Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to singer and musician Inara George about growing up the daughter of beloved musician Lowell George. Perhaps best known for his time in the band Little Feet, Lowell George passed away in 1979 at the age of 34, just shy of Inara's fifth birthday. We spoke to Inara about the need and the restlessness of overseeing a legacy run by her mother and the toll it takes keeping it alive in 2026.  Of course, we also spoke to her about her own career as a singer as well. So just how difficult is it for someone with both a new album out in March entitled, Songs of Douglass and Littell as well as a Record Store Day tribute album to her father in April, Rock and Roll Doctor: Lowell George Tribute, well, it's complicated.   We spoke to Inara about her family roots in Los Angeles, where her grandfather made quite a name for himself as a studio supplier for expensive and exclusive garments for the movie studios brought him in contact with names like Lucille Ball, Rita Hayworth and Greta Garbo. And with an upbringing like that, just how did his son got from the marching band at Hollywood High School whose best known Little Feat song "Willin'" has more 54 million streams on Spotify? We discuss it all. In a stunning display of postseason firepower, the Cincinnati Reds' long-awaited return to October ended abruptly with a 10-5 thrashing by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series on September 30 at Dodger Stadium. For the Reds, who clawed their way into the playoffs for the first time since 2020, the night served as a harsh reminder of the chasm between scrappy upstarts and a loaded powerhouse. A raucous crowd of 50,555 watched as L.A. unleashed five home runs, turning ace Hunter Greene's start into a nightmare. Greene, the Reds' flame-throwing righty and a lifelong Dodgers fan, entered with sky-high expectations. But the Dodgers pounced immediately. Facing a 100.4 mph fastball, Shohei Ohtani crushed a 117.7 mph line drive for a solo homer to right, igniting the fuse. Mookie Betts singled, and the floodgates opened: Teoscar Hernández blasted a three-run shot, followed by homers from Will Smith and Max Muncy. Greene's line was brutal—five runs, three homers, six hits over four innings on 65 pitches. "He didn't locate, and when he didn't, he paid a price," lamented manager Terry Francona. The Dodgers' onslaught continued behind Blake Snell's masterful seven innings, fanning nine while allowing just two runs. Ohtani added a 454-foot two-run bomb off reliever Connor Phillips in the sixth, his second of the night, as L.A. built a 10-2 cushion by the seventh. The Dodgers became only the fifth team with two multi-homer players in a playoff game, per MLB stats. Cincinnati flickered late, capitalizing on a Dodgers bullpen wobble in the eighth. I begin today's show by warning how Republicans are not showing an appetite for spending cuts both in budget reconciliation and the emergency disaster spending bill. The biggest cost to our budget and life, of course, is the broken healthcare system. I'm joined by family physician and medical school professor Dr. John Littell, one of the heroes of COVID, for a deep dive into the lack of trust between doctors and patients. Dr. Littell warns that alongside a lot of bad medical practice are still lifesaving protocols, and patients need to find doctors they can trust to sort out the good from the bad. For example, he believes that things like vaccines, Pap smears, and statins are being driven by medical industry politics, but on the other hand, colonoscopies are lifesaving. He recommends that the new HHS leadership change the incentive formulas in Medicare that incentivize hospital treatment over outpatient and discourage traditional family medicine practice.
