Today's episode dives into the significant role of apostles both in the early church and in contemporary Christianity, guided by Ephesians 4:11-12. We'll explore the foundational aspects of apostleship, its enduring responsibilities, and the modern implications of this pivotal ministry. Our springboard for today's discussion is: Ephesians 4:11-12: "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." This passage highlights the diversity of gifts provided for the edification and unity of the church, emphasizing the crucial role of apostles.Apostleship is a gift that carries profound responsibilities and a broad scope of influence, tasked with laying foundations, spreading the gospel, and nurturing the spiritual growth of the church across generations and cultures. The Role and Function of Apostles in the Early Church and Beyond:* Foundation Layers: Apostles were primarily responsible for the foundation of the church, spreading the teachings of Jesus and establishing early Christian communities.* Transmitters of Doctrine: They played a critical role in formulating and disseminating Christian doctrine, ensuring the fidelity of the church's teachings to the truth of the Gospel. The Calling and Responsibilities of Modern Apostles:* Church Planting: Modern apostles often engage in church planting and the development of church networks, extending the reach of the gospel globally.* Mentorship and Governance: They provide mentorship to church leaders and may govern large networks of churches, guiding them in spiritual and practical matters.Unpacking Modern Apostleship:* Continuity with Tradition: Today's apostles connect contemporary Christian practice with its historical roots, adapting ancient principles to modern contexts.* Relevance in Today's Church: The ongoing relevance of apostleship is seen in its capacity to address current challenges within the church and society, promoting growth and unity among believers.ConclusionUnderstanding apostleship enriches our appreciation of the church's structure and governance, providing insights into how strategic leadership and foundational ministries contribute to the overall health and expansion of the church body.A Question of the Day: How does the role of apostleship manifest in your church community, and what impact does it have on growth and spiritual development?Growth Challenge: Reflect on the apostolic influences within your church. Identify ways you can support or learn from apostolic leaders in your community to enhance your spiritual growth and contribute to the church's mission.Let's Pray: Lord, we thank You for the gift of apostleship and the leaders who carry this calling. Bless them with wisdom, strength, and guidance as they work to establish Your kingdom on earth. Help us to recognize and support the apostolic work in our midst, that Your church may be continually built up and strengthened. Amen.As we consider the profound impact of apostleship on the church, let us also contemplate our role in supporting and advancing the apostolic mission. Sanctuary…it is perhaps the most controversial and poorly understood aspect of habitat management for wintering waterfowl, yet potentially most important. In Part 2 of our discussion with Dr. Nick Masto and Dr. Abby Blake-Bradshaw, we dig deeper into their study of wintering mallards in western Tennessee, with a focus on the relationship between ducks and sanctuary. How did mallards respond to experimental disturbance, and how did it affect shooting opportunities of hunters? How does the amount and distribution of sanctuary affect mallard movements and habitat use patterns, and did mallards return to the same areas year after year? Does extreme cold weather drive birds south, or does it depend? The answers to these and other questions may surprise you, and you could find yourself questioning long-held beliefs about sanctuary.ww.ducks.org/DUPodcast
Today's episode is all about the government's attempts to jam the square peg of crypto mixers Tornado Cash and Samourai Wallet into the round hole of unlicensed “money transmitters”.But to grasp the full story, we need to understand some basic terms. Like “money transmitter”.Key Points From This Episode:What are (were?) Tornado Cash and Samourai Wallet? What is a “money transmitter”?The regulatory area where crypto guidance from the federal government has been relatively clear and proactive. Why these actions undercut that seeming clarity.A soapbox moment about “due process” and fairness. Lesser scaup are one of several duck species in North America that have experienced long-term population declines, and despite decades of research, the exact cause of this decline remains unclear. Because of its profound importance as a spring stopover site for migrating scaup and other divers, Pool 19 on the Mississippi River has played a crucial role in numerous scientific studies. In this episode, PhD candidate Cheyenne Beach and field assistant extraordinaire Jack Johnson join Dr. Mike Brasher to explain why so many divers show up on Pool 19 each spring; what we hope to learn from long-term banding of scaup, canvasbacks, and redheads; and how an ongoing GPS tracking study is helping understand how the invasive faucet snail may affect scaup health and productivity.www.ducks.org/DUPodcast

