Con música de Bananarama (interpretando a Shocking Blue), y The Presidents of the United States of America. Próximo programa: Daredevil - Born Again (TV) / Daredevil - Mayor Fisk (Comics).

Magic Knight Rayeart – Taikasoturit on CLAMPin ysärishoujoseikkailu, jossa kolme japanilaista koulutyttöä kutsutaan pelastamaan taikamaailma ohjastamalla taikajättirobotteja. Ajankohtaisina aiheina puhumme BL-harrastamisen historiasta Italiassa sekä sen, miten Akihabara on hiljalleen menettämässä asemaansa Tokion nörttikulttuurin mekkana. Lukujonossa jatkamme ysärishoujoteemaa tekemällä katsauksen kyynisenromanttisista lyhäreistään muistetun Mitsukazu Miharan tuotantoon, jonka parhaiten muistettu helmi on kuvankauniista androidipalvelijoista kertova scifitarinakokoelma Doll. --- Kommentoi | Threads | Mastodon | Bluesky | X | Instagram --- (00:57) – KUULUMISET: CINEMA THERAPY - Cinema Therapy (YouTube) (06:12) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: ESITTELY - Magic Knight Rayearth - Taikasoturit - Saapuminen Cephiroon (kuva) (09:34) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: CLAMP - CLAMP - Doujinsheja tehdään circleinä - Akira Himekawa - Yoshiki Tanaka, Legend of the Galactic Heroes -kirjasarjan kirjoittaja - Onmyodo-magia - Kiinalaisesta mytologiasta ammentavaa fantasiaa 80-90-luvuilla: - Dragon Ball - Ranma 1/2 - Yu Yu Hakusho - Jakso 38, jakso 47 ja jakso 54, joissa puhuimme Tokyo Babylonin epäonnisesta animesovituksesta - Maaretin postaussarja xxxHolicin ja Tsubasa: Reservoir Chroniclen lukemisesta (osa 1, osa 2, osa 3 ja osa 4) (26:20) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: SARJA YLEISESTI - Jakso 78, jossa puhuimme Sugar Sugar Runesta - Jakso 51, jossa puhuimme isekai-genrestä - 90-luvun shoujosarjoja, joissa japanilaiset tytöt päätyvät toiseen maailmaan: - Fushigi Yuugi - The Twelve Kingdoms - Red River - The Vision of Escaflowne - So I'm a Spider, So What? - Ylipappi Zagato on siepannut prinsessa Emerauden (kuva) - Real robot vs. super robot - Riimujumalat ottavat fyysisen muodon mechoina (kuva) - Mainittuja sarjoja, joissa ihmisten negatiiviset tunteet manifestoituvat yliluonnollisina hirviöinä: - Jujutsu Kaisen - Chainsaw Man, josta puhuimme jaksossa 77 - Twin Star Exorcists - Sarja on täynnä itsetietoista fantasiatropeiden kommentointia (kuva) (42:48) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: HAHMOKERRONTA - Hikaru on päähenkilöisä päähenkilö, joka uskoo ystävyyden voimaan (kuva) - Fuu joutuu kohtaamaan taikalähteen koetuksessa itsensä (kuva) - Umi kesyttää taikapetojen kanssa taistelevan Ascot-pojan empatiallaan (kuva) - Romanssit ovat vähän päälleliimatun oloisia (kuva) - Aikuishahmoinen Ascot on aika söpö (kuva) - Zagaton surumielinen vakaumus (kuva) - Seksikkäät pahismimmit olivat ysärishoujon tärkeä lahja maailmalle (kuva) (54:02) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: TAIDE JA TYYLI - Pääkolmikon muodonmuutoskohtauksissa heidän elementtinsä on toteutettu tosi kauniisti (kuva) - Jakso 96, jossa puhuimme toisesta ysärisarjasta Fake - Chibikohellus näyttää aika vanhentuneelta (kuva) - Lantisin ihana taikaenergiahevonen (kuva) (59:06) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: JULKAISU - Hyökkäysten nimet on alun perin kirjoitettu kanjeilla ja niitä selittävillä furigana-teksteillä, jotka tuovatkin kanjeille uuden ääntämisasun ja koko sanalle kaksoismerkityksen, mutta käännöksissä tätä on mahdoton