US equity markets logged modest declines on Friday (21 June) as semiconductor stocks retreated for a second straight session - Dow inched +16-points or +0.04% higher, with Intel Corp (up +1.53%) and Nike Inc (+1.68%) rising over >1.5%. Boeing Co edged +0.15% higher amid reports it was nearing a deal to acquire supplier Spirit AeroSystems (+6%). Apple Inc dropped -1.04%, falling in the final minutes of the session - possibly a byproduct of Friday night AEST's triple witching (the simultaneous expiration of stock options, stock index futures, and stock index options contracts) or a sizeable rebalancing of the US$70B Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (down -1.72%) and JPMorgan Chase & Co (-1.19%) were both under pressure after the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp (FDIC) and the Federal Reserve Board on Friday (21 June) said they have found “shortcomings” in the so-called living wills of four of the eight largest U.S. banks. Since the 2008 financial crisis and the Dodd-Frank legislation to shore up the U.S. banking system, big banks have been required to file living wills with regulators to lay out plans for an orderly bankruptcy. Meanwhile, New York Fed's Liberty Street Economics blog cautioned last Thursday (20 June) that the big US banks face growing spillover risks from non-banks that could trigger "vectors of shock transmission and amplification, forcing authorities to intervene and do so en masse," the post said, adding that the disruptions "could be rather severe."

While these tasks can be completed on your own, sometimes it's easier to have professional help to answer questions & provide accountability.Resources:FREE 8 No-Baby Steps for Childfree People Course8 No-Baby Steps PodcastWhat is the Money Management System?Money Management System Free TemplateGet your paperwork right, now! - Wills, Beneficiaries, Living Wills, POAs and moreDeath Binder by Dying Kindness7 Questions to Ask Aging ParentsCaring for Elderly FamilyThe Sabbatical - A tool to recenter & find yourself. How Do Taxes Work for Childfree People? What is the difference between tax planning & tax filing?Like the show? This week is a very important topic - living wills, advanced directives, and healthcare proxies.  It is critical to have a conversation about these topics, and I encourage you to choose a trusted advocate or caregiver who can make medical decisions on your behalf if you are unable to. Please don't forget to document important information that may be crucial in times of emergency or if you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself: Keep track of passwords, bank accounts, and contact information for renovation workers.  Set up a legacy contact with Apple, enabling access to a deceased person's computer. Check for updates to these documents regularly as you change passwords or as things in your life change These steps can ease the burden on loved ones during difficult times. We also discuss different names for advanced directives, which may vary from state to state. In some areas, they may be referred to as healthcare agents or patient advocates. The key is to ensure you have a documented process for your medical decisions such as preferences regarding organ donation, pain management, resuscitation, ventilation, feeding tubes, and palliative care. By documenting these preferences, individuals can ensure that their wishes are respected and followed. When in doubt, consult with a lawyer regarding these documents and make sure you carry a copy with you at all times/you have a copy in your medical record.

Susie starts telling a story about how she and Adam got into a fight over their estate planning and living wills, but she is suddenly interrupted in a stranger-than-fiction actual emergency while we're recording. When we reconvene, we hear what happened, and discuss the strange coincidence of the timing. It's wild. She talks about her new interest in chess, and tries to understand why chess might attract a certain kind of person, like Bobby Fischer, whose genius offers incredible skill at the game, but ends up causing their demise. And we discuss a scandal in the chess world involving b-holes, but Susie thinks it's more related to the type of person who is obsessed with chess. And we learn about the woman with the highest IQ, the reason why she isn't more famous, and why she was treated so predicably bad by interviewers over the years. We hear about a possible serial killer stalking the streets of Chicago and how one TikToker thinks he is going to solve the mystery with his "investigation." Hear why YouTubers keep doing cringey and dangerous things, and it's making us nuts. Susie shares why a lot of Asian-American women are named Connie, and how representation is so important. When it comes to making important--and often difficult--choices about care needs at the end of life, sometimes we aren't in a position to speak our wishes out loud or make decisions in real-time.  We do, however, live in a time and a place where it is possible to write down wishes in advance, or to designate other people to make medical decisions for us in times when we are not able to communicate or are not conscious.  Collectively, those kinds of documents are called "advanced directives," and they allow people to instruct doctors about what kinds of treatments they do or do not want administered in the event they are not able to make those decisions for themselves.  And while it can be helpful to have these papers completed and on file, even more important is the conversation with our loved ones about what we want done or not done in difficult future situations.  How do we have these conversations?  That's where this week's episode of Crazy Faith Talk will take us--so join pastors Sarah, Erica, and Steve in our current series looking at death and dying with honesty and hope.

Money Therapy: A better understanding of you and your money guided by Harpeth Wealth Partners

Have you ever heard of a Will or Trust? I am guessing you have! But do you have a will, a living will, or medical power of attorney? If you do, is it up to date? Do your loved ones know where to find your documents?.... Oh, it's in a safe... good! Do you kids remember where to find that combo for your safe? Here is the thing, while most of us know these things are important, we don't do a good job of dealing with this... why? Studies show that even those we like to think gloomy, most of us go through our days thinking we have time to deal with this stuff later. Plus, none of us like to think about, much less talk about, the end of our life. Legacy is important to almost everyone I have the pleasure of working with. Making sure our family continues on a path we worked hard to set in motion is something we often discuss. Things like POAs, Living Wills, Wills, Trusts, and other legal documents can help your family better maneuver the transition that is inevitably forced upon us. It is also important to know the burden that can be lifted from loved ones making decisions without your final guidance hoping they are making decisions you would want or be proud of. We took an hour with a great friend and attorney who is incredibly intelligent when it comes to this stuff... my favorite part is that he is an attorney with personality and speaks in a language we can all understand... simple! Let's dive in and hope you enjoy, learn something, and improve your financial fortress because of your time invested here! Hosted by Brandan Chasteen. In this hour, Elder Law and special needs attorney Jim Koewler talks with Suzanne Newman about how to appoint people to represent you in situations where you're unable to act for yourself – a who's who of people who should be involved in your estate plan. This segment focuses on living wills. One person does the job – pick one person. A power of attorney document should be written as though it's needed when you need long-term care, because it's mostly used for that. Name your agent with long-term care in mind. Pick them for that reason – don't name your son as general power of attorney because he handles money better and name your daughter as your health care agent; if the daughter reaches the end of her rope, the son might not agree to pay for help, and he would control the checkbook. Living Wills may be different in every state; this covers when you've suffered a brain death and you can tell the family whether to keep the respirator running. Keep your chosen people the same order for both the powers of attorney and the living will. That way you don't have the person listed first on the health care power of attorney having to fight with the person listed first on the living will. Keep them all the same to avoid conflict at a time when conflict slows down your medical care. Living Wills Person to receive phone call (that Principal seems to have suffered traumatic brain damage): Probably spouse First alternate person to receive phone call: person most likely to take in Principal (person signing the Living Will) if Principal needs long-term care Second successor agent: Person second-most likely to take inPrincipal if Principal needs long-term care Others: The person listed on Living Will to receive the phone call doesn't have any "power," but many families don't know that. So, to avoid "power struggles" among family members, it is prudent to list the same people in the Living Will as are named in the Powers of Attorney  You can listen to the podcast or watch it on YouTube.
