Mark talks about honoring Goodyear's pioneering legacy — like the iconic Goodyear Blimp, now celebrating 100 years — while recognizing that past success can breed conservatism if left unchecked. At the core of all this change is a new way of thinking about partnerships. Mark discusses the shift from traditional supplier hierarchies to real, transparent collaborations — where information is shared, problems are solved together, and the success of one depends on the success of all.Beyond strategy, Mark shows what leadership looks like at a human level. From walking factory floors to learn how tires are made firsthand to personally rallying 68,000 associates around a simple, bold vision — to be number one in tires and service — he demonstrates that leadership today isn't about commanding from the top. It's about committing yourself fully to the people you serve.Mark shares glimpses of life outside the boardroom—from hiking with his Labradors in Akron's Metro Parks to binge-watching White Lotus to plotting a summer trip across Europe to see Robbie Williams live. These moments aren't distractions from leadership; they're reminders that authenticity—showing up fully human—is part of what makes great leadership real.Themes discussed in this episode:Why legacy companies must unlearn traditional business practices to survive industry disruptionHow EV tire technology and connected mobility are reshaping Goodyear's product strategyRevitalizing a legacy automotive brand: How Goodyear is transforming after 125 yearsBuilding supplier collaboration models for the future of the automotive supply chainMaking accountability and measurable KPIs the foundation of leadership transformationEmbedding innovation across all departments, not just R&D, to stay competitiveWhy reconnecting leadership with shop floor operations drives meaningful cultural changeHow Goodyear is rallying 68,000 global employees around a bold new vision for growthFeatured guest: Mark StewartWhat he does: Mark is the Chief Executive Officer and President of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, joining the company and its Board of Directors in January 2024. Nashville Scene columnist and City Cast Nashville Metro Council contributor Nicole Williams joins host Grace Fuisz and executive producer Whitney Pastorek for the Friday News Roundup. They're breaking down the big rules change that Council passed this week — you now must present proof of Tennessee residency to speak at public comment — and wondering why, exactly, the military is planning some big loud urban warfare exercises at the former city nursing home in Bordeaux. There's Good News and Bad News for Metro Parks, with the push from local indigenous groups to rename Cumberland Park clearing its first hurdle, but plenty of frustration over the news that street outreach groups who support our unhoused neighbors living on Parks property must now apply for a permit just to hand out some bottles of water. And finally, they debate the merits of “Hug Nashville,” hubNashville's new home for compliments and suggestions. Will Nicole's grinch heart grow three sizes this day? And stick around after the roundup for our Don't Go Gently tip for the weekend, presented by our exclusive launch sponsor, Tecovas. Do you like watching people in kilts throw heavy things? You're in luck: The Middle Tennessee Highland Games are happening at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville! But it's not just caber tossing and stone putting — they've got a bagpipe competition, Scotch tastings, live Highland coos, and tons of great Celtic vendors to round out your day. Saving our Community: One Year Later | Peace in Motion Malcolm Cunningham & Josh Davies, Save our Community School-based team It's been a little over a year since Malcolm Cunningham was tabbed as the leader of Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz's initiative to combat gun violence in Toledo. In that time, there's been a significant change in the number of gun violence-related homicides - since the peak during the pandemic. When he took over the program, Cunningham talked about the importance of youth programming, the technology of Boston University's RISE lab and the forecasting of violence, and the violence interrupters program. So what have we seen in a year's time - what's working and what isn't? Additionally, the Mayor has announced a five-year plan called “Peace in Motion” focusing on: *Increasing protective factors *Building community capacity for violence prevention *Addressing the role of social media in violent conflicts *Providing comprehensive support for victims and survivors of gun violence … as well as economic opportunities and neighborhood development. Passion for food Moussa Salloukh | Chef | Restaurateur | Owner - Souk Navy Bistro, La Scola, and Souk owner Moussa Salloukh is truly a generational talent and hopefully northwest Ohio appreciates what it has in his skill, his passion and his purpose. With Souk, over the last five years or so - he has been able to utilize social media, and his own YouTube Channel. But we haven't even mentioned the food, the appetizers, the creative entrees, the desserts, the wine. Is it test fail for him … what is his palate for the downtown, the living/business/social climate, the Docks, the Metroparks, and the recently mentioned Culinary Mavericks venture.