toteuttaa, joten hyökkäykset ovat usein kaksinimisiä (kuva) - Huomaa myös “kjäääää!” - Mia Lewisin akateeminen artikkeli siitä, miten CLAMP käyttää furigana-tekstejä tarinankerronnan ja maailmanrakennuksen välineenä (01:06:09) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: ANIMESOVITUS (01:08:46) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: SPOILERIOSIO - YKKÖSPUOLISKO - Emerauden todelliset tunteet (kuva) - Tukipilarin rakkaus (kuva) - Loppu (kuva) - Jakso 4, jossa puhuimme sarjasta Vinland Saga - Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Jakso 62, jossa puhuimme sarjasta Saiyuki (01:21:20) – MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH: SPOILERIOSIO - KAKKOSPUOLISKO - Kolme Cephiroon saapuvaa valloittajaa: (kuva) - Kiina-henkisen Fahren-valtion prinsessa Aska haluaa tehdä Cephirosta karkkimaan - Lähi-Itä-henkisen Chiseta-valtion prinsessat Tatra ja Tarta haluavat vallata lisää elintilaa kansalleen - Scifihenkisen teknologiavaltio Autozamin komentaja Eagle etsii ratkaisua oman maansa saasteongelmaan - Lantisin ja Eaglen traaginen (b)romanssi (kuva) - TV Tropes: Heterosexual Life-Partners - Geo, Eaglen oikea käsi ja heteroseksuaalinen elämänkumppani (kuva) - Tarinan jälkipuoliskolla on tilaa moraaliselle pohdinnalle ja suureelliselle oopperadialogille (kuva) - Onko tämä maa kaunis? And here we are, running down the major bits and pieces from Anime Expo once again, all while the industry is threatened more now than ever in recent memory of suffering from a bursting bubble. It's best to enjoy things while we still can, but that does include plenty of upcoming projects like... more Fire Force and Blue Exorcist... but there's more TRIGUN and Panty & Stocking coming so it all balances out in the end. And that's not withstanding the folks from RWBY getting a new place of employment at Viz Media, the newest arc of One Piece getting ready for its dub premiere and the long-awaited finish line of "simuldub" inching closer and closer, and even a new film project from Shoji Kawamori in the works as well, along with plenty more to dive into and discuss. There's a lot to get to as we're in the heat of convention season, so for this "landmark" 175th episode, we're... going to do the same as usual. Except it's molten hot outside, so that's what makes this a bit more special. I think. A little bit of FYI for those who are curious: most shows we do are initially recorded anywhere from 2-3 hours in one call, though sometimes it can be a little longer than 3 hours, while the editing process can take anywhere from 6 to 10 hours to scroll through everything and make the necessary cuts and edits in several editing sessions. So if anyone's wondering why these shows take a while to come out, that's why. It's a one-man editing operation on a MacBook Pro, at the end of the day. We'll be back to talk SDCC and Otakon very soon. ntro - happy 175th, the heat is still unbearable 4:04 - pre/post-AX news items 57:15 - Anime Expo 2024: signs of an unstable industry 1:04:12 - the BIG announcement(s): BLUE BOX + NETFLIX 1:09:55 - Day 1 1:47:50 - Day 2 2:28:58 - Day 3 4:04 - Demon Slayer going back to the theaters 15:12 - the new Rose of Versailles film is a MAPPA production 20:37 - Magic Knight Rayearth 30th anniversary anime project announced 24:06 - Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha 20th anniversary movies re-edit announced 26:36 - Kisemonogatari compilation