The town of Nutbush, Tennessee, is preparing to build a statue in honor of Tina Turner. The statue will be located in the town square and is expected to be completed in early 2024. Turner was born in Nutbush in 1939 and grew up there until she was 16 years old. She is a world-renowned singer, songwriter, and actress who has sold over 200 million records worldwide. Ralph Yarl, the 17-year-old boy who was shot by a 84 year old man outside of his home in January, is showing signs of progress. A 28-year-old woman named Dr. Eli Joseph has become the youngest black professor to simultaneously teach at Columbia University, New York university, and the University of California, Los Angeles. Howard University will be hosting a girls' lacrosse camp this summer thanks to a donation from Nike. The camp will be free for all girls who attend and will be led by current and former Howard lacrosse players. The camp is part of Nike's breaking barriers initiative, which is designed to empower girls and women through sports. In addition to these topics, Amanda Seales also discussed a variety of other topics on her podcast, including the importance of self-care, the need for more diversity in Hollywood, and the challenges of being a Black woman in America. The Amanda Seales Show is a daily podcast that is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. We're in the studio talking about Taylor- who is Matty Healy, why is she dating him, and why should we care? We also talk gentle parenting, the philosophy driving modern approaches to breeding- are we utilising a good way to raise kind and emotionally regulated people, or are we breeding a fresh generation of lily-livered, self-examining snowflakes? We also pay homage to the magnificent Tina Turner and her mark on modern Australian culture- including salivating over NRL players and the Nutbush dance, which apparently nobody else in the world knows or does at every wedding after half a bottle of cheap savvy b. Long live the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, Tina Turner! With heavy hearts, we share the news of Tina Turner's passing at the age of 83, as announced by her management team today.Tina Turner, a symbol of resilience, left an indelible mark on the sound of rock and roll for generations. From her iconic collaborations with Ike Turner in the '60s and '70s ("A Fool in Love" and "Proud Mary") to her solo projects like "River Deep Mountain High" in the '60s and the timeless "What's Love Got to Do with It?" in the '80s, her influence was undeniable. But Tina's talents extended beyond music. She graced the silver screen, portraying the unforgettable Acid Queen in The Who's "Tommy" (1975) and the post-apocalyptic warlord Aunty Entity in "Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome" (1985). She also appeared as the Mayor in Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Last Action Hero" (1993) and made a notable cameo in the ill-fated film adaptation of "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by The Bee Gees (1978).On television, Tina brightened various TV variety shows, including The Cher Show and Hollywood Nights with Olivia Newton-John. As the first black woman to grace the cover of Rolling Stone, Tina Turner shattered boundaries and solidified her place as one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.Today, we come together to celebrate the extraordinary life of Tina Turner. In honor of her legacy, we invite you to enjoy this encore presentation of "The Tea on Tina Turner," which originally aired in April of 2021.------Everyone expected 1984 to be a strange dystopian future, but it turned out to be an amazing year for pop culture with Tina Turner reigning supreme as the Queen of Rock and Roll.Although the press described Tina Turner's chart topping album Private Dancer as a comeback, Tina considered it her debut album, free from the control and abuse she faced from her ex-husband Ike Turner. In the new documentary film, Tina, the Queen of Rock and Roll has the final word on her extraordinary life from growing poor and Black in Nutbush, TN, to her relationship with Ike Turner and how she broke free to become one of the world's most celebrated artists. The new documentary is gonna get you hooked on Tina all over again. But despite it being an in depth look at the pop icon's life, many amazing things were briefly touched on or left on the cutting room floor.Today is Tina Turner day! We're looking at the life and legacy of the Queen of Rock and Roll, from the incredible year she had back in 1984, to her rock and roll roots with Ike Turner. Who made her iconic wigs? How did Cher save Tina's career? And what celebrities made her want to say “you better be good to me.”

Back in the 70's, were you a ramblin' man, never going to the same place twice? When you passed through the Nutbush city limits, did you and your companion think we may never pass this way again? Did you just keep on truckin' along the highway, or sometimes grabbed a ride on the midnight train to Georgia? In some places you probably were not welcome, and if you tried to engage a local they would just say “leave me alone”. In other places, they would play mind games, and even though you told them I've got a name, they would instead call you other things, like the joker or half breed. In frustration sometimes you probably just greeted people with a generic “hello, it's me”. At the end of your journey, hopefully you felt like you were at the top of the world, and at that point, took a photograph of the scene. This week I promise to uncork that time in a bottle and will show and tell all I know about the Billboard Top 40 from the week of December 1st, 1973. Tune in to the conversation with author of 3 series and over 15 books: Alex Bledsoe, as he shares his experiences with fantasy in real life, rejection, and two seemingly opposite genres that will make you pee your pants. Whether you're writing fantasy, thriller, or modern day fiction, Alex explains how it's all rooted around real life–and why that humanity is more important than any fantasy world you can build. Hear why humor is harder to portray than other human emotions (such as love or terror), the benefits of niche publishing houses, and the reality behind the grueling query process. Alex will share truths from his journey to becoming a published novel from age 18 to 44 and more on this episode of Am I Write? ResourcesFacebookInstagramTwitterAlexbledsoe.comBooks by Alex (Including the upcoming new release, Dandelion)About Alex BledsoeAlex grew up in Tennessee an hour north of Graceland (home of Elvis) and twenty minutes from Nutbush (birthplace of Tina Turner). He has been a reporter, photographer, editor, and door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman. He now lives in a Wisconsin town famous for trolls, writes before six in the morning, and tries to teach his three kids to act like they've been to town before.
