This week we're talking to Larry Jordan about his book, "THE WAY" and wondering how the world might change if we allowed our beliefs to rest in our open palms instead of our closed fists ... if we asked more questions of those who see things differently instead of making more declarations about how we're right and they're wrong. This one will stretch you - enjoy! This episode features a wonderful conversation between LDF board member Terri Petersen and author Larry Jordan, who wrote the book, The Way: Meaningful Spirituality for a Modern World detailing his spiritual journey from active but low-belief Christianity to more mystical understandings of Ultimate Reality informed mostly by eastern religious traditions. In many ways, the book is an attempt to unite eastern and western spirituality. They have great exchanges on many topics, ranging from the two worldviews, how quantum physics is describing reality in much the same way mystics do, the role of myths/stories and what difference it makes if God is a person or not, or if Biblical miracle stories really happened, and more! Enjoy!
Michael has a conversation with Larry Jordan, author of The Way: Meaningful Spirituality for a Modern World. Larry deconstructed conservative Christianity, left 25 years of investment banking, and then dedicated his life to serve the world. Working for the Red Cross, helping Veterans, teaching children in Africa and now serving in Rotary International, a non-religious, non-political service organization. And all in the context of a spiritual journey that landed him following Jesus outside church with a Zen practice. Listen to the conclusions he came to incorporating an Eastern view of spirituality into life and faith. Larry Jordan shares his journey of deconstructing and reconstructing his beliefs, leading to a realization of the oneness and interconnectedness of all things. He discusses his experiences with different religions and spiritual practices, including Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism. Larry emphasizes the importance of questioning beliefs and embracing the idea of oneness, rather than othering people based on their beliefs. In this episode, Matt speaks with author Larry Jordan about his recently published book called The Way, Meaningful Spirituality for a Modern World. The book integrates religion and science and reconciles Eastern and Western worldviews, confirming with the mystics and the scientists that everyone is related, and everything is connected. The Way recognizes the perennial philosophy that underlies many spiritual traditions. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Veteran Film Editor Lawrence Jordan of Master the Workflow. Larry Jordan (known professionally as Lawrence Jordan) has amassed more than 45 professional credits, working on successful films such as Fallen, Assassins, Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo and television series including CSI: Miami and NYPD Blue. Although he came a family with roots in the entertainment industry, he watched his friends struggle to break through into an industry notorious for being nearly completely walled-off to newcomers. From that came the desire to help those who aspired to a career in film editing, but faced the classic conundrum of not being able to gain practical experience because they were too inexperienced to get a job. Larry developed Master the Workflow with his friend, Richard Sanchez. A successful assistant film editor today, Richards was himself once on the outside looking in. Both men understood that film schools were typically and woefully inadequate when it came to educating students as to what to expect once they enter the working world. While great for learning technical skills and theoretical knowledge, they knew theory went out the window once one is answering loud and demanding phone calls from a producer who is desperately trying to make an air or theatrical release date. www.mastertheworkflow.com
Mr. Larry Jordan is the one person that has always been there for me, to answer every production question. His 35 years plus of experience are readily found whenever you google a question about directing, editing, shooting, lighting, audio, and his courses cover the gamut of production, post and theory. Please check them out if you're serious about upping your game. His podcast "2 Reel Guys" is highly recommended, and his classes on Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro CC are phenomenal. Click Larry Jordan for more info on that. We discuss editing comedy vs. horror, film school vs. the real world, and the need for self-discipline, among other things. Larry's definition of "respecting the process" is a bit unique, and I promise you'll gain much from this talk. Big thanks Larry for joining me. I've also listed my Top Ten Downloaded Episodes of 2014. You can find them in the Archives on this site, or easily here, on the Sideshow Network. Big thanks to all my guests. Look forward to more great chats in 2015. Cheers, Jordan