film in theaters in August 29:13 - Kadokawa acquires Doga Kobo 35:04 - Science SARU producing SANDA series from BEASTARS creator 37:10 - Crunchyroll fixes review bombing by disabling EVERY comment section 42:49 - THAT scene in Rent-a-Girlfriend will soon be upon us 46:05 - coming to SDCC: Adult Swim vs. AEW 48:29 - some Toonami updates: Sailor Moon and… something else 55:16 - BOCCHI THE CASSETTE TAPE 56:39 - late from Japan Expo: DEVILMAN CRYBABY BLU-RAY IS COMING AX Day 1: 1:09:55 - TRIGUN STARGAZE 1:13:01 - NEW Panty & Stocking 1:15:12 - Witch Hat Atelier 1:22:15 - Garden of Remembrance 1:24:11 - Batman Ninja sequel film 1:26:03 - Shoji Kawamori directing a new original film 1:27:01 - Kodansha USA 1:44:05 - BEASTARS season 4 1:45:21 - Grotesque AX Day 2: 1:47:50 - Viz Media acquires RWBY 1:54:53 - J-Novel Club 2:06:53 - Yen Press 2:20:27 - DENPA/Kuma 2:24:17 - Bleach: Rebirth of Souls 2:27:42 - One Piece Egghead Arc dub 2:28:58 - Tokyopop still sucks 2:30:09 - Uzumaki dub cast 2:32:07 - Special Kid Factory 2:33:37 - Bleach: TYBW 2:37:03 - MHA: You're Next release details 2:42:50 - new Blue Exorcist and Black Butler seasons 2:43:38 - Crunchyroll 2:51:43 - AX Cinema Nights Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ Where to find us: Alex – @AuraOfAzure, https://xandersmachinations.wordpress.com Andrew – @MangaMan9000, youtube.com/DubTalk Jet – @Divinenega, https://thenerdyabyss.wordpress.com As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, and follow @SurrealReso for more updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

Sometimes I just wonder why even got some games. It's not that I don't appreciate them, that's not it at all. But licensed games where we don't really know the franchise? And game genres that aren't able to carry the game by itself? And doing it all on a disaster of a console where it seems like nothing could be done right. I know I'm sounding super negative right now but I think that is part of the charm of Magic Knight Rayearth. And you know who else thinks so? Satsunami from the Chatsunami podcast. Listen in as we take a look at this hidden gem of a game about a hidden gem of an anime and manga property that we just couldn't appreciate when were first exposed to it back in the 1990s. Learn such things as: Does everything that we miss need to come back? What are the benefits to leaving fans wanting more? Has anyone actually seen this game in real life? And so much more! You can find Satsunami on Twitter @ChatsunamiPod, Instagram @chatsunami, TikTok @chatsunami, and of course his podcast Chatsunami. Episode 112 of Key Frames, a podcast about anime. I know we talk a lot about sex on this podcast but, to be fair, anime is extremely horny. As fans of it, we have to apologize for (or at least tolerate) jiggling boobs, panty shots, and more or less everything about the "harem" subgenre. That's why it's kind of a relief to talk about adult relationships in the shows we like! You know, people having sex first and then catching feelings, people whose connections with their partners are more about comfort than romance, and of course the endless (and endlessly) homoerotic fan service of shounen and seinen battlers. Not to mention that, after the break, we have One Piece talk from Andy, Magic Knight Rayearth talk from Ben, and School Days talk from Jeff, while Duncan scoffs at us all! The post 112 - World of Sex first appeared on Key Frames.
