Judge Katherine Thomas, a native Houstonian, became the youngest person elected to serve on a District Court in Texas when she won her election for the 184th District Court. Judge Thomas was an intern for the Obama administration and the Harris County District Attorneys office, then served as a District Attorney in Harris County following her graduation from law school. Katherine still calls Houston, Texas home.

You're Special: Daily Reflections from God's Children with "Exceptionalities" by Katherine Thomas LeurckHave you ever seen a wheelchair bound person with a smile bigger than you've smiled all week? Or a child with Down syndrome who is in a perpetual good mood, and you wonder, What's the magic? Those moments are what make this daily devotional quite different. It is inspired by the words and actions of beautiful individuals with exceptionalities. The voices heard from the pages of this book include children with autism, Down syndrome, and cognition delay, to name a few. The language is simple, pure, refreshingly honest and reflects the author's experience with this remarkable community which, some consider to be angels among us. This book is one of the first of its kind because it provides children with exceptionalities a limitless platform to teach and inspire. While often this community is encouraged to "change" or "improve," they are quite perfect just as they are. Chances are if you interact with them, you will walk away in awe of their grounded trust in themselves and others, free of expectations. You will likely have a better day as a result of the interaction. At the center of this book is Drew, who is chronologically 22 years old but intellectually about 7. Every day, Drew passes out handmade rainbows that state, "You're Special."His mission is to remind everyone of their inner beauty that makes each individual special and unique. Let's be eager students of individuals with exceptionalities and their unique experience. They have so much to share, and we have so much to gain! It's where "special" meets truth-and in truth, there is wisdom. Enjoy your 365 days of reflections and embrace Drew's purposeful words: "You're Special.Katherine Leurck admits the raising a child with exceptionalities is not easy. She considers it a journey from understanding, to accepting, and finally celebrating such a beautiful gift from God. Her intent with this book is to share the voices, perspectives, and inspiration of children with exceptionalities, which has taught her so much. Katherine lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband David, and their three children, Andrew, Alexandria and Audrey who are all exceptional in their own unique way.https://www.drewsrainbowsart.com/https://www.amazon.com/Youre-Special-Reflections-Children-Exceptionalities/dp/1977250130/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2OCGWSFSVRA0K&keywords=Katherine+Thomas+Leurck&qid=1678383319&s=books&sprefix=tomorrow+may+be+forever+lost%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C305&sr=1-1
Feedback is one of the most important things that can help you team or business grow. However, it can be one of the most difficult things to give, and especially receive. In this episode, BPN Team Members Jordan Utter, Alex Rodriguez, Katherine Thomas, and Lilly Foster take over the podcast to share what it means to build a “Culture Of Candor,” where feedback is given and received by all team members, no matter where they stand in the chain of command. In this culture, ego must be eliminated and the best idea always wins. Their breakdown of this topic brings great insight into how we can maximize our growth as teams, leaders, and more. It's no secret. Prices for everything that we as consumers are buying these days have risen. Groceries, gas, and yes, even our supplements have seen price increases over the last year or two. Some blame the pandemic, some blame politicians, some blame greedy CEO's and executives. What exactly is the real cause of these increases? In this episode, BPN's CRO, Katherine Thomas, and CFO Josh Holley, join Nick on the podcast to discuss the many factors at play that are causing the prices of consumable goods across all industries to increase. Kat and Josh bring years of experience to the table and are able to provide great insight to how this affects both us as consumers and BPN as a company, and how BPN is positioning itself to continue to raise the standard, bringing the highest quality product to the market, even during these uncertain times. Scott Stark and Katherine Thomas are two of the most adventure seeking people I know! They have been taking on some of Colorado's biggest hikes, skis, mountain bike rides, amongst the plethora of incredible outdoor experiences to be found out here in the West. In this episode we talk all about building a relationship through adventures (and misadventures) in the outdoors, how seeking out times in the mountains and desert bond people and bring them closer together, and why they are so passionate about sharing these experiences together! They also share some really incredible (and oftentimes hilarious) stories of misadventures, like the time Scott thought he was going to be attacked by alligators, a terrifying hut to hut ski, and an easy standup-paddle trip that turned into a 23 mile, sunburned, odyssey. Hope you guys enjoy the episode and that inspires you to share some adventures in the wilderness with the ones you love! In 2020, the legal workplace changed, permanently! Remote work became the norm. Flexible work, for a long time a reality, became a necessity. Work was disaggregated, reaggregated and turned into something completely new. In between, legal businesses scrambled to engage in this new global proof of concept and found along the way that remote and flexible working really did…work! In this podcast, Emma Heuston, Founder & Principal Lawyer, The Remote Expert and Katherine Thomas, CEO, Free Range Lawyers, discussed how and why people are now, and will continue to work, differently. They also shared their experience on turning today's best practices into next practices, for the benefit of your people, your clients, and your organisation. This podcast was part of the CLI-ALPMA Innovation and Legaltech Week 2021 Live program on 10 February 2021. If you would prefer to watch rather than listen to this podcast, you'll find the video in our CLI-Collaborate (CLIC) free resource hub here.

