Graham Hancock is a complicated man. On one hand, he is exposing a lot of people to some of the most cutting edge archeological investigations and open questions in history, and doing it in a way that is engaging, entertaining, and gets non-experts excited about the field. On the other hand, his methodology is fundamentally unsound, to the point that even if he is right in his thesis of an ancient lost civilization with unexpectedly high technologies, his methods are insufficient to prove himself. So today we are not going to necessarily debunk any of his claims, I don't think that is very worthwhile, but instead we are going to talk about the Philosophy of Archeology and the historical method. We will use some of his examples, like the Piri Reis map and Gobekli Tepe, to help flesh out what he should be doing that he often is neglecting to do. Also, I did largely forget about the whole academic consensus aspect of this as I was writing, because honestly I am pretty disconnected from academia and have the perspective that someone can engage with a field pretty solidly with a good internet connection, but here is the link to Dr. David Falk, a fellow who himself passes in and out of respectability based on the circles you travel in, talking about the challenge of breaking into a fairly ossified field. And honestly, I do get the sense that archeology is rather more rigid in its scientific consensus than many other fields of study, so its not like Mr. Hancock doesn't have a point here. https://youtu.be/yE6Blwt-QIE?si=4tA952zPewVsghti If you like the show, consider sharing with your friends, leaving a like, subscribing, or even supporting financially: Buy the Oldest Stories books: https://a.co/d/7Wn4jhS Donate here: https://oldeststories.net/ or on patreon: https://patreon.com/JamesBleckley or on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCG2tPxnHNNvMd0VrInekaA/join Youtube and Patreon members get access to bonus content about Egyptian culture and myths.

Hour 1: The Heat are heading to the NBA Finals after beating the Celtics last night. Boomer gives credit to Pat Riley, President of the Heat. He also said we had him here with the Knicks and let him go. A lot of the credit also goes to Jimmy Butler. Buzz or No Buzz, NBA Finals? Boomer said he is into it and will be watching. The Heat are big underdogs to the Nuggets. Aaron Judge had a huge game in Seattle last night. He hit 2 HRs and just missed a third and he also robbed a HR in the field. Aaron Judge may be the greatest NY baseball player in our lifetime. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with audio from the Heat/Celtics game last night. The Celtics were terrible from three. Jason Tatum injured his ankle on the first play of the game and said he was a ‘shell of myself'. Jerry has play-by-play from Aaron Judge hitting 2 HRs and robbing a HR. Judge called it ‘just another catch'. Buck Showalter said the Mets have ‘big things ahead', whatever that means. Boomer said the Mets bullpen keeps him up at night. The Vegas Knights head to the Stanley Cup Finals after beating the Dallas Stars 6-0. In the final segment of the hour, Gio finally watched Air on Amazon Prime, the story of Nike signing Michael Jordan. Boomer is mentioned as he and Jordan had the same agent at the time, David Falk. Hour 2: We talked about the Celtics and Jaylen Brown and whether he would be a good fit for the Knicks. We also talked about Saquon Barkley and his contract situation with the Giants. Boomer said he would hate to see him in another uniform. He also said we are going to see how good Daniel Jones really is if he's playing without Barkley in the backfield. A caller with CF calls to say he just had a baby thanks to Boomer & Gunnar. Jerry returns for an update but first Boomer said he won't eat oatmeal anymore because Gio said he slurps it. Jerry starts with play-by-play from the Heat win over the Celtics last night. Aaron Judge hit 2 HRs and robbed a HR in Seattle last night. Brandon Nimmo talked about the positivity with the youth movement for the Mets. An ump in the Angels/Marlins game had a hot mic when he said somebody ‘got their head up their ass'. The Golden Knights advance to the Stanley Cup Finals with a 6-0 win over the Stars. In the final segment of the hour, Pete Alonso had to swing at the first pitch against the Reds a few weeks ago because he had to poop. He hit a HR, which allowed him to run into the locker room to go to the bathroom. Hour 3: Giancarlo Stanton starts his rehab tonight in Somerset, NJ to play for the Patriots. The NBA is launching an investigation on an official who supposedly set up a burner account to defend himself on Twitter. LeBron James seemed surprised. Brandon Tierney tried to get a ‘Let's Go Mets' fans chant going but it was a disaster. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Jake Bauers hitting a HR in Seattle. Gio played guitar on Friday with the band and Boomer has a lot of questions. Jerry starts with the Yankees beating the Mariners and then he gets into audio from a podcast with Pete Alonso. He told the story of hitting a HR on the first pitch because he had to poop. The Heat beat the Celtics in game 7 and it wasn't close. Jason Tatum got hurt on the first play of the game. In the final segment of the hour, Gio's friend in the parking garage is excited to be getting a vending machine. But, it's an umbrella vending machine. Gio thinks it's a dumb idea. Hour 4: The Celtics came back from 3-0 deficit to even the series 3-3, but lost last night and it wasn't close. Jason Tatum injured his ankle on the very first play of the game. Gio said Tatum should have figured out a way to play through it in that situation. The Mets start a series tonight against the Phillies at Citi Field. We also talked about losing Edwin Diaz. Where were you when you heard the news? A caller said Mets starting pitching has been so bad we wouldn't even need Diaz this year. Jerry returns for his final update of the morning and starts with audio from Aaron Rodgers at the Taylor Swift concert. With confetti falling, he yelled ‘The Jets won the Super Bowl'. The Heat beat the Celtics to move on to the NBA Finals to play the Nuggets. Jason Tatum of the Celtics injured his ankle on the very first play. Aaron Judge hit 2 HRs and robbed a HR as the Yankees beat the Mariners in Seattle. Judge called it, ‘just another catch'. The Vegas Golden Knights advance to the Stanley Cup Finals to play the Florida Panthers. In the final segment of the show, Jimmy Garoppolo is hurt again. He had surgery and won't be ready for the season. Because of this, speculation has begun that Tom Brady will QB the Vegas Raiders.

