims Are Made and a Journey Ensues". You've seen Sharon Horgan's brilliant sitcom Pulling, right? If you haven't, please do go watch it immediately *waits impatiently, tapping foot* Okay! How good is Tanya Franks in it?!? SOOOO good. Which means you'll understand why our Hannah has been champing at the bit for nigh on a decade to get an interview in. And here she is: Tanya Franks chatting to Hannah about accents, marathons, free speech, her current role in Power of Sail at the Menier Chocolate Factory and, of course, the joy and chaos of Karen in Pulling. Another brilliant woman? But of course – have two. It's been a while, but Liz Buckley, our resident font of all music knowledge, is back and she's explaining to Mick why we should all love Loretta Lynn. Lynn might not have called herself a feminist, deeming the label too exclusive, but sweet Lordy, she was a shot in the arm for women in the very male, very conservative world of country music. Get your camel toe out for the lads! In Jenny Off the Blocks, Jen's looking at Nike's new Olympics wear for Team America (fuck yeah!). And in Rated or Dated, can a satire satirise something before it's even happened? Here's looking at you, 1999's Election. Does your kid refuse to do any chores around the house and if they do, it's a HUGE deal? Was your kid an angel last week but now won't listen to a word you say? Take a deep breathe. The kids back at school. Now it's time to examine what the hell happened over the midterm. Jarlath and I have a banger episode to help you make sense of it all.Question 1- No matter how much they might want you to believe it, getting your child to pull their weight around the house is not a violation of child labour laws. If you're raising your children on a farm how do you get them to be stake holders in the farming process? Motivating our kids to be active participants in how the family runs it's day to day is a major issue in almost every house. Have we unwittingly raised entitled kids who don't think they have to help out in the home? Children who don't even consider that to be one of their responsibilities? How can we get that them involved and get everything back on track. Questions 2- The Terrible Threes are a real thing. This week we hear from a mom whose behaviour has flipped upside down. She's gone from being overly obedient toddler to a completely independent young woman toddler who can't be reached. Tantrums for days and a mom struggling to cope. How can we help her and get her three year old to be reasonable and approachable again? Question 3- Picky eating kids are a dime a dozen but that doesn't have ot be a reality we accept. Today we hear from another exhausted mom who is worried about how little her kid eats. Tune in to hear how Tina's Tapas technique can change your life! No exaggeration this technique works every single time. Thank you for listening in, subscribing and spreading the word. Sharon Horgan (2023 Emmy nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress and Writing in a Drama Series) can't seem to stop creating television shows. From ‘Pulling' to ‘Catastrophe' to ‘Divorce' to ‘Motherland' to ‘Shining Vale' to her latest, the Apple TV+ comedy thriller ‘Bad Sisters,' she is one of the most prolific TV showrunners in the game.