This week's podcast features Katherine Thomas, vice president of business development & marketing of Raleigh-based Alfred Williams & Co., an office furnishings and pre-constructed solutions company. It's the second-largest Herman Miller Dealer in North America. Thomas discusses her career background, the history of the company, and how Alfred Williams & Co. is pivoting during the pandemic. Thomas has a bachelor's degree in business management from Meredith College.
In the eighth podcast in this collection focusing on providing practical support and assistance for those working in the legal ecosystem during this time of extreme change, we discussed with Katherine Thomas, CEO, Free Range Lawyers, Flexible Working in the New World – and what a new world it has become! We kicked off with an explanation of what flexible working is today – it's not the same as it was – it's expanded in application and definition. Katherine analysed how the wide spread application of flexible work, as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, has challenged myths and provided case studies around things like productivity, uptake, and access to talent but, how it's also been important to remember not everyone needs or wants to work this way. Katherine also discussed how the consequences of these wide-spread flexible work arrangements have been far reaching in the legal industry (and all others). The needs/expectations of individual employees have also been reflected in changing customer and business demands – they're all inter-related. And, what is being changed is likewise not just internal to firms/organisations like new business processes and project management, communication tools and expected outputs, but it's also given rise to new customer behaviours and the enhanced use of technology. It's unlikely law firms/organisations will return to the same work environment that they left pre COVID-19, even if they want to (and it's clear many do not), their employees or clients may not accept a reset to the old status quo. In the near future, work may become less about when people return to work and more about how and where! Thank you so much, Katherine – another fabulous thought provoking session! If you would like to listen to Katherine's other podcast in this series on Remote Working…in a crisis, you'll find it here. If you would prefer to watch it, you'll find it here. P.S. This podcast was also recorded as a webinar so if you would like to watch it, you'll find it here.

Firms in Australia are continuing to announce working from home policies for all staff beyond COVID-19 times. Mitch and Nathan discuss what this means for the profession (including positive outcomes for clients) and laugh over a Harvard study endorsing leaving your web camera on all day to prove you are working from home! Katherine Thomas of Free Range Lawyers in Perth, Western Australia, joins the conversation: her entire business revolves around lawyers working remotely. She connects freelance lawyers with firms looking to flex their resource for a certain period of time. As someone who has been working in this ‘remote’ space for years, Katherine has some interesting insight to share.

In the seventh podcast in this collection focusing on providing practical support and assistance for those working in the legal ecosystem during this time of extreme change, we discussed how our world of legal work has been turned upside down with Katherine Thomas, CEO, Free Range Lawyers in Remote Working…in a crisis. Working remotely has been on the agenda for law firms for a long time – not new! Moving your entire workforce to work from home at short notice – that's new! While the initial foray into this world was all about getting the tech connected, setting up the home office, and completing WH&S checklists, as we now know, some weeks in, where we work has become a catalyst for change that runs much deeper. As we undertake our work each day from home, we're witnessing and contributing to not only a proof of concept, but also the global transformation of how law firms can and are operating in a very different way. Working remotely is changing what work we do, how work is produced, how we work together: how we communicate, collaborate and trust. It's also brought about a renewed focus on mental health and well-being. It's challenging mindsets, the status quo, leadership and management structures, styles and even own assumptions. That's what Katherine focused on in this session – context, evidence and highly practical recommendations for leadership, management and individuals - and, in so doing, made it clear that wide scale remote working may have come to many quickly, demanding change, agility and experimentation that some were prepared for but many were not but, it also created a unique opportunity for law firms to embrace the future of work, TODAY! The question for us now is no longer if remote working can “work” (it can) but rather if the legal industry is willing to see this as a catalyst for change in law firms so, when we can return to the office, we make that decision (and many others related to it), because it is the best option, not just because it's what we did before… Thank you Katherine – informative, insightful and practical - we love your work! If you would like to view the webinar for this topic, you'll find it here. You'll find the Free Range Lawyers booklet referred to in this podcast on Remote working success for law firms available to download here.