Send us a Text Message. For this episode, I hit the trails with The Cleveland Hiking Club to discover what drives this all-volunteer-run organization with over 1,200 members. The answer? Cool people who are passionate about encouraging and promoting outdoor recreation and making it accessible to anyone who wants to join in. In my interview with the club's Community Engagement Coordinator, Kara Girvin, and David Schiraldi of the Pathfinder Committee, we speak about finding adventure and friendship on the trails and how hiking and spending time outdoors benefits us mentally and physically. Club members lead hikes year-round every day for all levels of hikers. You will find them in the Metroparks, in cities, in our national park, and even in other countries. I recently joined a club excursion to the New River Gorge National Park with 50 other hikers. There were ten hikes over a three-day weekend, and towards the end of this episode, you will hear from some of the members I met on the trail. Join us, experience a hike or two, and check out this welcoming, vibrant community. Anyone 18 and older can hike with the Cleveland Hiking Club. To qualify as a member, one must complete six hikes a year and pay a small fee. Once a member, all miles are logged, and milestones are celebrated. Some members have hiked over 50,000 miles with the club, demonstrating the enduring power of walking together in nature.Resources:About the Cleveland Hiking ClubJoin the Cleveland Hiking ClubHiking ScheduleFollow us: https://www.facebook.com/ecospeaksclehttps://www.instagram.com/ecospeakscleContact us:hello@ecospeakscle.com

Join us for an insightful conversation with Dr. Amy and Dr. Nicole from Lap of Love, as they share their career journey and passion for veterinary hospice and in-home euthanasia. Delving into topics such as effective communication, collaboration with veterinary professionals, challenges faced, and staying updated on advancements, they offer invaluable insights into providing comprehensive end-of-life care for pets. Learn about the role of pain management, tailoring approaches to individual pets' needs, ensuring a peaceful euthanasia process, and supporting pet owners through the grieving process. Discover the rewarding aspects of their work and the joy it brings amidst the emotional challenges.Dr. Amy Adoryan grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and although I am a city girl, I loved growing up near a Great Lake and enjoy driving out to the country to experience nature and the outdoors. Fortunately, Ohio offers both! I was always in tune with my childhood pets and was the first to notice if they needed medical attention. However, I did not decide to become a veterinarian until I attended college at Cleveland State University. After obtaining my veterinary degree from Ohio State University, I joined a small animal general medicine practice in Cleveland. I am passionate about wellness and preventive care, and high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter (HQHVSN) services. I have realized, however, that one of my favorite parts of veterinary medicine is the ability to give pets a peaceful passing. This is the aspect clients most appreciate, and I find most rewarding. Dr. Nicole Santabarbara received her veterinary degree from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She started her career in general practice but soon found her calling in veterinary hospice and end-of-life care. She was the first veterinarian to establish the Cleveland market for Lap of Love and has been passionately providing these services to her community for the last 3 years. She is currently working towards the Veterinary Hospice and Euthanasia Practitioner certification through Lap of Love and the Peaceful Euthanasia Certification through CAETA (Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy). She finds great fulfillment in helping pets stay comfortable in the last stage of life, as well as helping families give their fur babies the peaceful send-off they deserve.`` When she isn't working, she enjoys biking in the Metroparks with her boyfriend, trying new restaurants, and snuggling with her dog, Reggie, and cat, Olive. Lone Fir Cemetery is one of the oldest continuously operating cemeteries in Portland. It also serves as a painful reminder of the racist and exclusionary treatment of Chinese immigrants who first arrived in Oregon in the mid-1800s, working as miners, merchants and other laborers. From the 1860s to the 1920s, roughly 2800 Chinese immigrants were buried in a section of Lone Fir known as Block 14. Ledgers were used to record the names of many of the people who were buried there so that the remains could be dug up and the bones sent to China for reburial in ancestral villages and towns. By the late 1940s, Multnomah County officials claimed that all remains at Block 14 had been repatriated. But they hadn’t, according to an archaeological survey commissioned by the county in 2005 which found evidence of human remains at the site. Today, Block 14 is a bare field with no permanent reminder of its history or significance to the Chinese American community. But Metro, the regional government agency which owns the cemetery, is attempting to change that by using a voter-approved parks bond to build a memorial to honor the memory of people buried at Block 14. The project will also honor former patients from the state’s first psychiatric hospital, the Oregon Hospital for the Insane, nearly 200 of whom were buried at Lone Fir. Hannah Erickson, a communications specialist at Metro Parks and Nature, and Helen Ying, president of the Lone Fir Cemetery Foundation, join us to discuss the history of Block 14 and the two design proposals for the memorial.

with Hilary Simmet, Marketing Specialist for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks in Michigan When was the last time you visited your local park? If it's been awhile, you may want to reacquaint yourself with all of the wonderful activities available at the park these days. They offer something for everyone to enjoy such as running, hiking, and biking trails and several even have lakes where you can spend the day at the beach and rent a canoe or kayak. There's no better time than summer to plan an adventure at your local park. Several parks even offer overnight camping so you could make it a summer vacation destination. Pack a picnic, toss a football and relax in the sun. Depending upon what your park offers, there might even be an opportunity to spend the day golfing, fishing, or playing on a waterslide with the kids. The Zoo, TMA, Metroparks, please include our library system in that. It's not a roving farmer's market, but it's close to it! Thank you Ottawa Hills and fantastic to meet you Elise. The Walleye weren't victims of malice, just shitty planning and total myopia. The displaced Bravo! employees are likely to wind up in a much better place. It will be the most discussed show of the summer, and it may be disgusting. And a question that hasn't never come out of my head until last with with Jake's Dad Larry and now you.