Ep #220 - Bourbon Street! One of the highest levels of debauchery you're gonna find in the United States. I went there and learned so much about myself and how differently I see my world, and THE WORLD, now that I am a person in longterm recovery. In today's episode let's dive into what I learned from my trip to Orleans, besides how wise I was to pack some great walking shoes. Having experienced 22-years living my life through my emotional mind - where impulse control was something my friends and I laughed about not having, all the way to having a lack of caring about the consequences around my actions...I know all to well what it is like to blackout in an environment full of predatory hustlers looking to take advantage of people in an inebriated state of mind. We're gonna discuss the triune brain, how the reptilian and mammalian brain will lead you down that dark alley where nothing good happens. I'll pepper in some information on how dopamine and serotonin are the drivers to your impulsive decision making, and then I'll finish by reminding you that if you expect sobriety and recovery to be as amazing as people talk about then you are going to have to push yourself to do things you have never done! Just hit play and let's dive in with our open minds, hearts, and energies bringing everyone into the fold - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now. It is time. It has been time. To live is to shine. Step into the SUN. What is modesty? Far more than clothing! Check it out. What should we wear to church? When should men take off their hats?
Continuing our discussion about etiquette which is often missing in our society today. It's not being passed on to the next generation. Today, we discuss what to do and how to act when we are asked to other people's homes.

In this week's Messy in the Middle episode, Jefi Moultrie and Ed Billings talk with Mario Sikora, Founder and CEO of Awareness to Action International, which provides executive coaching and enneagram-based leadership programs. Mario discusses the three instinctual domains of human behavior: preserving, navigating, and transmitting. He shares how people's biases can affect how they interact with others and how understanding these biases can help build rapport.QUOTES“Do you ever go up to a door and you go to pull it and it doesn't open? So what do we do? We pull harder and we pull harder, and then we see a little sign that says push. Right? This is what we all do. We don't necessarily say, ‘Oh, that didn't work, so let me do the opposite'. We repeat things and we do this with our instinctual bias as well.” - Mario Sikora - Mario Sikora [20:26]“Take a deep breath, don't fall into these habitual patterns, and watch for what is appealing to other people instead of projecting onto them. That is the biggest, biggest thing. The key to this is not to try and use it to manipulate people, but to build rapport so we can help them.”- Mario Sikora [24:04]TIMESTAMPS3:10 Adaptive Strategies5:45 The Enneagram, Instinctual Biases, and Home Decor19:11 Identifying Navigators and Transmitters in Professional Settings20:51 Understanding Instinctual Bias and Building Rapport25:17 Communication Strategies for Business Owners of Different Personality TypesRESOURCESThe Five Dysfunctions of a TeamThe Peak ExperienceThe U.S. Housing Market Has PeakedWhy Rising Mortgage Rates Push Buyers off the FenceThe One Thing Every Homeowner Needs To Know About a RecessionCONTACTMessy in the Middle: messyinthemiddlepodcast.comEd Billings: edbillings.comJefi Moultrie: jefisrealestate.com
Are we passing on mothering to the next generation as God intends it? Are we passing on to our children family togetherness as God intends it? Do you children know how to set a table?
The greatest arrival into this world was the entrance of the Messiah, the King of kings and Lord of lords and the adoration of eternity. But He came as a baby. All the great things that happen in the world continue to happen through babies. Without babies coming into the world through the wombs of mothers, nothing would happen in this world! It would come to a halt.

Erin Harrison joins me today as we speak together about elevating motherhood to a higher level. It has been degraded to a low state, but God wants us to come up higher. To come up to His marvelous ways.
Are we drifting with our current liberal society or are we holding fast to God's truth? Are we effectively getting it to the next generation? Have all our children come to know Jesus personally, even our little ones?

TSA's award-winning work has made headlines internationally. Julian's love of sound stems from his early experience as a musician. He was a drummer for indie bands The Transmitters, Fish Turned Human and Missing Presumed Dead and recorded vinyl and two 1981 John Peel Sessions. Before The Sound Agency, Julian spent 20 years working in advertising and magazine publishing. He founded, grew, and sold the contract (custom) publishing agency TPD. Julian lives in beautiful Orkney with his fiancée, multiple world champion martial artist, Jane Majendie, and their daughter. Julian's vision: "We teach our children how to read and write, but not how to speak and listen. Conscious listening is rare, and never has it been more needed in the world; at the same time, millions miss out on the potential of the amazing instrument we all play – the human voice – and struggle to speak powerfully. My vision is to transform the world by inspiring people to listen consciously and speak powerfully." [And I say, "Hear, hear, Brother!"]

In this talk, Rev Lee discusses that “If everything is energy and we are all energy, the natural conclusion is that our frequency determines our physical shape and our life experience. When we master the ability to tune our frequency to a level where we consciously create, we become masters of our life.”