In the next few podcasts in this series, we'll be focusing on providing practical support and assistance to those working in the legal ecosystem during a time of extreme change. Our hearts go out to our legal community and to every other community – we're all hurting right now and working on how to cope with the COVID-19 global pandemic. We hope you'll find, in these podcasts, words of encouragement, hope and help as you find your way to the other side and the next normal – and, we'll be here for you, as you do. We're starting this group of podcasts by asking an amazing group of law firm leaders, managers and consultants how they are creating a pathway forward for their clients, employees and firms - Leading and Managing their Law Firms in Difficult Times. We spoke with Catriona MacLeod, Director, Cullen MacLeod Lawyers; Marcus McCarthy, Principal, Nexus Law Group; Warrick McLean, CEO, Coleman Greig Lawyers; and Katherine Thomas, CEO, Free Range Lawyers and Managing Director of Katherine Thomas Consulting. Thank you Catriona, Marcus, Warrick and Katherine for your candour and compassion – you are wonderful ambassadors for the legal community and shining examples of why we can be certain our community will survive!

Where are we going to find tomorrow’s leaders? We’ve been doing these podcasts for almost a year now, and as much talking as we’ve done about the future, the missing ingredient in all of those conversations has been leadership. We just haven’t spent much time talking about future leadership, and with 10,000 baby boomers retiring every day, that’s a critical part of becoming future-ready. So this week, we are talking to Emmanuel Gobillot and Katherine Harris, co-authors of Unleash Your Leader: How to Win in Business. “I literally spend hours just staring at my glasswork or my worktable, and think: ‘Ok I’m gonna give it up.’ And then my husband always says, ‘Just go down there and work, go and try this, get in there and immerse yourself.’ You know, I struggle all the time. That’s part of it: it’s pain and pleasure. Pain, pleasure, and definitely passion. And sometimes the pain is worse than the pleasure is, or sometimes the pleasure of something coming out… is wonderful. And, you know, I think that they come in waves, and you gotta ride some waves harder than the others.” Anita Merina, educator and children’s literacy advocate turned glass artist, talks about glass working as a form of magic. When working with glass, she says, there are so many surprises and possibilities that, “you become like the magician, the scientist, the mad scientist…” After 28 years in the education and editorial field and leading the National Education Association’s Read Across America program, Anita Merina picked up glassworking about 10 years ago. She is now following her longtime dream to be an artist with glass as her medium. She is the owner and creative mind behind AMerinaGlassworks and partner with Katherine Thomas in DC Glass Artists. To learn more about Anita and her work, follow her on Facebook at AmerinaGlassworks or on Instagram at Merinaglasswork. Some themes from our conversation include: * The surprising nature of glass * The importance of play * Finding your own unique way in your art form * Finding mentors * Connecting to your heritage through art * Passing on a spirit of creativity and resilience to others
When people hear the term "millennial," they often associate the generation ranging from ages 18-34 as "entitled," "trophy generation," "me generation," and many more subjective and typically negative terms. But is this an accurate reflection of the generation that is likely to make up 33% of the workforce in just a few short years? Lacey Halpern, Katherine Thomas, and Brandon Laws (all Millennials) of Xenium HR discuss why people often get Millennials wrong and how they can be a truly great asset in business. The Great Kat must be worshipped. Media outlets who proclaim The Great Kat to be in the top 50, top 10, top whatever, are wrong. The Great Kat is the best, the fastest, the greatest. She is Beethoven reincarnated. This is not open for debate. You either 'get' what this means, or you do not. "Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason, mastery demands all of a person." -Albert Einstein Read the follow-up email interview below, after listening to the phone interview (the yellow/green play button is at the bottom). Fellow WSCA DJ Kim joined me in the studio for the interview. Email/Requests: blacknightmeditations@msn.com Playlists: http://wsca.radioactivity.fm/show.html?showoid=1242 BLACK NIGHT MEDITATIONS - A heathenish