Movement.org has two primary foundations: a commitment to cities and a commitment to prayer. When Josh Miles took the reins of the organization the first of this year, he was following in the footsteps of founder Mac Pier. Among many other projects, Mac co-founded the first Movement Day in 2010 with pastor and author Dr. Tim Keller. Josh was chosen for his post in part due to his balanced background both in the faith and business communities. He helps build connections between leaders across industries, connect real research to real problems, and connect the gospel to the context of cities around the globe. The 15th Annual Movement Day NYC is scheduled for October 18 at the historic Bethel Gospel Assembly Church in Harlem. Since the launch of Movement Day in New York, 60,000 leaders from 900 cities have participated in Movement Day gatherings globally. Our first _______ when things happen in life should be _______ toward God. James 5:13-14When you are sick, it is okay to ask others to pray for your healing. James 5:14When we pray for others, we should pray in _______ knowing that _______ belongs to God. James 5:15-16aPrayer is _______ and _______. James 5:16bGod is _______ by _______ prayers for his glory. James 5:17-18James 5:13-20 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. 19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” 11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” 12 The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”To view our video archive of past sermons, click here!

In this episode, we recapped Adam's trip to Hilton Head Presbyterian Church where he visited Josh Miles who is an Accelerator Pro student in Worship Ministry School. Accelerator Pro members get 4 onsite days with a Churchfront team member to optimize their systems, train their volunteer teams, and tweak systems that need attention to get the results of the Worship Ministry School student. If you're interested in having one of our team members come to your church, you can hop on a free Strategy Session by filling out a form at worshipministryschool.com and hop on a call with one of our coaches to help you drill down into what the current problems are in your ministry, assess your goals and what the best course of action would be to get you to achieve those goals. Many of our students actually don't need a ton of new gear, sometimes an adapter here and there, or a new piece of software to streamline some systems, but most ministries don't need tens of thousands of dollars of new gear but rather a better understanding and education on how to use the current capable gear they already have on hand. If you want to see some visuals of Adam's experience, you can checkout the youtube video where Adam recaps his time with Josh. I hope you enjoy Adam's recap of his Worship Tech Makeover at Hilton Head Presbyterian Church. www.worshipministryschool.com

In the history of The Bassett Firm, we have only ever run one advertisement. It was in the bulletin of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Waxahachie, and I don't even think it counts as a proper “ad”. It was a simple notice that - if someone was in a legal bind - our firm would be happy to listen to their issue and point them in the right direction, or, if it was in our wheel-house, do what we could to get their matter resolved. Our firm still takes this kind of pro-bono work seriously, and it's one of the things I'm proud of my team for participating in. After all, you can't have a mission-statement based on the Good Samaritan if you don't watch others actively live it.That's just one of the nuggets of insight I walked away with after my conversation with this week's guest, Josh Miles. Josh Miles is a brand-obsessed Chief Marketing Officer, keynote speaker, photographer, artist, and podcast host who, after co-founding his own firm, MilesHerdon, pivoted towards a career helping others make their creative obsessions their profession.Josh was the CMO for SMPS, the only North American organization for marketing and business development professionals in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industries, and currently serves as the CMO for Codelicious, a startup delivering a comprehensive, full-semester computer science curriculum for grades K-12As a TEDx presenter, Josh speaks coast-to-coast, including hosting the podcasts Obsessed Show and PSM Show. He is also the author of Bold Brand 2.0 - How to Leverage Brand Strategy to Reposition, Differentiate and Market your Professional Services Firm, all while sitting on the advisory board of the Purdue University Lamb School of Communication. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. 8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.We would love to pray for you! We've reached a moment in history as the church that is not unlike moments the church has seen before. “History is the long and tragic story of the fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily… Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture; but groups are more immoral than individuals.” And we've unfortunately seen that in so many of our spaces amongst the Evangelical church in America, especially as it pertains to race. Reading MLK's letter from a Birmingham jail, you couldn't help but notice similarities in the language of his response and the language many black Christians use today. He said, “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that Black people's (and other minor groups') great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says, "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action”…Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will…We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. We must come to see that human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and persistent work of men willing to be coworkers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation.” And it is in many ways, this, that has led so many black Christians to do what the Pass The Mic Podcast calls #LeaveLoud. Shoutout to the Witness Podcast network who inspired this episode's thematic: #LeaveLoud, in which Black leaders and congregants who have chosen to leave homogenous, predominantly white spaces not only decide its time they transition out, but the stories to both call a spade a spade—or racism, racism—and reclaim the dignity lost while being among these institutions that failed to value the fullness of God's image expressed through black and other minority cultures; and choosing to go where that image is not simply tolerated, but truly celebrated and represents a kingdom picture more like the one we all hope for with every tribe, language, people and nation. Today, Myself, Vermon Pierre and John Talley sit with our brother, businesses man and entrepreneur, Josh Miles, who has his own #LeaveLoud story that we believe has something we can all learn from. Enjoy