This episode of We Watch 100 Isekai contains spoilers for Magic Knight Rayearth / Majikku Naito Reiasu, Episode 1. 00:00 - Intro 09:05 - Episode Recap 54:00 - Rankings Zaku and Thermite follow up a great classic shonen with shoujo elements with an ever bigger classic with elements of both genres! Rayearth is a legend of 90's anime and it was a pleasure for them to watch this episode. (Fun fact: Zaku finished the whole series after this episode.) Follow our heroes into the land of Cephiro as they discuss the history of the manga, scene transitions, good chibi usage, the difference between mecha and magical girls, short jokes, school-assigned personalities, giving away killer LN ideas in exchange for podcast plugs, actually focusing on the evil high priest, a cool ethos for the world, fantastic trio dynamics, the hollowness of power vs the satisfaction of progression, and a weakness for magical girls. It's time for what if Magic Knight Rayearth was Redline! We talk about the relationship of the movie to the show; look at some of the characters that only briefly appear in the movie; the unreality and unreality of Adolescence of Utena; our different reads on the movie, which honestly might just be our attempts to describe the same unified read but fractured through our own perspectives in the same way different characters speak of eternity, that which shines, miracles, or the power to revolutionize the world; the outsized presence of Shiori in the movie compared to some of the other minor (and even major) characters from the show that barely appear in the movie; what the hell is going on with Touga; the image of liberation at the end of the movie and how it relates to ideas of potentiality rather than the promise of utopia (including a call back to our least favorite series we covered last year); and more. Also, don't forget that we will be recording the Question Bucket soon. The deadline to write into our Question Bucket for this series is January 29, 2022. For this week's episode we watched Magic Knight Rayearth, episodes 7-9! A Shoujo, magical-girl anime, that's also an isekai of sorts, and supposedly turns into a mech-anime too, so it's got it all! Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji are strangers brought together by fate when they meet during a seemingly normal field trip to Tokyo Tower. The trio fight their way to save the world of Cephiro! The show ran from 1994 to 1995 and was made by Tokyo Movie Shinsha, who have produced Akira, Lupin, Detective Conan, and many more late 80s early 90s anime. In this episode, Clarissa reviews one of the signature titles from manga supergroup CLAMP: the 1994 anime series Magic Knight Rayearth. Fair warning: in addition to the TV series, we also talk about...Rayearth. You know, that OVA we all try to pretend doesn't exist. Which Clarissa and Gerald had actually never seen or really heard about until just now. Visit www.animeworldorder.com for full show notes and supplemental links.
Once upon a time, years and years ago, there was an awkward teenager pretending to be a boy, and they were very sad because they were bullied out of watching Magic Knight Rayearth. Before the teen appeared another magical girl anime on their girlfriend's bookshelf. It had a regal bearing and a distinctive style. The anime wrapped the teen in a rose-scented embrace and wiped the tears from their eyes. _ “Closeted one,” it said, “who bears up alone in such deep sorrow. Never lose that softness or femininity. I give you this, to remember this day.” _ “We'll meet again, won't we?” _ “This DVD will lead you to me, one day.” _ Perhaps the DVD the anime gave them was just for entertainment. This was all well and good, but so impressed were they by the show that the teen vowed to become a trans girl podcaster faerself one day. But was that really such a good idea? We are finishing out our discussion of Magic Knight Rayearth Season 2! These are some of Niamh's favorite episodes of anime ever! Connor and Autumn think they are just good but it's fine. In between recording the last episode and this one, Niamh read all of the manga, and so we start with a little discussion about how the manga and anime differ. We also talk about the pacing of season 2 and how it might relate to the unwillingness of the Magic Knights to fight after the tragedy of season 1; why the show can't really develop Hikaru x Lantis because what it's more interested in is Hikaru having to confront her need for love from others so that she can ignore her own self-hatred; how Hikaru