Hosts Andy and Tom talk about plans to build a new $400 million home for the Western & Southern Open – in Charlotte – as well as Xavier University's first-in-the-nation medical school, the Port taking a swing in Camp Washington, a preservation battle over a historic Cincinnati school and Mazunte's move to a new market.Interview starts at (18:49). David Falk would rate his incredibly popular downtown Italian trattoria Sotto a 5.5 out of 10. Maybe a 6 if he was feeling generous. It's not that he dislikes the restaurant – quite the opposite – he just believes it has more potential. He talks about striving for greatness, having a point of view in the culinary world and how being an old dad has made him better at business.Above the Fold is a podcast by the Cincinnati Business Courier.

David Falk is Green Access Manager on the Public Rights of Way Team for Suffolk County Council. He works hard to encourage people to enjoy walking in the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Along with fellow walker former local radio presenter Leslie Dolphin he takes Clare on a walk along part of the Icknield Way starting at Stow Country Park just north of Bury St Edmunds. . It is claimed to be the oldest road in Britain (5,000 years old!). This section goes through a large pine forest and open heathlands and is lovely walking terrain. Producer Maggie Ayre
Dr. David Falk is a professional egyptologist who runs a youtube channel called "Ancient Egypt and the Bible". He joins us today to talk about the Exodus and if it really happened, when he thinks it happened, and why it all matters. Surprisingly, the issue of the exodus is incredibly contentious and triggering in the realm of scholarship. You have some scholars say it happened earlier around 1400 BC, other say around 1200 BC - which is the later date view, and some who even say it didn't happen at all. Part of the reason this is so volatile of a subject is that depending on what you choose to believe, there is a lot of fallout on how you receive the entire Old Testament pretty much. This was a super fascinating discussion and we think you will agree! Enjoy! David B. Falk is an American sports agent who primarily works with basketball players in the National Basketball Association. Falk began his career representing professional tennis players for Donald Dell's ProServ and is best known for representing sports icon Michael Jordan for the entirety of Jordan's career. Besides Jordan, Falk has represented more than 100 other NBA players, and is generally considered to be the most influential player agent the NBA has seen. During the peak years of Falk's career in the 1990s, he was often considered the second-most powerful person in the NBA behind Commissioner David Stern, and in 2000 he had at least one client on all but two NBA teams. He was listed among the "100 Most Powerful People in Sports" for 12 straight years from 1990 to 2001 by The Sporting News, and was also named one of the Top 50 Marketers in the United States by Advertising Age in 1995. He is recognized as the NBA Super Agent of his time and the man behind Michael Jordan's commercial success. A trained lawyers, he began his career representing professional athletes with ProServ in 1974, rising to Vice Chairman of the company. In 1992, he formed Falk Associates Management Enterprises (FAME) to provide specialized and personal representation service to the company's elite clientele of NBA superstars. During his career, Falk has represented more NBA first-round draft selections, lottery picks, Rookies-of-the-Year, and All-Stars than anyone else in the athlete management business. In 1985, he negotiated Michael Jordan's ground-breaking deal with Nike--the most successful endorsement relationship in history--and in the process coined the nickname “Air Jordan.” Falk negotiated the highest contracts in NBA league history for Patrick Ewing in 1985 and Danny Ferry in 1990. He also negotiated professional sports' first $100 million contract in 1996 for Alonzo Mourning as part of an unprecedented free agency period in which FAME changed the entire salary structure of the NBA, negotiating over $400 million in contracts for its free agent clients in a six-day period. In 1998, Falk sold FAME to SFX Entertainment for US$ 200 million, serving on SFX's Board of Directors and in the Office of the Chairman. As Chairman of SFX Sports Group, Falk oversaw the acquisition of a dozen sports agencies that enabled SFX to represent approximately 20 percent of MLB and NBA players. Falk stepped down as Chairman in 2001 to pursue other interests. In January 2007, Falk re-launched FAME and currently serves as its Founder and CEO. Falk is also involved in a dozen ventures now, both as an investor and advisor.