foray along the shining path. Aural ruminations of Black, Death, Speed, Thrash, Doom, Folk, Shred, Power, Prog & Traditional Metal. Tuesday Nights 10pm-2am e.s.t. - WSCA 106.1 FM - Portsmouth, NH USA - Listen online live @ www.wscafm.org ***The Great Kat email interview - 17 Dec 09*** BNM - There were a few things we did not get to discuss during our phone interview. I'd like you to expand on the evolution of your music. Your first 2 albums, Worship Me Or Die & Beethoven On Speed, featured more of a Thrash influence, notably in the riffs. Since your brand of Shred/Classical hadn't fully developed to what it has been over the last decade, can you explain the influence that Thrash Metal had on your early songwriting? Your Metal influences were more traditional, so how much of an influence on your song-writing did Thrash have? Was it a product of the times? Were you at all involved in the New York Thrash scene of the '80s? TGK - The Great Kat High Priestess Of Guitar Shred (http://www.greatkat.com ) got into SPEED METAL after graduating from Juilliard. I liked the power and speed of that music. I decided to mix vicious, speed metal guitar riffs with my Classical Motives. The result was the first Great Kat CD “WORSHIP ME OR DIE!” with it’s RAW, VICIOUS SPEED METAL RIFFS AND CLASSICAL GUITAR SOLOS. The Great Kat’s NEXT CD “BEETHOVEN ON SPEED” was a pure mixture of SHREDDING GUITAR VIRTUOSITY with AUTHENTIC Classical Music from Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov, Chopin, Paganini ALL MIXED with POWERFUL METAL SONGS, like “ULTRA-DEAD” and “KAT ABUSE”! BNM - Much is said about your guitar playing, your violin playing, your image and so on, but I feel your vocals have always been vital to who The Great Kat is. Without those patented Kat shrieks, growls and unique delivery, your music would feel like a symphony without a conductor. My favorite Kat songs tend to be the ones that have the most memorable vocal delivery, especially when you mix the singing and shouting. Would you consider trying new vocal approaches that you have not used in the past? It would be tough to sing over the insanity, but you can easily do it and I want more of those catchy choruses! TGK - The Great Kat’s BRILLIANT music is a TOTAL MULTIMEDIA COMBINATION of CLASSICAL and METAL Virtuosity with SCREAMS, YELLS, BRUTAL SHOUTING and WILD and OUTRAGEOUS IMAGERY—this is the NEW OPERA of the 21st CENTURY!!! NOW CHECK OUT THE NEW “BEETHOVEN’S GUITAR SHRED” DVD: This DVD stars The Great Kat’s Guitar/Violin Virtuosity and finger-blistering guitar shredding of Classical masterpieces and original outrageously theatrical SPEED METAL Wagnerian Mini-Operas. “Beethoven’s Guitar Shred” DVD Features: 7 Outrageous Shred/Classical Guitar Music Videos, including: • “The Flight Of The Bumble-Bee” - At the finger-blistering speed of 300 BPM! • Beethoven’s “5th Symphony” - Metal version of the world’s most famous symphony! • Paganini’s “Caprice #24” – Kat dazzles on this technical virtuoso showpiece on guitar and violin! • Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto #3”- The Great Kat shreds on 6 guitars & 3 violins! • “Torture Techniques” – Watch Kat’s arsenal of Torture devices and abused victims! • Plus MORE Theatrical Metal Madness! 4 Shred BONUS Features: • Hot Kat Shred Photos! Shred Geniuses! Kat Kartoon – A crazy cartoon of The High Priestess of Guitar Shred! DVD Video Clips: http://www.greatkat.com/dvd/dvd.html BNM - Do you own the rights to your first 2 albums that were released by Roadracer? Those albums are hard to find, so a reissue would be great for those who have yet to hear your early material. What is the status of the Total Insanity compilation that features over 50 songs from your discography? It is not available on greatkat.com, nor is the Guitar Goddess ep. How can your worshippers get these releases? TGK - “Total Insanity” is NOT an authorized Great Kat CD and is NOT released by TPR Music. To purchase The Great Kat’s “Worship Me Or Die!” and “Beethoven On Speed” try Amazon.com. “Guitar Goddess” is on TPR Music, but is currently sold out. The Great Kat’s NEW “Beethoven’s Guitar Shred” DVD is available through major retailers (Amazon.com, Best Buy, Target, CDUniverse, Barnes And Noble) and through the Kat Store at http://www.greatkat.com/07/index07.html BNM - Your releases have been issued on vinyl, cassette, cd, and you even released a cd-rom in the mid-90s. Your last 2 releases have been dvds. You seem to want to stay with what is current in promotion, as your online presence has expanded to Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. Will