and Eagle just talking through the problem is actually a sign that both characters are at a place where they can talk openly and in opposition to the Pillar System; an actual discussion of the Asmi ship and why we keep mocking Connor about this; the historical ubiquity of straight readings of old anime and how canonically Hikaru wants to marry her entire polycule (it's in the fucking manga); Niamh's updates to the Rayearth car names document for season 2 and also this ad for the car that fake Presea is named after; Hikaru x Nova and how it ties in with the end of season 1; a brief history of modern concepts of sexuality and Niamh finally reading from Cruising Utopia; Cephiro as a “stage” for the imagining of a new queer polyamorous utopia for Hikaru; and “queerbaiting” old anime like Rayearth as a “stage” for the imagining of queer possibilities. Also, don't forget that we will be recording the Question Bucket soon. The deadline to write into our Question Bucket for this series is Sunday, October 10, 2021. We run a tight ship over here at Ghost, Divers, and Associates LLC. Nobody forgets to open the Google doc. No one accidentally uses their webcam's mic to record half the episode. And definitely there is no bratty antagonizing of one of the hosts for misremembering a scene from the anime by another one of the hosts. We just focus right in on discussing episodes 31-39 of Magic Knight Rayearth. We start our discussion with some of the character design elements and uhhh none of us had read the Rayearth 2 manga at this point so we say some wrong things about which characters appeared in the manga as well. We then dive into a lengthy discussion of the series' bathhouse episode (it's actually pretty interesting!) and how it relates to queerness and the impositions of straightness in Magic Knight Rayearth; the way Lantis problematizes Hikaru's relationships with other characters she loves; queerbaiting; what's going on with Presea and this short motherfucker Clef; the difference in the structure of these episodes compared to earlier in the series; Eagle and Geo and how Eagle clearly isn't over his ex; the weird extended queerphobic joke around the Djinn Raccoon and Rasheen; the Clemi ship and the possibility that Clef is Umi's beard; Umi & Chizeta; Fuu & Fahren; and Hikaru & Nova. Niamh keeps saying fae's Nova and we've all just been waiting for this stupid brat to finally show up. We're discussing episodes 21–30 of Magic Knight Rayearth! We start the conversation with Niamh reading through this document fae made on the origins of the new character's names for season two, then dive into topics such as the uneasiness around the way the girls immediately take on the role of magic knights again; how Rayearth is finally really a mech show; the problem of straightness vs. queerness in season two and Hikaru as a polyamorous character; the pacing of season two; how the series is further developing the themes of the show around patriarchal systems and the inability of people to conceive of themselves outside of the systems in which they live; how the show is setting up themes of relationships, jealousy, guilt, and the impositions of heteronormative culture; and finally some stuff around Hikaru, Nova, and the Pillar System that has been signaled pretty heavily in these first 10 episdes but maybe some viewers would miss. Sorry if that last bit kind of feels like spoilers, episodes but it's all in there and we ended up thinking it's better if we can just acknowledge that these things are happening so we can talk about them more! Connor, Niamh, and Honorary Third Ghost Diver Autumn are back again to discuss the second half of the first season of Magic Knight Rayearth. It's a mech show now? We get into the gradual tonal shift as the series progresses and grows darker; the color coding of characters around red, blue, green, white, and purple/black; Caldina's character as another mode of femininity and as a person swayed by the love of the Magic Knights; Hikaru and blood and its thematic resonance for the show as a whole; the recurring themes around free will, possession, and mind control; the themes of love and the limits of love to protect you from harm; the queer-coding of Inouva; Connor's attempt to stop being so mean to Niamh's beloved dumb bishie, Ferio; the metaphorical usage of the Pillar system of Cephiro to talk about gendered expectations in patriarchal cisheteronormativity; and the tragedy of Princess Emeraude and Lord Zagato and how it ties together all the themes so far and also