It's a short one today as Blin Guy Steven Scot and that other Blind Guy Shaun Preece get together in hot sweaty studios to talk tech. Steven is once again on his travels and is visiting friends in London so shares what he is up to there, but the journey down to London was much more the focus of the conversation. Steven talks about his new bluetooth transmitter that he is using with his Victor Reader Stream and the cheap AirPods-style ear buds he bought to go along with it. Kip Loui has made music in his hometown of St. Louis for years. He's a co-founder of the annual music festival Twangfest, an event that's brought music performers from all over the country to St. Louis for 24 years now. Kip has played in some great bands. Belle Starr, The Rockhouse Ramblers, The Transmitters, The High Dives, In recent years, Kip has teamed up to play and record with Diesel Island, a band whose often rotating lineup has featured Brian Henneman, Mark Ortmann and John Horton, all formerly with The Bottle Rockets. He's also released solo albums, often with his wife, JJ on vocals, guitar and harmonica. I've known about Kip for years, but it was only recently that I realized he lives just a few minutes away. So on one fine evening, here in the outskirts of St. Louis, we had a great talk. The music of Kip Loui can be listened to and purchased here at Bandcamp.Photo by Blackburn PhotographyBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! This week's EYE ON NPI can make a big difference in how fast you get temperature and differential pressure data into your next design - it's TDK's AVD Series Low-Profile Pressure Transmitters (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/e/epcos/avd-series-low-profile-pressure-transmitters). They're all-in-one, ready-to-use temperature and pressure modules with ports, analog management circuit and a simple I2C interface that can quickly integrated into any microcontroller or microcomputer product. These are differential pressure sensor modules: that means they will be able to measure the positive or negative difference between two ports. Very handy when you just need to know how an internal cavity pressure measures up against outside air pressure. A common use case for these sorts of sensors is HVAC systems with filters to keep dust and debris out of the system where it could clog the motors or make air dirty. The filters eventually fill with dirt (https://www.flickr.com/photos/ivydawned/4020166274/) and the HVAC has to spend more and more energy to push the air through the clogged filter. While maintenance staff could check the filters weekly, for a large building that could get very time consuming. Instead, a sensor like this one could measure the differential pressure once a day and notify staff when the change increases past some threshold. We like the small, fully-integrated design of this sensor. There's a nice plastic enclosure, two barbed ports, and dual JST SH 5-pin (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/jst-sales-america-inc/SHR-05V-S/759884) connectors that can be used for I2C connectivity. These aren't quite STEMMA QT connectors, but we were able to fashion a simple adapter for a demo. The I2C interface is very simple: there's no register map, just read 4 bytes over I2C and perform some simple calculations to determine temperature and pressure. We were able to throw together some Arduino code to read data and display it on an OLED in under an hour. The sensor comes in three varieties: 1.6kPa, 10kPa and 700kPa ranges (https://www.digikey.com/en/product-highlight/e/epcos/avd-series-low-profile-pressure-transmitters). The code and wiring is the same for all three, you can just change the range multiplier depending on which one you've got. Finally, for fast mechanical integration, there's a well-detailed dimensional drawing and a STEP 3D file with all the elements rendered in color. While this module is more expensive than a raw analog differential piezo pressure sensor - having the device packaged, linearized and digitized makes it very easy to integrate and install. And you can tell they did a really great job making this a quality sensor module! Best of all, all three versions of the TDK AVD Series Low-Profile Pressure Transmitters are in stock right now at Digi-Key for immediate shipment (https://www.digikey.com/short/90n7wrj5). Take the pressure off of yourself, and order today - you'll be able to add a professional quality, ready-to-install differential pressure sensor by tomorrow afternoon.

Hailing from the Lone Star State, Steadfast HTX are our featured guests this week. Made up of four long-time friends, the band self-released their debut album Transmitters in 2020, just before the pandemic. While they had some big plans to promote and tour for the album, those were obviously put on the shelf for the time being. But the band is ready to make up for lost time, and get on the road once shows begin happening again. Along with being self-released, the band recorded the album themselves. Charlie Price (drums) production on the album provides a gritty yet clean quality to the songs, reminiscent of early Social Distortion & Rancid, The Drowns and The Clash. Principal songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Jason Bancroft's gravely vocals blend well alongside Travis Smith's buzzy guitars and Andrew Wupper's steady bass. We spend some time talking about what it is to be a band from Texas; everything from having to deal with the length of drives to get outside of the state, to the phenomenon of having Wal-Mart sized gas stations (wtf??). We talk about some of the bands from Texas that are doing awesome things, and what their plans are for the coming months post-pandemic.