we see any more cd releases, or has the current trend in promotion of music (that sees fewer cd sales) pushed you solely into dvd releases for the forseeable future? TGK - The Great Kat’s SHRED/CLASSICAL GENIUS MUSIC must be SEEN and well as HEARD—that’s why The Great Kat is concentrating on MUSIC VIDEO DVDS!!! Like Wagner’s Operas, you need to get the ENTIRE GREAT KAT EXPERIENCE to understand the REINCARNATION OF BEETHOVEN FOR YOURSELVES!!!!!!!!! There aren't many stations (terrestrial, satellite, internet) who are willing to support music such as yours. Those that do "feature" your work tend to be quite insulting and demeaning. Has this old-school method of promoting The Great Kat been worth your effort over the years? Is it still now? Basically, is any press good press for The Great Kat? TGK - RADIO IS OLD!!! The Great Kat needs to be SEEN to FULLY UNDERSTAND SHRED/CLASSICAL!!!! THAT’S THE MAIN REASON The Great Kat is PRODUCING DVDS!!!!!!!!!!! REVIEWS OF THE GREAT KAT: -"The Great Kat should be feared because her hyper-blasting, neo-classical, whirlwind guitar playing is so precise and intense. This woman really is a better guitarist than most men ever were. Beethoven’s Guitar Shred DVD is a portable clinic of seemingly inhuman guitar antics. Dominating torture, blood, fire, anti-terrorist sentiments – all wrapped in an oddly tasteful, hyper-classical visual feast." - Mark Morton, Heavy Metal Examiner -"The Great Kat named one of the fastest guitar players. Probably the fastest female shredder on the face of the earth. 'Flight Of The Bumble-Bee' at 300 Beats Per Minute. It does not get any faster than that. This ('Beethoven's Guitar Shred' DVD) makes a great stocking stuffer." - Michael Butler, MEVIO Music "The guitarist Katherine Thomas aka The Great Kat is ranked among the fastest metal shredders of all time." - Danny Kringiel, Spiegel Online (Germany) -"Blending the showmanship of metal with the intensive musical construction of classical, Kat has carved out a name for herself in musical history by shredding some of the greatest musical works of our time." - Carly Milne, AOL's Digital City BNM - How do you regard the composer Felix Mendelssohn, given that it's possible J.S. Bach's brilliant music may have been lost to the ages had it not been for Mendelssohn bringing back Bach's compositions to the stage? TGK - Mendelssohn did a great service to society by finding J.S. BACH’S MUSIC and BRINGING it to the masses! THAT’S THE SAME MISSION THE GREAT KAT IS ON—to BRING BEETHOVEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T EVEN KNOW BEETHOVEN’S GENIUS MUSIC!!!!!!!! BNM - You have been motivated to perform music composed by those you consider to be "geniuses." But can we expect The Great Kat's musical tribute to non-composer geniuses such as Galileo Galilei or our founding fathers of the U.S.A.? Certainly you can apply your Shred/Classical style of music in honor of these geniuses as well. Instead of wasting any more of your time on terrorist scum, how about expanding upon the Wagner's War theme and further celebrate our history, or composing music based upon our future through the eyes of the past? TGK - The Great Kat Guitar Shredder’s MISSION is to NOT only UPDATE CLASSICAL MUSIC for the MASSES, but to ALSO TALK ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN THIS TERRORIST INFESTED WORLD—like on my songs “ISLAMOFASCISTS” and “TORTURE TECHNIQUES” from “Beethoven’s Guitar Shred” DVD!!!!!!!!!! BNM - Many of us Kat slaves would like to here much more of your violin playing. Personally, I'd love to hear solo violin pieces. Especially Paganini's Caprice no.1. TGK - The Great Kat’s VIOLIN VIRTUOSITY is heard on the NEW BEETHOVEN’S GUITAR SHRED” DVD—on “THE FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLE-BEE”, PAGANINI’S “CAPRICE #24”, BEETHOVEN’S “5th SYMPHONY” and BACH’S “BRANDENBURG CONCERTO #3”!!!!! On the NEXT Shred/Classical DVD, The Great Kat will be SHREDDING one of THE MOST TECHNICALLY DIFFICULT AND DEMANDING VIOLIN VIRTUOSO PIECES ever written: NICCOLO PAGANINI’S “MOTO PERPETUO” on the GUITAR and VIOLIN, along with works of BEETHOVEN, MOZART and MORE!!!!!! BNM - Thanks for your time, Kat. I'd love to delve deeper into your psyche and find out more about you as a person, but I know if I tried you'd just pummel me into submission. Your boots would be cleaner, and I'd still have no answers. Thank you again for sticking to your guns over the years, and continuing on with The Great Kat's Shred/Classical supremacy. You have my support. TGK - THANKS MARK!! THE GREAT KAT IS THE METAL MESSIAH/REINCARNATION OF BEETHOVEN!