leaves open the door for far, far more in need of exploration in season 2. Episode Notes What's done is done, it feels so bad. What once was happy now is sad. We'll never record again, our podcast's ending. I wish that I could turn back time, ‘cause now the guilt is all mine for ever suggesting we'd do Evangelion. Okay, so Connor and Niamh like to joke about how we get into a big fight about End of Evangelion because we are never going to fully agree on this film. Specifically, we both have the same basic read on what the film is trying to do, but will always be divided on our final read of the film. But like, we actually are still friends and we're both really looking forward to you all watching Magic Knight Rayearth with us and listening to those episodes. In our discussion, we focus in particular on the beginning and the end of End of Evangelion and the manga and how these two endings to the series figure separation and otherness in different ways and reach different conclusions about the possibility for human connection and touch on topics like the potential figuring of a bioessentialist view in the show and movie of the fundamental divide between men and women as the core of the human condition in the show and movie versus the manga, how the manga employs the image of hands to differently figure the relationship between humans in a way that touches less on heteronormative understandings of human relationships, the Buddhist and daoist interpretations of Eva, the ending of the movie and its parallels with Adam and Eve and the related myth of Líf and Lífþrasir emerging from the world tree after ragnarök to repopulate the earth, how necessary the intense extremes of the movie are for the message, a diversion into discussions around content warnings, our frustrations with the depiction of Misato in End of Eva, differences between the movie and the manga around Gendo and Shinji's ability to meet the expectations of the heroic shōnen protagonist, some of the weird differences between the printed tankōban volumes of the manga in the US and the scanlations on genesis-evangelion.com, how not everyone in a story should necessarily be redeemed (and perhaps some characters should not be redeemed), and our final readings on Rei and her breaking from Gendo's abuse. Also, don't forget that we will be recording the Question Bucket soon. The deadline to write into our Question Bucket for this series is Friday, July 16, 2021. If I were the Chicago White Sox, I would simply have more good relievers to depend on later in games, and also get a new manager that's not using coded racist language about his rookies. This episode, we're talking about CLAMP's Magic Knight Rayearth published by Kodansha, and Shinichi Ishizuka's Blue Giant published by Seven Seas. The songs you heard in this episode are "Yuzurenai Negai" by Naomi Tamura from the Magic Knight Rayearth anime, and Blue Train by John Coltrane. Covers all five volumes of Angelic Layer by CLAMP.What if battle shonen, but for GIRLS? That's the premise of Angelic Layer, where young girls get to fight with super-cool dolls that they control with their minds (OK, Ohjiro can play too). Upon coming to Tokyo, Misaki immediately becomes smitten with this game and learns the ropes very quickly. Shojo & Tell host Ashley, her boytoy Asher, and guest Aisha discuss the gender dynamics of the manga (moms can play with VR tech too!!), the fanfiction-y nature of CLAMP’s works, and who the best deus and angel are (Sai! Covers all 3 volumes of Love in Focus by Yoko NogiriLove in Focus is a very cute and subtly subversive series about a high school love triangle between Mako, Kei, and Mitsuru and their experiences with a photography club. Shojo & Tell host Ashley and her boytoy Asher heap tons of praise on this highly aware manga. Ashley rants about why Kei is too relatable and therefore is aggravating, there's debate about the state of photography in the modern day, and there are revelations about what makes Mako a refreshing shojo manga protagonist. With so much anime produced each season, it's easy for interesting shows to slip through the cracks and for busy fans to only focus on the few big shows that everyone is watching. Each week, we try to remedy this and give one show its chance to shine. Whether its a classic show like Magic Knight Rayearth, a profitable franchise like Symphogear, or just something weird like Boogiepop Phantom, we discuss the first few episodes, the characters, the direction, and decide whether it was worth watching or not.