Please Like and Subscribe to help support the show! Established in 1835, Wolfinger Cemetery is one of the oldest in the county. And by all accounts, it also seems to be one of the most haunted. Do a Google search for Wolfinger and you won't find much. Well, you will, but it's pretty much all the same information, word for word in most cases. The most haunted metro park in Ohio, and it has a cemetery in it. Ghost kids playing with visitors and do you know what a tree tombstone means? All in this week's episode. The legend of Wolfinger generally goes something like this, Inside Wolfinger Cemetery, the graves of two parents and their three children line the wooded edge. They all died within days of each other. Ghostly children have been seen playing around the graves, particularly one girl who is about ten or twelve years old. And, that's pretty much all there is to it. This location seems interesting enough to put it on my "Places To Visit This Summer," but a little too vague to discuss here in any great detail.
Filing week is coming up in Washington State, which is when candidates file for office. This year, we are electing candidates to parks, schools, ports, city councils, and other "nonpartisan" seats. Rosie Ayala ran for office (and won!) in 2021 to become a commissioner on the Metro Parks board of Tacoma. She joined the podcast to talk about that experience and give notes to anyone considering running for office this year (or another). Links Channel 253 membership
Cleveland MetroParks Murders ////// 660Part 1of 1 www.TrueCrimeGarage.comCarnell Sledge and Katherine Brown were longtime friends. On June 4, 2019 the two met at the Rocky River Reservation, one of Cleveland's MetroParks. It was a beautiful day and many were out and about. The two arrived separately but at about the same time which was right around 5pm. They found a bench near the river to sit down and have some conversation. Just about twenty minutes later kayaker's found the two dead. The killer or killers are still at large. If you have any information please contact the FBI's Cleveland Field Office at 216-622-6842. Tips can also be submitted at tips.fbi.govA very big thank you to one of my very favorite podcasters - Aaron from the Generation Why podcast for joining me in the Garage this week to discuss this still unsolved case. The Generation Why podcast has been pumping out great podcast episodes since 2012. You can listen to them wherever you get your podcasts. On this episode of Citizen Tacoma, Commissioner Rosie Ayala joins the podcast to talk about what's happening with Metro Parks: playfields, natural resources, climate change, and more! Give it a listen. Links Commissioner Rosie Ayala Channel 253 membership
Sarah and Lorenzo nerd out about everything and anything! They talk about hiking, whitewater rafting, paint by numbers, jumping off cliffs, peer pressure, growing up in NW Ohio, traveling, mission trips, making kids do things, military kids, Green Bay Packers, working at the Metroparks, drinking all the milk, and so much more!
Warning. This is a long episode. Some quick local news things. I need to do a better job of that. We talk about issues of note, but I can keep you informed too! Metroparks was Riverwalk feedback, so my Soccer on Summit dream! One of the popular dating apps has a super crappy bug in it. The bike-everywhere, no-cars-ever people need to widen their gaze, as they want car addicts to do. Mary Bilyeu, now two months into her gig at the Jewish Federation, is on as her inter-faith Seder is this weekend. And baseball is next week. Baseball means ballpark food! She's also over your eggflation bemoaning. I pitch her my JFed-events-can-be-bigger idea.
In this episode, Neil and Will sit down with naturalist and historical interpreter with the Cleveland Metroparks - Foster Brown. Foster and the Metroparks are having a summer camp in Northeast, OH titled - Appalachian Lifestyles Camp - for "hands on learning about the life and art of the Appalachian culture." As a camp dedicated to the Appalachian culture, taking place outside of Appalachia, Foster explains the purpose of the camp and how he developed a sincere appreciation for the cultural heritage of the region. Take a listen as he details what the campers will be doing to better understand some of the skills developed throughout Appalachia and how he will be sure to dispel some of the misconceptions people have about the region. As we often go outside the region to better understand other cultures as well as bringing our own culture to other areas, we understand the importance of finding commonalities among a world of misunderstood differences. Foster and the Metroparks are trying to also bridge that cultural divide to bring outside cultures to the campers of Northeast OH - and seemingly doing a fantastic job of it. You might even hear Will's age dilemma with the American Girl Doll and the guys thoughts on "Skunk Mating Season" (or at least Siri's thoughts). Matt Killam from the Metroparks joins us to talk all things happening across the park system, and what's on the cusp of arrival at its new crown jewel, Glass City Metropark, but first... Roofs (or rooves!?) or medical debt. And we're glad Holy Toledough made an adjustment away from their poorly named donut.