Covers all of Tokyo Babylon by CLAMP In an alternate Tokyo, Subaru, Seishiro, and Hokuto have otherworldly adventures in this prequel to CLAMP’s unfinished series, X. In a poll about which CLAMP series we should cover next, Tokyo Babylon came out victorious. We’re here to give the people what they want, so on this episode, Shojo & Tell host Ashley and her journey-through-all-of-CLAMP buddy Asher Sofman answer many listener questions, like: Does Seishiro love Subaru? Why is Hokuto so great? What’s the true nature of evil? What were our favorite cases? This is a heavy episode to go with a heavy manga. Watch out for the turn about 30 minutes in. You’ve been warned. REFERENCES Unfortunately it’s a bit difficult to find new copies of Tokyo Babylon. Why does creepy music sound even creepier when channeled through a Game Boy? Maybe it’s that we still think of the Game Boy as a system we played on family trips. Maybe we think about it being more innocent, like when we were kids. Covers all of Magic Knight Rayearth by CLAMP (that's six volumes across MKR I and II) Take a trip to Cefiro, grab a sword, and get in a mech in this wild and beautiful Clamp classic. Asher and Ashley do a character walkthrough that’s mostly gushing about how pretty everyone is (Eagle! Lantis! Umi! Fuu! Hikaru! That's only 1/100th of the number of characters in this six-volume manga!), debate whether Princess/Pillar Emeraude committed suicide and how this relates to controversies over assisted suicide, and of course, fail to escape hitsuzen because everything is hitsuzen. Plus, the Ashes solve global problems that plague many nations, laugh at how many characters/places are named after cars (AUTOZAM! CLEF!), and fawn over how cute all the (problematic) ships are. LINKS Magic Knight Rayearth is available from Dark Horse Comics Other CLAMP works mentioned: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, xxxHolic, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc (all available from Kodansha USA), plus Cardcaptor Sakura, Angelic Layer, Chobits (all available from Dark Horse Comics) Adolescence of Utena (available in iTunes) Assisted suicide in America Fahren means “to drive” in German Lots of characters are named after cars. A prime example is the “Autozam Clef.” Everything is hitsuzen Joe from Cyborg 009 Outro song: “Yuzurenai Negai” by Naomi Tamura (one of the Magic Knight Rayearth openings). Picking a CLAMP title was really, really hard, but we settled Magic Knight Rayearth. It's one of their earlier stories - a fantastic tale of three badass 14 year olds who are whisked away to another world to rescue a princess. Or at least, that's what they're told. Notes: this episode was originally recorded in March and also Andrew had a cold. Please ignore any sniffling and/or temporal abnormalities. David and Evan make their long-awaited return to talk about Magic Knight Rayearth, Fruits Basket, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Darker Than Black, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Summer 2012 anime, the Neo Geo Pocket Color, and … Animorphs? This show was recorded LIVE in Evan’s apartment, which means it has approximately 50% better jokes and 70% fewer awkward pauses than a typical episode of the Ani-Gamers Podcast (based on real science). We tried a slightly different, slightly looser format than usual for this episode. Drop us a line at our email address (linked below) if you like it! Show notes and links after the break. [0:00:15] Intro: “Kill Me” by Lame Drivers [0:00:33] Welcome! Our hosts are Ani-Gamers bloggers Evan Minto and David Estrella! [0:01:27] We partnered with Crunchyroll News to cross-post our content. Cool stuff. [0:03:52] “What’cha Been Doing?” Evan starts with his self-education in shojo manga via Magic Knight Rayearth and Fruits Basket. Also Evan keeps talking about how much he loves Mars. [0:13:55] David hasn’t been watching anime from the Summer 2012 season. What this really means is he’s been “barely” watching anime. Evan is the true master of actually not watching anything. Series include Joshiraku and Hyouka. David also hates on Kids on the Slope. [0:20:14] Evan’s watching Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. [0:28:06] Evan and David are both watching Darker Than Black (David’s already seen it). [0:31:33] Evan is playing Batman: Arkham Asylum, which is pretty OK. [0:33:37] Superhero Comics? Huh? Evan read Avengers: Disassembled in an attempt to introduce himself to Avengers comics. It was… kinda lame and confusing. David read a Hawkeye comic that was extremely purple and also pretty good. Both bought from Aquilonia Comics. [0:36:58] News: The Rose of Versailles anime got licensed! [0:38:42] News: The Wii U has a release date and a bunch of super-weak launch games. Get your Nintendo goggles on! [0:42:01] David bought a Neo Geo Pocket Color from Pastime Legends, which is pretty rad. [0:44:45] News: Genericon dates are out! March 1-3 in Troy, NY!
